Down by the River (and another one which is The Power) is tied to the game's original story before the developers changed it to what we have now. The original story was supposed to have a manifestation of the parasite that you carry from the start of the story communicate with you and tried to get you to let go and be with them down by the river (hence the song name). The song being so whimsy and peaceful is representative of the temptation to just give up and give in to the parasite's call and the ending to the song being really ominous is signifying the possible bad ending to that story where you truly let go and be forever lost.
Down By The RIver is practically a core tune, it is present in many pieces, in different forms but always there. Very nice detail. All of music in this game is great, not to mention the game itself. More then that. Definitely recommend to play it.
I'm surprised nobody (to my knowledge) has recommended the Dragon Age games. Some stand out pieces in Inquisition off the top of my head are Main Theme, In Hushed Whispers, The Dawn Will Come and Lost Elf. In Veilguard I think the Main Theme and Atonement Extended Version are phenomenal!
Gods I love this game. The main theme alone could bring me to tears just from remembering my first time playing. That’s so rare for a game to do that for me.
IIRC Down by the River was originally chronicling the descent into the safe peaceful dream delusions of a mind being transformed into nothingness as the soul evaporated. At least was the original intent during the pre release. Its meaning changed a bit as the game developed. But originally the tension of whether to accept dream visions has a sinister intent/feel.
Harpy song is one of a kind for a single enemy early game, and the reason it mellows down and the vocals end because well, you kill those harpies :) And Nightsong might be the most iconic moment in the game (for me at least)!
Borislav Slavov so deserved the award for the music in this game. The entire OST is just brilliant. ❤ He also composed the soundtrack of Divinity: Original Sin 2, another Larian game and that soundtrack is also excellent.

I want to thank you, your reaction made me listening this soundtrack like it was the first time (wich is funny because i have 924 hours on that game 😅😂
Great game, great OST, I bought it on day one and I still play it 👌🏻
Last game release of which I still listen the soundtrack stand alone because it's so good.
First time in the game when Harpy Song was played I did nothing but listen the song for ~15min.
Main Theme is prayer to Bhaal.
Also Divinity Original Sin 2 is also good soundtrack to listen. It's composed by the same guy as Baldur's Gate 3.
it's hard to do the harpy fight with that beautiful song playing in the background 😥
Every track in this game is a masterpiece 🙏🏻 you should defo listen to The power and and I want to live next time, both stellar tracks with amazing vocals, you’ll love em 💖✨
It's an incredible game, i have never suggested People to play a game like i did for BG3 and i didn't eben finish it yet.
I absolutely love it 😊
Part 2 and 3 of the main theme are even better!
Please more Baldur's Gate 3! It's a shame it didn't win best OST at the game awards, the soundtrack is amazing! I highly recommend listening to parts 2 and 3 of the main theme as well, all the parts of the main theme correspond to each act of the game so well.
Harpy song is actually creepy. If you know the lore behind it
I believe you never hear this rendition of Down By The River in-game any more. It was in the beta but the game had a rewrite and it's storyline got removed. The leitmotif is still all over the game though. EDIT: Okay apparently still on the character creation screen if you stay long enough
Baldurs Gate 3 , one of a hell videogame 👌✨ perfection , i loved The work of Borislav Slavov since Divinity original sin I , He is one of my favorite compossers of all time . I want him for The next Fable or Danny Elfman 🙏
Definitely check out "Song of Balduran" as well
I've got a suggestion for you! Tomb Raider 2013 has an amazing ost. Particularly "A Survivor is born".
BG3 is one of the best games made in a LONG time.
Twisted force sounds like Duegar (Underdark dwarves) song
You should also listen to "I Want to Live", it also has very beautiful vocals and music😊
"Sorry i ruined it" she said as I hit the Subscribe button.
And the punchline? "Raphael's final act" is OPTIONAL. You can just beat this game and never hear it. Every playthough can have a bunch of cool stuff completely absent from the others!
And Raphael thinks he's the final boss.
Completely mesmerized by Nightsong. Just like the rest of us. 😂
The Harpy song doesn't have any vocals because it's literally sung by some harpys at the beach to lure humans and eat them😂
