@@TheHaddonfieldRegistry Exactly. We're more aware of it today, so we can only imagine the horrible stuff that went on back then, in the 20s, 30s, and so on.
The Hammer Frankenstein series had some distinct differences from the Universal series. To begin with, the Universal series kept bringing the Monster back, to be tinkered with by a new mad scientist (only exception: Bride of F), while the Hammer series essentially brought back the doctor (Peter Cushing) to build a new Monster which is destroyed at the end of the movie. In most of the Universal entries the mad doctor only wanted to prove his theories, thereby (incidentally) gaining fame and fortune, in the Hammer series the doctor split his motivations between that and revenge on people who had purportedly persecuted him previous to that movie. Altho the novel (actually BOTH novels) of the Frankenstein story were long in public domain, the bolt-in-the-neck makeup of the Universal franchise was copyrighted so Hammer had to work up boltless makeup for its Monsters.
Bride of Frankenstein had Dr Pretorius, really I’d say the only Universal Frankenstein film that didn’t have the Monster tampered with by another Mad Scientist was Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein, instead he was tampered by Dracula who had assistance from a mad scientist
Pretty dashing even as an older man, IMO, until about a year and half to two years after his wife's death. It takes about that long for his failure to take care of himself to catch up with him.
I find these really interesting because I never knew about the Hammer films until I saw the Monster Madness videos. I just knew the Universal ones. I've been meaning to track down some Hammer films and watch them for years and never have. I should get on that.

I only discovered them through James as well, and after seeking them out, i m glad I did. They have a certain charm, and attention to detail. The sets, costumes, etc. And the actors like Cushing and Lee always lend credibility to the sometimes questionable scripts and cheesy plot elements. They always give 100%
My favorite is The Revenge of Frankenstein, it has a great fairy tale-like feel and an old-school 'otherworldly' atmosphere that classic Hammer sometimes really hit so well and other times (mostly later) missed completely.
"How should we end our renowned film franchise?" "Hmmmm, let's have the monster shot in the balls and ripped apart by a bunch of mentally ill people" That's both ultra LAME and ultra AWESOME. Both at the SAME TIME!
I'd love to see a Monster Madness that revolves around non-horror monster stuff. I mean, he did review both Teen Wolf movies at one point, which are definitely comedies.
The ending made sense to me. He hid the monster in the evidence destroying tank and when the little girl pulls the rope, it dumps the acid on the unconscious monster and destroys any evidence that he existed. Frankenstein got away with it all, but his work was destroyed.
"The secret to keeping brains in suspended animation is written somewhere downstairs, probably in his journal....." "I could only imagine what's written down in there, it probably says put it in a freezer". Buahaha! LoL. Too funny.
This is a cool video but I disagree with James. I don't see Doctor Frankenstein as an anti-hero in any way, shape or form. He's a straight up villain. A psychopath willing to do and destroy anything and anyone in his way to achieve his twisted goals. He's a great character, fascinating and memorable, but still a villain.
I love the beginning of FMBD. I think the mask is excellent and would have easily worked for a creature. It also lays firm. That by this time, Frankenstein has -become- THE monster, even to himself.
I know james always been a fan of movies I wonder if he had seen any original adaptions of sherlock holmes (and this includes adaptions staring peter cushing ,basil rathbone, and the legendary jeremy brett)
