Thank you ever so much for sharing this clip!!! Anna O'Byrne is not only one of my favorite Christine actresses. She's one of my favorite musical theatre performers of all time! Her silvery soprano combined with her brilliant acting chops puts her in a very special class. :)

Silver54ful I agree completely! She is one of my absolute favorites! The only three I like more then her are Eryn LeCroy, Sierra Boggess, and Claire Lyon! She is such an amazing actress with a very operatically trained voice which is perfect for this kind of role!

@@marianaarias6750 You and I are on the same wavelength if as far as loving Claire as well as Anna my fellow fan. I have a particular fondness for the classically trained sopranos. I also appreciate how they are trained in the acting department. Bridging the gap between subtle period piece and being modern in emotional agony. These are very difficult waters to navigate but they make it seem like a piece of cake. Do you by any chance own their albums?
Though if we're being brutally honest here the only people I favor in this signature role more then these two lovely Aussie ladies are Lisa Vroman and Rebecca Luker. (May she rest in peace) They have yet to be topped in my book. They just have the magic touch. However honorable mentions (in my humble opinion) must go to Rebecca Pitcher, Rebecca Caine, Sarah Elizabeth Combs, Amy Manford, Elizabeth Southard, Elizabeth Welch, Julia Udine, Celinde Schoenmaker, Harriet Jones, Ali Ewaldt, Kristi Holden, Elizabeth Loyacano and the one who started it all- Sarah Brightman. Never the less, even the actresses I am not fond of in the role still earn my respect. This is not just challenging score to tackle. Christine is a character that must be transitioned in a carefully architectured fashion. Not to mention there is the beginning where she must do ballet. Even if the actress doesn't go en pointe. No easy feat! A shout out to all of the women who have ever done this role! :)

Silver54ful I agree, every one of those Christine’s were absolutely wonderful! I sadly don’t own any of their albums because my mother is a tail spawn demon who hates this musical, and most of the actresses who have played in the role! (Insert surprised gasp here) It doesn’t stop me for listening to it though, and as long as I live, this will always be my absolute favorite musical.
As far as the role itself, I agree. It is a vocally challenging role. From wearing those heavy costumes, to being able to learn a certain type of breath support to strengthening your core for the role, and then of course being able to hit those notes and hit them well, all while bringing in the sadness, love, betrayal, lust or excitement into the character. Also trying to stay in that certain time period and learning your lines. And all of this while trying to keep your composure, and bring the magic alive for the audience! Let’s be honest every musical theatre actor has a big job to fill!
Also who would be your top three favorite Phantoms? Mine are
      (1)Jonathan Roxmouth
      (2) Ramin Karimloo
      (3) Norm Lewis
All three men bring something different to the role. Jonathan brings a sultry and smooth voice, and he has the right amount of darkness in him for the role. Ramin, well need I explain why he is amazing? I’ll explain anyway! He bring so much pain and emotion into the role, and he has a beautiful voice. And Norm. Norm just has a quality that makes you feel like the Phantom has a deeper pst then he is letting on to anyone else!
Also Team Phantom or Raoul...Team Christine is kind of a given

Hello again! Who is Claire Lyon?
And by the way you hit the nail on the head with the "one of my" qualifier. That's one of the irritating things about comment threads.
I have 5 favorite Christines, at least 3 Evitas and 3 Fantines on my favorite list.
All bring their own interpretations, vocal techniques.
      Anyway, back to Anna....

@@amyepstein4868 Hello! Lovely to see you found Anna's footage from her understudy days. Don't forget to check out her with Anthony Warlow doing the Mirror scene and the title song. ;)
Claire Lyon is a classically trained soprano and multi-talented dancer from Melbourne Australia. She is best known for being the original principal Christine in the World Tour of Phantom back in 2012-2013. And she resumed the role again (the replacement for Meghan Picerno after she was cast as the principal for Broadway) last year and is still playing her now. As a teenager she studied ballet but decided to pursue a career in opera as she entered for university studies. After graduation she was able to secure a chorus position for quite a few productions. She even garnered a supporting role as Barbarina in the opera The Marriage of Figaro back in 2010. Though earning some attention within the art form that is opera, she sadly wasn't gaining as much ground in terms of a leading lady. So she took note from American performers Kristen Chenoweth and Kelli O'Hara who graduated from college with operatic training but ventured into musical theatre instead. Thus far it has worked out pretty well for her. Along with being cast as an understudy on occasion. (She was the first ranked cover for Anna during the Melbourne run of Love Never Dies) She's been consistantly securing jobs as a supporting actress in serveral musicals. Pirates of Penzance, Anything Goes and Thouroughly Modern Millie. She's done even better as a concert artist throughout Australia and New Zealand. Last but not least. She recorded her own album. Featuring covers of signature soprano character numbers. Roles she hopes to play live some day. Her digital album can be purchased on Amazon or Itunes.
Please check out her videos right here on this site. She even has her own channel in which she has shared posts of her time doing concert performances. She's magnificent!
Absolutely! Could not agree more. Why favor just one person when there's an entire treasure trove of talent to relish watching and listening to.
Oh yeah, and back to Anna O'Byrne. Isn't she brilliant? :)
