I just had a two hour long conversation with my boss on how I’m stupid for leaving my job to go join the Marine Corps. My family say I’m stupid and my friends say I’m stupid. But this decision of my is for something they wouldn’t understand it’s for me a young man living in a soft society drifting towards a environment with a lot of resistance just so I could be the best I can be. It’s not for money for college or learning a skill. It’s about living the warrior ethos. I’m a warrior at heart.

It’s up to guys like you to keep the Corps alive and the way it should be. Weed out the week and take it back! Good luck to you man, it sounds like you’ve got a good head on your shoulders. Tony is right! Joining the Marine Corps is a huge commitment that not to many people can do. That's why they call us "The Few" but after I join in 2002 it was a blast! Became an 0351 Assaultman and traveled the world. Been to cities like San Diego, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Honolulu, and countries like Singapore, Kuwait, Iraq, Bahrain, Djibouti, and U.S. territory Guam. Nobody in my family of three generations did what I did. Now, I have a family and tell my boys about my adventures in the Marines. So remember it is a choice you make for your future! Not everyone else's future. Semper Fi Tony! And Embrace the Suck! O.I.F. Veteran 2002-2006

27 here, I’m considering joining the marines because it’s the top notch branch. Im getting ready to take my asvab and I want to pursue the officer role. Rn I’m on track to hit bootcamp in October 2024. A lot of my peers, Coworkers and friends try to persuade me not to join but I’m not exactly where I want to be in life rn. My mother has health problem's she’s 50 with a defibrillator and other health conditions and I just want to be able to help her for as long as I could. I just want turn out the best possible man she thought I’d become. Taking control of my life.

You’re a legend for this bro, I needed to hear this today! I’m in a unique place in my own life right now, and I’m supposed to meet with a recruiter tomorrow morning actually. My life circumstances have led up to this decision in my own life and I couldn’t be any happier to say, LETS GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD!!! *I’m not in it for the money or resume, nope. I’m enlisting because I feel like it’ll help me to become the leader that God has destined me to be! We live in a fallen world and it’s weak as hell, so I think that the Marines will change my life for good!*

This is extremely motivating. I had went to bootcamp in August of 2018 and I got dropped to MRP (medical rehabilitation platoon) on the 3rd week of training due to stress fractures in both of my legs. It was a really difficult time and it sucks because your training is put on hold and you're stuck recovering. There's a process to get out and go back to training but It's like another mini bootcamp inside of a bootcamp. Everyone who was there was disappointed and the vibe was just sad and angry and it rubs off on you. Everyone wanted to go home but ultimately it's still bootcamp. You can't see your family and you can't go home. I even saw my platoon that I picked up with in kilo company graduate. Anyway, my right leg was worse than my left so they said I can stay on my left leg while I was on crutches. There are still Drill Instructors there and even though we are kinda broken, we still do that those stupid games the Drill Instructors like to play. We did have books, board games and movies on the weekend to keep us from going insane but it was really hard to keep motivation. It took time but I went back to training and picked up with hotel company and had to redo a few days of bootcamp. I was crushing it for a few more weeks until my left leg started hurting and I had went back to medical to find out my left leg was the one that was worse. They said they can't drop me again and that I have two choices, to either stay and push through or to go home and recover. It was one of the most gut wrenching choices I had to make because I thought if I continue what if I end up like the extremely injured people that were in MRP that were getting surgeries, in wheelchairs and suffering nerve damage. I also thought if I go home I would be quitting. But because of fear of failing I chose to go home. I regret it and I have felt this guilt for 3 years now. I did not want to go home but I felt like I had no other choice. I got kinda fat and I lost my discipline and I've been trying to get out of this hole that I've been in and it sucks because no one understands the feeling and l that crap you go through and I've wanted to be a Marine for the longest time. I even tried talking to the Army but it didn't feel natural. Some good things came out of it and I got married and got closer to God and I believe there's a reason for everything. As of now I'm talking to a Marine recruiter again, I'm retaking my ASVAB, I'm losing weight but I still had that fear, regret, and guilt. After seeing this video, I'm happy to say that those feelings are somewhat gone and it's good to know I'm not the only one who has felt that regret, fear, guilt, and disappointment. So I'm on my way to earn that title one more time! Semper Fi brother!

My friends have been there for me through a lot of unfortunate life circumstances. When I told them I was interested in this they kinda rolled their eyes. I went to talked with the recruiter and told them that and they practically tried to talk me out of it. I told them I made a verbal committal and my one buddy broke into tears and went on about how I’m never going to be the same person I am now. And he’s right. I’m going to come back with a level of structure and discipline that you can’t find across any other brotherhood of Americans. And you will to. Do this for you. When your on the bus, look to your left, look to your right. Those men and women are going to be by your side. They won’t let you fall behind.

Great vid for a young guy thinking they can be a Marine. My experience in 1968, the USMC was different than now. My boot was 8 weeks and no crucible. The crotch (USMC) sort of threw us to the dogs. A couple of points you made are very important. It's not for everybody. Boot camp will beat you senseless (I told myself "They can't eat me") You'll despise your DI's until you graduate. Let them scream at you, just do what they say very quickly. You'll miss the DI's when you leave boot camp. Know for certain in boot camp you are not a Marine. At graduation and you receive your EGA, (Eagle Globe Anchor) you are a Marine. Things change then by other Marines having more respect for you. You are officially one of the devil dawgs. You passed the test and are part of the family. The USMC is a very special group of people. Feels good to be special. Best thing I have done for myself and my country. One of the few things I remember to this day is my USMC service number.

Thanks man. A quote from a buddy of mine is “You’re the only on in your grave”. That mentality that my buddy and you talk about applies to multiple aspects of life. Girls, Jobs (Marines), friendships etc. I made a verbal committal to my Recruiter SSGT Alfred and something I’ll do when im alone or talk to people who don’t want me to join for various reasons is convince myself that this is bigger than me. I shouldn’t do it. Im going to regret it, miss my family and come out a changed man for the worse. That’s a video you should address Tony. Multiple people tell me “Aidan you’re going to go in there and come out a totally different man. You’re gonna get deployed and you’re never going to be the same!” I would argue the opposite. Last year I actually went to a recruiter and i was close to signing papers. I had convinced the recruiter that I wanted to go but then my grandparents, my aunt, and my mom basically influenced me out of it. I graduated highschool in 2021 after 4 years of fucking up my life in drugs I had finally quit it completely towards the end of 2021. I failed my correctional officer psychological exam this year and I just cant stop the feeling of wanting to go. My dad is a Marine and he was happy when i said i was gonna go last year but pissed when i backed out. I just want to feel like i amounted to something in this life. Now that i have a girlfriend i love her very much and shes understanding of it and she encourages me to go as long as it'll make me happy. Im just sick of feeling like a loser fuckup and im glad i have her to support me through everything. Im thinking of talking to a recruiter again soon so i can get a job i want and become a Marine. its truly hard out here but i really want to go and do military police.

I ended up getting dropped from the Poolee Program. I let outside influences get to me and causing me to rethink everything about my life. Family being "supportive" but talking behind my back about "how he won't make it". Seeing others out perform me in PT and feeling so inferior. I only recently regained the sense of "I must do this" but I had that constant doubt lingering in my mind, but then I found your channel and you gave me the inspiration I needed. Thank You.

Im currently 16, and for the past 8 months ive really thought about joining the marines. Ive never told anyone about it before because i know my parents wouldnt want me too because my mother tried to join but couldnt so she dosnt like them. At first when i thought about it, i thought id forget about it within a few weeks but 8 mounths later its still on my mind full time every day. Frankly im not sure if im just lost and just looking for something to stick onto but ive really had it in my mind that id love to be a marine. I know its probably the hardest thing id ever do and its not an easy life style. But at my current job i think that everything in life is not gonna be easy and if im gonna enbrace the suck why not makeit something i wanna do. Again ive never told anyone about this. And maybe im just commenting this out because i felt like getting it off my chest. I stumbled on this video and i feel how he said it was like for him. A year of uncertainty on where I would fit best in the military was tough because I would tell people where I was going, but in my heart I was not sure and most of me just wanted (wants) to be a Marine. Now I am in the process of getting ready for MEPS. This video has helped me realize I am not alone in my indecision and that it’s important to not let what other people think dictate my life. Idk how they do it, but they really sell it to you. The Army recruiters brought up all these benefits I could get that the Marine corps couldn't offer and somehow, the Marine recruiter convinced me to go with the corps over Army.

I almost joined when I first graduated HS but i got cold feet. I was never the best in school and I tried college. I felt the guilt too and it ate at me every day. I failed out of college. I ended up enlisting in the Marine Corps a year later. Here I am now, about to EAS, I have my associates and almost my bachelors, zero debt, great skills and certs bc I’m an air winger, great memories and I scratched that itch. I no longer wish to be part of the organization but damn am I glad I did it. If you’re thinking about doing it and you’re like 17-20, just effin do it imo. The urge won’t go away, TRUST me. If you end up not liking it, it goes by very very fast for the most part.

I wanted to become a Marine but there have been all these videos and it fucked with my head. I didn't actually want to become a Marine until I was 16 in my Junior year. I always thought I would be going to college after I finish high school and than becoming a software engineer like my dad. But I just don't see myself doing that. I don't want to type commands on my computer for 8 hours a day. My parents are supportive my decision. The ASVAB test is on November 5th in my high school. I am going to take it. What sucks the most? What do you do on your downtime because I’ve heard there’s allot of it. How common is it to see a marine in his mid 20s and how well do they do compared to the standard age of the new recruits. How are the benefits? @SG_Gaming23 11 месяцев назад

I am nervous asf. I’m 21. I’m trying to get ready to join physically and mentally. I plan on going at the end of this year.
I was going to join the army because I had a marine recruiter tell me that I was too tall to join their branch. I’m 6’7”. The army basically said “hell yeah we’ll take ya!” I was still in high school when all that happened. Earlier this year I was told by a marine recruiter that I can join at my height.
I then asked him what about with a GED. He said yes I can still join. I haven’t talked to him since bc once I heard that I have nothing holding me back my nerves just started exploding. My heart started racing and I had an anxiety attack for the first time in my life. 😐.
I was told in the army I would be looked at as if I was standing on the top of a needle bc of my GED. For some context, I was forced to drop out of high school. I didn’t want to. My family kept moving from one place to the other so I was changing schools almost every year. So my credits were just thrown all over the place. When I got to my last school they told me they were going to have to put me back in the 9th grade, WHEN I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SENIOR, because they couldn’t find most of my credits or they didn’t transfer or their credit system is different from the last school.
So I dropped out and got my GED. I was depressed about that for like two weeks before I got my shit together and moved on with it.
I am going to use baseball as an example here. My fear is that when I join I’ll be looked at as if I already have two strikes and they are just waiting on that third one to throw me out. Because of me having a GED.
I want to spend as much time as I can in the marines. I plan on spending 20+ years if I can.
Me typing this right now has my nerves going because it’s something I want so damn bad, but I don’t want to join and fail and look at myself as a failure. I’d rather not join and think of it as a missed opportunity that I didn’t take when I had the chance.

Hey, brother. Thanks for making this video. I started my enlistment with the Marine Corps - I actually went to MEPS, took my ASVAB, and got my medical examination - but I had to get a waiver for a failed hearing test. However, in the process of seeing a doctor about my hearing test, I stopped by a Navy recruiting office. Before I knew it, I signed over a "MEPS to MEPS" transfer and something else so that the Marine Corps could give my information to the Navy; I am now in the process of enlisting as an FMF Corpsman in the Navy. I know FMF Corpsmen train and deploy with marines. However, they are not marines themselves.
With that said, in your experience, were corpsman that were attached to marine infantry units still trained like marines? I heard they were; I saw a video from an FMF Corpsman where he basically said he lived, slept, ate, and trained with marines. However, I am concerned that, as a corpsman, I will not be able to do everything the marines do. The whole reason I wanted to join the Marine Corps was to live, eat, and sleep Marine Corps -- especially as infantryman. So, again, do you think I will be missing out on that brotherhood if I continue as an FMF Corpsman? (Just in case you don't know, FMF Corpsmen are also known as "greenside" corpsmen because they are they ones who deploy with marine units.) Thank you for your input, brother.

I’d see what your doctor has to say. As long as you stick with the doctors healing requirements, rest, Physical therapy, etc.. and also give it ample time to heal properly you should be good to go!

I'm getting more nervous as my ship date edges closer. I backed out once and it felt so wrong and full of regret going back to work the next week. As if I broke up with a chick or some shit saying stuff like "fuck why did I say no?!" haha.. but I got a call a few days later, did MEPS and am shipping Jan 24th. Motor T Vehicle Operator. Still nervous as fuck leaving everything behind for 4 unknown years.

Outstanding Marine. I am extremely disappointed in that recruiter. He should have bagged and tagged you in a heartbeat. Every recruiter has a POOLEE program. When you enlist in the DELAYED ENTRY PROGRAM. That includes every single one whether they are shipping in a week or a month. Your recruiter is there to answer every single question you have about the Corps. He is to train you in basic essential subjects... rank, physical training, common phrases... deck, bulkhead, scuttle butt... education benefits... everything you need to know. To prepare you to go to recruit training. So you know what to expect and what is expected of you. If he is not .. you find a new recruiter who will.
The Marine Corps won't promise you a rose garden. It's the most elite branch of the service. Recruit training is going to demand of you everything you have and then some. But... when and if you EARN the title Marine. You will be a Marine forever. Once a Marine always a Marine.
    Semper Fi.

Thank you for the solid advice! Some recruiters are definitely better than others. I respect them all due to the fact that recruiting duty isn’t a walk in the park, but despite being a difficult and demanding billet, they really should put a heavy focus on mentoring and giving these young poolees everything they need to succeed.
      Semper Fi, brother! 🇺🇸

I’m struggling on picking. I have the opportunity to own my dads business with my brother in 5 years. I’ve wanted to be a marine since I was a little kid. I’m 19 now and came to the realization I can do it now. Some days I wanna join and some days it hits me that I like the life I’m living right now, but I’d say 6/10 times I’m thinking I could be a marine and then beg out then go to school to take over the business. I’ve made myself a pros and cons list and I just don’t know what to do. Do you/anybody have any tips on how you came to the realization or mindset you were just gonna join up?
