what the best gear to used plowing snow with 54" plow blade on it high or low range
@johnstratton5637 low for working generally, but if it's light snow or not real deep and not uphill u could use high some
A lot of your machines have ag tires. Did they come that way or did you replACE THEM?
EWell done. Thanks for the tip on the Deestones. I don;t know how a tire can look so good and be so rotten but they are. I have set of Calisle Trupowers on an old Craftsman lawn tractor use to haul deadwood to a burn pit and they have been great for 20 years.
That's what i need if im gonna put a snowthrower on mine. I will settle for a snow blade. Liked & subscribed.
Cool.
I just found a complete Tractor with No attachments this past weekend. The 1973 814 with Hydraulic lift, Came with the Original invoice from 1973, Illustrated parts, Owner's & Operating Manuals too. Kept in a garden for 52 years. It was running up til about 3 years ago when the previous owner bought a newer zeroturn mower. I guess he sold the mowing deck a while back but that's ok i am gonna find a snow blade for it. These are So Cool ! Listen to that thing purr.... ❤
I just Reacued a 1973 Gravely 814. I can hardly wait to hear it do this. It came with the original invoice, Illustrated Parts, Owner's & Operating Manuals. I am the 3rd Owner of this 900 lb. "Tank". It will be part of the snow removal "fleet" here. I Love these Old Machines!
Real smart not wearing shoes. 🙄🙄🙄
i havnt had any snow blower with an air filter so maybe its not brigs thats a moron look in mirror lol
Hi Mike my name is James I am looking for a 3 speed transmission for a 1964 110 round fender john deere
@@JamesAtkins-yc7pf I don't have any 3 speeds, I don't mess with round fenders anymore
It always a nice feeling to take something not working and make it work good job 👍
I bought a 445 and somebody had switched the tires. They are 23x10.5-12 & 16x6.50-8. I believe they should be 26x12.00-12 & 18x8.50-8. Do you think my rims will fit on new tires of the correct size properly?
@SF-fm7ov it'll depend if they switched the rims also. the larger tires will fit on the smaller rims but then they're even worse than the smaller tires because they're on the wrong size rim
If that’s a series 1 if it involves engine work run it till it blows. When it blows get a 18hp magnum for it. There’s room to change the oil filter with engine installed.
The cab makes a big difference in how long you can stay in the cold.
@HaroldWilliams-x1s ya it does
@@mikestarcher do you think an 18.5hp B&S Murray hydro could pull a single bottom moldboard. BTW love the collection. Hope I can get a collection like yours.
@CashCustoms that depends is it a heavy duty garden tractor or is it a lawn mower? If it's just a lawn mower it probably will not pull up and even if it will you'll tear things up.
@ I think it’s just a lawnmower. Thanks.
Wish I could find a blade for my JD111 mower.
Gorgeous collection.
I just plowed with my 318 with cab yesterday in lower Michigan for the first time. 1/11/2025
Will a cab from the 318 fit a jd 200 series?
@@briankelley6185 it should with some mods
I've always used chains on the rear tires.
@@dew6874 I always use chains also but this has bigger tires and they won't clear without lifting the platform
I watched the video again, I see that now. Maybe swap out with standard turf tire/ with chain. Like back when folks put snow tires on their cars! There's my amateur tip of the day😁! Enjoy playing in the snow,we haven't had any in a long time!(Yes, I'm in Ohio)
@dew6874 ya, I've just been playing in it so far, been useing the patio 112 and backblade lately
She definitely gets it done. 😊
Did you sell this beast?
@@kevincris0615 yup, it's gone
What a coincidence - it's my two cluster gears that need replacing and I can't find replacements anywhere!
@@trinitytoo ya. I haven't seen a lot of these 2300s that need gears tho
@@mikestarcher Jamming it into gear (as it was racing down a steepish hill pulling a load of gravel when it popped out of gear) mangled the transaxle but saved me from jumping off and hurting myself. Worth it.
No breaks? I hate it when they pop out of gear
@@mikestarcher Brake band wasn't strong enough to do anything. Originally the tractor (Bolens 1600) was popping out of gear going downhill. Repair shop took trany apart and said nothing wrong for $700 Can. Took it to a second place who looked at the tractor and said nothing wrong as they were patting me on my head although they admitted they hadn't tried it on a hill. Latest place (years later) (after the runaway) did reluctantly take it apart, found a whole bunch of gears needed replacing. I found a source for most of the gears, but not the two cluster gears. I imagine it was just a problem with the shifters. No-one up here will touch such an old tractor so I am learning as fast as I can. With your video I think I'll take the trany apart and see for myself. I did just buy a trany from a nice guy in Michigan that I hope I can figure how to install. I hope this long comment helps your channel!
@trinitytoo well good luck, hopefully you can get it fixed up
Beautiful collection of lawn mowers. I’m a bit jealous !
Is the 120 still for sale
@johndeerefarming1606 yup
How much do you want for that
@johndeerefarming1606 650 obo
Once again nice video Mike I really enjoy watching your videos. 😊
I'm just now watching this video 3 years later but very interesting indeed.
I really do want a good project tractor to restore. Hit me back if anyone knows have a good deal somewhere, please. I live in North Carolina, so I am sure it will need to be shipped.
@@GeorgeBonez I have a 120 that would be a good restoration project I would sell.
@ Well I should have also mentioned that I want something with hydraulics that would operate a front loader at some point. Sorry that was a big detail for me to leave out. 😬 What year is the 120?
@@GeorgeBonez 1970, if you get a correct loader for these the tractor does not have to have hydraulics the loader will have a separate pump that runs off the pto.
Just my luck that this video is two years old. I would love to make an offer on the 69 112 but it’s likely been sold 3 or 4 times since this video was uploaded. I NEVER FIND GOOD DEALS! NOT EVER!
how do you attach the lift rod underneath?
@rickclamp592 the front one? Also what year tractor, there's a couple different ones

@@mountainman5025 it's running rough because of the head gasket
Sir you don’t need tire chains then you have weights
JD may have shipped that with a K321. Wouldn’t surprise me at all.
@OSXMan I don't think they did that because if you put a 14 horse in a 120 it's just a 140 h1
@@mikestarcher I know, but they did do weird things like that. Some 316s had 18HP engines. I could be wrong, but I'm almost certain. Also, the 120 is an oddball already. It's not as bad as automobiles, but the idea is the same. Maybe you have a surplus of the more common 14HP engines and are running low on 12 HP engines. You slap the 14s in right? Good talking with you.
@OSXMan anything is possible I guess, I've had two 1970 120s with 14 horse Kohler tho. I'm 100% sure the other one I have was switched though
I used to rebuild lots of those. Good tough product back then as compaired to plastic today
@GeneBonjour ya they are great little machines
I'd be temped to swap out for the guard style setup vs the blade on blade like you have. Need to take the thing apart and sharpen the blades to make it work 100% as is should.... and replace the broken one lol
@@FullMetalFab I was going to rebuild one of these sickle bars but I don't know if I'm going to or not
Nice job thanks for taking me along👍🏻I hit the sub and 🔔looking forward to see more videos from you
I just ran across your video which you did a pretty good job with. I have for a very long time argued that the dirty belly screen was the major issue with the shortened life of the Kohler KT17 engine. What you discovered is very typical if the screen is still in place. Most are not. It's also quite rare to see the scrapers on the engine air intake still in place. Deere didn't provide nearly enough paths for cooling air on these machines and once that bottom screen is plugged as yours is, it pretty much chokes off what little air is available. They obviously cured that issue with the following model (318) as it and all others that followed are virtually riddles with holes in the tower area and side panels. Most of these screens and scrappers have long ago disappeared which then leads to the cylinder cooling fins getting plugged. And those seldom got attention. Once you recognize the need for keeping these areas clean, those KT engines will run as long as the rest of them. Nice job with the video.
I would have lapped the valves and adjusted them.
Still a beautiful old lawn mower!
That deck is for the wide frames 86,108,109, etc all the way to the early ccc supers and I believe also the cyclops
@@Themowermidget thanks
@ anytime. I have no idea how they were able to get it on the 120. They had to really screw around to get it to work😂
@@Themowermidget it looks like the only modification they had to do was weld on the rear mount, it looks like the mule drive just went right on and everything lined up
@ I never had a Deere with a deck so I’ve never seen what the deck system is like. Might be getting a 212 for engine parts for my 149 Cub. The connecting rod grenaded itself
@Themowermidget buy a new one also a 212 will not work for engine parts for that. The Cub 149 is a 14 horse the 212 is a 12 horse. Also if you need a 12-horse connecting rod I have one that's used
