      Lord mudder of God hwere does this guy get all this money from to buy a 300 k car!? What is wrong with the 2003 phantom, which actually has more character, and a more solid look, for say 80 grand. And how much money does this Harry make from this channel!!!!?

      @@jackthompson361 Test driving them doesn't mean he owns them. I doubt the money to buy them would be achieved on a youtube channel either, even with a 1/4 mill subscribers.

    Harry could actually own one of these if he wanted to, so his perspective is more critical than that of most automotive journalists, who tend to be overwhelmed by the car. His observation that the new Phantom's ride is not as good as his old-model Rolls mirrors my experience in the current Jaguar XJ. My old (2001) XJR rides substantially better. The culprit on the new-generation luxury cars is big wheels wearing very low profile tires. Tires play a vital role in absorbing road impacts, and low-profile tires are lousy at doing this. But they are the fashion and appearances are important in this market.
    In his speed bump segment Harry is underwhelmed, which makes me wonder how well the car's road-detecting cameras actually prepare the suspension for upcoming irregularities. On the back roads there seems to be no evidence of the nav system anticipating upcoming hills and turns and shifting gears accordingly. At least, Harry didn’t mention it. He did, however, comment that the suspension's travel limits were easily reached, a bit of a surprise. And rather shockingly, on the freeway the car wouldn’t track straight - the steering needed constant correction. This is a mortal sin for any luxury car, and unacceptable for this one.
    On the plus side, the Phantom's presence is unmatched in the industry. The quality of materials and construction suit the price. The manufacturer extracts amazing fuel efficiency without compromising performance.
    In the back seat . . . Harry should know that a limo passenger always sits on the curb side. That is why the front passenger seat can be moved out of the way. Space seems adequate for the standard-wheelbase car, but no more. The necessary amenities are in place without going overboard as Mercedes do with the Merc-Maybach. The on-screen entertainment/navigation features are the most sophisticated I’ve seen on any car.
    I’ve learned more about this car from Harry's review than from all the other reviews combined. He demystifies the Phantom and evaluates it as a car, not as a Rolls. Once again Harry comes through for us non-wealthy motorheads.

      I should imagine the reason why the front passenger seat goes forward is due to the distinct lack of a driver.

      That's Harry's opinion, I'm sure a Rolls Royce representative could chop his opinion up, you can separate this car from a Rolls, it's not a car it's a Rolls Royce not even Harry can deminish a automobile that's made of the highest standards and quality, and performance in the automotive world, the automobile is simply beautyl in motion, the Mona Lisa of the automotive world, comparing it to any other automobile of less stature is insulting, it's worse than comparing first class travel on a air plane to coach traveling.I would take this automobile before I would take anything in Harry's garage, people have literally lost control of their vehicle on the highway looking at when it passes them by because they are captivated by the sheer beauty of it.

      I like how he's honest to the point of actual British comedy. Like, he almost bottomed out on those bumps and all he had to say was "Oh, dear..". Somehow, that said it all.
      And with those parking cameras, most people would just be amazed by it and praise it as an amazing feature and he was just "I'm not sure why you'd need it, but cool" :)))

    • @AB-80X
      @AB-80X 6 лет назад +10

      It's rather refreshing, yes. It's nothing like that Shmee guy. I don't know if he's afraid that a car company will not let him test, if he has not got the first clue about cars, or if he in fact is so easy to impress and that he's always just in it for the brand and a bit of a brown nose. That guy always raves on about how great every luxury car he test is, rather than providing the viewers with a proper honest review. And then there's his horrid squeaky voice...
      Harry, James May and VBH, are definitely some of the best UK motoring journalists.

    • @samcameronberko
      @samcameronberko 6 лет назад +4

      Sorry but I have to disagree. Shmee (and most of the other reviewers) drove it like it's intended and Harry drove it like a hooligan. If you road tested a Lambo' and complained that it didn't waft around country roads and was loud and had crap fuel economy would you class that as an 'honest review'?
      You 'test' something against what it's intended use is and what it's advertised to do. If it falls short of that then you should criticise.
      A Rolls Royce cannot defy the laws of physics and driving over bumps at that speed and expecting anything other than some reaction from the car is unrealistic. Sit in the back and have someone drive over the bump at a reasonable speed and the Rolls will waft over it - like it's designed to.

    • @mendesrui
      @mendesrui 6 лет назад +5

      Driving smoothly over bumps is a real use case for RR, and I do agree with Harry that its a bit disappoiting. Just not long ago, Audi A8 released the Ai Active Suspension, that deals perfectly with bumps. RR should have at least do as well as they do.

    • @MuhammadKharismawan
      @MuhammadKharismawan 6 лет назад +8

      Sam Cameron-Berko nah not really, he even already given examples that his Much Older RR, the Silver Shadow with its Citroën suspension would take that bumps and dynamic Road better, that's a 60YO tech there.
      Yes the new Phantom beats it in its silent cabin definitely, but Road quality seems to be lacking for one that has cars with better experience.

    Not sure how many drivers sit down in a Roller and start talking about 4 point racing harnesses! Love your insight and content Harry. Great stuff as always. Glad you are going for quality over quantity. Makes each one something to savour. What an exquisite motor car, even if not a perfect one. Some aspects of the looks are maybe not me, but then as I'm not the target audience, that probably means it's perfect for purpose! Hi TMF! I never knew you were a car man too. Ironically I am watching this in July 2024 as I am rather tempted to buy a Phantom from this (ish) year. Like you I love motorcycles, but I reckon I have one more 'big car purchase' left in me before I retire and before petrol engine cars are banned, and the Phantom tops my list. I did previously own a Rolls Royce Ghost which is also an incredible car, but there's just something about the Phantom..I guess it's like your Honda Gold Wing, there's just nothing else quite like it.

When I was fourteen years old, I was involved in a traffic accident, that resulted in me losing my left leg, and damage to my right knee, that seriously impaired/reduced, the 'flexion' in that knee. In your video, when you are sitting in the rear seat, it looks like you don't really have a great deal of legroom. Is it possible to increase the rear seat legroom from the rear seat?

      Really? I thought people would be gushing over the deep blue this Rolls has. I quite like it, because it gives the interior uniqueness, while staying formal. I would probably change the exterior two-tone to something more like a deep red, think Merlot, or maybe the cherry color as a throwback to their earlier models. Warm colored exteriors with cool colored interiors are my favorite!

      Integral blue hide looks fantastic on a luxury car. What I don't like is two-tone leather interiors and equally those (thankfully optional) wooden slabs stuck to the front seats. One detail I dislike about RR is the fact that the steering wheel center cap is always black when you pick a coloured combo.

      Shmee 150 is an absolute joke. He knows zip about cars, except for spewing out random horsepower and torque figures. He's extremely egocentrical and his content is not very well produced, he focuses on quantity much more than on quality. This shows through his ratings, he'll get 200 000 views in the time that someone with actual quality content like Doug demuro gets 1 000 000.
      I wish people like Harry, who for me is undeniably the best car reviewer on RUclips would get more appreciation instead of the Logan Paul style car vloggers such as shmee, Salomondrin and vehicle virgins

      Crazy for anyone to spend that money on a new phantom. The 2003 Phantom looks way more solid, due to more chrome, heavier detailed styling. You can pick up a 2003 Phantom in the UK from around 75 grand. A 2003 model in the same colour would have just as much presence, if not more. Moreover they ride a lot better!

    Characteristically honest and unsycophantic Harry review thank you. A very clever car, but more bling than imperiousness and the huge gizmo count means it won't be much fun to run reliably on a shoestring when it depreciates to the point of real world buying one affordability. Nearly as good on country roads as an ancient Shadow to boot. No sale!

    Great review, Harry. But, not my kind of car (esp at 468k)...too much high-cost and complicated frippery. Powered doors, tray tables and screens? The Gallery? Starlight headliner? No, thanks.
    The active ride control should be more proactive and controlled, too much lean in corners. And, why does BMW/Rolls insist on run-flat tires plus the extra engineering to compensate for them? Think of the replacement cost (peasant thinking, here). Really odd....
    On another note: are you planning any more car or bike trips to the south of France? Those videos were incredible...

      The run flat tyres are a key feature for the customer of this car. Security matters if you are paranoid and live in the USA with the gun-nuts. Or if you are a dictator in some small oil rich third world country. Flat tyres are also not going to happen so if you care about arriving in time more than you worry about being shot then all is good.
      Everything is a compromise, in truth these cars will be travelling at an average of 9mph if in London so there is no bottoming out of the suspension happening. Internationally we all know about the roads in the USA and how those are not going to pose a problem to it. It is designed for driving in these places plus China and the Middle East, not for narrow country roads in the shires.

    • @horatiotimewaster5755
      @horatiotimewaster5755 6 лет назад

      I can see your points, but (suspension-wise) it ought to be more competent just in case someone in the shires buys one! Performance for this money should be above, not below other 'luxury' cars.

    • @aj63
      @aj63 6 лет назад

      Then RR should have a "urban shooter Spec" that customers can choose and not inflict the run-flats on all variants as standard......

    Nice review Harry. Everything about Rolls Royce seems too stuck in the past. Those chrome B and C pillars are terrible. The starry headliner was cool 10 years ago, now all luxury cars have much nicer glass roofs that provide a great feeling of openness. The nav screen and tech looks competitive with the current Honda Accord. The whole thing just seems kind of tasteless and out of date, like an old man's living room.

    Don’t you realize you are sitting in a car that was mostly built in Germany!! Engine, frame, and all metal work! This very fake car was then shipped to England to be passed off as a British built car! BMW only built factories in Germany and England to build a generic car, and paid a lot of money to put a name on it!! RIP RR 1904-1998.
