Hi Cheryl, love the information you give on different fabrics. To a new sewist like myself, understanding the different types of fabric is really useful particularly as I don't have access to a physical shop. Thanks again.
Landgirlafloat thank you so much 🌷🌷 Yes I remember what it’s like trying to work out all the different fabrics with so much choice around. Thank you for your kind words.
Lisa, thank you so much for always just being you and sharing things that happen to you as well as others oaf us. I think that I will try this skirt as well. Thank you so much for elaborating on the fabrics. I will be ordering some Scuba fabric from you.
Hi Cheryl, thank you for your video on Scuba fabric. I recently picked up a piece for myself but had little knowledge of what scuba actually was (polyester/spandex). Now I am encouraged to make a dress out of the material I have. I find you Stitchy Bee program very inspiring. Thank you.
Lovely skirt Cheryl which goes well with your new cardi which is lovely. Thanks for the info on the scuba, it really helps when you give suggestions of what types of fabric go with certain patterns. Great video as always. Thanks for sharing x😻👍
Hi Cheryl. Great idea to help out with types of fabric. I myself have bought fabrics not knowing what they were one in particular was a scuba. Saath😁 Josie
I just discovered your channel! I’m really enjoying seeing what you’ve sewn and the fabrics you’ve chosen. Hello from America (Oregon). Looking forward to visiting England again and going to all the fabric shops and taking a sewing class as well. Can’t wait to see your next video and see what you bought for a sewing machine!
Thank you for explaining scuba. I look at some last week and it is so different than I thought it would be. I have B4686 and have been wanting to make it for summer too. Your skirt looks great.
Your skirt is lovely and I like the cardigan as well. Thanks for mentioning the sizing for Butterick-I've not used their patterns in many years but have seen B6567 and thought of buying it. Hearing about different types of fabric along with pattern suggestions is very helpful.
Love your skirt! Thanks for the scuba tutorial as well. I’ve never heard of anyone with a Toyota sewing machine - I have a Toyota serger from 1988 inherited from my mother. It was the only serger she ever had and my first as well. It’s a tank!! Works great as long as I keep it cleaned up and use good thread. Look forward to see what you chose as a replacement!
Thank you Cheryl. A fab video. I have so much fabric that I don’t know what too sew with it so your fabric review is great. In my early days of sewing I bought my fabric because I loved the colour or pattern. Looking forward to your next videos. Take care xx
Stitchy Bee my serger is a model 6600. My mom paid $399.99 on September 13, 1988 - she kept the receipt in the manual. Pretty good value as I don’t see replacing it anytime in the near future!
Hi Cheryl, love your skirt it looks lovely. Thanks for the information about fabrics, as a newbie to sewing after some 30 years break it's so helpful. Lynne :)
Hi Cheryl, lovely skirt and perfect for summer.....when it comes 😉. Lovely fabrics as usual and it's always very helpful when you go through the qualities of your different fabrics so more of the same please👍😘
I appreciate your vlogs, I live in an area without many options for fabric, so today's was very helpful. I haven't yet worked up the courage to order online 😉
I love the idea of you explaining the different fabrics, that's so helpful! I would definitely watch more explanations like that. I haven't tried scuba yet but will give this a go - I'm looking at the teal one on your website at the moment - beautiful colour.
Love your skirt I have bought the pattern. Your information on the different fabrics is really useful. I love your cardigan how did you ind the sizing on the cardigan I would like to buy one but not not sure what size to go for ? Love your podcasts.
I wouldn't have imagined the sizing on the butte rich patterns.Ive bought size 22 as that's what I need I'm now going to have to rethink.thanks Also I thought scuba was much thicker so thanks for explaining that.Loved the cardi
That's great ,Cheryl. I have to cut size 18 too. Although buying size 12/14. I've made it several times and have put in pockets last time too. It works great. Yours looks really lovely.
I’m all too familiar with the wacky sizing and the silly accompanying depression it brings. I made a pair of pants in an 18 (I was already sad my measurements indicated I was a size 18) and they were a little tight and the pattern only went to 18. I wanted to cry. It was only a mock-up and I fixed it up but hearing you wear an 18 makes me fell so much better. You’re a slim lady so I feel a lot better about it now. Makes you wonder who on earth would fit their size 6?
Your skirt turned out beautiful. I definitely enjoy sewing with scuba, it sews up so nicely. It seems scuba is definitely coming in a range of pretty designs lately. Btw, the Cardigan looks beautiful on you.
I am totally gobsmacked that you had to make a size 18 in that skirt when you have such a lovely slim figure. When are the big pattern companies going to wake up, because more and more of us are buying Indie patterns for just this reason. Look forward to seeing your new machine.
Thank you for the very helpful video about the different weights of material and ease of sewing with them. I will also bear in mind to use my own measurements when choosing a pattern rather than the size categories on the pattern sleeve. Kindest regards
Love your videos. Is your t-shirt a me made? Also, thank you for showing scuba (& what the fiber content is); I kept wanting to buy it but was afraid...I am no longer scared . Again, Thank You :)
Lovely skirt on you Cheryl. I also love Sew Over It Cardigans, so feminine ! Scuba rocks !!!! so easy to sew with, makes great Trousers, T Shirt type tops & Tunics because the drape is so wonderful & washes like a dream, you could say I really love it !!!! Thanks for your time :0)
I have not found this a problem at all but we are all different !! maybe try something like a T Shirt & see how you go, it will not use much fabric !!!!!
Great video Cheryl. I like how easy scuba looks to sew but wonder if you think it would be too hot and sticky for the summer? I would also like to know what to do with, and how to sew double gauze, as it looks so comfy! Looking forward to getting my order!
Lovely skirt Cheryl, I like how you've styled the Lisa Comfort cardi with it as it's much less formal than with dresses, I'm thinking of buying one myself. I'm never sure how I feel about scuba, I have a few pieces myself and there are some lovely prints in scuba but I haven't sewn them up yet as I just can't seem to pick the right pattern I want to make them up into. Interested to see which machine you went for x
love the skirt and cardigan looks great...im not a lover of scuba, dont the feel or the heat lol...but wow those colours are just gorgeous!!! the teal is my fav. tfs:)
Really lovely skirt and looks good with the cardigan. Great idea to chat about different fabrics, I saw a lady make a Coco at TATB when I went to class last year. She made the funnel neck version in a gorgeous floral scuba and it had a lovely sheen. Look forward to hearing about your new machine, I'm a Juki girl through and through😊
I just found your PC and really love it. Your skirt is lovely. I really appreciate your scuba review. I have been wondering what it is and what it can be used for. I will be looking forward to future PC's Well done!!!
Great video Cheryl. I look forward to them. I bought the Lady McElroy cotton lawn in brushstrokes and you mentioned a pink cardi which I think sold me the fabric. 😆I thought the pale pink but would you look at your cardi in blush pink with it? You didn’t mention which skirt size you went for as surely the 18 was too big. I usually size down in Big 4 patterns as come up as a 14 but there is so much ease in them. It’s a pain when the sizes are split in two though. I’ve used scuba for a Makers Atelier skirt and so easy to sew. I have some from last years K& S show in an abstract pink/ white so may use for my Emma Dress- course at SOI next week. Do you think it will work in scuba? Many thanks Ruth
thanks Ruth.x I bought the pink cardi - the other colour is a coral one I think. I'd choose the pink to go with the Brushstrokes lawn. Yes, I did actually sew the size 18!! (I'm a 31 inch waist). It's big on the hips but the waist band is pretty close. I could have squeezed into a 16 I think but I love a loose fit. There's a lot of ease in the skirt overall, I was thinking it was huge when sewing it, but because the wait band is so deep, the skirt needs to hit the hips, so bigger because of that I think. Enjoy your class - you could run them though surely :-) Yes, Scuba will make a lovely Emma - just watch those pesky please on the back, I don't think they are flattering - ask the teacher how to omit them :-)
Great video again, I do like your info segments. 💕 Very interested in your next video as I currently (well when I've finished my chemo and free of the incumbent breast cancer! 😡) use a 1970s New Home machine from my O level dress course! Very old!! Basic but reliable. Love your fabric range too and looking forward to some sewing later this year when I'm recovered. Keep up the good work!! 😊😍
Kathryn Sweetzer oh my word Kathryn, sending you lots of healing thoughts 💖💖💖💖 I hope that sewing adds some welcome joy after what you’ve been through. Kick it’s ass lovely! 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 Thank you for your kind words 🌷
I love your whole outfit, I've got this pattern already, now I'm looking for a pretty cotton lawn. Is yours in one of your own fabrics? I really appreciate your info on scuba, yours looks so soft and drapey. I scuba a couple of times last year but it was stiff and shiny. Maybe the quality has improved, I might give it another chance. Great, informative videos, I look forward to all of them.
I have been thinking of purchasing this pattern so glad I came across your video. Did you make it shorter by cutting an amount off the bottom? if so would this make it less full? - Which is what I would like if it would work. All patterns I have made suggest slashing the pattern in half and re-joining.
Hi Cheryl Lovely outfit. Can you tell me if the skirt is cut on the bias? Thinking of making this style in the lovely teal bouquet I had from you or do you think a full circle might suit the fabric better? I would appreciate you opinion. Thanks💕

Thank you for explaining about scuba, been curious. And you say viscose is really light weight, difficult to sew, which I've also been curious about. Are there different quality in scuba and viscose knits?
Sage Preaumx thanks Sage 🌷 Generally, viscose jersey is more lightweight and tshirty but yes, the quality does vary from suppliers. In general, price often dictates the quality but not always. Scuba is fairly consistent in quality I think. Just take care to wash it carefully to ensure it doesn’t bobble. 🌷

Ahh don’t be disheartened 😘😘😘 My view isn’t always the right one. Have a go. It’s pretty easy if you follow the instructions carefully. Will let you know if I do a tutorial 🐝
Thank you for sharing fabric types and how to use them. My biggest challenge in sewing is what fabric to use. Well done on your podcasts!
Teresa Libby thank you so much Teresa 💖

Sewing Jenny Demos I know right? I maybe could have squeezed into a 16, but still the sizing is so 1960’s! 😃
Thank you for the very helpful video about the different weights of material and ease of sewing with them. I will also bear in mind to use my own measurements when choosing a pattern rather than the size categories on the pattern sleeve. Kindest regards

Well done!!!
susan wingblade thank you so much Susan 🌷
Thanks for the explanation on scuba, have often wondered about it. Would it be suitable to make a Coco top ? Love the red scuba you had in xx
thanks Chris. It would make a lovely Coco, but would be very warm as Scuba is a polyester, so it's down to personal choice.
Great video Cheryl. I look forward to them. I bought the Lady McElroy cotton lawn in brushstrokes and you mentioned a pink cardi which I think sold me the fabric. 😆I thought the pale pink but would you look at your cardi in blush pink with it? Stitchy Bee Thank you!! Yes, doing some serious arse kicking and sewing vicariously through the lovely sewing community online 😍 xx
Hello! thank you for the scuba info. what needle size and style do you recommend for sewing scuba please? Also what thread size and type? thanks!
Gorgeous skirt. Where’s the fabric from x
Jackie Harrison thanks Jackie, it’s from my online shop, stitchybee.co.uk but all sold out sadly. Lots of lovely lawn coming this week though 👍🏻
Patricia Bentley thank you Patricia 🌷 Yes, the fabric is mine but sadly sold out now, but lots of lovely lawn coming online soon 👍🏻
I have been thinking of purchasing this pattern so glad I came across your video. Did you make it shorter by cutting an amount off the bottom? if so would this make it less full? - Which is what I would like if it would work. All patterns I have made suggest slashing the pattern in half and re-joining.
Dusty Carter thanks Dusty 🌷I didn’t shorten the pattern but I am tall (5 feet 10) it is pretty long. Shortening will be fine 👍🏻
Love the pattern reviedo more!
Hi Cheryl
Lovely outfit. Can you tell me if the skirt is cut on the bias? Thinking of making this style in the lovely teal bouquet I had from you or do you think a full circle might suit the fabric better? I would appreciate you opinion. Thanks💕
Linda Lewington thanks Linda 💖 Yes, the teal bouquet fabric is perfect for this pattern. I think the layout of the skirt does mean it’s on the bias, have a peep at the lay plan I show to the camera.
A full circle skirt would also be fab, but will eat up more fabric, so check the fabric requirements 👍🏻💐
I’ve tried ogling the photo lol but can’t quite see where the selvedge/ fold is, could you clarify as I don’t want to buy the pattern if I’ve not enough fabric. Thank you for your prompt response, you are such a professional lady and my fabrics arrived today beautifully wrapped as always.
Linda Lewington thanks Linda, I’ll email you a piccie of the layout. Thanks for your kind words 🌷
I love your fabrics, never used scuba, how breathable is it?
Julie Ryles it’s like wearing ponte roma which I find ok, not sweaty at all. It is warm though, so suits cooler weather 👍🏻
Can I ask what size of cardi you picked? I am a large 12/ small 14 but maybe thicker waisted than you. Not sure what to go for....
Angela B Hi Angela, I bought a medium which is a 12-14 on the label, it looked tiny when I unwrapped it, but it looks much better on 👍🏻🌷
Looks like your shops growing , Lv the cardi on y
jolynn White thank you Jolynn 💖

Janome Memory Craft 6700p great machine and fast, I wonder if you bought this beauty?
Diane Delaney thanks Diane, all will be revealed next week 😃🌷
Looking forward to the sewing machine video - I’m in the market to upgrade
Donna Hartley thanks Donna, exciting!! 🎉
Aaaah I bought this pattern. My very first pattern! Now I’m very worried as you said the sizes are wrong. Made me laugh when you said about common sense at the beginning of the video, when cutting out the pattern. Im brand new to sewing and haven’t got sewing common sense yet. Please can you show me how to make this skirt?. Even though it seems I need the bigger pattern. (Normally I’m a size 12). Would be good sewing practice though. Feel a bit disheartened 😒
Ahh don’t be disheartened 😘😘😘 My view isn’t always the right one. Have a go. It’s pretty easy if you follow the instructions carefully. Will let you know if I do a tutorial 🐝
