    Thank you Cheryl for all these helpful tips re denim. Great tip too about putting a pin in one end of your buttonhole before cutting it. That could definitely save a serious headache :) Another great pattern for jeans is the Eleanor by Jalie. Love this pattern. They are a pull on jean with "fake" fly but Jean has also a video instruction on youtube for making them up which is terrifically helpful. You might like to try this pattern :)

    A couple of ideas... if you leave your straps long, you can put a button whole on them & sew flat (clear colored, so the are better hidden) buttons on your front flap (to keep them from poking out). On your thread snarling with thicker thread, if you use a larger needle &/or use regular thread in the bobbin, it might work better. ☺ Maybe? ☺

    Cheryl love your dungarees. I've made the Cleo in denim & I was given a great tip for using thicker top stitching thread. Thread machine with top stitching thread on the top, use ordinary polyester thread for your bobbin in a colour to match your denim. Make stitches slightly bigger eg 3mm-3.5mm. Use a purpose made top stitching thread needle in machine. Sew a little slower. I tried & got great results. My Cleo was my most worn item last year. Really enjoy your vlog.

    Hi Cheryl, great dungarees, the best ones I've seen 😐. I think they are very flattering on you. Can't believe you made a size 5, you look smaller than a 14 to me. Great tips. I'm not 100% on them for me yet, but you never know I may change my mind! They go great with your Agnes top. When you do make the Coco, you'll be hooked. A quicker make compared to the Agnes. Would you mind me asking your measurements? I'm a size 3 top in the Cleo and I grade out to a 4 for the hip area. If I do make them, I'd definitely use the same denim you have x

    Haya Cheryl, thank you for your lovely vlog. Your dungarees are great, the fit is great on you. I have an idea with the excess strap fabric, so it does not flap about how about making a loop inside, just like for a belt loop on pants but obviously inside the pinafore bib, kinda also like you find on ties. I hope I have explained that all ok? Hope you are well & not too busy? Thank you for sharing. XX

    Love your dungarees Cheryl. Think the facing is so pretty. I see what you mean re the buttons down the side. It looks great on you though! Great review as always and lovely denims you have in stock. Thanks for the info on them. Amanda from I Sew A Lot did a great video on top stitching using a blind hem foot as a guide. Ever since I seen that video I just love top stitching as it makes it so easy! P.s. you’d make a great children’s tv presenter, especially with that outfit. I’m gonna be 50 this year and will wear my dungarees with pride - if I ever get round to making them, that is! 😻

    On your straps make a buttonhole in the facing near the top. Then just tuck the strap in the buttonhole. It will stay put and no seams showing. 😉

    Lovely fabrics. I bought the cherry denim, I’ve put it in my stash for now but I’m planning a summer skirt.
    I really like the burda pattern so it’s on my list. Just a quick question, could the dungarees be made into trousers instead of putting the bib on I like the side buttons.

    • @StitchyBee
      @StitchyBee  6 лет назад +1

      jacqueline hunter thanks Jacqueline 💐 Hmm, not sure about them becoming trousers, I think probably best not as the cut is to hang like dungarees. You could try though 👍🏻

    Great vlog!!! With regard to the top stitching,,,, did you wind the bobbin in the same thread because I’m sure I’ve heard that you only use it for the top thread, normal on the bobbin. The bobbin can’t cope with the thicker thread.
    You may have done this anyway but was just a thought x

      Looser tension on the bobbin case? If you can lighten the pressure on the presser foot, that might help. Could be a needle problem too. Lots to consider!! : )) Very cute on you : ))

    I have a question about your Hong Kong seam finish. I am making a denim shirt dress. It’s a stretch fabric and the raw edges fray with fluffy elastic threads. I’m wondering if I can get away with a lightweight linen on the seams, or if I have to use the silk recommended for a Hong Kong finish. What did you use?

    • @StitchyBee
      @StitchyBee  6 лет назад

      Lisa hi Lisa, I just used my polyester satin binding as I have lots. Anything would work, just try to make sure your stretch fabric doesn’t pull as you feed it through the binder. If you’re sewing it without a binding folder, then use lots of pins and again, make sure it doesn’t stretch 👍🏻💐

    • @Lisa-nz5hs
      @Lisa-nz5hs 6 лет назад +1

      Stitchy Bee thanks. I do have a brand new binding foot (still in its packaging), so I might try it. Also, yards and yards of linen blend double fold bias binding tape.

    Tell you what annoys me with sewing trouser patterns,,,,,,this stupid below the waist thing that’s been going on now from the year 2000! (Maybe before that)
    When I was young and thin, ( a long time ago) trousers were at the waist. They acted, a bit like a corset and really held your stomach in, even if , like me, you were very slim. All the sewing patterns today are mainly ‘below the waist’ by varying degrees. WHY???
    I could pick a trouser pattern, make it up and it would fit like a glove but even if I was as slim as I was back then, I think I would struggle with this hipster thing that has gone on now for years. I think it flatters, very few people and really don’t know what people see in it.
    Anyway, rant over and your dungarees look fab on you. Your denims are lovey too! Xxx
