Hey ! I am a pilot and to answer a couple of your questions there.
1- ETOPS is a certification which allows airlines to fly on a single engine even with the loss of the other over large water bodies. the 777 can conveniently do this for 3 hours (when the plane first got certified), today the 777 is rated for over 5 hour ETOPS. Meaning 5 hours safely it can fly with the just one engine operative.
2- We aren't taught how to land on water, but we are taught how to ditch. Landing on water is tricky considering the aeroplane has to be well configured, the waves are always a possibility and a lot of things need to be taken into consideration. A water landing will only be done if both the engines flame out and we really don't have an airport to glide. Losing both engines on a plane like the 777, the probability is almost nil, considering the safety drills and certifications it goes through. That being said, should it happen, pilots are trained to bring it down safe.
Thx a lot for your feedback! What aircraft do you fly?
It’s just funny how most of the aircraft to Hawaii and 737/A320 sized planes. Which idk how I feel about that when it comes to how small it is. Over 2 and half hours of water.
Putinisgood why? It’s safe.
Putinisgood turbulence makes flying funner. Also turbulence don’t take planes down... yea that be a long flight if it was bad turbulence but would made it fun.
Putinisgood also if it wasn’t safe millions of people wouldn’t be flying... or thousands of planes flying right now.
We also took this exact plane on this same route in May of 2017. Enjoyed it very much. I had never seen such an expansive cabin up to that point.
I really appreciated the historical footnotes on this 777 and the now retired United 747's. Also, I have to agree with you about the aesthetic beauty of the 747. A very nice video.
I've watched hundreds of trip reports, and I have to say, I really enjoyed yours. I almost felt hypnotized in how you capture your footage, as well as, provide interesting facts within each shot. BTW.. beautiful day to be flying! LOVED every min of this video!
I’m glad you like my 747! But we’re not trained to land on water. Just some guidance on how to successfully do so in our various publications. We do have ditching checklists, however. I’ve landed 747’s there at PHNL many times!
Damn.... 2-4-2 layout.... I didn’t even know that EXISTED in business class. Smh... 🤦♂️
AA used a 2-3-2 layout in business class for years on the 777
Even British Airways uses a staggered 2-4-2 layout in Business class. Smh indeed
But ba has a better soft product than United
It’s more or less lie flat domestic first class. Those planes fly very domestic services
and i thought the 2-3-2 old configuration on emirates is weird enough...
To answer your question at 13:41 if pilots are trained to land on water or not. I have been flying since the age of 15 years old with a flight instructor, now being a ATP rated pilot flying widebody and narrow body aircraft, before that flying small Cessna's and Falcons as a corporate pilot, flying for a total of 17 years now. I have had many different training levels over the years and I will do my best to explain to you what we are trained and not trained to do.
First off (Commercial Pilots) are required to train on their company simulators approximately every nine (9) to twelve (12) months. During these sessions we are presented with a host of situations from what we call "Plain Vanilla" or just "Vanilla" emergencies like, engine failures, wind shear, two engine loss at high and low altitudes and even hydraulic failure from minor to total failure.
We are also given emergencies scenarios that give us the chance to explore the full capabilities of the aircraft we pilot like, aircraft fires, problems with the aircraft structure, high speed descents, losing all engines on take-off as well as a few others.
Now when it comes to water landings (AKA Water Ditching) our Company does train us on the parameters of Emergency Ditching. Are we given any specific scenarios other than basic engine failure, that leads up to the water landing? No. Unfortunately we are not. When it comes to a safe landing on the water, I really don't like to say it like this, but it all is in the hands of the experience of your PIC or (Pilot In Command).
I hope these answered your questions and if you have anymore questions please feel free to contact me at anytime.
GOD BLESS!!!!

Born in Honolulu and raised in Hilo, Chances of going back to live, slim and non due to the cost of living. Great video and enjoy your channel more than any others. Keep it real like you do.
long knight I pray that Hawaiian people get there land back
I've never seen an airline having seats facing backwards. I find that awkward. I can't sit backwards because I'll get motion sickness. I feel you when flying over body of water, it is so nervousing.
My favorite aircraft? The 747! I’m flying to Seoul in a couple of weeks on one of the very last Delta 747 flights.
That was enjoyable... I can hardly wait to see the review on hotels next week. Wish you all the strength needed to film further. Thank you sir, well done!
Thanks for putting this video together. We're going to be on this type of plane on the SFO to HNL route soon and I wanted to give my family an idea of what the set up would be like. You've captured it very well.
Enjoy your trip!
Check out Hawaiian Air before you go with UA.
I was on the same flight but sat in economy. You didn't see one passenger got beat up by 2 flight attendants and they called him, "disruptive and belligerent."
Your videos are one of the most informative videos I've seen. Very interesting and very professional-like camera panning. Great work! Thank you!!!
thank you !!!
That seating arrangement is horrible!
I had the same feeling. i'm flying first class on united with my mom to oregon tonight... talk about a nightmare....
NO_EYES_ON_ME ⒾⓀⓇ
@@thememechannel5744 you spoiled bitch should be grateful that you can fly first. That's still a million times better than economy.
@@gccstan31 Wow, talk about rude!
@@theswordguy5269 lol how was that rude?
My favourite aircraft? The one that takes off and lands safely.
Haha wtf they all do dumbass
Sebastian Quinn “chill the fuck down” - Sebastian 2019 😂😂
So basically all aircrafts.
They will kick you out from the aircraft~~
I prefer one that I didn't have to jump out of...
If this is the oldest United 777, then I sat in the pilots seat when they delivered it in Seattle. I am the first civilian poser to sit in the left seat of a 777.
What a milestone man
wooooow great to see this ac around ! I was flying her 10 years ago... this B772 has PW4070 engines like all early model 772 non ER/LR versions... :-) only the ex Continental 772/ER in the UA fleet are these with the GE90 from General Electric :-)
Great Video. Thank you for posting. B747 is my favorite plane.
Very cool perspective :) Learned lots about the planes we frequently fly on. Never really thought about them. Thank you for sharing :)
Great video,I like this 777 flight to HNL,looks like good service.Photography was excellenr, good job!
because of your video, i just moved our seats from 2K/2L to 4K/4L for my flight to Hawaii in May. The privacy thing was a great callout, especially on the overnight flight home. Thanks for the video and great advice!
Same here 😂
What a really nice flight! United is doing a great job and I love flying with them.
It is also nice seeing Hickam AFB when flying in to there...Thank you again for your trips...
couldn't agree more...B747 is the most beautiful plane ever built.
I really like your videos! thanks for providing us with some useful informations :-)
Wow, what a sorry excuse for a first class cabin! But what a treat flying on the grand old lady of the fleet. Sorry your nerves were so bad on this flight. But please don't stop traveling and taking me along for the ride.
Nice trip report. It's cool to fly on the first passenger 777
Hats off to u very nice videos n your knowledge about the places n geography i felt as if i have travelled
I just signed up today, I found you on You Tube. I like your editing style, and your use of music. I'm going to really enjoy your channel. Keep the great videos coming!
Thank you, Dave. Safe travels!
You got wonderful shots of O'ahu, especially the windward side. Nani nui! (Beautiful!)
I put the fear of flying out of my mind because up there, if anything goes wrong, there’s nothing you can do, nothing. That gives me peace of mind and somehow relaxes me. Giving up control over things can be a comfort surprisingly. And catastrophic crashes, there’s no pain when you land, it’s instantaneous. I know exactly what to do if anything like that happens, hug my daughter and tell my wife I love her. Everything else is out of my control. I know kind of morbid thinking, but it helps to take the pressure off myself. I don’t worry about the flight, I try to live my life on board, minute by minute.
Planes are not dangerous at all. Even if there is an engine failure, the plane can still fly on one engine. If anything goes wrong, which is extremely unlikely, there is almost always a procedure for it that allows for it to be fixed. Just remember that the most dangerous part of flying is driving to and from the airport.
I love the facts you put into your videos, thank you so much keep up the good work!
Great video.....the information you gave really made it wonderful. Thanks
I love the way you represent the video. So many information.
I witnessed when this “oldest” B777 first laded at SFO on a ferry flight from Seattle, Washington in 1995!!! As an AvGeek, I drove to Burlingame near SFO International Airport, parked my car at the Marriott Hotel’s parking lot and waited for it to land. I will never forget that day!!!
N777US has two Pratt 4077s. United has traditionally been a huge Pratt and Whitney supporter and most of their fleet had them - 777s, 747s, etc. With GE and Rolls assuming a more dominant role in the engine space and Pratt suffering from several sub par performances over the past few years, there are fewer Pratts in United's fleet.
I agree about the Queen of the skies! It’s my favourite as well 😉. I’m thrilled every time I get to fly it on Lufthansa.
Lufthansa fleet are awesome planes especially the queen of the skies ✈✈✈✈
Most excellent. Seeing a high density 777. As always your videos are great. I loved seeing the 747's.
The 747-8I are pretty sweet. I once got upgraded on a Lufthansa flight, impressive.
"The Luxury Travel Expert" is the top most 5 Star (⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐) informative channel on Flights and Hotel/Resorts.
Nice flight. Thanks for taking me to Hawaii.
I flew on that plane and same flight number in 2016... I will be flying next week to HNL on same flight number SFO-HNL, but it will be on a 777-300....great video
Lovely video! I love how you put facts in this vid, I have learnt a lot from you :D
Really enjoy your channel i actually flew to Hawaii when my aunt lived there and she took me to a parking lot by the airport where you could watch all types of planes take off and land it was amazing
Fantastic brother nice video
ALways enjoy your videos. Looking forward to the next one. I plan to go to Hawaii this winter.
Most likely PW engines, GE90's don't sound like that haha. Great vid!
That and this is probably a regular -200, and ge90s are on the -200LR and -300ER.
I love the 767-332ER with Delta.
Love the 2-3-2 in economy.
First love was the L1011 also with DELTA
What amazing take off views, you were so lucky!
That United 777 interior looks just like the one that took us back from Frankfurt to SFO.
Nice video. Planning a trip there after our jabs. We plan to do IAD > SFO, SFO > HNL, HNL > LAX and LAX > IAD and stay in SFO and LAX a couple days and six days in HNL. the HNL > LAX flight is a redeye and we plan to get First Class for that flight. Looking forward to it.
Thinking about plane crashes makes you even scarier. I also had the same problem when I was in kindergarten. I loved watching air crash investigation series and on the next day, I flew on an airplane to Busan. As I approached to Busan airport, there was a part of ocean which reminded me the video I watched the day before. In situations like 13:51, try to not think about air crashes. Being careful is good but when you become too careful, that will be a phobia. I recommend to take short flights like Brussels to London that has just a small part of sea. I also got rid of my phobia by fliying from Seoul to Jeju island which only has small parts of sea.
Wow, I love ur videos they a r very satisfying to see
very nice and informative video.
great video !!!!
I love the 777... btw at 5:05, those aircraft landing are actually a Boeing 757 and 737. You can tell by the winglets and four wheels on the main gear carriage. I only know that because I work the ramp for a living. ;)
Love the video. My favorite aircraft is the B747 because love being on the top desk
Very detailed video thank you.
Great video thank you!
Great annotations!
Also to make you feel better, the 777 which is ETOPS, can go at least 2.5 hours on one engine to safely land. So you're fine on the way to Hawaii!
I like the placement of your music; right where it should be,
Thank you for a beautiful flight. I"m flying from NY to Honlulu soon and I'm a bit scared.
This is very good holiday....We are looking forward next trip....
Nice coverage
The oldest B777 in service at the time of your video being posted is CX's B-HNL. It was delivered on June 1994 as a demonstrator N7771, then to CX in year 2000 until its retirement in June 2018.
Love the video and music. Reminds me of my trip to Hawaii
Nice Video - thanks!
I'm new to your channel and I LOVE your videos!
Thank you for being a follower!
This aircraft is powered by Pratt and Whitney PW4000...you can distinguish a PW engine from a GE engine merely by the nose cone marking....the PW has either a white circle (some GE engines such as the CF6 has this) or straight white line like that, and the GE-90 has a semi spiral white marking on the nose cone.
Thx for the info 👍
Great video report, especially as it's really hard to make an internal flight interesting. Loved all the extra facts.
I think the most beautiful aeroplane was Concorde, but the 747 is my second favourite.
As for the A380, it's very pleasant to fly aboard ...
Excellent video!
Well done 👏🏻
Good editing 👍
very nice vid!
I was able to experience the return flight in seat 4A. Not a posh as an international flight, but still very relaxing way to fly. Awesome vid.
Yes pilots are trained to land on water via flight simulators.
Back in the 1970s, I flew as a Director of Passenger Service for Continental. I used to fly weekends...Saturday = LAX-HNL-LAX and Sunday the same thing. When passengers asked me if I was concerned about flying over the water, I would tell them we couldn't possibly land in the ocean because our uniforms weren't wash and wear! When I flew, our aircraft were either three engine DC-10 or four engine 747. When I was flying with family a short time ago, I was asked what "ETOPS" meant. Rather than the real meaning, I just said, "Engines Turn Or Passengers Swim."
What's the real meaning?
Another wonderful video. Hawaii looks marvelous!! 🌴🌊🌊🌅. Why would you ever leave?! You might try essential oils for your anxiousness. 🙂 Remember, any landing you walk away from is a good landing!! Cheers!
used to fly united 747 back and forth from HNL - LAX in the 70s. frequently flights were way under full so one could layout on the center seats in back ahh the good old days lol
Hawaii Loves Art I remember that. Back then the seats were wider too. As much as it’s great that everyone can fly now, it saddens me that first class now is how economy used to be treated and being able to have the row all to yourself is few and far between.
When I saw the tail number of the 777 you were riding, I wondered if you knew that 2477 is in fact the first 777 to enter commercial service, and then you captioned it in your video! It's pretty exciting. I live on Guam so this 777 cycles through here once in a while and I have had the pleasure of riding on it between GUM and NRT and HNL several times already; imagine my excitement! Also being from GUM, I have no choice but to fly over the vast Pacific (it really is vast, isn't it?) so I find your fear/phobia so interesting because you have flown the world over! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Very nice to e-meet here someone from the exotic island Guam! Have you ever traveled on the United Airlines Island Hopper B737 ?
Very nice video.
You did great flying over the pond! Thanks for the video! Now I know to avoid the 2-4-2 seats! It’s a coach seat that lies flat! 😕
Great commentaries on aircrafts and great review overall. That 2-4-2 F though...that’s almost criminal...
Thanks for the great video! I have been flying as a passenger for 35 years and will be taking my first trip to Honolulu in June 2018 for my birthday....I am hoping that there is not much turbulence going or returning home to San Francisco. I just returned from a conference in Denver and the flight was so bumpy.....I am still a little nervous.
Enjoy your holiday in Honolulu!
My favorite plane is the 777-300 ER. Beautiful aircraft especially with the Qatar livery. Great video per usual!
These are the pratt and whitney engines. You can tell because the spinny thing in the middle of the turbofan with the white markings (idk the actual term for it) is rounded, whereas the GE ones are pointed
did that route on that plane in May coming back from honeymoon! we stayed at the andaz a week and a condo in lahaina another week then a few days at the Hyatt place in Honolulu. amazing place!
I have stayed at the Andaz as well. Brilliant hotel! I will upload my hotel clip soon :)
Jesus, I love flying so much omg. My favorite airline is US Airways, and your United Airlines. The big Airbus and Boeing planes r just huge 😊
Nice video 😄
MD-11 is probably my favourite aircraft :)
love ur videos and my favorite aircraft is a380 best one :)
Always thumbs @paulstewart I always enjoy ur videos
so sad no more 747 ty for the video RR :)
Really thank you for this review , according to your question regarding favorite airplane , I prefer A380 and B777-300 ER
being from the UK I can remember going to Heathrow airport to see the inaugural arrival of the first united 777 - Washington/Heathrow I believe - I am guessing it was this aircraft - good memories. Back then it was possible to have access to the roof of terminal 1 so plane spotting was awesome, sadly no more. Really enjoy all your vids.
Thank you, Simon, for your kind comment. You should travel to Amsterdam or Zurich for some great plane spotting.
So sad that that that 744 is now either in VCV, or scrapped. If only UA save one.
I have a feeling I have viewed this marvellous trip report before. Thank you. How did you enjoy the backward facing seat? I last experienced this many years ago on a Vickers Viscount. I hope you have been able to overcome your fear of flying over water. My best wishes to you and for a marvellous Holiday Season.
My favorite aircraft is the old DC-10. My mother and I flew aboard a DC-10 when we flew from Chicago to Los Angeles when I was 15 years old.
