The way you just counter the downs in first 48 miles by just looking up to meet nora and ending literally every sentence by nora is what makes it more inspiring and pure bliss. Great work mate !
Fantastic job, Simon! The audio and video are particularly crisp and vibrant, and the overall production quality continues to get better. DO NOT underestimate the power of sharing this journey with your followers! This channel came to me at a time when I really needed it, and I'm confident it did for others as well. Can't wait for more content! Thank you sooo much! Nora is amazing!
I'm so happy to hear this. I'm very glad to know I can touch and help inspire others. Even if it was just 1 person, that makes it all worthwhile! The sport and the community has given me a lot, so I try to be a positive influence for others too. Running also came at the right time for me. I was in management consulting - living a really unhealthy and stressful life. Then covid hit and everyone was losing their job quickly in my firm (which for me would have also meant leaving the US, and who knows what would happen with me an Nora - we were together but not married yet). It gave me an outlet at the right time. And I want to share this with other. We all have different struggles - and ups and downs just like during a race - but this is a welcoming place, and a good place to heal.
@@runningwithsimon Thank you for sharing that about the job and being able to stay with Nora - what a gift! Looking forward to your next update on how training is going for your next event!
Simon. This was great. Almost all videos show the grit but it’s all sunny and positive. You showed us the grumpy side of running. It’s a hard truth. Pain, and ‘I just want this to be done ‘. Merci.

Hey, I see you have an ultra on July 3rd! That is the day I am running my first ultra marathon. I just ran 8 miles last Sat and 26.2 Sun, and now I have a small recovery run today and then resting and stretching until July 3rd. I am only running 38 miles, but I think your videos have helped give me a realistic view on what to expect. I started running last year, and before this year, I had only ever run a single mile at once. Your videos definitely helped encourage me to keep going and I was able to run 603 miles in the last 40 weeks to prepare for my first ultra. Thanks!
Good luck - let me know how it goes! I think mine is July 5-6, I got the date wrong when filling this calendar. Tapering myself too very soon. The race is close to home so I'll get to see my family too, which is very exciting!
You and your wife are a great inspiration to many of us. The fact you do these monthly, and sometimes more often is amazing. I am currently training for my first ultra, which is a 50K. I've done several marathons, but I am totally inspired to work my way up to a 100-mile race by the end of next year. Please keep this up, and keep sharing your race/training tips! She did great - she had to take care of me AND her. We were both struggling towards the end. That road segment was something...! The GoPro died (and the backup battery didn't work) - so not much footage sadly. Looks like the road took 2sec, but it just kept going forever...>!
That river is amazing! I drove about 2 hours each way last week to get to a river up above Ojai in the Padres National Forest, one of my favorite places to hike simply because of that river. But also that muddy section at night was just like how it felt trying to handle the overflowing rivercrossings lol. Love the Norah updates (so positive) and that MUSIC (so ominous, foreboding, scary) !!! Then, the approach to the finish line made me wonder. Has anyone ever stopped like right there, feet from the finish and just said "I can't do it!" ?
Well, out of the aid station at ~93 miles, maybe like half a mile, there was a guy passed out. Some medics were with him, and later we saw ambulance drive by. I guess heat stroke, and I guess he got the help he needed and is now fine. But yeah, I guess it can happen. Now to simply say 'F this' - I hope not lol
Oh no, I did not mean all of those horrible things to happen to people, but yeah more of just someone getting to the finish and just, for whatever reason saying “I can’t finish it, can’t end it, can’t cross the line” .. just a crazy thought but I was wondering as you were approaching if it. Anyhow - I should look more into them, really appreciate you sharing!
@@runningwithsimon I've not had a catastrophic light failure, I carry 3 light sources and only go underground with other people who also have backup lights!
Thanks. I really need rest true - but it's from work. I think it's easy from outsider's perspective to see only what you see (which is me racing), but the big item is sadly work. Which I can't exactly skip... But luckily I FINALLY have some time off next week. Still have a few work calls and email, but will be able to see family and friends.
That's right! The Vertix 2S was (unsurprisingly) better than my older watch. Doesn't mean I won't go back to garmin some day - but right now, the one I have is little older. And would be happy to run other comparison too. But in the meantime, two watches is really annoying - it really hurts my right wrist (although I guess i could with enough time get used to it). So I'll only do it when comparing head to head (e.g., I should get the APEX soon-ish, and will compare vs. Vertix)

I had one die on me (not the battery - changed the battery, still wouldn't work). That's kind of a catastrophic failure that's hard to come back from. Anyhow - I should look more into them, really appreciate you sharing!
@@runningwithsimon I've not had a catastrophic light failure, I carry 3 light sources and only go underground with other people who also have backup lights!
👍🏻
:)
Congrats but i think you need some serious rest...maybe for a few months...
Simon, didn’t bother with two watches this time? Switched to the Vertix 2S full time?
That's right! The Vertix 2S was (unsurprisingly) better than my older watch. Doesn't mean I won't go back to garmin some day - but right now, the one I have is little older. And would be happy to run other comparison too. But in the meantime, two watches is really annoying - it really hurts my right wrist (although I guess i could with enough time get used to it). So I'll only do it when comparing head to head (e.g., I should get the APEX soon-ish, and will compare vs. Vertix)
