      A lot of cars these days are overstyled, the original A1 was quite nice but now you can't even get it in a 3 door version (same with the Polo), it'sa shame.

    To be honest i like the A1 better than the A3. I love the coloured accents in the dash and doors, it does give it a bit of contrast to the piano black everywhere. I do like the wheels too. I always thought these competed against the Mercedes A Class and the BMW 1 Series. Good thing it has a nice tea shelf too. Great video as always

    I like the 3 slots in the top of the grille, retro design from the '84 Sport quattro. My mum had the previous A1 and since last year the new one. The 30 TFSI Intro Edition. I like the older one more, more restrained and clean design. Great video, good review.

    Hmm, £30K seems a lot for a small car without heated seats, rear cup holders or 12V plug in at the rear, and plastic pretend metal trim on the dash.
    I'm sure it goes well, but not my cup of tea (even if it does have a decent tea shelf!).

    • @acwdrivingservices9877
      @acwdrivingservices9877 3 года назад +1

      @@EinkOLED The Audi drove like an Audi - planted on the road and quick. The 1.6 diesel Turbo had plenty of poke but average MPG. The Fabia was not built as a drivers car with its tiny 1L three cylinder turbo (I was very sceptical initially), but somehow it was just more fun compared to the Audi's more "serious" nature. I appreciated the Audi' driving poise, but the Fabia put the bigger smile on my face (and my wallet, 60 mpg an long runs easy). Personal choice I suppose.

      Far better off with a golf 8 with this engine. 30k seems a little steep its not even the top 40tfsi one? My gtd 7 on a 65 wasnt quite 30k i know that was 5 years ago. But was a highish end golf from a class above.

    Looks good. This will be Furious Junior's 17th birthday present sorted then. Liking this 1.5 Turbo more and more every time someone features it. £31,000 and no heated seats, mean.
    I think that the MINI does high speed cruising really well. Ok the interior is not really spacious but it feels great in a good spec with leather. Not very well informed about the Fiesta Vignale sounds cool.

    Growing to like "Modern Monday" as it reinforces my loathing of modern cars, touchscreen tech and digital displays, awful. Give me wood, leather and a bit of Axminster or Wilton on the floor, pure wool of course, proper switches and dials, basically idiot proof. A decent auto box without flappy paddles, even a pre select if one goes back enough (fluid flywheel preferred over centrifugal clutch). Heaven! Who has a nice P5b Coupe or a Conquest handy?

  • @robc5955
    @robc5955 3 года назад +4

    It’s a nice car, but I would expect a bit more premium for that money, if it was whisper quiet on all surfaces you could forgive the lack of heated seats and armrest but otherwise there are other cars offering what Audi do these days for less.

    Great video sorry I’m 2 months late😂 I have this car got it when my last one got wrote off I do love it however so many things niggle me and for the price defo should have thought more about if I really wanted it. I’m still 50/50 sometimes I do regret it as everything is extra, heated seats, arm rest, lights etc all bring the price up. I agree about the Lane assist being a bit bossy sometimes if there’s roadworks on motorway and you have to go over 2 lanes it can be a little hard to make it go where you need it to but can be turned off on the indicator stick at the end the little button but it’s not clear at all. I honestly think you pay for the Audi badge and all the ‘toys’ with it I call them. Things you don’t need sometimes and things you do need like folding mirrors I don’t even have in mine😂 I would recommend this car but only if you wanted to waste money it’s a great car but the price is daft and so was I for paying it haha

  • @Lotus.F

    Absolutely, it feels a lot bigger car due to it's excellent stability control at high speed. Its actually a 7 speed DSG not 6 speed, and the car in the video doesn't have the S line steering wheel. 30 K car with no armrest there's seriously something wrong with it. 5ft 11 inches tall is not an average height lol.

    £30k for a small hatchback! Gosh! I guess these will either be company cars or on personal car lease deals? So do mere mortals spend £30k on a car these days? I still think that £10k is an absolute fortune to pay for a motor..........(my current car cost less than £5!)

      I like the copper coloured interior accents and the gold/grey wheels. Good effort to find the positives Matt, but £30k for a jazzed-up Polo not for me (even though most will be leased/PCP so a bit academic). Would help if quality was top drawer, but for me the cabin quality is a step back from the old gen. Plus unheated leather seats are no fun in this weather!

    My advice is stay well a way from this model!! There's far to many faults and problems to list here with the one I've got.
    From simple one the clock gives your a random time every time I get in.
    To more serious the audi collision sensor slams the brakes on for no reason at all.
    If it lightly snows FORGET IT!!!!

    I know now where VW got its ID3 body from; no usb port back there, you can see the level of stingyness when in a 30,000 car, the rear doors don't receive the same treatment as the front doors, bad bad Audi 👎🏻

  • @malcolmherbert5127
    @malcolmherbert5127 3 года назад

    I can only ever think of the Audi A1 as a huge step backwards after the brilliance of the A2. Yes, I know, Audi lost money on every one they made, yes it was initially quite difficult to get body repairs done as they were all aluminium. Even those monster muppets on Top Gear found an unbelievably huge failing in it, when at a standstill the single wiper arm rocked the car gently when in operation. Of course, they never thought that could be good thing as it highlighted the incredibly light weight of the bodywork which allowed for mpg figures which would be impressive still today let alone almost 20 years ago. Why Audi didn’t move forward with that approach I don’t understand, the following Q7 and A8 continued with the all- aluminium construction pioneered by the A2 so surely they could have developed it into a more attractively priced 2nd. generation. I did read many years ago that the A2 was used as a prototype to prove the viability of all-aluminium construction but whether that’s true or not I can’t say.

    Don't think these have sold anything like as well as the first gen - I haven't really seen many of these around since they were released.
    Design looks a bit fussy which is a shame because I think the original car looked great!
    30k is a joke but I guess it doesn't matter because everyone has them on finance anyway.
    Surely they should have done a 208 and made an electric version, no?

  • @ivan747100
    @ivan747100 3 года назад

    The 'weird angle' of the back edge of the adjustable boot floor lid is a design feature so that, when you have it set in the lower position and you then fold down the rear seat backrests, you don't have luggage getting jammed against the suspension protrusions on the lower sides of the boot floor & against the base of the seat back causing a hump and making it difficult to slide any heavy items forward and onto the folded-down backrests.
    This picture from an Australian test review shows the boot of the Audi A1 with the adjustable boot floor lid removed & one of the backrests folded down and you can see the angled rear suspension indents on either side of the boot floor that would restrict sliding items forward, as well as the difference in height of the folded down backrest and the boot floor, more clearly.

    I have a 35 tfsi and disagree about the power- rev it and it'll get up to alarming speeds very quickly. Don't like the ride on Scottish lumpy roads- but of a white knuckle ride and wears you a bit. Android auto can be temperamental. Lane assist is a nightmare and feels downright dangerous and unpredictable. Apart from that not a bad city car.

    Woah, a 3.0L turbo! :O Not! It's a 3 cilinder 1.0L turbo. xD
    I mean, that is what Audi is going for, people thinking it has a much larger engine. Kind of pathetic.

    I would consider this vehicle overpriced at 20k, a well over tarted up, bland, plasticky and fairly tastless VW Polo. They're having a laugh at 30k and you to will become part of thier expensive joke if you mad enough to join the sad clan and aquire one of these.
    There are so many other quality vehicles out there today offering much, much better 'value for money', and dare I say it better reliability than Audi/Vw. Even Seat and Skoda are much better bets, even better built, cheaper and sad to say more reliable. Just take a good look around and don't be the fool thats bedazzled by such sparkly, cheaply blinged up, standard fair.

    I would take a lightly used fiesta vignale 140bhp ecoboost with 8000 miles for £14000.

    A compact Audi out of warranty is a Skoda with larger repair bills.

      It’s not about the price, it’s all about the monthly payments. Very few of these (if any) will be bought in the traditional manner.

      @@jasonk7072 the purchase price will need soaked up somewhere along the line mate.either through monthly’s or residuals.Just feel over £30 grand for an entry level car is something I struggle to get excited about.Don’t get me started on the A class😂

      @@garyfuzz2434 I agree, it’s crazy money, but I think the RRP is designed to discourage an outright purchase and make the PCP deals look more appealing. After all 50% depreciation on £30k leaves more than 50% on £20k. And Audi will do rather nicely out of the deal at both ends, especially if you option it up, go over your agreed mileage or scratch it.

    Boring Version of a VW Polo with an interior that is inferior to the previous generation. Overpriced and not made in Germany. Triumph of swish marketing and fancy dealerships over substance! Rant over but thank you for taking the time to review this. I’ll think it’s better to redirect this kind of money into making my pension bigger by getting tax relief (20%) from the government at the same time. Its expensive and will be worth 20% less as soon as it drives out of the showroom (VAT). Better off with an older car!

    If you are going to review a car make sure you get your facts right about the gears, six gears for a manual seven from automatically.
