Recently got the 90D - it’s awesome and a huge upgrade over a 70D. Also the burst rate is much higher then the RP and it’s also lightly weather sealed. The 4K footage is also very sharp.
The RP is 10x better in low light for stills. 2 stops cleaner (sometimes a lot more than that) and that means a lot! So ISO 3200 on the 90D looks more like ISO 12800 on the RP. I have the M6 Mk II which has the same sensor and processor as the 90D (but kills it in terms of af performance and burst rate). The RP is in a whole different league when it comes to ISO performance. It is so much cleaner that I've almost stopped using my beloved M6 Mk II altogether because I'm so aware of noise at even ISO 400 in the shade that doesn't exist at ISO 2000 on the RP. I use my M6 Mk II purely for birds in flight and fast action now.
I currently own the RP and mostly do photography, from my experience so far using EF glass it is a great upgrade over my T7i. especially buying for $999 with the adapter, and offsetting the price of selling my rebel. I am not so concerned about 4k nor video, and heavily enjoy having an EVF over an OVF. If you are in the canon eco system on a crop sensor camera with EF-(S) glass and want to stay canon and go full frame without breaking the bank this is a great option.
I agree with you fully. Unless I was into a lot of sports photography I'd take the RP any day. The AF is far better than the inconsistent AF of the 90D and the high ISO performance is light years ahead. It is so customisable that the buttons and dials are better too.
@@the_daniel_life Hey bro, why do most dslr removed the head display? Few years back, they can be seen on almost all models, now, only professional ones seems to come with them. That display is very much needed plus battery life is much better since rear lcd is turned off most of time.
I personally do not care for electric viewfinders. I like the being able to see the true image/colors with my eyes through the prism viewfinder. One thing I would really miss going to mirrorless.
Don't be deceived by the fact that the RP is a "Full Frame mirrorless". Even though the 90D is not a FF mirrorless, it is still a far superior camera to the RP, specially when it comes to Video capabilities, which blows the RP out of the water. Key thing to remember, the RP is listed as an Entry Level Budget FF camera, where the 90D is listed as an Intermediate to Pro level camera.
I purchased a new 90D in March of 2023 and love it. It does everything I want and more. With my 80D they make a great pair to take on a shoot when I need two cameras. One thing nobody mentions much is the top LCD info screen on the 90D and the cameras that predate it. For me it’s very convenient to check and change basic camera settings using this screen. You don’t get this in a mirrorless camera until you go much higher in price.
I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying your new 90D! It sounds like it's a great addition to your photography gear, especially when paired with your 80D for a two-camera setup. You bring up a valid point about the top LCD info screen, and it's clear that this feature is quite valuable to you for quickly checking and adjusting basic camera settings. The convenience of having such information readily available can be a significant advantage, and it's true that not all mirrorless cameras offer this feature at a lower price point. While mirrorless cameras have their own set of advantages, such as a more compact size and potentially faster autofocus, it's excellent that you've found a setup that suits your needs with the 90D and 80D combination. Happy shooting, and may you capture many great moments with your camera duo!
This is something I've been debating myself lately. I like the RP ergonomics and RP would be a good way for me to get into the RF lens line with hopes it'll come down in price. But I'm more of a video guy, plus having been a long time user of the older Rebel cameras (the XT and the T3) I have EF/S lenses...I know, I can go with an adapter to mount those older glass on the RP. I personally already have the Canon M50 though, so I know whats its like shooting 4K with the contrast based AF with an additional crop factor. Decisions decisions decisions...
I have been watching reviews for over 3 days now to decide between the two cameras otherwise u have made a clear comparison here....am going for 90d simply because I shoot alot of music videos that's requires smooth slow motion 120fps is the beast for me...amd also I do alot of Documentaries for NGOs and Initiatives...that 11 fps will help me capture those busy moments in the field with the battery life OMG and also the 33.5 Megapixels is huge deal for me.... upgrading from my 5 years old canon 600D......

I’m not bothered about 4K I want to know best for overall photography? I’m going to invest in a good lens so I want to know best body for the lens
I've just bought this camera, actually a few days ago, and just published the unboxing and first impressions...from my humble vlogger point of view I can say it's an awesome camera...The 120fps 1080 and 4k with no crop and dual pixel autofocus are the two main reasons why I decided to get the 90D. I haven't tried the 4K yet...I am afraid my computer will pack up and leave if I try (it's an old mcbook pro 2012). The built-in microphone is amazing...when I use the rode videomicro it sounds better ok...but it's good to know that in case of emergency, lack of external microphone for whatever reason, the sound would be more than acceptable.
I already own a 5D mark III so I didnt feel the need to upgrade to another full frame. The 5D mark III is still a beast of a DSLR. But I started out in 2012 with a Canon T3i and I loved that camera. But I gave it to my daughter and upgraded to an 80D in 2018. Just wanted a DSLR that auto focused for video. But quickly sold it in January to a friend who only had a T6. I then ordered my 90D with no regrets. I love my 90D and shoot more with it than my 5D mark III.
Full frame 4k 120fps 24fps IS no crop side sd custom buttons like dsrl bigger battery usbc hdmi headphonejack weather seal flip side lcd USB charging hotshoe with pin...canon mirrorless camera would be great a perfect camera.
The lenses are expensive but bro if you have any questions about cameras and the way they perform check out camera descions. They compare the cameras and rate them based on specs and performance.
Neither. But if it was MANDATORY, I would chose the RP, because of completely silent shooting, actual exposure inside the viewfinder and most importantly - all the best lenses are designed for full frame coverage and work best on what they are designed for.
Don't get hung up on the 1.6 crop factor on the 90D. That crop factor is akin to a mild telephoto effect which a full frame camera doesn't do. Each camera is capable. Thanks for the review.
Because the 90D is a far superior camera! Key words to remember for the RP..... ENTRY LEVEL (BUDGET) FF mirrorless camera! The 90D, even though is not a new mirrorless full frame, is still considered an Intermediate to Pro level camera! And the 90D to buy brand new body only, is still more expensive than the RP, body only!
I currently use a Canon 80D and the RP would be a definite downgrade. The slow burst shooting rate is a deal breaker. For me the 90D is a much better choice. I shoot birds and wildlife so a high burst rate is essential.
Thanks for the review, I’m looking to upgrade from the 1300d and mainly shoot Street Photography with some Landscape and other general photography, don’t really do any video at all. I’ve looked at so many cameras but I do have 5 canon lenses, most only for EF-S, which would you say is best? I must say that was the best review I’ve seen so far but which would you say has the better low light performance using similar lenses?
Hey i know it’s late just starting out now and stuck between these two, in 2022 what would you prefer, i want to be mainly focused on stills no videos may be a little. Which would be a better purchase in 2022. Thanks in advance
I don't do videos and I'm interested in astrophotography, landscapes, portrait of family/friends and sometimes wildlife pictures (not the priority). I understand that lens matter the most for these steps and I know I can get the same EF lenses for both but RF for the RP. Given all that, isn't RP the best choice for my preferences?
For photography, travel, adventure, street, portraits, architecture.... I don't really care about video. I care about battery life, picture quality, and being able to get a couple of lenses. Thoughts?
While the egos feel good on the rp it's still pretty front heavy. Most of the lenses are heavy and when adapting old glass the same is true. Plus without the grip on the RP I feel like you are really screwed. The 90d looks very solid and comfortable. The new joystick looks awesome and the battery life is one of the best I've heard of. This will be my last DSLR for sure since I already have some mirrorless bodies.
Touch and drag is way better than a joystick for 2 reasons. Firstly, it's more direct and much faster. Just drag it straight where you want it in one fast action. Secondly, in AF tracking mode, dragging the point and releasing it is effectively the same as tapping the screen in liveview. It immediately knows what your subject is and tracks it wherever it moves in the frame. The AF on the RP (with up-to-date firmware) makes the 45 point focusing on the 90D look like the antiquated system it is. People are struggling to get sharp images with the 90D on moving subjects due to it's sub-par AF system.
meh. I disagree that because a camera is full frame it's necessarily better at low light. Clear examples of that are the full frame 5Ds and the 5DsR 50mp cameras. Their sensors are basically 7D II sensors expanded to 50mp. I wouldn't want to shoot any of the three much above iso 2000. The RP has the full frame 6D II sensor which is good to iso 3200 but is still less worthy than the original 6D. I'm leaving the 5DsR at home and taking my 6D out to shoot right now because, you guessed it, it's nighttime....
@@the_daniel_life ...lol... looks like you're losing track of your videos my friend ... this one is about cameras not lenses and tripods won't work on moving subjects in low light photography...)
I just sold the m6mark ii. I like the picture quality but found it too small to comfortably hold. I do like the RP but I think that the 90D has a better sensor. More detail because of the higher resolution. I'm a bit conflicted because Canon will release its new lineup by the end of the year, but I really want a camera now. So most likely, I'm gonna get the 90D.
Better comparison now would be 90d vs the R since the rp is less than 1k and the 90d is still 1200 and the r is 1800, the ef lenses are being phased out now. Mirrorless has taken over and dslr is being phased out, some ppl cant get used to the evf also so dslr is better for them. Its a weird time to pick a camera now.
FYI, the app only transfer jpg, not raw. But the app is much better made than the ones for nikon and sony. User friendly, stable, fast and you kind of doesn't feel that you aren't using the camera.
Daniel, thanks for sharing a great comparison video. Also, I wanted let you know that the I downloaded the photos from the link you provided for both the Canon 90D and Canon RP to compare their quality, I’m more interested in the photos that were taken at night in low light conditions. I attempted to compared the photos, but I noticed that Folder for the 90D contains the night photos that were taken with RP, can you upload the night fotos that you shot with Canon 90D camera. Thanks in advanced!
Hello, thanks for letting me know. I will have a look at the files and I try to upload some more example files taken in low light. All the best from Frankfurt, Daniel
I really appreciate your videos. I have been learning manual functions on a Canon Powershot sx530hs and feel that I am ready to go to an interchangeable lens camera. I narrowed it down to theee Canon options: T7i 80D 90D I can swing either of them, but I want to have the most flexibility to advance to the next level. Is this enough information to make a recommendation for where I am at?
The 80D is only available on the used market. I bought one two years ago and love it. Easy and comfortable to use with many great features. If you can afford it I would go for a new 90D. There is quite a bit learn about it and many videos on RUclips are a great help.
Hi, the RP is on sale now, $999 comes with 24-105 f4-7.1 kit lens, do you see more values in the RP than the 90D at this point? Or u still prefer the 90D? Thank you!
@A Google User aww, someone got hurt because he is too poor for a tripod 😂 but still living in moms basement, so he can play tough 🤣 Try to travel around the world and hike 😉 I'm sure your mom will let you go.
Would you say it's better for me to save up some more and buy the Eos R, or would you say it's better for me to go for a cheaper camera Like the Eos rp, or the 90D? I want something that is good image quality for videos that makes me look my best. I think I'm gonna save up fir the Eos R, but I just don't wanna buy a much more expensive camera that makes me look worse. Right now I have the 200D/Sl2 and I'm not really happy with the image quality as I feel like I generally look better than I do when recorded with my 200D. Please help.
Dsrl 100 slow motion vs rp lack 24fps? Dsrl video record ov disabled...how about panning using lcd? Ev no guessing exposure. Rp full frame but limited is new expensive thousand dollars lenses.
Anyone who knows anything about Night Photography knows that you DO NOT use high ISO. To do proper night photography, you get a good lens with the fast aperture, 1.8 or 1.4, and always keep the ISO as low as possible (50-200 max)
m6II is nto worth it. the M system is a dead end. I went for the 90D instead of the RP due to the superior image quality and video. I also have the EOS M5 as a walkaround and would not consder the m6 due to the oversimplified body and no evf. I would wait for the M5 mk2
I disagree eos rp is a better buy. 4k crop of eos rp is same as apsc crop of 90d. Canon 1080p is much better and eos rp opens rf lens, it's mirror less and now it's cheaper than 90d
Hey, I would either upgrade to a full frame DSLR, like the 5D Mark IV or switch to the R6 Mark II with the adapter, to save some money for new lenses. Daniel
I have the Canon 2000D, which is a APS-C system, it is a entry level camera, I have a few EF lens so definitely sticking with Canon, the crop factor is annoying for me, I have the 50mm f1.8, which once is on my camera turns into a 80mm, which I don’t like, I will definitely be getting the full frame RP, I don’t care for video, I have an iPhone 11 if I want to shoot video. The RP is purely for photography, I would never buy another APS-C camera again
have you ever considered that you bought the wrong lens for your needs? if you wanted a 50mm equivalent lens for APSC Canon was already selling a 28mm prime. The argument you are making just shows you didn't do research before buying.
axelfiraxa I got the camera and lens as a gift, if I was buying I would of know that. As the video also states full frame is better in low light, full frame cameras hands down are better then APS-C
That is a very debatable statement. I have the Sigma 1.8 18 to 100 zoom pair which gives me about a f2.5 level of brightness and background separation at a slightly lower weight to boot. The ISO advantage largely disipates under those conditions. Also the flexinility of the 90D sensor is almost on par with the 5d4 and better than the 6d2 i compared it against before buying. There is also the matter of what you actually need. For most people full frsme is not the answer.
Saying you can’t compare these is like saying you shouldn’t. I’m a bit annoyed by this mindset because there are RUclipsrs who will pull it off and do it well; delivering good and useful content proven here. It doesn’t always get silly because something doesn’t match up. As for the cameras I might go from 80D to 90D. If Santa were to put 3 RF zooms underneath my Christmas tree though ......
The RP is vastly superior at high ISOs and the AF (with great face and eye detection) is far better than focusing using the OVF of the 90D. There have been many issues with soft focus on the 90D due to the high pixel density of the sensor (many lenses can't resolve it) and just outdated AF technology.
it''s a naming convention started in the early 2000'when canon and nikon moved to digital. They put the D on a different side just so people don't confuse the cameras when talking about them in model numbers.
Because built-in flash is garbage. If you often shine a torch in someone's face to photograph them, sure, use a built-in flash. Otherwise, use an external flash.

Did you see this video? This lens is great for the kind of photography you are doing --> ruclips.net/video/RoAPDx3XMPE/видео.html
For photography, travel, adventure, street, portraits, architecture.... I don't really care about video.
I care about battery life, picture quality, and being able to get a couple of lenses. Thoughts?
Hey there, I would go with the EOS R6, Daniel --> ruclips.net/video/RzbDqWedKs0/видео.html
Locks witch? Motor? What are these things? 1:50
I'm thinking the RP might be better for someone who has no idea what they're doing
Love to buy 90d thank you
You are welcome. Thanks for watching. Daniel
Well. If you use a tripod you can use any of these lenses. Even your smartphone with a longer exposure time to take noise-free-photos. Daniel
I would wait for the EOS R7, if not needed earlier. Daniel
@@the_daniel_life Good advice. I'm gonna wait at least until Canon officially announces its new lineup.
Hello, as said in the video and in my WiFi-Setup video for this camera. Daniel

Videos and photos :)
RP is only $999 right now with the EF adapter and extension grip. Its a steal and an easy choice over the 90D IMO.
But is that a special offer at the moment?
the daniel life yes, until Nov 30
@@michaelbell75 what site is this promo on?
Sure if you like a drop down to 10 mp
@@Meerstristan Its everywhere, in the US at least. Its the instant rebate from Canon they do at this time every year.
Dude!!!! You're using a kit lens on the 90d... And an L-Series on the RP... And test low light performance. 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Brentson Digital lmao exactly
The RP is significantly better at high ISO than the 90D, as in 2 stops better.
i am a sony a7iii user with all of the lenses... but i bought an rp as a second body (+ i have a 6d) cause i can't live without the full frame :D
You need to update rp, because it is recording 24fps now 😉 just like the 90d
Thank you very much for the info. Daniel
The RP is good, but 4K only at 24p? The 90d does 4K at 30p with autofocus.
I create tutorials with obs so I need 30p or 60p. Canon 90d it is
A well put together video well done!!
Thank you very much mate.
Daniel
I narrowed it down to theee Canon options:
T7i
80D
90D
I can swing either of them, but I want to have the most flexibility to advance to the next level. Is this enough information to make a recommendation for where I am at?
Hello, you are welcome. i would go for the 90D. Daniel
The 80D is only available on the used market. I bought one two years ago and love it. Easy and comfortable to use with many great features. If you can afford it I would go for a new 90D. There is quite a bit learn about it and many videos on RUclips are a great help.
I am deciding between these two but its difficult! For pictures only would you say the RP or 90d is better?
Only pictures, RP.
Vídeo, 90D
I am going to purchase the Canon 90D
Great to hear that. All the best from Frankfurt, Daniel
Why are you guys not comparing the same exact photo?? that would really help..
Hi, the RP is on sale now, $999 comes with 24-105 f4-7.1 kit lens, do you see more values in the RP than the 90D at this point? Or u still prefer the 90D? Thank you!
Thank you for the advice. Well, if it comes with a 24-105 (not a good aperture), I would take it. Daniel
The EOS RP is selling for 1000$ including the mount adapter.
Which would you recommend now ?
i am deciding between the Canon Rp with the RF 24-105mm lens and the Sony a7iii hmm very hard decision
Great review! Thanks a ton. Cleared a lot of questions for me. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Card easy swap, really depends on what tripod you use 😊 no problem on my rp and gorilla pod, without removing the camera from the tripod 😉
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Depends on the tripod :) Regards from Frankfurt, Daniel
@A Google User aww, someone got hurt because he is too poor for a tripod 😂 but still living in moms basement, so he can play tough 🤣
Try to travel around the world and hike 😉 I'm sure your mom will let you go.
@A Google User Wow, what a comment. Jealous, by the sound of it.
Great comparison vid!
Well I would take the EOS R. If you have to decide between the EOS RP and EOS 90D, I would go for the 90D:
@@the_daniel_life Thanks for the reply. I think I'm gonna go for the R.
Dsrl 100 slow motion vs rp lack 24fps? Dsrl video record ov disabled...how about panning using lcd? Ev no guessing exposure. Rp full frame but limited is new expensive thousand dollars lenses.
V good video, plz advice me best photo camera for wedding videography under 1200$, used or new one, plz reply.
Get a Sony a6000 with a 50mm 1.8 and the standard lens that comes with the kit. Daniel
Which one would you suggest for Landscapes & Portraits photography .? Canon RP / 80D / 90d or any other in similar price range...?
FULL FRAME
RP com certeza !!!
Great video and information my friend.
You are welcome. Thanks a lot. Daniel
Anyone who knows anything about Night Photography knows that you DO NOT use high ISO. To do proper night photography, you get a good lens with the fast aperture, 1.8 or 1.4, and always keep the ISO as low as possible (50-200 max)
Hello, you know it, I know it, but there are a lot of people who buy this camera, as their first camera and may not know it. Daniel
Nice review my friend 👏🏻👌🏻from Denver Colorado
Thank you very much. I‘ve been there twice, at the airport. All the best from Frankfurt am Main/Germany, Daniel
the daniel life that’s awesome! By the way I got the Canon 90D and I love it. And right back atcha
Nice choice.
Hope you like it,
Daniel
great job....have the 80D and trying to figure out where i want to go from here. sony...m6 II....R....too many choices....
Same! I think I'll go for RP as it is FF body & with latest firmware update it is even better. I don't care much about 4k.
Nikon Z6
m6II is nto worth it. the M system is a dead end. I went for the 90D instead of the RP due to the superior image quality and video.
I also have the EOS M5 as a walkaround and would not consder the m6 due to the oversimplified body and no evf. I would wait for the M5 mk2
I suspect the 90D is the last canon APS-C DSLR.
I guess there will be a cheaper version as well. Like the 300D or so. Daniel
Why? The 1DX Mark III will come out soon.
We should probably see a canon t8i, and maybe an 88d
Still torn between these two...especially now with the new firmware updates... help me decide!!!
I would go for the 90D with all it‘s benefits. Daniel
I disagree eos rp is a better buy. 4k crop of eos rp is same as apsc crop of 90d. Canon 1080p is much better and eos rp opens rf lens, it's mirror less and now it's cheaper than 90d
i got canon 750d with 2EF lens is it worth to upgrade to 90D or should i go mirrorless?
Hey, I would either upgrade to a full frame DSLR, like the 5D Mark IV or switch to the R6 Mark II with the adapter, to save some money for new lenses. Daniel
Hello if am looking for a camera for portrait and video , which one will you go with ?
I would go for the R model.
How about the R6 II? Or the R?
You need to get a proper lens too: ruclips.net/video/3jbZz1hQ8ak/видео.html
Honest opinion, in 2021 which one is the better choice? RP or 90D? I'm upgrading from a old Canon 700D 🤣
RP, = foco 👍 cores 👍 90D = foco 👎 cores 👎!
Will I be wowed coming from a Canon 60D?
What?
Very excellent review, well done!
Thank you very much. Daniel
Bro any link for your jacket? Seriously liked that
At what minute?

90D is a beast for taking wild life photographie and make some video
thanks for your feedback.
@@TheYorkshireBiker82 no no no, lol you cant shoot!
Which should I buy for wedding photography?
The RP is vastly superior at high ISOs and the AF (with great face and eye detection) is far better than focusing using the OVF of the 90D. There have been many issues with soft focus on the 90D due to the high pixel density of the sensor (many lenses can't resolve it) and just outdated AF technology.
Thanks
Canon 90D vs Nikon D90 …. why do they share the same name but D's on different sides? D stand for Digital?
it''s a naming convention started in the early 2000'when canon and nikon moved to digital. They put the D on a different side just so people don't confuse the cameras when talking about them in model numbers.
Greetings from the netherlands great channel 👍...subbed directly.
I think i will go for the 90D
juhu. thank you very much. Happy to hear that. thank for your support, Daniel
Good review, danke!
You are welcome. Daniel
90D also have built-in flash, rp doesn't 😊
Another good fact. Regards from Frankfurt, Daniel
Because built-in flash is garbage. If you often shine a torch in someone's face to photograph them, sure, use a built-in flash. Otherwise, use an external flash.
@@cooloox cuz everyone is a pro and carries all the gear with them everywhere
RP não precisa de Flash, 🤭😆
is tough because in lowlight the RP is a monster but it doesnt have 120 fps :(
