@@beelzebuzz1713 I don't think its overrated but the boss fight took forever for me to beat and the amount of times it replays makes it a bit annoying after a while lol
"This sounds like 'Down by the River'" That's deliberate. A lot of the songs have the same foundational melody, it's in context to the original story of the game. It's not in it anymore, but the parasite in your brain used to commune with you "down by the river" in your dreams.
For the final act track, I'll paint a brief picture. Imagine fighting an extremely egotistical devil in his own house in hell, and he's singing his own theme song while fighting you. Yup.
One of the funniest parts for Raphael's Final Act is you can cast a spell that silences him. Normally that's gameplay related to stop people from using spells but for him it literally cuts his lines from the song lol
My best friend is a Larian scripter and he swears they didn’t code that. Like its not supposed to happen. It happened in my run too though! And multiple others have noticed it. It’s either an awesome coincidence or the game is gaining sentience. Which frankly would not at all surprise me.
@@marszenka I think it's just a mythos people have been repeating without having experienced it themselves. I saw at least one video testing that and it didn't happen. It would've been really cool if it was a thing though.

Raphael is a devil with a REALLY big dramatic flair that essentially makes him a disney villain. His voice actor isn't a devoted singer, and if I'm not mistaken this is his first time singing like this.
He teamed up when he won an award for the performance of the song, and you could really tell that he was so surprised and grateful to be recognized for something that he didn’t believe he was talented in before!
Twisted Force plays frequently in combat throughout the game, but you hear it right off the bat in the final battle OF THE TUTORIAL. You hear that banger in the tutorial and you go "Oh, OH. This is how this game is gonna be."
Nightsong is one of my favorite songs from the entire game, not just because of how BEAUTIFUL it sounds, but also because the scene where it plays is incredibly moving and inspirational and it literally made me cry the first time I ever played
Down by the River plays when you're having romantic moments too, and it's absolutely perfect. Raphael's Final Act was also the first time Andrew Wincott has ever sung for something.
Down by the River is such a clever piece of music; it plays during character creation and it manages to be both beautiful and slightly unsettling at the same time, which is fascinating to me. Also the vocalist is Mariya Anastasova and she has her own RUclips channel!
You HAVE to play this! Hands down, the best game of the century. Music is amazing, writing/story is Oscar worthy and combat is simplistic but engaging.
@@isaacheard4202 Also Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Helldivers 2, Black Myth Wukong, Zelda BotW and TotK. Despite what many have claimed, these have been some of the best years of gaming. It's only the established AAA gaming market that's dying, primarily due to blood loss from repeatedly shooting themselves in the foot.
Another song that you should check out from the BG3 soundtrack is "I Want To Live." There's a piano version, a classical version, and the original version with vocals (the newer upload has a minor fix to the lyrics in the 3rd line of the first verse). I think you would love all 3 versions!
I told a character to decide for themself. Experiencing that scene the first time, I shouted and got up from my chair. I was so animated about it, I ended up laughing at my own reaction.
As I arrived in the game the section the very first time where the Harpies sang for getting a boy into their mind controlI (he supposed to be to become their dinner, and I have to save him) I stopped playing for at least 15 minutes but just listened to their haunting song - I guess the harpies got me as well in that moment.
IIRC Down by the River was originally chronicling the descent into the safe peaceful dream delusions of a mind being transformed into nothingness as the soul evaporated. At least was the original intent during the pre release. Its meaning changed a bit as the game developed. But originally the tension of whether to accept dream visions has a sinister intent/feel.
I’m not a musician myself, but for some reason I really adore watching reactions to BG3 OST. The OST itself is forever in my playlist. Your reaction is amazing, thank you!!
Down By The RIver is practically a core tune, it is present in many pieces, in different forms but always there. Very nice detail. All of music in this game is great, not to mention the game itself. More then that. Definitely recommend to play it.
Steam says i have 70 hours in Baldur's Gate 3, and i'm willing to bet that at least one third of that time was spent in the character creation menu just listening to Down By The River while it played on repeat.
1:16 ALL I HEAR IS SOURCE OF MY JOY I'M ALL OVER IN TEARS AGAIN And I forever will be! I will never heal from this! There will never be anything to replace my Joy! Speak to me! You are the ground beneath me and the skies above. YOU ARE! AND SO: WE ARE!
Down by the River (and another one which is The Power) is tied to the game's original story before the developers changed it to what we have now. The original story was supposed to have a manifestation of the parasite that you carry from the start of the story communicate with you and tried to get you to let go and be with them down by the river (hence the song name). The song being so whimsy and peaceful is representative of the temptation to just give up and give in to the parasite's call and the ending to the song being really ominous is signifying the possible bad ending to that story where you truly let go and be forever lost.
Vocalized “I want to live” hits in the feels after you really finish the game. “Raphael’s…” is great too but it needs context from the story to really appreciate it. I love these BG3 and FF14 music reaction videos. We enjoy all together
If you're looking for something similar to see the harpy song and nightsong, you'd love The Power (Choral Version) - the mood is kind of like mermaid funeral without spoiling anything

I absolutely think you would love the game it was game of the year for plenty of reasons and the white haired character won best voice actor too and was a great character to have in your party. Down by the river definitely my favorite personally and a streamer I watch called Nerissa ravencroft did a cover of it with the actual composer Boris slavov I think was his name doing the instrumental by the way this one is literally just the character creation music. From a musical perspective Raphael's final act is pretty peak but during this battle his character is literally singing it and if you were to kill him first his lines actually stop being sung and his lips and face are animated to the song.
One thing about Raphael's Final Act, without spoiling anything about the game, when it comes on you are fighting one absolute hardcore boss, it's perfect
I believe you never hear this rendition of Down By The River in-game any more. It was in the beta but the game had a rewrite and it's storyline got removed. The leitmotif is still all over the game though. EDIT: Okay apparently still on the character creation screen if you stay long enough
