    The hot start led to complacency: a feeling of quiet pleasure or security, often while unaware of some potential danger, defect, or the like; self-satisfaction or smug satisfaction with an existing situation, condition, etc.

    Braves fan here, Phils had an outstanding season. I'm not a fan of sitting for 5 days then going back out there expecting the bats to be hot. This likely was part of the issue. Not every team is impacted by the layoff the same way but some teams just come out flat after being idle for 5 days. It's happened to us 2 years as well in my opinion. This year we had too many injuries to overcome and the Padres were just better than us with what we out out on the field. Phils will be solid next year as well. Mets have had a nice season too. 2025 division race should be a dandy to watch down to the wire!

      I agree but won’t use that as an excuse. That can easily be mitigated by playing a legit all in scrimmage against one of the minor league teams to stay fresh. The Phillies even played a mock game at the stadium prior to the implosion in the nlds

      @BKDBut They are not the only team since this seeding method was used 2 years ago. Go educate yourself and look at other teams put out 1st round after 5 days off. No other time during the year does a team sit that long except the all star break. If you can't comprehend that it will hurt some teams, then I can't help you. If you read what I put above, I clearly stated it has not impacted ALL teams that way but it's stupid to sit for 5 days that damn long. Period

      @BKDBut Месяц назад

      @jb4054 Месяц назад

      @BKDBut No, it's happened multiple times, actually, and common sense says it's worth the conversation. Braves had historic offense 2023 and you think they forgot how to hit in 1st round vs a team they won the season series from in addition? The Phils had a very good offense this year also and not much hitting overall. Don't sit here and tell me sitting for 5 days has nothing to do with it. All teams should be playing within 2 to 3 days of season ending at the most period. A longer break than the all star break gives is asinine. Period

    Zach Wheeler said it best right after the London series: "not sure what it was, but something changed in the clubhouse".
    I have always been an opponent of MLB teams playing outside of North America, and we really seen a decline with our Phils, when they went to London.
    We were *fucking* absolutely dominating baseball before that series, and basically became a .500 team after that series. While I don't think we were going to play .680 ball all year long, something changed drastically from that series, and it did not go in our favor.

    To our beloved Phillies and to all Philly fans; far and wide, paid and unpaid,
    A humbling experience(s) and starting over is not necessarily a bad thing. WE have the wherewithal to go all the way! WE can do this!
    A shout-out is well deserved to all of the most marvelous hometown commentators this side of the Mississippi! You are a valuable team, as well. Thank you sooooo very much! These games would not be half as enjoyable without your expertise, insight and loyalty to the thrilling game of baseball and for our beloved Phillies, of that I am certain.
    I am one with a fresh set of eyes. Quite frankly, I could never understand the zeal fans possess in rooting for their favorite sports' team. Now within the past few months, I have become one of those fascinated fans; i.e., yelling at the TV and at the same time reassuring my 'kids' that they didn't do anything wrong. I'm simply watching the Phillies play.
    Please forgive my naivete. I haven't been around long enough to develop a tainted view of the whole picture. All I see is the ENORMOUS TALENT and the GENUINE CAMARADERIE within the Phillies team which is not to be taken for granted. Let's take heed of the lessons learned, and let go of the past in order to move forward to be victorious; one game at a time. WE can do this!!
    Thank you for reading to the end. Actually, this is not the end but the BEGINNING of a NEW ERA for our beloved Phillies!
    Love you! Thank you to each and everyone of you in whatever capacity you may hold or wish to hold; for all of your hard work and/or dedication in experiencing the wonderful, exciting world of baseball.
    The following is an excerpt from 'Daily Prayers for Strength':
    Dear God,
    Thank You for bringing us a new day filled with hope, potential and ENDLESS POSSIBILITIES.
    Please help us to overcome the negative thoughts or behaviors that hinder our progress. Did I mention that WE can do this?!!
    P.P.S. As previously stated, I am a novice. Casty is my favorite player. Don't boo him again! And, the Phillies don't suck. Like what's wrong witchyou.
    Like Kody Clemens says...

If you look at the Texas Rangers last year or even the Arizona Diamondbacks there’s no way that those two teams were in the top five or six most talented but yet they both made it to the World Series And I look at the Mets right now and I just see a ton of chemistry. It’s like everyone is on the same page in the same chapter and in the same book and whether you like them or not, it’s awesome that comes together for any team, but obviously it’s better if it happens for your team, but I’m beginning to think that talent alone will not get you there.

    The biggest problem with the Phillies hitters is their absolute inability to adjust their approach. They got off to a red hot start. Major league teams are pretty good. Other team around the league watched video and starting pitching the Phillies out of the zone. Phillies hitters kept swinging at bad pitches for 3 months and were eliminated from the playoffs. They never adjusted to the leagues adjustments. That’s both on the hitting coach and the players. You can be overly aggressive at the plate and the other teams around the league took notice.

    Something happened after that blown second game of the London Series. It's crazy to think that ONE of 162 games could've changed the entire outcome of a season but there was some bad, bad juju after that loss. We basically played .500 ball for the rest of the year and if we had won a SINGLE series during that rough stretch against the Athletics D-bags, and Pirates, the Mets don't make the postseason. Given our cupcake schedule over the last half of the season after the ASB we should've finished with at LEAST 102-105 wins, if not more.
    We may never know what has happened in that clubhouse over the last few months but I really feel like these guys just don't like each other, and this team is honestly very unlikable. Once Rhys left it felt like clubhouse chemistry plummeted and it was only being held together because this team was on an unreal tear. But once the losing started and they couldn't get back into it, it looks like they just got complacent and gave up.
    Had they just won a SINGLE series over that awful stretch of July 12-21 or August 8-11, the NL playoffs are looking a LOT different this year, and we possibly even see a second NL Central club in the mix, like the Cubs. This year proved how a single series in the middle of the summer can make or break a season by the end.

    I told a,y one who would listen this team was flawed. Defense,depth were major holes. Tre needs to learn to play the OF plus add another. Start grooming a catcher and let Realmuto play only 4 games a week. I’m keeping Bohm fire the hitting coach. Do,t want Bergman Soto won’t happen

    why not go after soto ? kinda short sighted comment. big money is coming off the books in the next year or two. casty has 2 years left and schwarber is up after this next season, as well as realmuto finishing up his contract. we can absolutely go after soto. let ownership sit in the luxury tax for a year maybe 2 at the most. soto is 26 years old. you bring him in now during his hall of fame prime years. he helps this roster not age so fast with harper and turner. with promising young talents like crawford and aiden miller, we can let bohm walk after next season and crawford fixes our centerfield position finally. both players are on the cheap for a while. we better go after soto. players like him don't grow on trees.

      I’d say signing a guy to a 14-year, $500M+ deal is shortsighted. By 2028 they’ll already have $80M tied up between Harper, Turner, & Nola who will all be 35 yrs old. I get what you’re saying but I don’t think it’s wise to continue to hand out decade plus long, couple hundred million dollar contracts

    Typical Phillies fans style; giving zero credit to what the Mets have done since June 3, or what they did against Atlanta in the final innings to make it into the postseason, or what they did in Milwaukee in that 9th inning, or what they did with their comebacks, or the fact that they beat Philly in less than five games both in the postseason and also won 3/4 in their last regular season series. Keep blaming your team, and giving zero credit to the Mets magical season. I’ve read so many comments from the Braves/Brewers/etc and many give credit to the Mets success; but Phillies fans are always so angry…your team is loaded; u just got beat by the team that was playing hotter than you, for about, ya know, the last FOUR MONTHS!! you missed the cause it’s poor coaching and worse off the learned excuse of it’s just baseball in sports you never allow a team to learn to lose or allow an era of no accountability. collectively this enabled an environment where hitting coach failed to prepare players for what to expect and allowed scouting reports against his team to define his team. horrific and if you come to work and are allowed to fail repeatedly and aren’t given directions to fix the problem you can’t be held accountable for what occurs. large problem there train your hitters and manage and hold players accountable. you can’t allow a losing environment into your clubhouse. on the pitching side again bull pen coach destructive to every reliever in the pen. emphasis on swing and miss wears the pen down ruins the strike zone increases pitch counts. proof is every reliever moves forward and then falters away and eventually off the team time to change the coach. and as a manager surrounded by talent don’t give out superlatives until they earn it
