in light of the game awards and neil winning for best performance, i'm so glad you got to this moment. neil (astarion's actor) actually disclosed that the entire scene when he kills cazador was his first take and all in one try. the heart his gives this character is so sincere, especially for those like me and so many others who relates to his story, and i couldn't be prouder of him getting the recognition he deserves
I really liked your discussion of the characters. Lae'zel's journey from indoctrination and the pain she goes through really mirrors well Astarion's indoctrination of fear that came from being owned and abused for centuries. The writing for most of the characters is so shockingly great.
your reaction to the sudden naked emperor made me cackle 🤣 when i got that cutscene, i'd also accidentally made my dragonborn run around without a shirt so it really was just me going "WHY ARE BOTH OUR TITS OUT" over and over again 😅
The reason why Aylin is sad after killing the mage is quite interesting, and I love how subtly it is hinted at instead of just being said plainly. As a paladin, she's bound by a sacred oath to uphold justice and adhere to a certain level of morality. By displaying unnecessary (albeit understandable) cruelty towards Lorroakan she's broken her oath, and that's the thing she feels she "lost". I think she may have started to take a little too much pleasure in killing people after the hell Ketheric had put her through, even if killing them was the right thing to do.
@@CuriouslyKay more like speculation. nothing much to expand though. but yes oath breaking is a thing for paladin, and it's not necessarily as an evil thing.
@@CuriouslyKay I'm not sure they do, as I haven't finished the game yet myself, but I doubt they would just say it outright. I am curious if the subject is ever brought up again. It's probably much easier to notice if you've played a paladin yourself, since that exact thing can happen to your character as well and it's a whole big deal, there's even a unique NPC involved!
@@alexwang3282 It is pretty clear that that's what it's about, though. Aylin says "As though I'd lost (...) something. A paladin's fatigue, no doubt." She literally mentions her class right after saying she'd lost something. It's very obviously an intended ploy by the writers for people to go "Oh, she's a paladin...wait, is this about her oath?". If it weren't the case, then it would be an extremely strange and random choice of words. And this game is written way too well for things to just be random.
ik people have said this before but i LOVE how open u are to trusting companions' choices and autonomy. obviously that doesn't always end well, but for characters like astarion and lae'zel i feel like it's so, so valuable
I love that you're empathetic to the characters that some consider 'evil'. Laezel has been indoctrinated her whole life by a brutal regime so really doesn't know how to be different until she spends time away from all that. Even Astarion wanting to ascend is understandable, if you've had literally no power or freedom at all for 200 years of course the thing you would covet most is power and freedom.
I have such a soft spot for characters that start out irritable or cold and slowly grow warmer throughout a story. They really feel like they portray a part of healing from trauma well; sometimes it makes you an asshole until you work through it.
Fun D&D fact: In the lore of the TTRPG, it is known that there are two types of dragons, Metallic and Chromatic. The first kind (Copper, Brass, Bronze, Silver and Gold) are considered the "good" species. The last kind (White, Green, Blue, Black and Red) are the "bad guys".
@@CuriouslyKay orin won't kidnap a romanced companion. she kidnapped Laezel, Gale, Halsin(or Minthara) who is not in your current team. if they are all in, she takes Yenna.
She took Gale for me. I actually keep forgetting to go and try to save him tbh 😅😅😅 though I guess she can’t technically kill him with that orb in his chest 😂😂😂
I defintely feel like Lae'zel is far from evil, whatever people say! (She's lawful neutral for certain lol) She's rude and stubborn, sure, and sometimes her methods are quite harsh, but... it's like she said after the fight with Cazador, she values doing what benefits the collective/society over what benefits a particular individual. Almost always, when she suggests or approves of you doing something "cruel," it's because she sees it as being a sort of necessary sacrifice for the greater good. Like... wanting a child who stole a druidic idol to be harshly punished? It's not because she would enjoy the child's suffering, it's because in her mind, allowing thieves to go unpunished would lead to more crime and chaos in the future. Better to sacrifice one individual's happiness or even life to protect the greater order And when you meet her, she has no room for mercy or nuance in that equation because that's the kind of society she grew up in. It's only over the course of the game and her time with the party that she learns a new way of looking at things. She still values the good of the collective over individuals, but she also sees that connection and kindness can be just as useful as violence and cruelty in maintaining a healthy society, if not more so
Yeah I really do like characters like Lae'zel and Astarion for that reason; their nuance is so refreshing. She's not 'nice' but I've always considered her at least kind or honorable. She rarely lies and is very straight forward about her motivations. She goes out of her way to help the group and even shows compassion for her party members throughout their stories
@@CuriouslyKay Yeah! She's actually incredibly supportive of the others, starting much earlier in the game than you might think. And even when she's in conflict with somebody, such as Shadowheart, it's never out of selfish motivations and she's never backstabby about it. She directly states what her problem is, then demands a straightforward, honorable solution. Even if her idea of a solution is to beat the crap out of each other lol And she still goes along with the party even if you keep doing everything other than going to the creche in Act 1. She just sees no value in being nice about it
I really love looking through your comments and seeing the nuance that astarion as a character deserves and rarely gets. Even with people who I’ve seen trying to romance him a lot of the comments are either babying him or just calling him irredeemable when he’s neither. His story is incredibly raw and depending on how you play it out, potentially incredibly empowering to severely traumatized people. It’s refreshing to see a comment section where people don’t brush off his bad actions but also recognize how important stories like his can be. I’ve loved seeing how you interact with all of the characters and have adored the community you’ve fostered around this game and will definitely have to binge a few of your other series!! If I hadn’t already subscribed I definitely would by now. My favorite part about this game is how hard it pushes that every person is just a person and your pre-conceived notions about the parts that make them up (such as them being gith, or a vamp spawn, or even an illithid like Omeluum) tells you nothing about them as a person.
On a side note: a lot of people hate that cazador doesn’t “look intimidating” but honestly I think he looks very much his part. He may not be the stereotypical sadistic abuser you see in media but I actually really appreciate that. Anyone you meet could be an abusive POS. It really highlights that emotional/psychological abuse is also abuse.

But ...since this morning, my playthrough is finished. This weekend i will try to update my agme, with hopefully no problems. Wish me luck ^^
That sounds dope! I assume you haven't gotten to the epilogue part since it wasn't updated?
@@CuriouslyKay Yeah, i haven’t seen the new epilogue yet
@@MoonsongReverb I’m excited to see how it turns out for you, an epilogue feels like just the thing this game needed
@@CuriouslyKay Yeah, I always made up my own so far. But i hope to see soon what they came up with
Youre reactions to everyone wanting to have sex with you are fucking relatable: "UÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄH" Nearly throwing myself of the chair. :D I enjoy your lets plays and i became a fan!
I respect the choice, I mostly wanted to see what would happen if you let Astarion go through with the ritual, but it's your play through.
I am interested in that too, might do some kind of reaction in the future since idk if I can get myself to make that decision lol
And if I can be completely honest, your decision is not far from the best. At least, mine cost me my Paladin's Oath been broken.
Oh damn, what oath was broken? I was thinking of playing a paladin for my durge run but the oath part seems stressful
@@CuriouslyKay mine was Oath of the Ancients.
@@Sonyuu can’t even lie, breaking your oath on this choice is kinda cool though. Like that’s some tv show shit
@@Sonyuu oh weird! Mine is Vengeance and I was scared letting the spawn go would break my oath. It didn't, but it would have been worth it. What a cool thing to break your Oath on!
@@CuriouslyKay Personally I find paladins fun to play, roleplay wise. Like sometimes it's possible to break an oath trying to do the good thing, and then have to ponder whether to go back to the old oath or decide it was too restraining to choose the right choice. Or be tempted by some evil power and forsake the oath. So many ways to create a dramatic story.
