I have 4 of my brothers answering questions, explaining how they feel about the Marine Corps and the Marine Infantry. We share what it's like in the day of a life of a Marine Infantryman. I remember my squad leader asked if I was going to re-enlist, and I told him that it’s not for me, and I have bigger things I want to do in my life, and I got my ass chewed for that shit 😂

Trell the Great, Thank you Marine. When I made Sergeant, I never forget my Marines in my Squad. I led by example. As far as I'm concerned... Pvt to Cpl are the backbone of the Marine Corps. I'm an old Marine who served 5 Oct 73 to 4 Oct 77. My most memorable time I experienced was late March 1975; loading out the USS BLUE RIDGE and watching Company D and part of H&S Co. 1/9th board the Blue Ridge at White Beach Okinawa. Knowing they were headed to South Vietnam to either defend or evacuate Saigon. So sad, we lost 2 Embassy Marines in a firefight at Tan Son Nhut AFB outside of Saigon. Be safe Marines, "Ears Up Heads Down" behind the wall or in the hole aka foxhole. Semper Fi, long live Chesty Puller.......OUT.

I'm 29 yrs old. I have a good paying job and I'm pretty much set BUT I've always wanted to be a marine ever since I graduated HS but you know shit happens in life that we take different paths. I know after 29 yrs old you're unable to join. Can I still join the reserves?

Musica De Todo , I went in back in 2006 and we had a guy that was 28 in boot camp. He got the typical verbal old man bs you can think of, but I think actually had an easier time because us younger recruits respected him. Even the DI’s occasionally showed him some respect for the billets he took and benefits that go with, and also because he had he balls to join at an older age

Great job guys! Good to see The Corps is the same after 30+years in the good ways that is! Me and my buddies were exactly were you were over 30 years ago. Same diverse groups from different parts of the country. Suffering together through the same pain and challenges and creating bonds that will last for years. My suggestion to you guys now, is never lose track of each other. Help each other on the outside and get to know arches family. Be there for each other. WHY? Because the outside will never understand what you have been through! They will never understand that you bleed green and don’t see or give a crap about brown, black, white, yellow or red.
As I was told on graduation morning by my Senior drill instructor back in 1984 “As you graduate today just remember, there is only Green that resides in The Corps. Whereas there is greenish brown or greenish red or greenish yellow, and the like. You are green, Marine Green to be exact! You will live a Marines life. You will die with or next to the Marine next to you so get know him, get to know his family. For we our brothers, we all bleed the same green and we only have each other to save each other. Don’t you forget that.”
Those words left such an enduring impression on me, that I have never forgotten them and have tried to live them every day of my life, even at 54!
Semper Fi Marines! And, no worries, you have accomplish so much, that there is nothing you can’t do, once you set your minds to it. Every struggle and hardship I’ve had in life, is look back to my time in The Corps and realize that my struggles really paled in comparison and that I can do it and get through it.

Nobody is "y'all sgt". They are "your Sgt". Entering the Corps is an introduction to an entire cult. They were taught total emersion in boot camp, which explains the good/bad personality changes. The only life they know is the constant authority thrown at them. Rank happens to be a measuring stick that can be either "your first name" or "entourage". Being part of you, your personality won't change. Being what identifies you, you wear it like a crown. Prior enlisted officers are exceptional leaders rank is "the first name" and they lead by experiences and example. Unlike social media, they don't have to be heard with meaningless blogs. Soon after boot camp and school, they quickly discover the "fork in the road"; become popular or really good at their job. They can't have both. Having a blog is NOT a promotion criteria.

My biggest motto as Cpl..I often said this.."Shit rolls down hill-But it ends with me..you will never see it. You guys are the backbone, not me, I just check on anything else while you guys work without having to worry about leave, pay, etc on your mind."

I've been out now 20 years and was in 3/7 Lima Company 29 Palms. And the worst thing was always dealing with the Cpl Nasties who let rank blow up thier heads. Power, authority for those guys was never about being an awesome Marine but rather about reliving thier high school bully years....lol Glad to see you all kept your character intact... Semper Fi

Young Marines, those guys don't change as people, they have a change in duties and responsibilities. It is a part of life. Some folks will let a little power go to their heads but with increased rank comes increased responsibilities and Marines have to adapt and overcome. The longer you stay in and ascend in rank you will have to grow.
Its great to see you hanging out with your platoon/squad. They will be closer to you (and know you better) than your biological family. My best advice is to stay in and enjoy it. You'll never have that bond with anyone like you did in the military. There really ain't shit going on back home.

I did my 4 and did the PMI at Edson range Camp Pendleton then extended for I&I duty. Went to college for a couple of months and then recalled. Love all of it. Just shy of 8 years active duty. Semper Fi

I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps, Boot Camp Parris Island and in to the FMF the memories of being ia grunt prepared me for my life challenges, and the brotherhood and friends I developed was worth every minute in the Marine Corps. Finally I didnt re up and got out a E5 and regret getting out to this day, but in the 70s the pay scale was a big factor. Semper Fidelis Marine's.

Thanks for the video Marines. I too was 4 and out ('96 to 2000). Most of us are. I was a Motor Transport Officer, first with Truck Company, then Headquarters Battalion, then 1st Marines MTO. I got out for family reasons (wife, kids, sick mother). I found the Corps to be a two pronged beast. Loved it! But some parts definitely suck. Being a junior officer is a great privilege (leading young Marines). Having said that, it's also an incredible challenge. The responsibly is heavy. That's why OCS is the way it is. The attrition rates are high, as the mission is to screen and evaluate for leadership qualities. You get guys there that are PT studs and come from some of the most prestigious schools that don't make it for various reasons (NPQ, failure to adapt, integrity violations, poor leadership, etc.). My most memorable moments? Pick up at OCS. Finding our name and U.S. Marines tapes on our foot lockers after some grueling PT at OCS. Beating my company commander at PT. But mostly just working and training with Marines. It can be intimidating when you first take over a unit. But if you stay humble and listen to your NCO's advice and experiences you're more likely to succeed and earn the respect of those around you. Semper Fi and Ooh Rah! Good job on these videos Trell.

I got out in 89 2/9 Infantry and BEQ were nice(if you can get them). We were in Open Squad bays and that One Big Room basically separated by wall lockers.

Rank issue is something you will understand with age. Sorry brothers but that's the way it is. I went in at 22 after college as enlisted so I had a little more life experience in regards to the rank issue. When you are 18-21 you are still trying to figure it out, don't worry, you'll get it, we all did. 87-95, SSGT, 0317 Yep, traded my degree for proper sight alignment and breathing!!!!!

Congrats Gentlemen. PI 1997 1st Battalion Delta Co, this is when I went through. My most memorable moment was getting deployed to Iraq in 1998, and getting shot at with an AK-47, and having to sleep with one eye open every night for 6 months. We were in the middle of the desert in the 130 degree heat the whole time we were there.

You have to be able to understand that promotion brings a slightly new level of responsibility so you can't yank each other's chains all the time the way you used to, but that doesn't necessarily mean they got a big head and changed who they are to you.

It's really sad because you would think, they would take you under their wings and guide you! I will not spend a lot of time trying to defend those Marines...on their behavior! Shame on them!! I've been in the service (Navy), I've been a mechanic, and I've worked in white collar professional industries over the last 25 years of my life and here's the truth--the problem of some people "changing" as they're promoted is not isolated to the Corps, or to any service branch. It's a common problem across all types of jobs. I don't pretend to know why it happens, but it does. It happens, I'm sure, for various reasons, but I think often fear is involved--fear of fouling up and fear of living under the scrutiny of superiors who are watching how we handle promotion. It's like we take on a persona or some role we presume is required instead of just being us with new responsibilities....
Facts
I served for more than 20 years. I have also been a supervisor in the civilian sector in different industries. When people get promoted they have to change because their responsibility changes.
If their personality changes and they become a jerk, they were always a jerk, you just never noticed. People become more of who they are when they attain levels of power.
Corporals have to set an example and that should be the most difficult move for a Marine. As you move up through the ranks you learn more about how you affect those you lead. Good people remain good as they ascend and bad people can become worse.
Reconsider re-enlistment!! Lateral move into another MOS. The civilian life isn’t as glamours as it seems!
The marine corp brotherhood sounds great, I'm in the air force and had that brotherhood experience in bmt, but when I got to my career field of maintenance, the culture is so toxic. It's probably the same in marine corp maintenance though. Maintenance just has a way of bringing out the toxicity.
Hey bro maintenance is something my recruiter wants me to do in the AF could you tell me more about this. Overall it’s one of the last things I want to do. My #1 is special missions aviator.
@@hoodiejack Maintenance, more specifically jet maintenance is a very detail oriented career field, every detail has to be right, from the inside of the core down to the very last clamp. It depends what your job is, but in general if troubleshooting/ taking things apart and then puting them back together perfectly with a little toxicity thrown in there sounds fun go for it.
If I could've chose a different maintenance job I would've tried to get vehicle maintenance, I'd assume they're less detail oriented, plus you get to learn how to fix your own cars. Jet maintenance gives you a great foundation for car maintenance, but you still won't know how to do shit.

The best part of Marine Infantry for me was the chow. RVN 69-70, the C Rats were killer. Ham and Eggs chopped, Spaghetti from 1946, Ham slices in juices, pears and pound cake. Delicious. Mom and Dad sent hot sauce and Wylers lemonade mix for the water. 😂

I decided to go to college after highschool even though I wasn’t a good student. I’ve done 2 1/2 years in college and just decided to be done because I didn’t like it. I wanted to join the military right after highschool but my father convinced me to go to college instead because he went military after highschool and was hard for him to go bad to school when he got out. Now that I decided to be done with college I’m looking to join the marines, particularly infantry and I love your videos. Would you have any tips for stuff I could do to prepare me for the marines?
Rhoner 224 , Honestly just get in as best shape as you can. That’s really all you can do, everything is else will fall in place. And just stay committed and motivated. If you do those things you’ll be just fine I promise.

Tanner a little advice. Boot camp has not changed much since I was there in Oct-Dec73. ONE thing to remember, in boot camp, DO NOT look your Drill Instructors in the eye. Look at his forehead. Get ready for A LOT of yelling in your face, I mean a lot, plus confusion. One more thing, if you go to Parris Island from April to October it will be hot and humid. If you go to San Diego NO high heat or humidity. Good luck. Semper Fi from an old Marine Sergeant.

I want to go infantry in a year after high school but I can't get my parents on board with the idea of heightened risk of IED exposure and engagements between enemies is there anything that shows the risk of becoming injured or getting killed I know it's a stupid question but I want to be fully backed by my family
We are in peace time so you probably won’t see combat also you don’t have to pick a combat job you can do a different mos without seeing combat

What is the enlistment bonus, for 4 years active duty
Bonuses are often given out when the recruitment pool is low. With COVID-19 going on the pool will not be low.

Yea you probably have a better purpose than infantry. You can do something more suitable for your education. You aren’t gonna be a war hero like the movies man be honest with yourself lol

I graduate in two months and I wanna be an 0311 grunt like my papa. But idk man, what would I do when I get out. How would that job give me skills to transfer over to a good civilian job after I serve my four years, so when I get out I can have a good job and my own crib right away? And also there is no major war going on right now, so I'd be training everyday for war but never actually getting to go to one? That would be like me playing basketball everyday but never getting into a game. I might just join the navy and try to be an electricians mate so I can just stack bread when I get out, but idk man, ever since i was a younging I've always wanted to do marines infantry. You got any advice sir?
So you have to do what makes you happy in the long run. And just because we are peace today doesn't mean we will be at peace tomorrow. So you have to dig deep and really think about what's best for you. Because as long as you're happy with what your doing that's all that matters

Is everyone infantry and have any of you guys seen combat? Would you guys be nervous or scared if you guys ever got deployed to a combat zone ? and what is the difference between getting stationed somewhere vs getting deployed ?
Ethan Eickelman , Yes we’re all infantry. No we wouldn’t be scared but of course I don’t care who you are you’re going to be a little nervous you’re first time in a combat zone. And no none of us have directly been in a combat zone. Getting stationed somewhere means that’s where you’re home is, that’s where you live. It’s long term as well, usually stay there the whole term of your contract. A deployment is temporary. Your only in that place for a limited amount of time just to accomplish a certain mission or goal.

Ethan Eickelman , Honestly I don’t pay attention to it bro. Because whatever’s happens happens. I signed the contract to serve and defend this great nation. And I will do what I have to, to accomplish the mission. And whoever wants to stand in our way can suffer the consequences. But honestly you just have to always be prepared for the worst. Got to have a strong mind.

The only thing that holds me back from joining is hearing marines I know or see say they are getting out after 4 years. It seems like no one ever stays in after 4, is it that bad? Like miserable etc.
actually a lot stay in after, but a lot of these are older people who aren't on RUclips making videos
Well, all branches are like that. They do their 1 enlistment and get out. The Marine Corps has the lowest defense budget. So they get all the sh^tty equipment, barracks, and food. The people who stay in have no where else to go. So this creates bad leadership and low morale.

@@Jovan_Zae actually that is only partly true. People join and stay for different reasons. The also get out for different reasons. You can join any other branch of the military and you will hear stories about why some stay while others leave.
You have to figure out what you want out of life and not let people that have other issues persuade you. Your situation may not be like theirs. I will be honest with you, I changed my mind about staying for the long haul about once a month for the first three years.
I am not retired and I have a really good career in the private sector after my time in. A lot of folks that got out now tell me they wished they had stayed in because now they see my retirement benefit on top of what I make in my private sector career.
The bottom line is that you have to be your own man. It's good to be a part of a great team and follow good leaders but there is a mixed bag of folks that get out. Some are food people that found their way. Others cannot deal with follow something that other direct them to do. It doesn't make them bad people but they sometimes give the service bad reviews because they wanted to do their own thing. Do you and be you. Good luck in life.

Every recruiter was calling and knocking at my door with promises of great jobs and lots of bonuses except the Marine Corps. I talked to the recruiter he just told me “we don’t need you, you need us”. People I knew back home that were physically and mentally weak kept telling me “you can’t do it, go to college”. Best thing you can do to a Marine is tell them you can’t do it or dare us. Semper Fidelis brothers

I joined at 21 and being older definitely helped. You are able to figure out the mind games the Drill Instructors play. It is all about breaking you down and removing as many bad habits or behaviors as they can in a short period of time. Then they add the things the Corps need you to have to be effective in your job.
When I was in boot camp, I didn't quite understand why we got dressed standing up. The first time I was deployed on a ship in a berthing area with 30 other guys on the USS Debuke I knew why we trained dressing that way. Back then, there was no place to sit down to put your boots or your socks on. You had to do everything standing up.
Just be in decent shape and you will be okay. Lose a little weight if you can before you go in, it will help.
not thats not too old I know guys that are more in shape at 26 then guys that I was in the infantry with. if anything being older well probably make it better your more mature maybe have even got the drinking out the way I think its a great decision.
Your all lucky to be alive to be able to get out after 4 years, because the life expectancy in infantry during war is short. Get out while you can. Don't reenlist if you want a future.

That’s not entirely true, while people do die in war you are way over pushing the issue. Everyone who signs up for infantry knows the risks and accepts them.

Just do it. That’s the only way . I have severe anxiety . You have to just face it. I was so anxious to skydive but just did it. I can jump out of planes like nothing now. You got this man🙏🏼

@@gardennovice7896 You can overcome it, but only if you want to be a Marine bad enough. When I was in boot camp I had a panic attack at the pool and ran back to the barracks. My DI told me that if I didn't pass the test I wouldn't become a Marine. When they schedule me to come back I was shaking but when I got to the pool there were no less than 5 drill instructors their with one at each corner of the pool and none under an E-6.
I thought they were there to laugh at me but instead, they were their to assure me they weren't going to let me drown. I summoned up the strength and took the plunge and didn't die. Thanks to the MC I learned I could overcome any fear if I put my mind to it. You just need to trust in your fellow marines and not want to fail. BTW, yes I had a near drowning experience as a child in case anyone's wondering.
