The Phantom is not just a future classic. Its one of the cars that you'll be showing to your grandchildren when you take them to a motor museum, and explaining them what a combustion engine is and why we used to love it so much
why so ? if we are talking about museums then there are much more interesting cars out there beside this overpriced car. all specs are quite "regular" and nothing really special.

Extended wheel base suits it a lot better, buying a standard wheel base makes it look like you couldn't afford the ewb and you haven't worked hard enough.

Welp, I've got a chance to drive and be chauffeured in the Phantom multiple times. I hope the redesigned replacement model doesn't disappoint because I loved the Phantom the way it is.

"The best" is quite subjective. Ever been stuck in a Phantom on the side of the road while the V-12 is overheating because the car is too complicated for its own good?

Closest thing I've driven to this car is either a Town Car or a 2006 era BMW 7-series or Lexus LS, have you driven either of these? If so how do they compare to the Rolls driving experience? I'd honestly like to know to get a rough idea cause I'll likely never get my hands on a Phantom.
MAN_ON_WHEELZ its way way streets ahead of anything I've driven or been a passenger in regarding luxury. I think the closest was the Maybach 62 but as you know they didn't last long!

MIAthe305 ....you are 100% correct, I drive for a living as a chauffeur in England the S class, AMG, Audi, BMW 7Series, Maybach, and the Rolls Royce Phantom is in a different league to them, and been made by BMW I never known of one breaking down. The wealthy especially from abroad, including young artists would find it an insult to be picked up by no other car, except your USA President who brings his own Cadillac (the Beast) with him.
Ever since Volkswagen bought Rolls Royce they have brought the brand into the the twenty first century with its impressive engines which are as refined as they are powerful and made them the classiest brand around and it all started with the phantom

Honestly, the Phantom reminds me of a set of a spaghetti western. Looks decent on the outside but when one delves under the skin, it's cheap and poorly constructed. Under those lovely wood veneers is cheap plastic and plastic that's chrome plated.
Never liked working on these things. They drove alright, they'd float around like a 70s Cadillac though. For my money, I'd stay with a classic Roller. They're not as nouveau-riche and surprisingly as reliable (that isn't saying a lot).
Charles Wellington lll - The big problem, at least here in the states, is getting the proper mineral oil and seals. The gas spheres aren't hard to come by.
I think working on an old one is half experience, half having the correct service manual and wiring diagram for your exact VIN number range. There were so many variations from year to year (especially electrically) that it's easy to screw something up.

Looks like he's driving a lot faster than the 40mph blanket speed limit on some roads in the New Forest in southern England where this was filmed. Lovely part of England though and suits this car.

The Phantom is showing its age, but it still looks impressive and dignified. I just hope the successor retains the great naturally aspirated V12. If they embrace carbon fiber, the Phantom successor should be substantially lighter and thus not need any more power.

I actually like this gens interior more luxurious than the new phantom , this is the absolute traditional luxury , the new onne feels kinda plasticy compared to this.

It doesn't share its platform with any BMW. All new Rolls-Royce's, Phantom onwards, have their own aluminium architecture specific to the brand.
Very cool. I actually like the first generation drophead before they changed the lights up on the newer one, it looked meaner. I'm sad they won't continue it though, it does the beautiful "leaned back" stance, which the dawn does not do.
This car is the automotive embodiment of snobbery. If it was built by any other car maker, it would be called the ugliest car ever designed, but, since it's made by RR, it's referred to as being imposing, even vulgar, in good sense, like that would be possible!

I never liked the phantom, I always thought the Ghost and later the Wraith looked much better. Though the later versions looked much better.

Adam Gil the old Maybach is far longer, wider and taller than the S-class even though the chassis was based on the old S-class.
Spend some time inside both of them poking around... The Rolls is far more subtle and more dignified... Why do you see the old Maybach as the superior car? (Obviously the world's wealthy car buyers didn't).
Cameron Cooper for starters, the Maybach actually have reclining seats and enough legroom to recline.
My friend just bought the new S class, I was a little under whelmed by it, compared to the old S class... Not as comfy, hope the maybach is nicer inside.
