I studied with the JWs for about 9 months, don't judge they were the first church I checked out when I started believing in God. Anyway the first stumbling block for me was John 1.1 their version says the word was 'a' God. I said to my instructor "didn't jehovah say in Isiah that "I know of no other gods" my instructors looked at eachother with a hard look and he said let's skip that question for now. Just trust in the lord and die patient, that I don't have the wisdom yet to understand why that's not a problem. They never got back to it so more of these stumbling blocks started forming till I was tripping everywhere! Eventually I had enough and left, they scheduled for me to discuss these things with the elder at the hall but I didn't even keep the appointment.
They stalked me for a couple weeks after that as well... looking back I'm sure they were just concerned. I totally ghosted them after I realized that both Daniel and John the revelator see St Michael and the son of man in their prophecies and neither mentions that they're the same being. It was like ok this whole JW thing is BS. I stopped trusting all Christians after that and stuck to the Bible only. I figured every denominstion out there just cherry picks the bible to build their theologies. No theology is perfect so why be a part of a church at all? Ended up a calvinist for 10 years with a low church mentality. I went to a presby church but never settled on a denomination before being confirmed this easter. I'm now catholic and sooooo much confusion has been cleared up. I've been obsessed with catholic apologetics like a thirst I can't quench. I just love how true it is... when I was with the witnesses, they called catholics counterfeit christians but the opposite is true by every metric and its super easy to prove.

Please Don't let that cult keep you from believing in Jesus and God! Actually the Greek Linear Translation written in 1906, published by Watch Tower regarding John 1:1 is as follows: According to their own translation, God is given 2 names: the 2nd name given is "Outoc" or "THYTOZ," which interpreted from the Greek means the "Word." Jehovah Witnesses interpretation is as follows: In the beginning the word was, and the word was with God, and the word was 'a god.' This one was in the beginning with God." Jesus was the "word" of God. This scripture according to the interpretation of the Jehovah Witnesses disproves their "False Doctrine" that Jesus was the Arch Angel Michael! It upholds His Diety as the Son of God and if God the Father said" Here is my son...He died for you ..he is the only mediator..." I will my knee to the name of Jesus!

Thank you Bryan. My sister-in-law who is Jehova Witness kept telling me as a young girl (her and my brother kept trying to witness to me but I was never interested) that it was the same Bible. They go specifically to Catholics and show them "it's the same Bible". And so many Catholics fall into the trap because they really believe the Jehovah Witness Bible and Catholic bible are the same. Not sure if my brother and sister-in-law really believe/know they are the same or not. As I got older, I started noticing differences....and big differences too. Thank you for educating us on this. @wordforever117 The NWT's rendering of the anarthrous predicate theos at John 1.1c as indefinite, "a god", is correct. There is nothing in the grammar or the context to understand it as definite, "God." Most scholars up to date with their studies of the Greek recognise this. Comparing Bible translations proves little and does not show which is the correct translation. By the way, I own copies of over 50 English Bible translations. I have no need to go to any 'Bible hub'.

Try Exodus 6:3 in your King James Bible. Oh and Genesis 22:14 and Exodus 17:15 and Judges 6:24 and Psalms 83:18 and Isaiah 12:2 and Isaiah 26:4. That should tell you who God Almighty truly is. Potty mouth. And yes im fully aware of his name being YHWH but Yeshua without the vowels is YSH NOT YHWH so still that's not Jesus. And Isaiah 60:16 says They will certainly have to know that I am the LORD your Savior, and the powerful one of Jacob is your repurchaser. The powerful one of Jacob is Jesus, just like Isaiah 10:21 says he is as does Luke 1:32, 33. So who that at Isaiah 60:16 that's called LORD your Savior???? Yeah it ain't Jesus potty mouth. There's a ton of differences, actually. You can look them up online. One of the biggest is that in John 1:1. It says Jesus was God. The JW book changes it to Jesus was 'a' God. So apparently, there's more than one God now. And any and all passages referring to Jesus being worshiped, they changed the word worship because they don't believe he is God.

Yes the JW Organization have their own Bible but what’s more Interesting is they changed Bible passages to fit their belief system. For example at Colossians 1:16 In the KJV it says Jesus created all things,in the NWT it says Jesus created all other things. Another example is at John 1:1 where they really alter the scripture to fit their belief system that Jesus was created.

      @brucebarnard 2 месяца назад

@misterauctor7353 As I've written elsewhere about this. The Son is said to be the πρωτότοκος πάσης κτίσεως(v.15) which is undoubtedly partitive genitive and which means the "firstborn" is part of the group "all creation", that the firstborn is itself a created being, the first one that was created. Also, the Greek verbs Paul uses from v.16 onwards are all *passive* , which shows it is not the Son who is the source of creation, but another is, it being the Father. The Son is the agent that the Father used to create "all things.". Hence, it is the case that these τὰ πάντα, "all things" of v.16 are not the equivalent of πάσης κτίσεως, "all creation," of v.15, and so then are all *other* things that were created by the Father through the agency of the Son. A translation can bring this out by using the English word "other," making what is implicit in the Greek explicit in the English translation. (Compare Acts 5.29, where most translations have the English word "other," though there is no equivalent word in the actual Greek.)

    • @misterauctor7353
      @misterauctor7353 2 месяца назад

@@brucebarnard " firstborn is itself a created being"
Firstborn has to do with ranks.
Quote: "There are several issues with the comment:
      Misunderstanding of πρωτότοκος (firstborn):
The comment interprets πρωτότοκος πάσης κτίσεως (firstborn of all creation) as meaning the firstborn is a created being. However, in Greek usage and within the context of Colossians 1:15, πρωτότοκος does not denote temporal priority but rather preeminence or supremacy. It signifies the Son's unique and highest status over all creation, not that he is part of creation.
Interpretation of Greek verbs as passive:
The comment states that the Greek verbs Paul uses from verse 16 onwards are all passive, indicating that it is the Father who is the source of creation, not the Son. This interpretation is not accurate. In Colossians 1:16, while there are passive verbs ("were created"), the context clearly identifies the Son as the agent of creation ("all things were created by him"). The passive verbs indicate the reception of action, not the source.
Equating τὰ πάντα (all things) with πάσης κτίσεως (all creation):
The comment suggests that τὰ πάντα (all things) in verse 16 are not equivalent to πάσης κτίσεως (all creation) in verse 15. However, grammatically and contextually, Paul uses these terms to emphasize the comprehensive nature of the Son's role in creation. They are not intended to be mutually exclusive but rather complementary in describing the extent of the Son's creative agency.
      Translation suggestion:
The comment proposes translating πάντα (all things) as "other things" to distinguish it from πάσης κτίσεως (all creation). This translation suggestion is unnecessary and imposes a distinction that is not present in the Greek text.
In summary, the comment shows a misunderstanding of Greek grammar, semantic nuances, and the theological context of Colossians 1:15-16. It incorrectly interprets πρωτότοκος πάσης κτίσεως as implying the Son is a created being, misinterprets the passive verbs as indicating the Father as the creator rather than the Son, and proposes a translation that does not accurately reflect the intended meaning of the original text. These issues stem from a lack of familiarity with Greek language nuances and theological interpretation principles."

What reputable scholars say about the New World Translation of John 1:1:
Barclay: Dr. William Barclay, a leading Greek scholar of the University of Glasgow, Scotland: "The deliberate distortion of truth by this sect is seen in their New testament translations. John 1:1 is translated: '...the Word was a god, ' a translation which is grammatically impossible...It is abundantly clear that a sect which can translate the New Testament like that is intellectually dishonest."
Bowman, Robert Bowman, All scholars agree that in John 1:1 "logos" is the subject and "theos" is the predicate. This sets the translation of John 1:1c as, (The Word was God" not "God was the Word". Jehovah's Witnesses, Jesus Christ, and the Gospel of John.)
Boyer: Dr. James L. Boyer of Winona Lake, Indiana: "I have never heard of, or read of any Greek Scholar who would have agreed to the interpretation of this verse insisted upon by the Jehovah's Witnesses...I have never encountered one of them who had any knowledge of the Greek language."
Bruce: Dr. F. F. Bruce of the University of Manchester, England: "Much is made by Arian amateur grammarians of the omission of the definite article with 'God' in the phrase 'And the Word was God.' Such an omission is common with nouns in a predicative construction...'a god' would be totally indefensible." [Barclay and Bruce are generally regarded as Great Britain's leading Greek scholars. Both have New Testament translations in print!]

Feinberg: Dr. Charles L. Feinberg of La Mirada, California: "I can assure you that the rendering which the Jehovah's Witnesses give John 1:1 is not held by any reputable Greek scholar."
Griesbach: Dr. J. J. Especially the passage, John 1:1-3, is so clear and so superior to all exception, that by no daring efforts of either commentators or critics can it be snatched out of the hands of the defenders of the truth."
Johnson: Dr. J. Johnson of California State University, Long Beach: "No justification whatsoever for translating THEOS EN HO LOGOS as 'the Word was a god.' There is no syntactical parallel to Acts 28:6 where there is a statement in indirect discourse; John 1:1 is direct....I am neither a Christian nor a Trinitarian."

The translators used what J.B. Rotherham had translated in 1893, in modern speech, and changed the readings in scores of passages to state what Jehovah's Witnesses believe and teach. That is a distortion not a translation." (Julius Mantey, Depth Exploration in The New Testament (N.Y.: Vantage Pres, 1980), pp.136-137)

Mantey: the translators of the NWT are "diabolical deceivers." (Julius Mantey in discussion with Walter Martin)
Martin: Dr. Walter R. They use the translation of Johanne Greber who was a spiritualist and who got his “translation” of manuscripts from the spirit realm through his wife who was a medium. I’m a born in JW who left at age 25. I was baptized at age 16 and devoted 70 hours a week of my life for one year as a pioneer minister. I was in good standing and realized the teachings are false. At what university did you read Greek and Hebrew? You make some very bold claims ("they made up their own bible"), which is at odds with even the quite positive evaluation of the NWT by the Catholic Encyclopedia. The content of the NWT is 99.99% the same as every other bible. In the case where there are differences, like John 1:1 or John 8:58, their different readings are perfectky within the scope of what the original Greek text allows. Pretending something different is intellectually dishonest. For these texts other translations can be Found with the same rendering. For "a god" in John 1:1c the earliest translators (into Coptic) give the exact same translation, at least 1600 years ago.

THE BIBLE teaches that Jesus was MADE As Lord and Christ and as Son (ACTS 2:36, Prov 8, HEB 1:5), CREATED/PRODUCED/INSTALLED (Prov 8) , COME INTO BEING/MADE (Mat 21:42 - egeneto) and GIVEN LIFE by the Father - John 5:26 and it uses TODAY (Heb 1:5), and uses future tenses and is a prophecy in Isa 9:6 (Isa 9:6, - WILL BE) . If you are called MADE AND CREATED AND GIVEN LIFE, and NEVER CALLED in the BIBLE as Creator or Maker , then you are A CREATION. ALL FROM THE BIBLE
From the Lord was this (this is referring to the chief cornerstone who is Jesus) , the word WAS is egeneto (made or came into being) - Matthew 21:42 and the exact Greek word used in John 1:3 - MADE, egeneto (came into being) - JESUS WAS MADE/CAME INTO BEING FROM THE FATHER , yes, Jesus was MADE/CREATED!, See also Acts 2:36, Heb 1:5, 1 john 5
Isa 9:6 the word Prince in the Prince of Peace means PATRON ANGEL also Leader. WHO IS the ONE LEADER that we have? Jesus. Now, that same exact Hebrew word was used for Daniel 12:1 which is used for Michael the Archangel. So are you saying there are MANY LEADERS now?

It's 100% impossible. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 1:24 that Jesus is the _power_ of God and the _wisdom_ of God. And since there was never a time when God was without his power or his wisdom, for both are eternal, it means that Jesus the Christ is eternal and one in being with the Father. This is what all Christians have believed for 2000 years, and what all of the earliest Christians believed unanimously.
      Jesus is God:
Jn. 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the *Word was God.*
Jn. 5:17-18 - They try to stone Jesus for “Making himself God”
Jn. 8:57-59 - Stoned for taking the Sacred Name of Almighty God, I AM. And not the only time He did this.
Jn. 10:27, 31-33 - Try to stone Jesus for Blasphemy
Jn. 20:28 Greek: Ho Theos = “The Lord of Me and the God of Me”) - Jesus did not reject this or stop Thomas.
Col. 1:15; Col. 2:9 (Jesus hall all the fullness of Divinity in Him).
Heb. 1:8 (Jesus calls the Father God but here the Father calls Jesus God).
Isaiah 9:6 (Jesus is called the Mighty God and “everlasting Father.” In Is. 7 He is called Emmanuel, which means “God with us.”
Worship is for God alone, yet people worship Jesus and he accepts it.
      Jn. 20:28
      Jn. 9:38
      Mt. 28:9
      Lk. 24:52
Rev. 5 - Jesus praised and honored on same level as Father and with same praise and honor.
Jn 6:44-46 - God came to teach us in Jesus
