  • The name Rolls-Royce defines luxury, and the Rolls-Royce Phantom is the pinnacle of Rolls' own range. Subscribe now: smarturl.it/aut...
    This £360,000 luxury saloon is the king of wafting. There's more than 130kg of soundproofing, the interior is lined with hectares of leather, carpets thick enough to tickle your ankles, and whatever kinds of trim you can dream up.
    Power comes from a 6.75-litre, twin-turbocharged V12 whose power is entirely secondary to the huge reserves of torque, developed so low down in the rev range that you hardly need to put any effort in to get imperious cruising potential.
    Join us as tests the new Rolls-Royce Phantom and decides whether it's still the most luxurious car on the planet.

      probably cost reducing...honestly, this brand is not doing well at all.
      If they don't do some market research and go find a fucking audience for their cars and come up with something new they are gonna go broke pretty soon.
      I'd say they should invest in huge suv hatchback style cars that are designed to have no body roll and designed to be like their current cars, cocooning the owner in luxury, while also(like most other brands) have more high end tech in them.

    It's quite good that it's peak power doesn't engage until 5,000RPM means you have to give it a good throttling to get it going. That will appeal to the younger rich people. And the early torque will appeal to the older rich people lol. They've done a great job with that car. And I'm glad it's not just a 7 series with a skirt on.

    I recall, many years ago when electric windows were first introduced to cars, there were several accidents with children getting their fingers trapped and injured by the windows until manufacturers installed a system whereby the window would stop if anything impeded it's progress, ie a childs fingers etc. Regarding those self closing doors on the Phantom. Do they have a safety system to prevent fingers getting trapped and injured? Be interesting to know.

    • @HesteBremse
      @HesteBremse 7 лет назад +3

      What type of design reflection do you build your opinion on?; towards Modern Aesthetics or in comparison to the former model or to older classics of the brand or the general DNA of Rolls-Royce or perhaps you have some market insights to why certain design choices where made they way they are ???.
      Can you specify what exactly it is that makes it look awkward in those angles you are mentioning? In fact I have not heard anybody else even commenting on the exterior design in the way that you do - that does not make it wrong or right - But certainly it would be nice with some design insights to backup your view.
      The awkwardness that you see, appears to be pretty far from obvious in comparison to e.g. The Bentley Bentayga concept a few years back - of which nearly everybody had immediate dislikes towards with no deeper explanations for many parts
      I guess you are not a student of automotive design, since otherwise your comment would have been quite more substantial and precise in its critique - but correct me if I´m wrong on that part.

    • @gianhet
      @gianhet 7 лет назад +3

      The rear and the front dont really match together all that well, the rear looks a bit too nimble and low, and the front a bit too massive and large, also the headlights are a tad too big, and small details like that all adding together doesnt make it look as smooth as it could be.
      Then again, I've never been a fan of modern RRs designs, but this one is especially awkward to me.
      Ofc this is only my opinion, but pause at 3:45 for instance, it doesnt look attractive at all to me.
      Then again i can be really picky when it comes to car designs :)

    • @TheKostick

    • @lapamful

      Totally agree. I just wrote something similar.
      The RR looks best in London (or other European cities) where you have all those beautiful buildings and great architecture. Not really a countryside cruiser. I think RR should make a GT model that would look more comfortable in natural surroundings.

    This is indeed more than a car. It is a luxury item.

    How... how is this a "review"? You say that it's quiet 18 times, show NOTHING of ANY of the features and drive around at 35 mph for the entire duration.
    This is the most low-effort video I've ever seen about a 400-grand car.

    • @gianhet
      @gianhet 7 лет назад +4

      Rolls Royces arent about the features tho, they've always been significantly less technologically equipped than S classes for instance, they're about a car being as comfortable, quiet and upmarket it can be. Which is why it was reviewed that way.

    • @Mmmmilo
      @Mmmmilo 7 лет назад +8

      First of all that's utter nonsense. Second of all, he doesn't even review the back seat. Thirdly, you don't get to dictate how interesting the tech in the car is. I've never seen a review so devoid of content.

Since Autocar had the opportunity to drive it and spend time in it I assume you could share thoroughly the Phantom experience, showing the interior and its features. I mean, 99% of people watching this video won't have to opportunity to seat in one. The review was okay but I felt you could go into more detail instead of only narrating what you were feeling while driving.

      derbigpr500 it's not plastic, that steering is wrapped round in leather, there is chrome round the inner part for all the controls and piano black wood as well. The only area with plastic is the gear lever stalk at the bottom end and the plastic covering where the indicator controls,.wiper and gear stalk are housed which is same for every single car in the world.

      Honestly as far as super high end luxury goes, i DEFINITELY think they should be electric. Instant torque, no sound or fumbling with gears and the weight of batteries will not make a difference. I think it would be absolutely badass. That said, I LOVE V12's! But thats why we have Lamborghini, aston, etc.

    • @HesteBremse
      @HesteBremse 7 лет назад +4

      A electric concept has been considered for RR, think it was about 2-3 years back - but what happened to the idea idk.
      At some point when fast charging becomes far more accessible and range much further, then I am sure we will see a RR Ev - cause it makes very good sense to all the other parameters of a RR as pointed out already in this thread.

    If I was entrusted to drive a car like that I would have both hands on the steering wheel and keep my eyes on the road.

    I'd be interested to know how much money a person needs to have to just order a Phantom without any hesitation. If I could spend £400,000 on a car I'd buy a 911 Turbo S, a Range Rover Autobiography, and a motorhome, and I'd still have £75,000 left over!

    Finally the car up to the task of Matt's review style. All the shit comments when Matt is reviewing sports cars were worth the struggle of waiting for a Rolls RR

    Wonder how much that would cost in my country... Fun Fact: A Porsche Gt3 rs is close to $600,000 in Mauritius. Not a great place to live for a car enthusiast.
