Man, I love these old shows. I was born in 81, but I should've been born in 1941. I love old TV shows and movies, old cars, old guns, old fashion, old music and am not much of a fan of most of those from today. Love the Cartwrights. So many great black & white shows too. Thanks for sharing these. I love the earlier episodes with Adam instead of later ones where he was gone and they had Candy I think his name was, red head guy and the ones with the red head kid. They aren't bad, but Adam was always my favorite.

Very true. Most old shows were so great. I was born in the wrong era. I'm 37, and outside of NFL and international soccer tournaments the only channel I watch is MeTV. Don't know if you have that one where you are, but it's all old shows. Between that and stuff on RUclips I find, I am never out of something to watch. People get shot a lot in old shows, but it wasn't over the top, at least now it isn't, not sure if it was considered as such back when it first aired. I love this show and Big Valley because they always do the right thing no matter what the cost. Quality television programming from back in the day is so much better than the crap "reality" TV from today. I've been watching old shows since I was a little kid. I've always especially LOVED black & white shows and movies. Richard Diamond was awesome along with Wagon Train, Rawhide, Thriller, all of Hitchcock's television shows the half hour and hour shows, Maverick, Have Gun Will Travel, 77 Sunset Strip, Untouchables, the Fugitive, Trackdown, the Outer Limits, Route 66 and Naked City are some of my all time favorites. Twilight Zone is another favorite, but it was in a class all by itself. So many social issues addressed in just the right way. Some shows in trying to get my hands on are the original Mike Hammer which a lot of people on here in the comment section of one of its episodes don't seem to like him playing the role, but I love McGavin. He's the same guy in everything he plays and I love it. Others I want to see are Man with a Camera, Philip Marlowe and a few others. So classic and the actors and actresses were far more talented than most of today's people. There are some good actors out there now, but not nearly as many.

It is still a treat to watch in such quality even without the intro music.
What is so FANTASTIC about early US TV programmes is that they were shot on FILM, hence the superb quality presented here.
If anyone gets a chance to see good copies of Rawhide, The Virginian, Bonanza, (here), The Big Valley, The Man from Uncle, Star Trek, Mission Impossible, and hundreds more, they look like they were filmed yesterday!
The U.K. was mainly using poor quality video tape, or sometimes a mixture of both, where external scenes would be shot on film, and the rest of the programme shot on tape. The result was disastrous. See the M R James TV movie - CASTING THE RUNES, 1979, to see how a cheap production technique ruined what could have been a classic movie. The BBC produced many outstanding period dramas which were made to look cheap and studio bound just because they were not shot on film. The most crazy being WAR AND PEACE, 1972, starring Anthony Hopkins.
We should have let the US produce all our programmes!

50 years later, I notice that the guns are period correct, pretty much. Joe carries a Colt 1851 Navy; Hoss and Pa both use 1858 Remingtons (conversions for this episode which, given the first season was 1866, by 1871 conversions for cartidges were available). In this episode I also see an Open Top 1860 Army. Looks like they took the fore ends off some 1892 Winchester rifles to give them that Volcanic/Henry look. Always did like this show.

Strange how a simple video of this show could be a welcome sight, reminding you of HOME...not so much entirely 'home' as a structure that people and families inhabit, but HOME--a time, a place, an entire existence and most importantly, the people who shared this space with you, all rolled up and seared within your memory... sometimes we all leave home for too long ...we grow up, taught to move forward through life, yet we sometimes forget to look back, a completely simple act , until a show like this pops onto your radar and in the process of watching it again for the first time in years, and in the reflection of the screen, you begin to notice exactly what was behind you.... it's home...
It's a place before you went out into the world to create a home of your own...when innocence was a REAL thing... When family meant EVERYTHING...I may sound cliche in wanting to go back but I would give ANYTHING just to get another chance to be in THAT home one more time, to sit and watch Bonanza with my Dad again... Watching this show and conversating about nothing important and simply enjoying the moment...damn I miss my Dad!

Back when these Bonanza episodes first aired they were cutting edge State of The Art.
    broadcast television.
    The Sopranos of its time.
Sunday night family entertainment that had a
l-o-n-g run. Very rare at the time.
Lots of shows only ran two or three seasons.
Television was still a fairly new medium.
Watching now in 2020 I'm amazed how this series sold high moral values without being " preachy". Truth always prevailed.
    The good guys always triumphed.
Dan Blockers role as Hoss was superb.
Also this was Lorne Greene's best role. I would of loved to have seen them make a major motion picture!
The only thing the show could have used was more women.....( Very male dominated show.)
More women would have been nice....at least in guest starring roles.
