Love the way those Kohler opposed engines sound while under a heavy load. John Deere 317 we have is in much better shape. Hate to see that Kt17 burning oil. Are you going to rebuild it?
If that’s a series 1 if it involves engine work run it till it blows. When it blows get a 18hp magnum for it. There’s room to change the oil filter with engine installed.
Those release the drive inside the hydro so you can slowly push or pull the tractor. It sort of puts the transmission in "neutral". The big black knob on top is what you use to dial it down to allow push/pull. Under normal operation you will not use it.
Hey mike could you tell me what year my C317J 124918 M these are the numbers on tag below steering wheel Engine is KT17QS 241330 is this series one engine or series two haven’t got it in possession yet tks
Ok Tks for reply I’m going to pick it up in a couple weeks been setting for a while under a cover it’s all there including a deck going to be a project for sure may call on you for parts during this project
Howdy Mike! I started up my 314 this morning and belched out a bunch of white smoke upon startup what is this a sign of? ( also smelled like burnt oil. ) I’m assuming it’s f’ed.
"I save tractors" guy has a kit with rods so cheap you should just rebuild it. Those Kohlers last for ever with oil changes. You could always just re-ring it and valve lap.
Just not a KT17 that will 100% blow up. I just got a KT17 and it’s junk. Runs but smokes like a freight train. Gonna run it till it blows. I have the governor maxed out so we’ll see how long it lasts. The land it’s on has several steep 45 degree hills so if I went up 1 hill that is almost vertical it would blow the motor.
@@mikestarcher Idk that kt seems well on way to death.. The magnum 18 is literally the same engine just a full pressure oil system. The kt17qs were known to be kinda shit.
Like that john deere green keep it going
Thanks mine are now working lots of penetrating oil still no luck. Fortunately, I was able to find a used set cheap Now it it only had brakes 😂

Is PTO switch "on"? That kills spark

Oh engine number is 241330
@razortractor4009 I unfortunately don't have much in the way of 317 parts. Also haven't found a engine number breakdown yet

White smoke is probably just cold and worn out and clapped. If it was burning oil it should be blue smoke
After it's smoked show did it run okay?
It has a slight tick I think it’s knocking but I don’t know. and it when you raised the throttle it would hesitate.@@mikestarcher
I might have to get a rebuild kit, but they are expensive.
@@ThatMowerMan u check the oil

Find a Magnum to put in it. 🤙
I would rather keep the factor engine. I don't repower anything.
