Thank you so much for including "THE HAUNTING OF JULIA", on behalf of all my fellow Cast, and the Crew, that worked on this film back in 1976, we very much appreciate the support, and the love from all the fans out there for our Film. Also a big thank you to those that have taken the time to watched my video, where I talk about working on the film as a Child Actor, and about the more bloody scenes we shot in the playground, that were not used in the final cut of the film. (a little bit of exclusive behind the scenes film trivia I made for the fans) , Also this was a great list of films to be included in, and as a horror fan myself I love it.
The Haunting Of Julia is such a creepy thought provoking movie and one I only discovered last year when the 4K release came out!! Congrats to yourself, Mia and all the cast and crew for creating such a gem of a movie! I'm now going to check out your channel! Regards from the UK
@@MC-po3pg Thank you for Watching "FULL CIRCLE" (The Original Title we filmed it under here in the UK), all through most know it as THE HAUNTING OF JULIA (USA Title release),or from it's original Media Home Entertainment big box VHS Video Tape release in 1982, It is great to hear that our film stuck with you after all these years, it is one of my personal favorites from 50 years working in the TV & Film industry, on a lot of production in that time, so I am always thrilled to hear from someone that has watched it and enjoyed it, Thank you for your comment best wishes from one of the Cast.❤
Such a great movie! I also saw it years ago on Chiller and just loved it! It’s one of those movies that sticks with you. (Picnic at Hanging Rock is also in that category for me.) I personally made a resolution to not buy any new or new to me physical media for the rest of this calendar year, but, well, rules are made to be broken, yes? Yes!
Its funny how I used to look forward to my favorite shows every day/week, but now its my favorite podcast/content creators that get me out of bed in the morning. Thank you.
I just found this channel today, he is great! I love these lesser known recommendations. I watch a lot of horror movies but I’ve only seen After Midnight on this entire list.
I probably watch ‘I,Madman’ three times a year. I include it with my annual Christmas Horror line-up. Yes, ‘I, Madman’ takes place at Christmas. ‘Kiss of the Vampire’ is great stuff as well.
I'm a fan of (1972) Horror Express with Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, and Telly Salavas. A cool, almost throwback to earlier Hammer films. Being stuck on a train with nowhere to go. It's a fun one.
I saw Horror Express as a kid in the 80s, and after that, when I would scan TV Guide guide magazine every week highlighting the horror movies I wanted to watch I always mistakingly highlighted Soul Train thinking it was Horror Express.
Dude, you may have solved a long, lingering mystery for me. Sole Survivor sounds like this movie I’ve been trying to track down for decades. Looking forward to watching it and seeing if the mystery’s been solved.
A few underseen and underrated (in my opinion) that come to mind: - The Mole People 1956 - The Ghost of Yotsuya 1959 - Black Cat Mansion 1958 - A Quiet Place in the Country 1968 - The Bride from Hades 1968 - The Diabolical Dr. Z 1966 - The Enchanting Shadow 1960 - The Shiver of the Vampires 1971 - Hotel Fear 1978 - The House with Laughing Windows 1976 - The Night Child 1975 - A Virgin Among the Living Dead 1973 (Franco Cut) - The Other Side of the Mirror 1973 (Spanish cut) - Black Magic Rites 1973 - Don’t Deliver Us from Evil 1971 - Sweet Home 1989 - Anguish 1987 - The Seventh Curse 1986 - Blind Date 1984 - Zeder 1983 - Cute Devil 1982 - Bloody Parrot 1981 - Scan Doll 1996 - Evil Dead Trap 2: Hideki 1992
Sole Survivor is a great hidden gem. It is insane to think the director made that right before he made the wild and super 80s flavored Night of the Comet!
Paulette Goddard was 2nd in line to be Scarlett O'Hara in "Gone With the Wind". She and Chaplin remained fast friends for the rest of their lives after divorcing amicably. "Modern Times" is a masterpiece of the 20th century.
I like The Haunting of Julia I saw that years ago on cable tv. I liked to whole mysterious spooky vibe of the movie Mia Farrow was great as usual I actually saw it again recently I found the full movie on RUclips. I'm glad I found your RUclips channel I love horror movies and I love getting recommendations for them too.
YES! Sole Survivor is a painfully seldom seen horror film. I must for anyone that love low budget 80s horror!!! Rarely totally agree with lists but this one is spot on.
Dude! The Cat and The Canary I actually saw many years ago because Scooby-Doo did this story as an episode called "A Night of Fright is No Delight" and when I started watching this, I kept wanting to see a Phantom like in the cartoon 😂... Such a fan of your vids my friend!
Love seeing Homicidal get its flowers! Also, the other versions of The Cat and the Canary are also worth watching, (and both available here on RUclips, I believe,) but the '39 iteration is by far the best.
Great list of movies! I, Madman is one of my favorite horror movies - very unique and easy to rewatch. The Haunting of Julia is based on the Peter Straub book Julia and it took me years to track it down on physical media. Thanks for all the great titles in this review.
Yay, so glad to hear someone talk about Sole Survivor!! I saw it when I was working at a video store during high school back in the 80s and I just loved it! Then recently I saw it on Shudder and I was so excited! It is one of my favorites!
This is a good list. Haunting of Julia is classic. I love the score and cinematography. It's good to see I, Madman and Sole Survivor getting some love. Two others that are pretty good but never seem to make these lists are The Night Andy Came Home AKA Deathdream and Let's Scare Jessica to Death.
I LOVE The Haunting of Julia. It is truly creepy. I watch it at least 2 - 3 times a year. And the ending is so shocking and ahead of it's time, at least in my opinion. I, Madman is so good, but haven't worked it in a long while. Sole survivor is one I have never seen. My weekend now has plans; watching retro movies. Thanks for the video.
I really like these kind of deep cut horror lists. Had such a great morning having a coffee and hearing about movies I would absolutely watch. Really good stuff and happy to subscribe.
I am loving your channel! Yesterday I watched all of your favorites by decade videos and added dozens of films to my streaming to be watched list! I first saw The Caller back in the 80's. I'm a huge Malcolm McDowell fan. The ending is just devastating! Great content. Thank you for your dedication!
Hi Daniel! I can always count on you digging up some movie I haven't seen that I would be totally down to watch. Case in point - The haunting of Julia. Thanks so much for keeping us horror fans in the know. Appreciate you.
I can't believe the first movie was Hell's Trap with Mexican icon Pedrito Fernandez, I never click subscribe so fast!! Mexican horror retro movies have a very unique vibe! Epic list, thank you!
Terror Castle is a movie I watched repeatedly as a kid. It was played on my local late night horror hosts' show often. As an adult I sought it out and found that the original title was The Virgin of Nuremberg. Check it out, if you haven't.
Glad you are enjoying Mexican horror movies, maybe a top 10 of that topic would be a nice addition, here are a few I would recommend "La Tía Alejandra" "Even the wind is afraid" "Darker than night" "The book of stone" "Cronos" "Alucarda" "Historias violentas" "Skeleton of Mrs. Morales" "El Vampiro" "Poison for the Fairies" "All of them Witches"
Great video Daniel , im from Mexico and i must say the protagonist of hells trap ( Pedro Fernández ) is our "screm king" he had other 3 horror movies ( vacaciones de terror 1 and 2 , Panic on the mountain ) and charly is a well known comedian so funny and . underrated
I just watched The Caller based on your recommendation, and…I can’t say I enjoyed it exactly, but I’ve certainly never seen anything else quite like it. I didn’t feel like the ending justified the ride, but I was certainly captivated the whole way through. Love your channel. Thanks for all your hard work!
Good to hear some attention for MILL OF THE STONE WOMEN, quite an effective and visually rich piece. SOLE SURVIVOR sounds very much to have been inspired by CARNIVAL OF SOULS.
Your enthusiasm, excitement, and positive attitude has gained you a new subscriber as of this one video! I love me some retro horror--Gen X 80's kid here--and this video alone made me want to watch more of you in action. Thanks, man, well done!
Love you and the channel. Keep those insightful and passionate reviews coming. How did I ever miss The Cat and the Canary?? Loved it. Great old black and white, atmospheric, funny and sometimes scary fun! Thank you.
Some great recommendations. Mexican choices seem right up my alley. Just picked up Witches Mirror and the Crying women after seeing your Mexican box set review. They were great films
From Mexican Horror movies I recommend you ALUCARDA- THE DAUGHTER OF DARKNESS (1975) THE SEXORCIST- SATANIC PANDEMONIUM (1974) and THE NIGHT OF 1,000 CATS (1972)...these three are great
Thank you greatly for showing us all of these hidden gems. I've literally watched the movie 'Homicidal' straight after your show and Wow 😮 what a tense film and the twist at the end blew my mind 🥴 keep up the good work 👏 👍👌
Awesome video, really loving your channel. Checked out Sole Survivor and was blown away! It very much reminded me of It Follows and Carnival of Souls (2 films I LOVE). Despite the fact that it was extremely dated (I can’t stand 1980s fashions, I think it was such a tacky era lol) I throughly enjoyed it. I thought the lead actress was very believable and it had great, moody atmosphere and a satisfyingly ponderous quality. If it wasn’t for this video, I may have never heard of it or watched it, so big kudos to you for uncovering such a hidden gem! 👏 🙏 ✨
This is my favorite horror topic. There is nothing better than mining for gems. Another good decade for underseen horror is the 1999 - 2009. Maybe the topic of a future video?
i thought the same thing about the ending of "Haunting of Julia".. I was not expecting that ending. "The Caller" is on youtube and the premise is ruined in the description that was unavoidable to see.
This was an excellent list. I haven’t seen the Cat and the Canary since the 1990’s and I agree that it still holds up nearly ninety years later. I’m definitely going to check out Soul Survivor as well because that sounds quite memorable based on your review.
Just watched Kiss of the Vampire last weekend - nothing beats Hammer atmosphere! Caught After Midnight and Sole Survivor last year. After Midnight is one of the more fun anthologies I have watched in recent years. Sole Survivor is solid too! And thanks for the additional recommendations!
Wow so happy ypu are telling it to other about Mill of the stone woman was so intrigued when I can red across this gem Love it Notheard it mentioned on other sites!!
@kellyway892 Thank you for buying "THE HAUNTING OF JULIA", and I am so pleased to hear that you love the film, which is very much appreciated, as I worked on this as a young child Actor, in the Park Playground scenes with Mia Farrow,, One of my personal favorite jobs over the past 50 years in the industry, and so on behalf of myself and fellow Cast & Crew, it is so nice to know new people are discovering our film, and enjoying it, and I have a video on my channel where I talk about working on the film back in 1976, for anyone interested
Great review! Your enthusiasm helps a lot. I'm going to find The Cat and The Canary, Homicidal and I, Madman this weekend if I can. Kiss of the Vampire if I can, too.
Great list, some I've seen and others I need to check out. I'd recommend Warlock Moon, low budget but still atmospheric and creepy. It stars Laurie Walters and Joe Spano. It features an outstanding scene in an empty swimming pool. Love your decorations, btw!
Thank you for the recommendations. Definitely going to check out Homicidal, The Caller and Sole Survivor. I love The Haunting of Julia, gets better with each watch, and has one of the greatest horror scores ever. Some recommendations for you are the British horrors 'The Appointment' (1981) with Edward Woodward and Speak No Evil (1971) with Mia Farrow, and the K-Horror 'R-Point' (2004) and J-Horror 'Marebito' (2004).
Awesome list there Daniel! Homicidal is one of my fave W.Castle movies... and that twist reveal, I did NOT see coming! Mill Of The Stone Women was a blind buy for me, I got that chunky Arrow set too and the film is brilliant!! I, Madman and Sole Survivor are now added to my watchlist on LB. Never seen them!
@cobwebschannel have you seen the William Castle film "Macabre" from 1958? It's top notch horror/ suspense melodrama with spooky graveyard scenes as only William Castle can deliver.
Great list. I'd also recommend "Violent Midnight" from 1963. It's an early proto-slasher movie set around a women's college. Not exactly a masterpiece, but it was pretty ahead of it's time and a fun watch.
A few of my favorite "forgotten" underrated horror movies: The Other Let's Scare Jessica to Death Magic Brotherhood of Satan Lisa and the Devil Tourist Trap
I have small children… that apple scene.. I’m freaked out!! Apple sauce it will be. This was a really good list! One of the best recommendations I’ve heard in a while. Thank you
Sole Survivor makes me think of the TV movie, From the Dead of Night starring Lindsay Wagoner, and Bruce Boxleitner. Great movie from 1989. Great list, too.
Great video as always Daniel! Top William Castle movies might be a fun one for the future. Keep it up, best part of the day is seeing you added a new video.
I love After Midnight, was on HBO a lot when it first came out then quickly went away. It deserves so so much more love. Also love I, Madman. Also saw it on HBO when it came out I saw the last 20 minutes getting up early for school, haunted me over my cheerios 11 year old me lol
Great video as always Daniel. I really appreciate a channel dedicated to older horror movies (which I love) I checked out Homicidal based on your recommendation and loved it. I’m now on a journey to watch more William Castle movies. After Homicidal I watched Strait Jacket which was great as well. Any plans on doing a ranking of William Castle films in the future?
I'm not sure where you are, but you should check out the Mahoning Drive-In in PA. They are a retro 35-mm only venue that has horror festivals, among other things. They've hosted Bruce Campbell, John Waters, Lloyd Kaufman, and a ton of retro celebrities!! It's an amazing time!!! I think you'd love it!! 😊

Yeah they’re so different, but I really love them both. Hard to even pick a favorite.

Ghost Breakers (1940) is a sorta quest-sequel to Cat and the Canary with Hope and Goddard which is really good. I like it better.

I'd recommend Warlock Moon, low budget but still atmospheric and creepy. It stars Laurie Walters and Joe Spano. It features an outstanding scene in an empty swimming pool.
Love your decorations, btw!
Love your channel just found you. Great movies and great commentary.
Good countdown I have the old VHS copy of I Madman. I also have seen Kiss Of The Vampire Homicidal of Svevgoolie a few years ago really good movies.
Great list, haven’t heard of a couple of them! Also, you need to see the 1927 version of The Cat and the Canary!
Agreed. Sharp movie.
I totally should! I know it got a nice Blu-ray release recently.
Great video, Daniel - thanks for introducing some movies I haven't watched yet (just in time for the spooky season).
Thank you so much for posting i've naver heard of any of these movies i'll check them all out! I loved the video! 🤗🙂
I plan on reading Full Circle/Julia this October. Hoping to watch the movie too. Very excited
I saw Homicidal at Alamo’s Dismember the Alamo. Mind-boggling that this film is so underrated. One of the top 20 Horror films now.❤
That’s AWESOME.
@cobwebschannel have you seen the William Castle film "Macabre" from 1958? It's top notch horror/ suspense melodrama with spooky graveyard scenes as only William Castle can deliver.
Great list. The Cat & The Canary is so much fun. Benny's Video is a brilliant disturbing German gem!
Back in 1989, it was a Horror/Comedy entitled, Midnight. Starring Lynn redgrave and Tony Curtis.
Great list. I'd also recommend "Violent Midnight" from 1963. It's an early proto-slasher movie set around a women's college. Not exactly a masterpiece, but it was pretty ahead of it's time and a fun watch.
A few of my favorite "forgotten" underrated horror movies:
The Other
Let's Scare Jessica to Death
Magic
Brotherhood of Satan
Lisa and the Devil
Tourist Trap
Another great video! Love the atmosphere in your videos
I love to hear that, thank you!
I have small children… that apple scene.. I’m freaked out!! Apple sauce it will be. This was a really good list! One of the best recommendations I’ve heard in a while. Thank you
Jenny Wright, the female lead also starred in the movie, Near Dark. It great movie about vampires! 🤘🧛
Yes, I would love to do that!
I love After Midnight, was on HBO a lot when it first came out then quickly went away. It deserves so so much more love. Also love I, Madman. Also saw it on HBO when it came out I saw the last 20 minutes getting up early for school, haunted me over my cheerios 11 year old me lol
Great video, I’ll definitely be checking a lot of them out.
My underrated and lesser known gem is Mansion of the Doomed (1976).
Just subscribed!! Absolutely LOVE the content I've seen so far. Can't wait for more!
Hey, thank you! Welcome aboard! 🎃
Sole Survivor is also one of my favourites from the early eighties, hugely underrated, you might even say it flies under the radar lol Great list!
These are the kinds of movies I want to see never heard of any of them can’t wait to check them out
Great video as always Daniel.
Great selection with a couple I haven't seen. I have a soft spot for the Hammer film as its the 1st I saw as a child
We had too many slasher movies in the 80s and not enough decent monster movies.
The slashers were the monsters of the day.
We had too many monster movies in the 30s and not enough decent slasher movies.
These days we have nothing decent
Sole survival also sounds like one of my favorite films levers, and that's carnival of souls (1962)
Yeah, that’s a great observation! I also love that movie.
Nice list!
