I would love to see more trains wirh cabooses. Things really changed when tge law requiring them was repealed. When I was a kid, we used to walk to the switchyard and crawl around in the steam engines and tenders. If we were lucky enough, we would run into the caboosemen and get to sit with them with their flat top hats while they were on break or lunch and just chat. That was on the old B&O (Baltimore & Ohio) line up in northeastern Ohio. Once we even got to go way up into the control tower and watch the switchmen pull those long switchlevers to redirect the trains. That was my favorite venture. I haven't seen a switchtower since the '40's. I suspect that they were all tore down by the 50's. Every once in a while, when I see an airport control tower, I get a flashback of a railroad switchtower. Funny how the brain retains certain events for your whole life from earliest childhood to late adulthood.
Thank you for the super chat! I really appreciate your support! That definitely helps pay the gas. I am always looking for cabooses. I also remember them. There are still some switch towers around but I don't know how many are actually still in use. I want to film one. I'm going to try to find one. There is one in Danville, Kentucky, at least I think that's what that building up in the air is. Anyway, thanks for your support and have a great week !
It is early morning here in Oklahoma with rain and storms all over but I'm up with my coffee watching train action from Ohio with a CSX train with a caboose, an Intermodal , DPU's, the great train pets Chessie, Loki, Brandi and Norfie and the slide shows it doesn't get any better than this thanks Jaw Tooth.🇺🇲🤠🇺🇲🇺🇲🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲
Saturday, 27 April 2024, was another good railfanning day in Hamilton, Ohio, Jaw Tooth! You said in your description of this video that the engineer of the local that was running long hood forward was "Pretty cool how the engineer sits in the cab." If I am not mistaken, we were not looking at the engineer but that was the conductor we saw in the window. The person that we see has his left arm on the window ledge, so he is looking at the center-beam flat car behind the engine rather than looking in the direction the train is going. While I was watching this video my 21-month-old Great-grandson came into my room and wanted to sit on my lap to watch the trains. While the last train was passing the road to the Hamilton Water Treatment Plant, I was counting aloud how many tank cars, covered hopper cars etc. that were passing in front of us.
JT - Thanks for the freight action! The dogs are a nice addon, have two myself and they are just about as lazy. My two cats are more active than they are, and cats are known to be lazy! 😃
Nice train race. Long hood forward for maximum runner smashing, grade crossing clearing capabillity. Great bonus with the transfer crummy. More excellent Hamilton action, liked it a lot. Thanks JT!
Cool the NS train that had 8024 leading came through Elwood yesterday on the street run this was NS 123 out of Decatur Illinois on it’s way to Chattanooga Tennessee. Great video Brian.
Wow! Excellent catching all the trains in Hamilton, Ohio, I got to see them too on the same day, in a same place, I got to see the trains in Hamilton as well, I like them, @JawTooth, Brian, thank you very much.
Nice catch on the 2 trains "racing", and YES, the caboose is back! And I love to hear the birds sing, but sometimes the Mocking birds just won't let up. Thanks for another good one, JT.
Always cool to see a caboose at the end of a freight train. Back in the days before FREDs, defect detectors, & dragging equipment detectors, a freight train wasn't complete without a caboose at the end.
Great catch Jawtooth! I saw a CSX in Bowling Green a couple weeks ago with a caboose, it was a short train, not sure but that looks like the same caboose!👍
@@JawToothI can just imagine what those DD's would say if they could cuss when a defect was/is found.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It's not going to be very surprising when AI starts being added to the DD's, ain't no telling what they might say then....😮🤔🤨🤭
Hey jaw tooth cool trains. Lucky catch with local hauling caboose. I miss seeing cabooses on D&H RR. . I remember seeing them in 1970s 80s in richmondville NY. Have a great Sunday and railroad day.🚂🙋♀️
Great live action JT, great for stretching out on the couch TV volume up, a nice beverage (not alcoholic these days, medical reasons) and wife away for a while.
It's Springtime and NASCAR is in full force. The horse racing season is about to get underway and in Cincinnati CSX was bound and determined to catch up to NS which stood for No Skips. It's so rare to see but the CSX caboose does not have a FRED on the coupler and judging by the open door someone must be riding. The huge NS train sure was a drought for boxcars but they are going back with the two frozen food cars for potatoes. Luckily the other train had passed so the other huge NS train can enter the city. Not the biggest count of trains but certainly plenty of freight cars to count
Afternoon JT, WOW my favourite train is first! Then another one comes along & races it! With a caboose, awesome. The mixed manifest was a long one & an open box car, remembering Shoestring. Lovely Mockingbird in the tree, that was nice JT. The end dpu was loud! Ah bless Loki & Chessie & hi Brandie not see her for a while is she doing OK JT? ❤🐕🦮🐕🦺😊👍
Thanks for the pets update JT! I'm happy to see Brandi. She hasn't been out playing in the last few videos. This was another great one today! Many good trains and new perspectives, plus a mockingbird. Be safe this week in all you do, my friend, and I'll chat with you later. 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
The one with the dpu on the back reminds me of the coal and mine trains out here. They usually have two or three locomotives on the front and one or two on the rear. Great video my friend. Take care
Sweet catch with that follow-up/caboose train! It always saddens me a bit to see how people are vandalizing that grey building from the old paper mill complex - breaking windows and such. Stay safe, my friend and Heidi and I will be waiting for your next video! God send sends good luck to good people.

If you have not, you should go out to the Jefferson Proving grounds in Indiana. Madison train has a huge yard full of some normal train cars and a lot of older types. Including old passenger cars and such. You cannot get on them but you can get close enough to look at them without trespassing. Oh and Millikan woods in Hamilton is another good place to see trains going by.

You are correct Thomas, the engineer is always on the right side (short hood forward) because that is the side that the controls are on.
Good morning Mr Tooth. Cool caboose!
