That looks amazing, and you explanation was so clear, thank you so much for this video I can't wait to see more of your work. I am just learning how to use this machine, so I am looking for videos to help me so thank you.
Thank you!
Love this! 😀
Thanks for all the useful tips! 👍
Thank you for watching!
For a precise marking when aligning, you can use a White ink marker which comes off with a good automotive wax and grease remover. And the laser burn it right off during engraving. I used this on acrylic and worked like a champ.
I also have a 3d printed jig I made for alignment as well. I plan on doing a video on that soon.
Hello, couldn't help but notice that you stated that the blue tape was the center of where you wanted your image. When you lifted the Tumblr for the camera it looked like it was not centered on that tape. I am trying to do Yeti tumblers and I want the name centered on the yeti logo that's on the bottom and it's always off as well. It's like the crosshairs are not really Center.
Hi - thanks for the video! It was helpful! I'm not clear about the last part before the engraving begins - (speed and distance) - I thought that was for the framing part, but not sure. Is there another video you explain that? I appreciate it! Thanks again for your time and explanation!
I am by no means an expert but, I believe those settings are how quickly the laser head moves while not engraving. With the older style rotary, it can get out of alignment if it jumps just a little. Hope that helps.
You are actually correct Sandra. That setting he adjusted was just for the speed of the framing. The speed of the engraving was to be adjusted on the previous screen.
@@markellewass7306 can you help with how to engrave a more crisp line? I've had some of the powder coating still stay on the tumbler and I have had jagged lines when engraving words.
Hi! So i just got an Xtool D1 and I am wondering, do we need to use anything to "seal" the cup? will it rust or be ruined after using? Thanks :)
As long as the tumbler is steel, you shouldn’t have to do anything but clean up after the engraving.
I have a XTOOL D1 10 WATT LASER. It will mark Stainless Steel very good with CRC Dry Graphite Lube for $12.0 a can.
I spray 3 light coats, let dry between coats. ONE PASS, Laser power at 100 % and speed at 300 mm/minute. WORKS GREAT !! CHEAP TOO.
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.
@@justinmcclung If you can put a piece of green painters tape on your project and burn a small .100 diameter dot at an origin, you can use that to realign it to the laser cross hairs to your project, so you can remove it and clean it and spray it again and reposition it and burn it a second time for a rich black finish.
Did you use laser box stainless steel setting? Or do you use a different speed and power? Came out really good. I've been having problems with mine. It leaves lines in the agreements and I use the settings they recommend
Same, I am having a ridiculously hard time getting the setting right. I have the lines and just can’t get a nice engraving through to shiny stainless. I am going nuts!!
@@markellewass7306 so I sacrificed one cup. On the picture mode section it seems like 200 is a good setting but the 300 setting is super fine. The higher the number the longer it's going to take.
Since this video was created, I now use Lightburn rather than Laserbox Basic. Either way, I use 100% power and 70mm/second with great results. This seems to work well with both painted and powder coated tumblers. I would also recommend getting the newer chuck based RA2 rotary tool. With the chuck system, you no longer need to worry about the tumbler moving around, much more stable.
@@justinmcclung this is super helpful thank you!! I've wasted a few tumblers now trying to get a clean engraving. Much appreciate the tutorials for sure. I subscribed and liked!!
@@kimberlylawrence5957 Thank you!
Great video, are you using the 10watt version of the D1?
Thanks. Yes it is the 10watt version.
what did you rotate it on the settings
Hi Justin , can you do a video on how to put a name or lettering on a tumbler either above or below a image. Thanks
Mr072948, are you looking for the image creation portion or the settings in Lightburn to add it to a tumbler?
Hi there. How long did it take to engrave the whole design? Thanks!
Not long at all.. couple of minutes.
what about power settings? I have a 20w but its not coming out like yours, low or high, do you have overlapping on?
I wish I could help. I don't have overlapping on. I don't know what the settings should be for a 20w. I would use a test cup and do a test pattern with different power/speed settings.
what brand of tumblers are they? can you give me the link if you bought it online please
So far all of my tests have been done with cheap tumblers from Walmart. They are powder coated, not painted though if that helps.
What is your lines per inch set at? We have the same laser but keep getting lines in image we use 80% power 70 speed
This was quite a while ago but I believe it is 254 lines/inch.
Do you know where we can get an attachment to run tapered cups on the chuck ? I had a problem with level it with the regular church due to not being able to tilt it
I would look at Etsy first. There are people who make wood or 3D printed rings that help with this issue.
If you bought the RA2 rotary tool, it should have come with the adjustable leveler, a separate device that holds the end of anything tapered to make it level, parallel to the laser.
I'm trying to figure out how to engrave more clearly. Thoughts would be helpful
I would be more than happy to help. Can you give me some specifics on what isn't clear about your current engravings?
What was the speed set to for the rotation? I keep missing my center mark. I’ve tried slowing it down and rubber bands for grip. It just won’t come back to the original center mark.
I use Lightburn and the settings are.. 360mm/rotation & 17mm rotary diameter. Hope that helps.
@@justinmcclung Rotation settings for Laserbox should be 30.02 mm/rotation. 😊
@@justinmcclung I am getting an oval output (vertically) when engraving my circular logo on a standard tapered beer glass. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I tried the "default" for Rotary Setup > Roller at 32mm per rotation and 17mm Roller Diameter. Lightburn says it doesn't need the diameter and circumference when using Roller. Just for giggles, I tried your 360mm/rotation setting above. The glass just spun and spun, so it doesn't look like that;s the answer. Any suggestions?
@@DanDease I would highly recommend watching this video from Buster Beagle. It should help you get the round logo's altered to fit better. ruclips.net/video/SV3Zfqnhyag/видео.html
@@justinmcclung funny cause I have watched it about three times. I’m doing the same thing he’s doing, but I’m not getting the same result.
Can you help tell me what I am doing wrong , I don’t see the cylinder working on my screen and I have uninstalled and installed the program again to see if that fixed but it didn’t
Sorry, just realized what you were asking. Couple of things I would recommend doing. Make 100% sure the rotary is physically plugged into the cable well. If it is, I would make sure you have the latest firmware for the Xtool. Just Google how to do that. Hope that helps.
Random question, I can’t get my red crosshair on. Any suggestions?
What I typically do in Lightburn is turn on the laser at 5% to put it in the right spot. Works well for me.
Thanks for the video very helpful I have the 20W D1 Pro I assume you are using 100 percent power of the 10 watt my question is if I have the 20W does that mean I have to use half the power?thanks in advance
I wish I could give you truly accurate advice but since I have yet to play with a 20W laser, I cannot. But, I would think the logic holds true. I would keep a scrap tumbler to do nothing but testing small patches for things like this. Then you can test a small section and adjust as needed. Good luck!
@@justinmcclung thank you very much for the fast response I'm going out now to pick some up I should have some answers by tonight thanks again
@@raffiem let me know how your testing goes. Good luck!
@@justinmcclungso far i have been using the creative space and chose the Stainless Steel mug settings which is 100 % and 30mm/sec great success
@@raffiem Awesome! Glad it is working out for you.
I am using the D1 to engrave tumblers and the engrave time says, for example, 35 minutes at 50 speed setting. But the actual time is almost 4-5 hours! I don't know what I am doing wrong. Please help! I'm new to this and I'm guessing it's a simple fix. I've also worked in Lightburn but the dimensions don't come out right, (big sigh with frustration). Thanks in advance.
Garth, sorry I just saw this comment. Not sure I can help but I will give it a shot. Are you using the roller rotary or the newer chuck RA2 rotary? What are your power and speed settings?
wrong file type, use a raster file.
hola que liquido usaste para limpiarlo ?
Something called LA’s Totally Awesome and a magic eraser.
I like to know the Setting for the power and speed to engrave on this bottle thanks
I use 100% power and 70mm/s.
I am experimenting with my D1 Pro 20W right now. 100% power is too much as is 70%. The images do not clean up all that great. Others elsewhere are using 30%-40% power which is my next move.
What power did you use and what speed?
Lightburn - Illustrator File - 100%, 70mm/s
@@justinmcclung Great video, What Line Interaval (mm) or Lines per Inch did you use?
Thanks. I seem to have the best luck with line interval .1mm & 254 lines/inch.
Have you tried 0.08mm for interval? The laser spot is supposedly 0.08mm in x and y on the 10w
need that song!
Roman, the info for the song is in the description of the video.
Was this a D1 or D1 Pro
This is a 10w D1.
Power setting???
I use 70mm/sec and 100% power on a 10watt laser. Hope that helps.
What a waste of Parmesan cheese 🥺 solid video nonetheless. Thumbs up!
Thank you?
