    My goal: finally write a full length book

    Well, last year I did finish my FIRST DRAFT (which I'm still kinda surprised about). But now, I'm editing my book, and I'm in the 4th pass, implementing my own notes from reading and reviewing. And I'm sending my first 5 chapters to beta readers which is NUTS. But, I really want to finalize my book this year in 2021, and start querying.... which is so daunting. But I have to do this because, I love my story so much, and I want to share it with the world!

    Your videos and podcasts are the sole reason I am currently 50k words into my first novel after six months of work. The reason I was able to take my super ambiguous and simple idea, that was just an image, into a full fledged story with complex and conflicted characters, and something with actual story structure. I know my first draft sucks. The prose and dialogue are probably cringeworthy and there is so much editing I'm gonna have to do in later drafts. But I am writing my story. After having this idea float around my brain without direction for like eight years. And I am loving the process so much. I have never enjoyed anything as much. I write every day and I my goal is to finish this book in 2021. And it's all thanks to you two! Keep up the good work, you are changing lives. 💕

    In addition to my positive affirmations I am starting a special writing journal to info dump and quiet my mind of anything that is distracting. I am continuing my short stories to have some fun and grow myself as a writer before I tackle my bigger projects.

    Thank you ladies! You've really helped inspire me with attainable goals. In each of my seasons, I have a different draft/beta read pass goal. My ultimate goal is by the end of the year to be ready to send my manuscript to a professional editor.

    My goal is to finish the first draft of a second book, doing so with intention every page and step of the way. This year, I’m really leaning into the lifestyle approach you guys mentioned! I’m a new fiction writer, so while I want to have a second book under my belt, I’m trying to establish systems as opposed to hard stop goals. The rigidity of too many goals can really overwhelm me! I can be so so hard on myself. So I’m switching my thinking to “systems.” So many words or hours per week. Establishing habits and daily practices!

    At the end of 2020, I sat down with myself and realized that I want to indie publish my books (still have to write them of course but I am an ambitious person lol). But I also realized that I am a 19-year-old student and that I wouldn't be able to afford that in the near future. That's when I listened to the "advice for teen writers" podcast and it helped me so much with organizing my thoughts and making my goals smaller and accomplishable! I decided I'll start saving money to self-publish in the future and until then I'll keep my writing for myself (and maybe I will upload them to Wattpad!) Thank you so much Kate & Abbie for believing in every single one of us!

    Thank you for the inspirational content, as always, Kate and Abbie :) I totally relate about the Pinterest boards. I was hardcore on Pinterest back in 2014-ish, then took a break, but recently started making boards about my WIP's and it definitely is helping me get inspired to write.

    Holy Herbs! you two did very well with this episode! just as valued packed as the others and I'm glad that more people are watching this amazing podcast and are joining the community! hope you two do well in the new year!!
    I personally find myself trying to juggle my youtube channel and my story. And whenever I focus too much on one of them, I find myself burning out and going back to the other one after waaaayyy too long procrastinating lol.
    What I find works best (for me at this time) when juggling two things is checkpoints. work on one project until you get to a certain point, then stop and work on the other. I find it helps to get more work done and prevent burnout if the two projects are different. I find that my brain likes short bursts of one activity before switching and becoming obsessed with the other. but I don't know that is just me.
    P.S. thank you Abbie for making that "plan for 2021" video!! it helped me so much with my own planning (along with ikigai, which is a Japanese method to find your passion and I loved combining both methods :) ) I ended up becoming a little too inspired and made an entire youtube video on how to plan for 2021 heavily inspired by abbie's video. lol. (I ended up giving myself and my family an existential crisis so there is that too...)
    thank you both again for making this wonderful video and hope you two have a great 2021!!!

    I have never finished a book before. Like even written the whole first draft of a book. So that is a goal of mine. I’m already 50.000 words into what I think will be 80.000-90.000 word draft and making my way through the second act but I’m really hopeful that I going to finish this! I’m not setting any more goals than that since this goal is a first for me. When I finish it tho, then I’ll start planning out the editing goals🥰

    Replotting my books. I have learned from all the craft books I was able to acquire and read last year that some of my parts are not bad, but they are on the wrong part of a story curve, for example, my start of fun and games is way too early dragging the middle on for too long, so I have to expand the beginning some, but anyway, my goal for Q1 is to plot out my books cleanly, q2 I can write deeply knowing I have a clear roadmap.

    Honestly I just need to see if anyone else has this problem lmao. I have ADHD and get intimidated by big projects, like writing a book for example, and i can't focus unless I'm 100% invested. I wrote 20,000 words of a novel three years ago, only to scrap it and write 30,000 words of a rewrite which I want to scrap again. I also get SO MANY 'skeleton' ideas which I can't bring myself to develop and it's absolute hell because I really want to be able to write and can't. Out of desperation, does anyone have any advice on writing with ADHD or similar disorders?

    • @meriem9726
      @meriem9726 3 года назад

      @@nuttypurrfessor thank you, keeping a list of the skeleton ideas sounds like a good idea and i'll definitely try that. as for nanowrimo, i've tried and failed twice because i tend to lose interest so now I'm sort of just writing when I'm inspired to do so without such restrictive goals. thank you so much for your help :)

    Do you have any tips for picking up a story that's beyond disastrous because you wrote it when you were 9 and you didn't know what you were doing and the whole thing needs to be scrapped, but the general idea you originally had is still cool and you still want to write the book? Wow, that was all one sentence. XDDD
