I find it really strange that most people seem to dislike the editing part. The editing is actually the easiest for me and I find that the actual writing and creating of a (fiction) book is what kills me!

Same here! I love editing but drafting chokes the life out of me, so I try to get it done fast to edit as soon as possible.

Yeah as I was listening to this, I was thinking that there are all different types of people; some people love tedium. I've seen people who can joyfully sort small objects into trays and containers. Nearly all of the females I know love cleaning. The act of cleaning actually brings them joy. My childhood friend loves watching TV. My sister loves driving. I hate driving and watching TV, but I've spent thousands of hours reading circuit diagrams (for my electronics hobby). I don't know anyone else who enjoys studying circuit diagrams. The point is, nothing is inherently boring. We cannot universally declare any activity as being "boring," because each person has a slightly different calibration.

I always compare writing a book with learning ballet. Tough, painful, overwhelming, boring at time, physically and mentally exhausting but leading to absolute beauty. Thank you ladies for this episode!

She drew in a sharp breath of unfeigned delight at the sudden pop-up on her screen. Making quick use of the mouse, she attacked the notification before it had a chance to escape. Should her day have any redeeming quality, this was sure to be it. Episode 39 💛

Try: She drew in a breath of delight at the pop-up on her screen. She attacked it before it had a chance to escape. This was sure to be a day of redemption.

You use to many adj and adv.
Second and third lines are passive sentences. One may be okay, but two in a row endows both ideas with a blandness because their rhythms are similar. As a rule, try never to write passive sentences.

I liked this video a lot! Just yesterday I pushed myself to get up very early and I wrote 500 words. Then I had all these thoughts about giving up for good and I was laying in bed feeling so sad. Then suddenly I got up, I made my bed, changed my clothes and started my day with a new energy, with this feeling that I had actually done what I had to do. It didn't matter that those were not good words. All that mattered somehow was that I had written them. I felt... So strong. So much freer.
And everything you guys said made sense, thank you! Writing is not always exciting, not always pleasent or fulfilling as it was in the begining. But it still makes sense to me, it's still my calling. It's more painful not to write than to write.

Ooh, Abbie plays piano? That's awesome! Also I totally relate to feeling like you're annoying your parents, lol. Especially because the song I'm learning currently has the right hand doing interesting stuff, but then I have to separately practice the left hand which is really obnoxious and repetitive by itself. XDD

So good! Literally one of the most important lessons I learned from high-school was perseverance - for me it was committing to my school band until graduation. Although it got super monotonous (5 years of school band is a lot when you're not even all that serious about it!) and there were many days when I questioned why I was doing this thing after school in upper years. But at the end of it all, when I finally graduated, I felt so satisfied to have DONE IT and it dawned on me that if you persevere in something (anything!), and stick to it until the end there is always a reward for you, even if it was just the memory of completing something or the experience you gained! Like, yes, I can do it! Anyway, thank you for another great podcast! Very encouraging ladies.

I would say that if something once fun becomes a struggle, you're likely challenging yourself. You can have fun while taking something seriously, but if it gets frustrating or tedious, that means you're working hard to develop a skill you haven't mastered.

Started writing a book yesterday after meditating on several screenplay ideas for six months in a treatment facility. These are all extremely personal, violent trauma stories and it was just yesterday when some sort of creative burst of energy struck me when I found a unique twist on structure. What I struggle with though, is not so much the substance, editing or boredom. More so I get these large bursts of manic energy where it feels like magic is shooting out of my fingers. I write music, poetry and stories and a strong love of it has formed in the past year of being locked up. However large amounts of my time is spent dealing with finances for my family or coping with mental stuff. How do y’all effectively meditate on your writing when the real life stuff overwhelms your ability to create?

I once heard someone say, If you had 200,000 dollers and you lost 100, you wouldn't throw the other 199,900 away. This can be applied to writing, if you have 200,000 words and you mess up one page, you wouldn't just throw the rest away. Thank you guys so much.

the talk about tedium is a great point, and something i need to really think about because it means that i'm trying to hone something that no longer needs honing, which means i need to T R U L Y focus on the next part, the thing i'm not that good at yet. which is the thing i complain about CONSTANTLY (blocking, verbal phrases, etc..... basically the words and sentences that move characters along in a scene).
the thing that keeps me from making more progress, i think, is thinking too hard, thinking too fatalistically, about that part. i just need to get the story down in the way that makes sense for me--with all of the things that ARE my strength. THEN put on the rest of the clothes, so to speak. :)

If it isn't tedious, you're not working, you're getting high. Or maybe it's better to say, tedious work fuels flow states? Divorcing their relationship isn't sustainable creativity.
