    United Airlines should at least include complimentary meals and build in personal IFE systems on longer domestic flights though. Especially the fact that the flight duration to Honolulu is really long.
    Anyways, I really enjoyed the informative review and interesting footages. Thumbs up! :)

      I agree. Thanks! They really need IFE on the Hawaii 777's as well as free meals in economy. It's just dumb why they don't have it in economy and they do in business.

    Very unfortunate that there is no personal IFE. That should be standard for 5+ hours. Coming from my experience, they use this same variant of the UA 777 between Chicago and Munich. Nice video!

    Holy shit... This is a desaster in service qualitiy, in my oppinion. No IFE, no food service.... what the hell are you supposed to do on a 7 hours flight?! :D I would probably never book an economy flight with UA to Honolulu :D Great report and thumbs up for those information :)

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  6 лет назад

      Thanks man, yeah United is very behind in terms of service to/from Hawaii as only the Tokyo and Newark flights are operated on planes with IFE. American and Delta have full service on their Hawaii flights with IFE and meals, actually AA's Phoenix flight and one of the Dallas flights don't have IFE since they're flown on the 757 and 767 respectively.

    I like your video, but I think it is horrible that an airline that calls itself a full service carrier can't even provide a hot meal to passengers on such a long flight. Only a US carrier would dare do something like this. I think this kind of service is embarrassing. They did however, manage to cram even more seats into that 777. I enjoyed your video, but United's long-haul service is disappointing.

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  7 лет назад +8

      Thanks. All US airlines do this stuff. United is the only airline I know of that doesn't give free meals in economy on the Hawaii flights. I'm not sure about American and Delta, but I'm sure that all 3 of them only give out snacks. I mean, Emirates and Qatar Airways flights from Doha to Dubai are only around an hour or something, and meal boxes are given on every flight!

    • @Violinvelocity
      @Violinvelocity 7 лет назад +7

      Delta does two meal services, complimentary. And we won't cram that many seats into our aircraft...

    • @ASAviation

      Really? From ATL-HNL, SLC-HNL, DTW-HNL, and MSP-HNL? That's pretty impressive! And I know they have seatback IFE on their A333's too!

  • @kurmit-ih1yn
    @kurmit-ih1yn 6 лет назад +7

    The new seats are horrible! It's hard, narrower, and they put the light and flight attendant call button on the seat so it goes off accidentally when you rest your arms on it. It's so bad that the flight attendants have to make an announcement before the flight takes off to warn passengers of accidentally pushing these buttons. no built-in screens. It's embarrassing compared to other carriers (domestic and international). The only reason why i fly United is they have a lot of flight in/out of HNL and i have a lot of miles (that i need to use up).

  • @jerrythemouse28

    6:02 In June 2019, I flew one of the United 777-200s without the IFEs on the back from HKG to SFO, the trip was 14 hours and 15 minutes long. It was so boring without the screens on the back.

    NIce video. I agreed that theres no meal service at UA and Hawaiian Airlines. I flew 9.5hr to VA from HI, the basic economy meal service, they charge it for small box meal, it wasn't great but horrible food. Recommend to eat something heavy before boarding and bring own meals after security gate. I saw a young lady bring 2 bbq burger king and ate in the boarding flight, I could smell the hamburger's bbq sauce. I told her it smell so good, I asked her why 2 big burgers? she said it helps her to relax and easy to sleep.

    UA has 10 across 777 seating on the new 77W and on the Hawaii fleet. The rest is 9 across in a 3-3-3 configuration. The 77W does have seatback screens, while the Hawaii fleet doesn't. If Trump doesn't extend the electronics ban even further, not having seatback screens isn't really a problem as these planes have wifi and in seat power. You need both of those to have good IFE without the need for seatback screens, as long as they clearly announce that one needs to have the UA app for it to work. I like the new device holder and I hope that it's possible to add it to other aircraft with those seats. I like that you can watch United movies on your phone. Its pretty neat to be able to watch long movies on short haul flights, but you probs won't finish them. Yeah, I am a UAL fanboy but im honest. :3333

    I really do enjoy watching your video! I must say that I am a bit shocked that there's no any IFE on the back of the seats in the aircraft, especially on a long-hour domestic flight like this. As I do agree with many other people who had also complained about this issue, I too think it is horrible to not have a build-in personal IFE systems and also a free complimentary meals. I'm actually gonna fly to Hawaii really soon via United (basically on the same flight as yours) so I'm hoping I could see some improvements on the IFE and also the meals. But I guess it won't be possible. Don't know yet. But other than that, I did enjoy watching your video! Thanks for uploading this video and keep up the good work!
    -Josh
    P.S. I'm also from Chicago too lol, since I realized that you said, "Happy to be back home!", or something like that, at the end of this video! That's cool.

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  7 лет назад

      Haha thanks for the comment man! Yeah it sucks that UA doesn't put IFE in their domestic 777's, when Delta flies new A330's with IFE and even though American flies their 767's that don't have seatback IFE, they are getting retrofitted soon I believe. Sadly UA won't put any IFE in the domestic 777s any time soon.

      Yeah there was just the pretzels and drinks, nothing else. I think you had the option of buying the boxes of tapas and stuff. But the only free stuff was the pretzels and drinks.

    Awesome video dude! I guess they didn't have IFE bc of the small load factor lol

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  7 лет назад

      Thanks! The reason they don't have IFE is because these 777's will be the first to be retired if UA ever gets to that point. Plus the domestic 777's were one of the first 777's ever made back in 1996-98. Small load factor has nothing to do with it.

    I get so angry when I see no hot meal even though I know they don't do it anymore. The gov should require airlines to provide hot meal on a flight over seas. Question: How did the tuna taste after sitting so long? Also, did they even offer coffee and a muffin prior to landing?

    Fantastic trip report, but man, that airport is so dated. It looks like a relic from the 60s.

    I love United for getting around the continental US, but I would never fly them long haul. There are so many better choices. No complimentary meals on an 8 hour flight? That’s criminal.

      That's United's customer code for Boeing, _22. The plane is a 777-200, but because it's delivered to UA it's a 777-222. However the 777's that United got from Continental are 777-224's because Continental's customer code was _24.

      Well in China they do serve inflight meals in domestic economy, it's the ones that the international American carriers give. The US is kinda a bit behind with this, but otherwise they have BOB food

    Really interesting... N781UA used to be a 777-222 that operated European flights. I had family members that flew this exact bird to Europe but I guess it got the new Hawaii config. Great video, I've wanted to see what the new Hawaii config looks like. I really think for Hawaii flights should get atleast a light meal service.

    • @ASAviation
      @ASAviation  7 лет назад

      cmaviation yes. All of the United 777's used to have the 2-5-2 layout I'm pretty sure. Still nowadays a Hawaii bird will probably do a flight from ORD to Frankfurt or Brussels.

    • @cmaviation5801
      @cmaviation5801 7 лет назад

      Yeah when one of my family members did it, it was in the 3-3-3 config with first,business and coach. Cool though

    • @collinparsons3363
      @collinparsons3363 7 лет назад

      UA planned to convert all the 2-5-2 777's to 3-4-3 and also transfer some of the international fleet to domestic routes due to the 789 and 77W taking over on some international routes, so either they're expanding Hawaii service, using them on domestic trunk routes (like EWR-ORD) or both.

    • @cmaviation5801
      @cmaviation5801 7 лет назад

      I did some research awhile back and as you mentioned UA did convert the rest of the non ER type 772 to the Domestic Configuration. Looks like they are expanding routes with these birds

      Jespemirates Aviation You download the app on your phone or tablet or computer and all movies and TV are Free and the app is free too

    • @pilotready8389
      @pilotready8389 6 лет назад

      Jespemirates Aviation They removed IFE because they didn’t have enough selections for people to watch, so they added the new ‘United Private Screening’, which gives you a better variety of TV shows and movies. It’s way easier and it’s free because the United app is free. You used to pay for the IFE for entertainment. In my opinion, the Private Screening is better than IFE. The only bad thing is that you need WiFi.

    • @afcgeo882
      @afcgeo882 5 лет назад

      Pilot Ready no. IFE is still there, but now it streams to your device and it was NOT because of a lack of programming... you still have the sane programming bring streamed now. What they had taken out were the PTVs. Those TV screens and the entertainment boxes are heavy when you consider how many seats there are. People nowadays like to watch on their own phones, tablets and laptops anyway. They have lots of charge ports.
