I’m sure you probably know this already, but if a kit has very similar shades of floss with the same amount in it (Ex: 4 pink & 4 magenta), one way to figure out which is which is to find a spot that those colors’ symbols are in the chart & then look at the cover photo to determine which one is which. Like, maybe pink would be in the flowers & magenta in the hummingbird. You can usually tell which is which by using that photo to compare. I don’t know if that makes sense the way I explained it, lol 😅, but sometimes that’s the only way to tell in that situation, & that way you’re not going into it just hoping you labeled them correctly. I’ve found that Dimensions’ cover photos’ colors are usually very close to being the same exact color as the floss, at least the ones that I’ve done, so referring to the photo helps a lot. Have fun stitching your hummingbird. 😊
Calico YW, I’m like you, I don’t mind sorting floss. I used to bobbinate it, but several yrs ago I started using the floss bags on a metal ring, because it took a lot less time, & still use them. But, I’ve seen people using the floss/thread drops & think it’s cool how everyone can customize them to their liking.
It's so relaxing! Yeah, I've used bobbins, baggies, thread card organizers and now tags, lol! I still use variations of all of them depending on my mood and what's sitting nest to me at the time. Next month it will be something else, I'm sure, lol!
I love sorting floss! I find it oddly relaxing, and I'm one of those people who wouldn't notice a dye lot change if it was dancing in front of my face, so :D You don't need some magical skill, that's for sure! I love how quickly you stitched this piece up (coming at you from the future) since it was such a loved kit. Thanks for the video!
This is how I sort my Mill Hill kits, except I punch multiple holes in a row on the two long sides of a Project Life card, label with the symbol then sort. Thankfully the most I've ever had with those was 16.
Oh cool! Thanks for sharing, that sounds like it works perfectly! Oh you reminded me that I was going to mention a PAKO thread organizer...that works well, too :) It's fun to hear how others do it. Happy Stitching!
I hate sorting floss but I haven't sorted Dimensions kit floss yet-I appreciate the explanation. I had a kit for snowmen ornaments by a different company and I got them all wrong. My finished ornament was so different but all the hues of blue was horrible to sort. It was adorable though.
UGH. Can't stand the kits that make you sort the floss yourself. The manufacturer should do that. I make my own rectangular hole-punched floss cards. I use cardboard food packaging that I save for that purpose. I can fit up to ~22 colors on one big card. Easier to make than the drops/tags. You have given me the idea of using some super thick craft cardstock I have lying around. Thanks!
It sure can be tedious figuring out the colors 🤔 The thread drops are fun, but I have found that I actually prefer to put my floss on a card like you mentioned. For small kits like Mill Hill, I like to use 3x5 note cards. So many creative options . Happy Stitching!

Awesome tip Michelle! I'm going to pin it so others can read it 😊👍 Thank you! ♥️

It can be tricky and sometimes you just have to come close 😊
Many thanks. I have a few a the Dimensions kits that have to be set aside.

💜 Loved this video. Thanks for the helpful tips!
Thank you!!
I don't like how long the numbers are on Dimensions! hehe
Agreed! I actually enjoy drawing the symbols, but I figured most people might not like to take the time for that. 😊
