Lead actor is terrible and his sidekick is annoying though. When the most sympathetic characters in the film are Doomed Buddy Who Contacted Hunter for Help and Hunter's Bimbo Girlfriend, your movie franchise isn't going anywhere.
I myself love Twins of Evil so much that I've got not only the Blu-ray but also the soundtrack, a t-shirt, and a full-sized comforter from RedBubble. I've also got t-shirts for Lust for a Vampire and The Vampire Lovers. Great channel and great list!
Completely agree about curse of Frankenstein. It’s one of my comfort films I watch if I’m ever off work sick. Old British actors are so good and make any dialogue sound interesting
I can't remember most of the Hammer movies but what I DO remember was staying up late with my mum who loved them every Saturday night for Creature Feature. This was in the 1970s. They usually had a presenter talk about actors etc before the movie.
Hello Daniel. I really like that T-shirt with Mr. Vincent Price and Dr. Phibes on it. In the early 1970s, I met Mr. Price. He was a truly great gentleman. Cheers -- W
This is a wonderful channel. Not just the content but your enthusiasm is very infectious. It’s very gratifying to see a young guy loving these films which I loved when I was young, (and still do) watching them late night in the UK on a Saturday on the BBC when my parents had gone to bed on an 18 inch colour tv set in 1977 with all the lights off. These movies have definitely proved to be enduring classics. Good to see Brides of Dracula on your list, which was the very first Hammer horror I saw; terrified me. If you haven’t already, give The Devil Rides Out and Quatermass and the Pit a go. Anyway, thanks for reading and thanks for your superb content.
Peter Cushing will always be *my* Van Helsing & Dr. Frankenstein 👍 There are so many good ones but Oliver Reed in Curse of the Werewolf is a stand out in my memory from childhood. Bob Wilkins/Creature Features showed Hammer films as well as older classic B&W horror films every weekend in the late 60s/early 70s. That & Outer Limits, Twilight Zone & Night Gallery was my gateway into the horror genre.
@@davepx1 Thank you, Dave P. I'm thinking that Nigel Kneale might have read, "Who Goes There?" by John W. Campbell, seeing that "Quatermass and the Pit" had leanings towards cosmic horror. That story was also decades before Erich Von Danikin's "Chariots of the Gods."
@@walterfechter8080 There's also an early 1950s comic horror tale that he may have encountered in which an unearthed ancient human skeleton affects the locals. I agree with your number one pick, Curse of Frankenstein! This is the first horror movie I ever saw, at the drive in, when it was first released. I was so scared I slept with my mama that night!
As a 65 year old "Monster Kid", I have to say that your picks are 100%. The only change would be "Twins of Evil" for a Karnstein movie with Ingrid Pitt. Dracula HRFTG was the first Hammer Dracula film that I saw first run and also I thought that I was alone in my fondness for the Hammer Phantom. And it wouldn't be a great list without several appearances of Michael Ripper. Always a bonus to a Hammer tale. All around excellent work!
Excellent list and very entertaining episode! So glad to see THE GORGON make your top 5; it’s such an underrated Hammer horror film. My Top 5 would be: 1) THE HORROR OF DRACULA, 2) THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, 3) THE GORGON, 4) THE MUMMY and 5) THE DEVIL RIDES OUT.

No, it's a really good movie. Not what I expected the first time I saw it, but Hammer doesn't always go for the throat. Very enjoyable, excellent production.
The Gorgon is one of my favorite Hammer movies. Although the Gorgon’s snakes look fake, her face is really creepy! Doesn’t ruin the movie for me at all.
Love that you included The Gorgon, the only Greek Myth they did. My absolute favourite Hammer Horror is The Devil Rides Out, the scene of them in the chalk circle is the greatest. More favourites are Quatermass and the Pit and X the Unknown
I GREW UP ON ALL OF THE HAMMER FILMS . NOTHING CAN COME CLOSE TO THEIR STYLE ,SETS ,MUSIC AND GREAT ACTORS AND ACTRESSES! A CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY AROUND . AT 61 I'M GLAD THE YOUNGER GENERATION FEELS THE SAME .

Always great to hear some Hammer appreciation - It is tough but my list probably (order subject to change ^^) 1.Quatermass and the Pit, 2. Dracula (1958), 3. Kiss of the Vampire, 4. Revenge of Frankenstein, 5. Hound of the Baskervilles, 6 The Devil Rides Out, 7. Curse of Frankenstein, 8. Brides of Dracula, 9. Plague of the zombies, 10. Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde .....honorable mentions Quatermass 2, Dracula Prince of Darkness, Cash on Demand, Captain Kronos, Vampire Circus.....actially lots of them I do love Hammer films.
Great order. Curse of Frankenstein was eerily filmed. Some epic shots. Dracula has risen from the grave has haunted me since I first saw it. Lee was amazing.
I’m so glad you mentioned Hammer’s version of Phantom, it’s a gem. The music is really good. And it’s an underrated film. It’s also an unusual homage to Joan of Arc and the spirit of the artist in society.
Hello Daniel. This is my list of my favourite Hammer films: 1958: Horror of Dracula (Fisher) 1959: The Hound of the Baskervilles (Fisher) 1960: The Brides of Dracula (Fisher) 1964: The Gorgon (Fisher) 1966: The Reptile (Gilling) 1967: Quatermass and the Pit 1967: Frankenstein created Woman (Fisher) 1971: Hands of the Ripper (Sasdy)
Oh I've seen it. On Thriller Double Feature here in Windsor, Ontario back in the 1980's. Seems to me that the film was an anthology, no?@@franciswright6672
I love most of the Hammer series of films, but my personal favorite has to be Vampire Lovers. Yes, it's exploitative and there's nudity, but I'll be damned if Ingrid Pitt doesn't play a vampire who manages to be sympathetic and horrifying in equal measures. Truly a great movie. I have a soft spot for the 70's Hammer films too. But they are all eminently watchable. Great list!
Sup. I'm about to dive into Hammer films for the first time, thanks for blending it with other classics that I enjoy and I'm excited for the precesser plots that borrow from this list Great channel 💯
Just yesterday, for the first time ever, I watched 'kiss of the vampire.' Probably the best Hammer Horror I didn't know about. Great storyline, locations. Costumes and props. It's done like a mystery about what is going on, I was definitely hooked from start to finish.
In mere moments I just thought 'you know what you're on about / you know your stuff'. To say about Hammers Phantom of the Opera but reference both Chaney and Rains, that's a guy that knows what they are on about. Immediate trust.
I grew up on the Hammer Films had to do some serious begging to my parents to let me stay up and watch the Horror double bill. Thank God they were on Friday or Saturday night's. Truly good memories, that being said I'll soon be digging out those film's to enjoy again. October scary movie month.
I suppose it's not a "Hammer Horror" movie, but my favorite Hammer film is The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959). Cushing is my all-time favorite Sherlock Holmes. But I'm glad you mentioned The Gorgon. I adore that movie and I really don't know why. But I love the...less than stellar effects in the hammer movies. The bats on wires and the awful Gorgon and the unrealistic blood. It's all fantastic.
Here's my list. Totally different from yours, lol: 10) The Reptile 9) Twins of Evil 8) Quartermass 2 7) Curse of Frankenstein 6) Plague of the Zombies 5) One Million Years BC 4) Quatermass and the Pit 3) The Abominable Snowman 2) Hound of the Baskervilles 1) The Devil Rides Out
Great choices! It's nice to see The Gorgon get some love; never ceases to amaze me how underrated it is. Such a unique idea, loaded with atmosphere and imagination. My top ten would have to be: 1) Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed 2) Quatermass and the Pit 3) The Nanny 4) Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde 5) The Gorgon 6) The Plague of the Zombies 7) Dracula: Prince of Darkness 8) Blood from the Mummy's Tomb 9) Vampire Circus 10) The Abominable Snowman
I'm a huge Dracula fan, love all his movies & shows!!! My favorite Dracula actors are: Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman, Bela Lugosi, Gerard Butler, Frank Langella, Jack Palance, Luke Evans, Paul Naschy and Frank Langella!
I grew up on Hammer Horror movies! Saturday screenings in my home town cinema in the Sixties. One of the things that impressed me about them was the richness of colour: the saturated greens, browns and of course reds. This is something that even the BluRay remasters haven't quite managed to get right. So many choices but The Devil Rides Out, Rasputin, the Mad Monk, and The Witches are three favourites. Quatermass and the Pit is another, despite the terrible FX segment around its midway point. And I still think Ollie Reed's Werewolf is one of the best ever werewolf movies.
Great list! I’ve never seen a Hammer film I didn’t enjoy. What’s not to love? Boobs, blood, gothic castles, great acting, great scripts, they are so fun!!
Hammer Films are my favorites in cinema. From the low budget goodness,to their stars, and special effects when they worked,to the array of Dracula sequels, the company added so much to the pleasure of movies. And let's not forget that wonderful music!
Been a Hammer Horror fan since the mid-70s when I was just a wee lad! This is a great list! It’s such a hard thing to choose a top ten but you killed it! Pun fully intended 😊
I'm half way through watching every Hammer movie (there are about 180), there are some hidden gems that are Thriller's rather than horrors. Here's my top ten so far, starting with the best: 1. Curse of Frankenstein 2. Horror of Dracula 3. Yesterday's Enemy 4. Taste of Fear 5. Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde 6. Hell is a City 7. Frankenstein Created Woman 8. Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires 9. The Revenge of Frankenstein 10. The Damned Cpt Kronos would be joint 10th.
Excellent list, I think I'd only swap numbers 1 & 2 purely because the ending of Dracula (1958) is my favourite of any movie. I also love 'Taste the Blood of Dracula' in the series because of the story, the music & Ralph Bates 🎥
@cobwebschannel my top ten , this week 😃 1 Dracula 2 The Devil Rides Out 3 Curse Of Frankenstein 4 Twins Of Evil 5 The Mummy 6 Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell 7 Hands Of The Ripper 8 Quatermass And The Pit 9 Dr Jekyll And Sister Hyde 10 The Hound Of The Baskervilles
I remember my mom taking me to see A Boy Named Charlie Brown. In the lobby was a poster for Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed. Forget Charlie Brown. I wanted to see Frankenstein!
I've been a Hammer fan since I could remember. I remember my father taking me at age six to see Curse of the Werewolf. After that I was hooked for life. It's hard to state ten best. Even the so-so ones r interesting. Example would be Resputin, the Mad Monk. Terrible script but Lee and Barbara S. r so good that it carries the film Long live Hammer.
Big fan too, I got an all region DVD player just so I could watch the Hammer collection 21 disc collector's box set, (only on region 2) so I could finally see all the ones they never seemed to play on tv.
Great Video.. Entertaining and well documented. Hammer Films actually are very well crafted and.. Usually very Campy and Enjoyable. R. Polanki ( The Great R. Polanski) made some years ago his own homage to Hammer Studios "The Fearless Vampires Killers". Don't miss this crazy and wonderful film if you have not seen it yet!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thank you very much, and I’ve actually been meaning to see Fearless Vampire Killers for years! I need to finally get around to it. Thanks for the reminder!
@@cobwebschannel ohyeah, watch it :-) i've seen it countless times on TV, total classic. it's a bit like Hammer horror on acid. lol. gave, and still gives me, tons of chills.
Great list and presentation - very entertaining plus I learned a couple of things. It's clear you are a true fan not just going for the obvious titles. The Gorgon in particular doesn't always get the respect it deserves - it would also be near the top of my list.
Great choices! It makes me want to rewatch them. Yes, I always thought Dracula has Risen from the Grave was brilliant- I didn’t realise it was underrated. Another lesser known Hammer film that I loved was Kiss of the Vampire - the music by James Bernard was wonderful. Also, Frankenstein Created Woman. There are just so many when you start thinking about it!
I loved The Gorgon. For meg, the practical effect monster didn't interfere at all with my enjoyment of the film. Having watched many horror films from and growing up in the 60s/70s, I was pretty used to seeing that kind of thing and thought nothing of it. Great video. I'm learning a lot.
DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, BRIDES OF DRACULA and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA are in my Top 3 based mainly on their stories first along with the acting, music and visuals.
My introduction to Hammer horror was through weirdly Doctor Who. The show in the 70s had a very gothic horror vibe which was inspired by these films and in the last few years I’ve nose dived into them. They’re my favourite type of film. My favourites have to be The Mummy 1959, The Mummy’s Shroud, The Gorgon and Curse of Frankenstein. For me horror films are at their best when they’re oozing with atmosphere and tension and creep factor. Not necessarily how likely it is to give you a heart attack like most horror is now.
Great list! "Curse of Frankenstein" is my favorite Hammer horror too. Just watched it to celebrate 100 days to Halloween! I enjoy all of the Cushing Frankenstein movies. "Frankenstein and the Monster From Hell" is a lot of fun too -- it takes place in an insane asylum, there's a little girl who feeds her doll pieces of human flesh, and the monster is played by Darth Vader's body actor, David Prowse!
Great list. I really enjoyed all those films. I grew up taping Universal horror films on TV in the 80s and 90s. The only Hammer film I had on tape was Curse of the Mummy's Tomb. Glad you mentioned their amazing version of Phantom of the Opera.
Since we're going with a definition of Horror that includes the Phantom (with no supernatural angle and not even the semi-science-fictiony engineering from the book), my list from lowest to highest would run: Taste the Blood of Dracula, Quatermass and the Pit, Revenge of Frankenstein, Cash on Demand, Curse of Frankenstein, Night Creatures, Hound of the Baskervilles, The Mummy, Brides of Dracula and Horror of Dracula. You did a pretty good list and you articulate your love for these movies well. :)
Fantastic top 10 and i liked the way you tried to stay away from the franchise's and just pick one from each. I do have a soft spot for Scars of Dracula mainly because i like how violent Dracula is in that movie. The Vampire lovers is also a favorite as it was the first ever movie with nudity that i watched as a young boy. Quatermass and the pitt would be in my top 10, loved the video buddy. Mark.
Yes. I love classic Hammer movies. I used to watch them as a kid. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, my dream team.
Ditto
Loved them since i was 6 and first watched Dracula: Prince of Darkness in 1986.
And they both went on to
STAR WARS.
George Lucas was a fan ,too.
My favourite is The Devil Rides Out. Great to see Christopher Lee in the unusual role as the good guy and he plays it brilliantly
Great choice.
I love this film so much, brought it yesterday on DVD xx
I love eating junk food and watching this movie come Halloween.
That's an AWESOME movie! I still find it kind of scary actually.
The Devil Rides Out is a Bad Ass witchcraft/Satanism movie! Think I'll watch it right now!
Nothing beats Cushing and Lee, the two giants of gothic horror.
My favorite Hammer film is "Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter". I thought the combining of vampire and swashbuckling was very unique .
If only we could have gotten further Kronos films.
I would have loved a TV series. It could be rebooted on Netflix.
Lead actor is terrible and his sidekick is annoying though. When the most sympathetic characters in the film are Doomed Buddy Who Contacted Hunter for Help and Hunter's Bimbo Girlfriend, your movie franchise isn't going anywhere.

Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde .....honorable mentions Quatermass 2, Dracula Prince of Darkness, Cash on Demand, Captain Kronos, Vampire Circus.....actially lots of them I do love Hammer films.
Vampire Circus, YES! I can’t believe it didn’t make the list, it’s probably my favorite Hammer film of all time.
This is my list of my favourite Hammer films:
1958: Horror of Dracula (Fisher)
1959: The Hound of the Baskervilles (Fisher)
1960: The Brides of Dracula (Fisher)
1964: The Gorgon (Fisher)
1966: The Reptile (Gilling)
1967: Quatermass and the Pit
1967: Frankenstein created Woman (Fisher)
1971: Hands of the Ripper (Sasdy)
AMAZING LIST! Although admittedly, I've neither seen nor ever heard of the film, "Hands of the Ripper". Clearly I need to look it up!
Quatermass and the Pit was directed by Roy Ward Baker
No one knows the house that dripped blood ? That is a great movie. I like it cuz it’s scary and then it has its comic relief.
Love that film.@@robertogonzalezsierra219
Oh I've seen it. On Thriller Double Feature here in Windsor, Ontario back in the 1980's. Seems to me that the film was an anthology, no?@@franciswright6672
I love most of the Hammer series of films, but my personal favorite has to be Vampire Lovers. Yes, it's exploitative and there's nudity, but I'll be damned if Ingrid Pitt doesn't play a vampire who manages to be sympathetic and horrifying in equal measures. Truly a great movie. I have a soft spot for the 70's Hammer films too. But they are all eminently watchable. Great list!
Vampire Lovers is so good!
Terece Fisher a classic master. Love his blocking, his cutting, the way he treats space and actors in it.
Something you don't hear every day, "I love...a slasher...I find it...very comforting." LoL
Sup. I'm about to dive into Hammer films for the first time, thanks for blending it with other classics that I enjoy and I'm excited for the precesser plots that borrow from this list
Great channel 💯
Just yesterday, for the first time ever, I watched 'kiss of the vampire.' Probably the best Hammer Horror I didn't know about. Great storyline, locations. Costumes and props. It's done like a mystery about what is going on, I was definitely hooked from start to finish.
It’s a fun one!
In mere moments I just thought 'you know what you're on about / you know your stuff'. To say about Hammers Phantom of the Opera but reference both Chaney and Rains, that's a guy that knows what they are on about. Immediate trust.
Loved your comment about The Gorgon’s physical effects versus CGI. I love physical effects too and “real”stunts!
Totally different from yours, lol:
10) The Reptile
9) Twins of Evil
8) Quartermass 2
7) Curse of Frankenstein
6) Plague of the Zombies
5) One Million Years BC
4) Quatermass and the Pit
3) The Abominable Snowman
2) Hound of the Baskervilles
1) The Devil Rides Out
Hammer films are gorgeous! Chris Lee is the best vampire! I couldn't even picķ a favorite film. I like your list though.
Great choices! It's nice to see The Gorgon get some love; never ceases to amaze me how underrated it is. Such a unique idea, loaded with atmosphere and imagination. My top ten would have to be:
1) Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
2) Quatermass and the Pit
3) The Nanny
4) Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde
5) The Gorgon
6) The Plague of the Zombies
7) Dracula: Prince of Darkness
8) Blood from the Mummy's Tomb
9) Vampire Circus
10) The Abominable Snowman
Great list, and I still need to see The Nanny!
Good list bro
I would have chosen:
"The Man Who Could Cheat Death" (1959)
"Scream of Fear" (1961)
"The Mummy" (1959)
All top films!
Great list!! Dracula is my favorite character of all time.
Great list! Horror of Dracula is my favorite but you make a good case for Curse of Frankenstein. Thanks for your video!
I also love the Hammer Phantom of the Opera. Hebert Lom is brilliant.
I would have picked Vampire Circus over Twins of Evil, but otherwise I agree with your list.
Love that one too!
The first 10 minutes of Vampire Circus captivated me. I love that movie.
The Gorgon is my favorite Hammer film. The sound track is perfect, Barbara Shelley... Awesome .( paper snakes..Amnesty )
It’s awesome!
It's actually one of the more creepy Hammers, the dark woods and that dark isolated castle with the Medusa in there. So atmpospheric.
Exactly. And the setting which doesn't really look like anywhere but adds to its ethereal quality. It's quite unique.
That's crazy I watched The Gorgon last night on regular t.v...😮😮😮
Nice!
The Hammer movies are stunning when seen on widescreen. The sets are beautiful and so are the costumes.
Hey, thank you!!
Me too, my mum used to let me stay up late on Saturday nights to watch them with her.
The women with snakes for hair are called gorgons. In classical Greek Myth there were three of them names Stheno, Euryale and Medusa.
Horror of Dracula will always be my #1 hammer film Frankenstein. is #2
I'm half way through watching every Hammer movie (there are about 180), there are some hidden gems that are Thriller's rather than horrors. Here's my top ten so far, starting with the best:
1. Curse of Frankenstein
2. Horror of Dracula
3. Yesterday's Enemy
4. Taste of Fear
5. Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde
6. Hell is a City
7. Frankenstein Created Woman
8. Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires
9. The Revenge of Frankenstein
10. The Damned
Cpt Kronos would be joint 10th.
Thanks for introducing me to these Hammer movies!
Excellent list, I think I'd only swap numbers 1 & 2 purely because the ending of Dracula (1958) is my favourite of any movie. I also love 'Taste the Blood of Dracula' in the series because of the story, the music & Ralph Bates 🎥
The Mummy was my favorite. Especially loved the flashback
The actresses in the Twins of Evil I believe were the first twins to pose asPlayboy's playmates.
They remind me of Linda Blair.
They were from Malta and hardly spoke English, so their voices had to be dubbed. Beautiful girls, great movie.
I love your enthusiasm . I've been a Hammer fan since my youth and started the hugely popular The Hammer Lovers Facebook group 11 years ago.
P.s. that's a fine list from someone who obviously appreciates class
Hey, thank you!
@cobwebschannel my top ten , this week 😃
1 Dracula
2 The Devil Rides Out
3 Curse Of Frankenstein
4 Twins Of Evil
5 The Mummy
6 Frankenstein And The Monster From Hell
7 Hands Of The Ripper
8 Quatermass And The Pit
9 Dr Jekyll And Sister Hyde
10 The Hound Of The Baskervilles
I like them too. They are the best. Today's horror movies I don't think are as good.
Some of mine are .Reptile , The devil rides out , Dracula , frankinstine ,
I remember my mom taking me to see A Boy Named Charlie Brown.
I love Barbara Shelley in Rasputin so much!
Big fan too, I got an all region DVD player just so I could watch the Hammer collection 21 disc collector's box set, (only on region 2) so I could finally see all the ones they never seemed to play on tv.
The Hammer Phantom of the Opera needs to be radically reassessed. It's sooo good. Thanks for the recommendation, as always!
@@cobwebschannel You welcome. Indeed, Warner Classic has a brand new print of this film. Enjoy it.. You won't regret it
@@cobwebschannela must watch
I pretty much agree with you...one I liked, in my top 10 was Kiss of the Vampire 1961, I think. It was so atmospheric & the music was sensational!!!
Kiss of the Vampire is a fun one!
Just discovered your channel, great video!!
Much appreciated!!
DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE, BRIDES OF DRACULA and PHANTOM OF THE OPERA are in my Top 3 based mainly on their stories first along with the acting, music and visuals.
Rock solid top 3!
Great video😎
Loved these films!
Thou my favourite Hammer is Quatermass And The Pit
and a non Hammer classic from that time
Blood On Satans Claw😈
This is such a damn good list. I cannot disagree with any of your choices
Great list and eerily close to my own. Very much enjoyed it.
Very cool! Thanks very much!
I cut my horror teeth as a pre-teen on Hammer. They were regularly shown on British TV in the 70/80's. Superb !
Great list. I really enjoyed all those films. I grew up taping Universal horror films on TV in the 80s and 90s. The only Hammer film I had on tape was Curse of the Mummy's Tomb.
Glad you mentioned their amazing version of Phantom of the Opera.
I really enjoyed your reviews, I agree with your choices. Great job!
Thank you!
This is a good list. My top 5 are :- The Gorgon, The Devil Rides out, Plague of the Zombies, Dracula, Curse of Frankenstein. xx
Love that top 5
Mark.
Thanks very much! Scars of Dracula is nuts. I can’t say I love it, but there is trashy fun to be had. haha And Lee gets to talk more!
The Gorgeous Ingrid Pitt, Madeline Smith and Kate O'Mara.
