They ONLY Blow Train Horns At This One Crossing, In A NO TRAIN HORN Zone?

- The last RR crossing in this video has always confused me, it's the ONLY one in Iron Mountain, MI they blow the horns across... In a NO TRAIN HORN zone! Every crossing in town has signs, except for this railroad crossing so is this town really a no train horn zone?

Hopefully dinner still went well even with a short delay for the train. Very surprising to only see one car come out of Alter normally it's in the 8 to 10 car range. Good to see the glue arrive and hopefully the fresh logs and the new group of empty Center beams will get the LP cycle back into a normal stage. Had to chuckle about the taxi cab at the Crossing as the number of smaller towns have lost that service
I seem to capture that cab and others a lot. We have 3 companies.
FRED is MIA! ;) LOL
You are spot on, that is an old Woodworth switch stand. There was a siding there long ago... long been pulled up.. The stand was simply just set aside.
It's crazy that after several decades since the former C&NW yard was pulled up, the switch points and stand are still in place (Near Dickinson Homes sign).....
As a young child in lived between the Southern Pacific and the Public Belt Railroad. I enjoy hearing the horns no matter the time.
E&LS should have this motto: It's always good to carry wood.
Trains have been less frequent on the old B&O mainline byy house since ship took out the key bridge, but a good one came through yesterday on Ethenol train with 1973 Chesse leading
Thanks Jason, that was a really good video. Love when the engine blows those super loud horns. Where I live down here in Central North Carolina, I am 1/2 mile from Main 1 North/South Line for CSX RR. When they pass my home, I always hear their horn Salute. We have about 25 to 35 trains per day, Mixed Manifest, tankers, military, IM's and of course all those super fast Amtraks(running upward to 70 mph). If you ever get down here to Central North Carolina, Smithfield/Selma, we need to get together and I will buy your dinner, how does that sound? Have a great week, my friend.
J.nice to see your latest video. Greg. 😊
Thank you for the brief break in posting, I have been running behind in keeping up on the videos! Thanks for sharing this !!! I prefer Short hood forward!!!
You are so welcome!
Sitting in GB watching501&502 doing some switching on the north side in Howard-Suamico
I like the log cars. Would like to see them loading sometime. I think Peshtigo has some stacked up unless they were off loaded. Good content Jason
good train video
They blow the horn here due to the lack of visability of the tracks due to the building's location and that the crossing has the simple crossbucks instead of active crossbuck lights and gates
Great video Jason. Thanks.
501&502 heading north with approximately 50 cars and a green Fred
@ 10:00 you’re sitting on the abandoned siding (seen @ 9:09) roadbed.
Well, hmmmm, i have an empty orange bulkhead flat in HO scale, guess i could cut up some small twigs to load it with, and i have several centerbeams ordered for the finished product. Maybe i should load the bulkhead flat like the ones on ELS, hanging halfway off the top layer?🤔🤣🤣😵😨😱❗
I enjoyed that video👍👍
ELS train with flagg and No freddy thanks Jason !
Nice!
I didn't receive my new member shout out please if so I didn't hear it lol. Love your videos I'm a train fan indeed
The comment that got my attention.. THANKS!
Fred has been kidnapped lmao
Looks like Fred was flagged
I'm wondering if that building at the crossing has something to do with the horn blowing. Coming the other way, the train isn't visible until it's at the crossing, so maybe an exception was made at that crossing for that reason?
Just saw the other comment way down below saying pretty much the same thing.
That crossing only has cross bucks, no signals.
I counted fourteen mty center beam cars.
That did look like an old switch post. You can see the remnants of the track that was removed next to it. Likely a side track for industry at one point. Poor FRED MIA again. And I hate to say but you never seem to guess right on the color. lol
Back towards the direction today’s came from, there’s an abandoned siding going towards the light blue building in the distance. Abandoned switch stand likely controlled that siding.
Sounds like you have a very understanding wife
She likes the money I get off RUclips and Facebook, and Viral Hog.
Have they fixed the tracks where the cars rock
“Hoppers” not “Tankers”, tankers are the black ones cylindrical
Good to see a train Jason - can someone explain to me about the red/green Freddie on the back, being across the 'pond' I haven't come across this before
End of Train Device (EOTD) Or Freddy (known by Conductors as F****ing Rear End Device). FREDS/EOTD took the place of the Caboose, requiring one less employee & reducing the chance of injury due to slack action; in other words, a cost/expense reduction. A Caboose might have detected the issues w/the NS train @ East Palestine, OH.
A ‘Smart Freddy’ can send telemetry information back to the head end crew. Smart Freddy’s also sends out a radio signal that can be picked up on scanners like Jason has, letting him & other railfans of a train in the area.
@@jamessimms415 Thank you James, appreciate you taking the trouble to reply - so now I know about Freddy
Why so few trains?
Where did that spur use to go???
It was not a spur. It was the former Milwaukee Road and Chicago & Northwestern Interchange lead.
Well your wife knows this is what you do for a living too so yea you definitely needed the footage there hasn't been a train in a while about 3 days
Some no horn crossings, have a horn only drivers can hear or those close to the crossing. I prefer Orange or Lemon Jello myself..lol
Lime Jello 🍋🟩
