Now that I’ve recovered from laughing… Thanks for spotlighting the Oakleaf Hydrangeas. I’ve always shied away from them because the blooms aren’t as “full” as a typical hydrangea, but I didn’t know their leaves change colors in the fall. That would make a nice change in the garden.
That’s something I love about your channel. You introduce us to different plants & varieties we might not otherwise see as an option for the garden. 🌻

Fond childhood memory - my sister and I would pluck the "snowballs" from our great-grandparents' bushes, stand on their little bridge over the creek, toss the snowballs up creek, run to the other side and watch them pass under the bridge and continue floating downstream. Cheap entertainment for a child, but wonderful memories. Your gardens and entire property are spectacular. :)

Oakleaf Hydrangeas are TOUGH! I bought one last Fall to plant, but COVID hit and my household was hit hard. Needless to say, it didn't get planted and sat tucked in with a couple of Annabelles waiting to be planted in Spring. They were forgotten all Winter! My husband swore they were dead, my response was to have faith. A week after planting, they bagan to show some growth. They have All bloomed beautifully throughout the Summer. I know your new additions will perform beautifully for you!

Is it just me, or do others take 30 minutes deciding where to plant something and then 10 more minutes spinning the plant around trying to get its “best” side lol! Laura makes a decision and plops it in the hole-I need her confidence. Oakleaf hydrangeas are beautiful-can’t wait to see them fill in. 😊

This is my very favorite video format on your channel. Education in the beginning, tour at the end, and that very lovely time in the middle where we get to listen to some relaxing music and watch Laura (and “clone Laura!”) do her thing. It’s honestly my favorite way to start the day, especially on a Monday. We are *finally* getting some desperately needed rain in Kansas City, so I’m happily staying indoors and letting Mother Nature nurture my garden today. Thank you for sharing your lovely garden with us. I look forward to seeing those shrubs grow and fill in!

Oh, Laura, that south garden is getting so full and lush. It’s come so far in such a short time. I realize you could not have done this much without your RUclips income, but you have given those of us who have to approach a project like this on a much slower schedule so much valuable information…..resilient low maintenance perennials and bushes, a few small shrubs, and maybe budget for one larger tree or spruce every year. For those of us who love the challenge of saving those beat up half dead looking clearance plants, the possibilities are endless…and who doesn’t love a bargain?
Perhaps a winter project could be going through aerial footage of the empty space when you purchased it and the progression over the first year, and 2nd year, and 3rd year, etc. definitely too time consuming to attempt during the growing season, but perhaps something that could be done in January or February. Then once you get it altogether you would only have to work on one growing season every winter to have a video diary of sorts. I think we would all like to see that, and it would be invaluable to your family in the future. Imagine your grandchildren or great-grandchildren looking back at the empty space where you created what will be a park like paradise by then. 🥰🦋

Everything is so beautiful. I have been expanding alot this year. We just bought a little piece of property with a creek going through, so I made a beautiful water slash shade garden and had some big boulders delivered. Now it is getting fully developed on an ance of property with hidden trails. Another big area of another part of our land I did like you did years ago, I planted everything in full sun then the trees grew creating shade so I had to transplant thousands of plants and shrubs. It took me about 2 seasons to move them to another sunny location with no trees, well just a few that grow about 15 ft. I'm glad that done now. I am retiring next year and now I can sit back and relax in all my 20 acres of gardens. Happy gardening everyone.

Things are looking fabulous! Just a suggestion: since spruces seem to do well for you, some of the smaller ones make wonderful blue accents in the landscape, for example Montgomery or globosa. I absolutely love them for that pop of blue that anchors a perennial bed. My Montgomerys only get around 5' tall after many years, and are generally wider that they are tall.

Danielle - I know what you mean. I'm in South Africa and can only drool over the plants that Laura has in her garden. But at least we get to share in her wonderful garden!

The beauty of gardening is every region and country offers so many different flowering plants that no matter where you live, we all wish we could grow plants not available in our zones. This is why classes and groups like this is so enjoyable so we can see and appreciate all the beauty gardeners so love sharing. I know I dream of growing exotic plants I see online not able to grow here in North Carolina, but do wish I could share my many of these cool hydrangeas to you all if I could. Loving this site and flower loving growers worldwide, a hobby and love that has no borders.

@@cherylpeacock7298 yes its funny when you come across something laura has planted but its called something else. I wish we could get all the supertunias. Sometimes my garden centre will get in bubblegum but thats all and its $15 a plant! Otherwise proven winners doesnt really exist down here.

Great video! Laura, I'm so curious about your process when you film and plant solo? How do you decide where to put the camera and doesn't it take you twice as long?
I realize that I enjoy watching your channel more than others precisely because of all the camera angles and great editing - in addition to the stellar content!
Can't believe how much the "new" space has filled in! Thanks for all you do!
Looking forward to being at your Q&A on Mackinac Island! #bucketlist
