I don't understand why people endlessly compare new car prices to used car prices. For around £24k you can get faster, more luxurious cars that are not new... everyone knows that, how about a comparison to another new car? That's actually fair.
i got a 30 TFSI A1 for a year now. i mostly agree with this review. But for example the lane departure warning can be easily turned off via a songle press of the outer button on the 2nd stick on the left. sometimes i keep it on when i am driving long distances on the motorway and when i feel that i get tired. It is just good to know that i am not the only one that wants to keep the lane in those situations. And on the motorway it always worked fine to me. never had unexpected steering. tried it on german, dutch, belgian, french and italien roads. there is one exception: road construction sides. those often come with extra yellow lines - while the white lines are still visible. in those situations the car cant allways figure out which lines are the good ones. but as i said: one click on the 2nd stick and the system is turned off. the Adui pre sense also had me a couple of times. for example when someone in fron of me wanted to turn left but its boot is still a bit on my lane. a situation where you just steer around and go. but pre sense can trigger on that. but when you press the gas, it stops breaking and goes quiet again. another time it die ABS breaking because somneone in front of me decided to break very hard for whatever reason. i saw that and was also breaking at the same time. nothing would had happened if there was no Audi Pre Sense. but if i would had looked to the side (e.g. checking cross traffic) just for moment, i would had crashed into that car. also on the motorway it triggered once because the traffic ahead behind a corner was way slower than what you would expect. all in all i dont dislike the Pre Sense. as soon as you understand how it is analysing the traffic, it is a nice addition to your own eyes. there are other systems i dislike more. the high beam assistant is absolut garbage. i love the audi A1. it is perfect if you live in an urban area. it is comfortable even on long distances and has a great fuel economy.

Nicely done review, very fair judgements and presented well in an easy to understand way 👍🏼 I have a 2015 Golf, also in manual, and missed out on the rear camera/parking sensors, lane departure, pedestrian braking etc etc but I’m glad it doesn’t try to correct the steering for me, that just sounded freaky on the country road.
It would have been useful to know how it compares to the Ibiza and Polo as it has such a lot in common but is more expensive. Is wind and road noise better insulated for example?
Great review! Regarding the lane departure warning, you get to know the system and you can press a button to disable it instantly, it’s not like you must use it when the road is not up to what it’s expecting 🤷♂️
I cannot say that I would particularly want to own a vehicle that had an LCD instrument panel. I was recently watching another video of the 1987 Aston Martin Lagonda Series 3, which was an early example of a vehicle with display screens on the instrument panel, and I saw that one of the screens was faulty due to its age. That was filmed somewhere in the US and I don't know what kind of weather that particular unit would have been exposed to in its 30-year history, however I live in Australia and I know for a fact that cars get very, very hot inside during the summer months, even if you leave them out in the sun for a short period of time. I'm not quite sure that LCD display screens are as capable of withstanding those sort of temperatures as normal instrument panels are.
I currently have a 2016 1.2 Nissan Qashqai and looking to trade the car for a Audi - the A1 looks nice but would have liked if it had the option to have them matrix lights , sunroof , it doesn’t have blind spot detection . The Audi A3 facelift is taking ages to get announced . I would have to wait a few more months before going for the new Audi A3 or look for the A1. I like the way the mmi touchscreen is nicely blended in the dashboard. I prefer that then the stuck on screens or the current Audi A3 screen
