  • Norfolk Southern Railroad Just Feet From Home & Between Buildings In Eaton Ohio! Ethanol Train Crosses Railroad Crossing, Passes Caboose & Splits The Buildings, Station & Historic Structure. 5 Trains With Close Look At Rail Before & After At Railroad Crossing In Town. Rail Manufacturer That I Have Never Heard Of. These Trains Are On The NS New Castle Sub 10 Miles From Indiana, Ohio Border.
Per viewer request I visited Eaton, Ohio on the Norfolk Southern Line that runs between New Castle, Indiana and Cincinnati area in Ohio. Check out this house right next to the railroad crossing. They have a bedroom window only about 15 feet from the main line of a busy railroad. It appears to be a bedroom. It has to be loud when the train blows the horn less than 20 feet from where someone is sleeping. I would love to try it out. It would probably be scary at first but listening to the wheels clacking by would be interesting. I have lived next to the railroad in about 5 different areas in my life. I have lived next to Norfolk Southern in Lexington, Kentucky and the Chessie System in 2 places in Morehead, Kentucky and a couple of places in Loveland, Ohio. I always enjoyed it and have stories to tell about it.
The first train is an ethanol train going between historic railroad buildings and a caboose. This is an eastbound train coming from Indiana to Ohio. The next 3 trains go by the house that sits next to the crossing. I would love to spend a weekend there, would you? Leave a comment.
The last train is one that I just barely got. This is an eastbound intermodal train. It is passing by the foundation of a historic building that was destroyed years ago. That train was booking. Trains use 160.440 here and I recommend using the EOT frequency too.
What do you think of this new location for me to visit? Should I come back soon? Please leave a comment below.

The house I grew up in was way closer to the railroad than that one. In fact the crews started calling it the coffin house because we had a casket on our back porch Later on that name stuck and it was used as a landmark with the railroad. When I moved to Muncie after I got out of the Army All I had to do was tell the railroad guys where I lived and they would treat me as royalty some of the old dispatchers as well. And the 100.000 $ question was why we had a casket on the back porch? My mom and Aunt would have a haunted porch on Halloween every year so we would store it out on the back porch. One of the brakmen asked me about it and I was kidding around and said we ran out of money to bury grandma so we had to save up the money to put her in the ground the look on his face was priceless we laughed about that for years. I really miss those days

When a person drives by a house in a car, people see the best of the house and up keep of the lawn, flowers growing. House has nice paint and sidings.
Depending on the season, you see colorful Christmas Lights 🎄 and/or scary Halloween 🎃 decorations. Some people even place a huge Turkey and Pilgrims 🦃 out front for the swift Thanksgiving season. 🍴🍽🍴
Ride by the same house in a passenger train, and now you are viewing the back of the house. Rusty abandoned vehicles, paint peeling off the house, weed overgrowth, garbage, varmints.
And never any seasonal decorations 😥
And in your case, there is even a coffin 😳

Thyseenkrupp steel (pronounced “Tie-son Krupp”) is German steel company with facilities in Alabama but I believe the Alabama plant is flat steel the rail probably imported from German plant
in Duisburg and Essen. ThyssenKrupp also makes jet bridges (the walkway from airline terminal to the aircraft) and also elevators. Nice spot to watch trains in that Red Mule Inn if they serve food! Hope Norfie and Loki get along with the new kitty!

thanks for not sequeing to the rear of the train as many documenters do.
It’s hypnotic to watch the cars go by, besides the awe of the massive weight supported by the narrow rails.
The castle did have the letters O.N.C. on the front? The squirrel lying there was hilarious.

Started in basically the middle ages with spoons, all the way up to arming Germany in WW2. They produced the Big Bertha, the largest cannon in the world, named after the matriarch Bertha von Krupp. Most of their factories were bombed to bits, some of them with prisoner labor force still inside... I grew up in Kent, Ohio next to the Nickle Plate tracks. In my back yard was a switching yard with 8 rails coming off the main line. The yard made manifests for the Eire and B&O which they connected to. It was the age of steam so 24/7 it was cars banging together as they assembled trains. The water tower was at the end of the yard. It was awsome for a 9 year old boy to watch them take off. The coal drags would usually get the wheels spinning and sometimes sparks. Now it's a memory, NS bought out the NKP and they tore the rails out. Now the W&LE owns the line and they run 2 trains daily hauling scrap to the Timken Steel in Canton from Cleveland. It gave me a love of trains that lasts till this day.

Slept like a baby! Now I live in TN. in the country, and I miss those lullabies.

Good trains today, JT! Mixed freights are one of my favorite types of trains. Most of them today had good varieties of cars and of acceptable lengths. By the way, my comments about the ston̈e building were purely conjecture on my part. I don't know what it is or was. I always have lovedsèr😮

Hey, JT...I've said this before, and it's worth repeating (after watching this video)...your Ohio work is -- by far -- the best. Ohio is "teeming" with excellent railroad ("railfan") locations...living in Athens (Ohio University) for 4 years back in the early 1970's, I discovered this firsthand, as the B&O (back then) ran straight thru the campus...incredible memories. Your visit to Eaton was awesome...love that "Red Mule Inn" at the grade crossing...@5:59 was a perfect screenshot with N&W 8115 right beside it!! Never mind that trackside "bedroom"...how about those porches @ 14:59 and @22:38??? That, my friend, is ideal living...👍👍 BTW...take the "clothes" off that (new) kitten...not cool, not cute. Thank you.

I like picking out unusual reporting marks, especially of short lines. Some short lines have large lease fleets that make them appear bigger than they are. I have seen YKR before, that is the York Railway, which is in Pennsylvania and is a legitimate line. One that I saw in that video that I have not seen before is CIC, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.

Great train action in Eaton Ohio in a very nice area and yeah it would be
noisy living close to the tracks but would also be very exciting and here
in my hometown in Oklahoma I used to live a block from the tracks which
was really nice especially when I was a kid, there is a lot great crossings
and scenery in this area also a lot of very nice houses and buildings there,
as always great to see the amazing live action pets especially the kitten
and the slide show with music, until next time Thank You Jaw Tooth.

The building to the left baron st. Crossing isthe state store sell beer and wine. Years ago when i was kid it was railroad express. My neighbor worked there. He had railroad express sign he gave to me. I still got it the armory next to the red mule bar used to have a tank in front of. They finally got rid of it. Alot of people was not happy so they restored and displayed at fort st. Clair park west of town.

Back in the olden , there was a series of episodes of "I Love Lucy" where they went on a road trip across the country. One night was spent in a motel along the tracks and they slept in bunk beds with the ladies on top (men and women slept in separate beds on tv in those days.) During the night, a couple of trains passed by. The building shook so much the beds migrated around the room with the couples on board. I remember it because it involved trains. Great video, JT. I appreciate your descriptions of the places you visit mostly because I know I'll never get there myself but I'll get to travel with you.

When I graduated HS, My parents house was wedged between 2 houses.. on the opposite side of the house to the north was 3 rails of a railroad crossing. 2 of them ran every 10-15 minutes with the 3rd (Norfolk) only running a train about once every 2 hours... 7X24.. to the south, on the other side of that house was a major 4 lane road with a red light and high volume of truck traffic with the Jake brakes and all. With all that noise all night long.. you get used to it and it becomes background, much like I've heard sirens in downtown NY become.

Great video, As noted, the ONG on the front of the "mystery building" is from when it belonged to the Ohio National Guard. There was a tank outside, that was the focus of a lot of attention during the transition. The "save our tank" movement was successful, and they were able to relocate the tank, and that's a good thing. That's why there is a concrete pad out front.
