    I mean if you have a garden big enough to put a D575 in you're probably not overly fussed about the cost of fuel 😂

  • @MrMan5014
    @MrMan5014 8 месяцев назад +41

    The costs of operations are relative to what the average coal mine produces every day…based on average numbers most coal mines are producing 1000-2000 tons of coal per hour of operation…if the mine requires a dozer as big as the 575 then it’s safe to say they are producing on the higher end of that scale…2000 tons at $95-$100 per short ton that equates to $190k-$200k and hour…that dozer likely runs about $1000/hr in cost of operation with fuel/maintenance/operator so that leaves lots of money at the end of the day for incidentals…and the reason to go bigger is because it costs less per ton of material moved the bigger the machine. They say that this dozer was discontinued but I was talking to a mechanic from Australia and he told me they were still getting new machines in on a regular basis…I would suspect the way they’re doing it is by purchasing the machine in pieces rather than as a whole and considering the machine comes in pieces anyway, it makes it easy to do so!…but even when Komatsu was building them, they only sold 1 for every 20 475’s they built and considering the 575’s are pretty much hand built, it takes a great deal of labour to build a machine they don’t sell much of and them they take away from the production of machines they sell more of so unless these customers are super important to Komatsu they are likely not getting a 575..

      Very few people want the 575, because the Cat D11 is faster and cheaper and uses less fuel and will out work the 575 under most circumstances.
      The 575 is a little bigger, but slower, so the cycle time and material moved per shift on the D11 is better, and with the high track it doesn't wear out as fast.

    You mentioning the garden project. I always thought itd be cool to build a big boy sand box so to speak. If i ever win the lottery 😂. But het a good piece of land with good dirt under it. Buy some mini excavators. Not the super Small ones of course. Get so mini dozers, loaders & dump wagons. And cant leave out the skid steers. Theyd be around others their same size for once. AND HAVE A BLAST IN THE BIG BOYS SAND BOX!😂

    Back in the middle 60s diesel was anywhere from four cents a gallon to 8 cents a gallon, a lot of farmers around here did not want to pay the 4 cents a gallon for diesel so they put their tractors on propane which was 3 cents per gallon. Gasoline was 14 to 16 cents a gallon.

    • @ke6gwf

      The high tracks like the Cats move the drive sprocket up out of the rocks and dirt, so it's not getting all the shock loading supporting the weight of the tractor, the sprocket isn't being worn by continuously crushing sand and rock into it, and the seals last a lot longer etc.

    Umm, if I got one of these for my "garden projects", pretty sure I won't be using it at full power for 15 hours a day. Hell, I'm gonna need to pee every couple hours, so that's time it's not burning so much fuel. And I won't need to run it for 15 hours a day, let alone every day. A full tank would probably last me months, if not over a year. So, stick that up your garden projects

    A CAT 3516 generator can burn about 240 gallons an hour max load… I think that engine might be in some CAT haul trucks. So apparently there’s bigger stuff out there moving material into trucks than the dozer. Makes you wonder if CAT put a 3516 in a dozer how big would that puppy be and what could it move? At some point you would think too big is just moving itself and no material but where is the max capacity? I still think a 3516 would be a big machine I mean really an eight foot square radiator and 100,000 cfm of air to cool it .. 20” exhaust pipe 69 liters of displacement 4 turbskis… get your beast mode on boys! Lol

    • @johnnywad7728
      @johnnywad7728 6 месяцев назад +1

      240 gallons a hour?! That's a lot of fuel max. Load or not. But I guess even mining equipment one lets off the throttle to back up or whatever. Gen.set. WOT all the time.

    • @robertthomas5906
      @robertthomas5906 6 месяцев назад +1

      That's a 2000 HP, I think 16 cylinder engine. I think that's the same engine used in a lot of generator and marine applications. Where I used to work they had 8 of those. They used to run them every month to rotate the diesel. Then EPA said they're not compliant and can only be used for an actual power outage, or they have to be updated with a urea system at substantial extra cost.
      Sure, this would make the mother of all dozers if they were to put it in a dozer. I think current dozers top out around 700 or 800 HP. It would be a marvel of engineering.
