I've owned an Iris Blue 1996 C2 6spd manual for 11 years now. Previously owned for 10 years by my doc. All I've really had to do is change the oil and fill 'er up. Unbelievably reliable car, sounds fantastic and always turns heads.
Today Porsche announced the new GTS versions of the Boxter and Cayman, but if you can’t stretch to the £50k asking price, perhaps you’d like to view our buyers guide to what some consider the last “pure” 911.
I can't wait to drive one of these 993s one day.
I literally would do anything to own one day. Back in the day when cars were more about driving and feeling than fancy looks.
993 GT2 has to be one of the best looking cars ever made
Daniel Kriedt agreed
Daniel Kriedt the 993 and the 997 GT2's are amazing.
C4s
If you like EGGS !!!! And IMS bearings that fail....PLEASE..!!!
Porsche = Glorified Volkswagen.....NEXT ...MIC DROP DAWG !!!!
Thanks! On of the greatest cars of all time and a great investment...
993 the best 911!
good video!
Excellent and highly informative video. Answered all of my queries succinctly. Thank you. Now the biggest decision is a manual C2 or C4.
993 2S is the one!
Great video!! Can you do one on the 997/996?
On my 3rd year of ownership and all I do is change the oil my self and keep the gas tank full. No problems.
I had a '96 Carrera 4 coupe, silver over black. Great car!
+Paul K Bummer you got rid of it because you'd have a small fortune in your driveway now lol
1998 993 2S manual is the one! Split grill like the 356, real wheel drive, lighter than 4S and lower production #’s.
I still prefer the 964 version, for it's classic looks, but with a few mechanical upgrades from the 993 would make my perfect Porker !!!
Nice video and review !!!
993 is 80% different & improved over the 964. Best Porsche ever and last of the air cooled.
@@leonardoluc6362 yes was the last, but uglier than the classic looking 964 in my eyes and you can add the engine / gearbox and interior bits and bobs, whilst retaining the purer / more beautiful design with those upgrades from a 993 and then it’s the ultimate air cooled for me , especially if you like the classic targa look 👀
Porsche 993 is my favorite model.
Bought a 993 4s 1996. 49 000km! Very happy :)
I envy you congratulations
OMG fabulous car, congrats. But my money is on the 993 2S manual, both have the turbo body harder to find, lower production #’s, lighter & the 356 grill.
How interesting that the 94/95 was the least sought after in the used market. Now, in California the OBD1 models are more sought after for the ease of SMOG test passing
can we have more videos like these pls?
You do need to remember this is a car from 1996, so pretty much super-car performance in it's day and as usual with porsche, it's always been the practical super-car so always giving away the edge on outright performance to the likes of contemporary Ferrari machines. Got to say my 1996 C2 is an absolute joy as a weekend drive and other than normal servicing you would expect with something special, it's been no great trouble. As for any classic, don't buy the cheap one that's been unloved...
Gt2 today £1,000,000+
gt2 when this video was shot £300,000
I wants the s model with the wide arches.
This is without a doubt the pinnacle of 911's I ordered 2 1997 993 turbos in the summer of 96 , and I drive the guards red one ,to this day , I have been offered staggering amounts , for the garaged one ,with only 120 miles . Maybe I'll one of them someday , if you can find one in good shape for under $180,000 , if you can keep it for 5 Yeats , no investment will ever give you more return .
Why don't you drive it more?
+The Venom Hoon I do drive one of them , it has 49,000 miles on it, The reason I ordered two was so I could keep one in museum quality , 100% original .When I got word that the 97 would be the last year of the air cooled 911 .I went all out , if I'd had the money I'd bought as money as I could. They are the best modern day Porsche investment.
ROYALTON COAL true
ROYALTON COAL Yes the Turbo is extremely valuable and as for the Turbo S!
Weird flex, but OK.
2:01 that scene was so sexy i've watched it a dozen times lol
993 are the best air cooled engine money can buy. But with a water jacket you can increase your power envelope to 620bhp like in the 997 GT2!
love that car. i just found one 1996 993 from Japan, and they want 50,000usd for it. is it worth that much? though the condition of the car from the photos look very clean and good. Any advice or recommendation? Thanks very much if you could give some recommendation. cheers
Did your buy it?
Good to drive no doubt but I didn't get interested in 911 until the 997 came out, Carrera s now yours for 20,000
Today 993 2S and 4S are $ 100K and soaring +++ . Last of the air cooled Porsche. All 993 models are great. Personal i want the 2S manual, as they are rarer with lower production #’s, lighter than 4S, 356 grill, for sure looks stunning, turbo body for the looks and low maintenance of the 99s, get them while you can.
The enthusiast will always prefer a manual box
"VarioRam engine" - for the rest of you who don't know 993s that well and couldn't understand the guys.
What is VarioRam?
And from what year was RarioRam made?
Thank you
it is a supercar. 96 supercar :)
This guy is very crisp. Pardon the pun.
I wonder how this all translates to owning one in Australia
That'll probably just come down to how far your nearest Porsche specialist is.
Come on classic car market, burst already! I'd love a 993 C2S if it was around the £20,000 mark, £35-£55,000 for a C2S is too much in my opinion.
Seige CJ well I know its not good to buy cars for investment purposes since they're meant to be driven but, assuming you keep the mileage fairly good, the car appreciates faster than the rate of inflation. Youre making real profit and owning one of the best cars ever made.
Should have invested. A Carrera 2 is £50000 today
2S is the top with low production #’ last air cooled Porsche
It all went downhill from here
thankfully, you're no professional in the industry - because sheer sales of the 2013 Cayman suggest totally otherwise
Actually it went way uphill...911 GT2 RS is now the ‘Ring King at 6 min 47 sec or so on the Nordschleiffe...not to mention the accolades going to all the other Porsche products. Porsche life has never been better...
$10,000 dollars for the car with 123K miles worth it?
You mean 100000 right?
+Lars van Driel (wasabbijoebobby) yes 123,000 miles
if it's a 1997 ,your getting a steal.
lol, next to the Majestic 2013 Cayman, this looks like it was designed by a kid who's bottle got spiked with kronenberg-full strength!
cars generally before 2010/11 look so stunted and amateurish, understandably
It's the diddy wheels and jacked up stance. Change suspension and wheels first. Gorgeous car.
When patriotism is something to be forgiven. Smh
I switch off as soon as the so called experts don't pronounce Porsche correctly. And the 993 simple isn't the best 911 at all. Move on for god sake. I'd much rather have a 997.2. Actually i'd rather have a 981s Cayman, all the sports car you'll ever need
I drive a 987.2 manual and I love it
I get a kick out of the talking head. He really hypes the 993 and calls it a supercar "in every way". The 993 is a great weekend toy but let's keep the hyperbole tamped down. My only concern is the prices are getting out of hand.
