Amazing story and incredible job. I myself got up to over 500lbs and lost over 300lbs the last 2.5 years. I’m running my first 50 miler in November and my first 100 in January. Been training hard for the past several months putting in 100 mile weeks. I’m a little nervous for the 100 but your story is super motivating.
100 miles in 30 hours. How hard can that be? HARD AS HELL! I’ve done it a few times. I’ve never heard anyone say “Well that wasn’t so bad.” Great accomplishment Jason!

Awesome job! What a support group! This is very inspiring. I'm 41 and I started at 296 a few weeks ago and I'm down to 272 now. Just jogged 3/4 mile straight for the first time in years. Thanks for this.

Man. What an inspiration. I'm 27 and I just hit 260 on the scale and decided to make a change, just like you did. I'm so glad I found this. It feels so good to know that someone else was at literally my same point and got to where you are now. Update - 08/2023 I’m nearly forty pounds down and training to run a marathon next May! Thank you for the inspiration!
Hey thanks for the kind words. I was 27 as well when I made the decision to turn things around. Great job on deciding to make a change! Reach out if I can help in any way
Sorry to step in here but that is just not possible. That would mean you lost 22 lbs per week. Even if you ate no food and burned 60,000 calories per day (by running 300 miles per day), you still wouldn't lost the amount you claimed. They only way to lose that much weight in that short amount of time is by dehydrating your body, which is unsafe and not true weight loss. Please aim for around 2-5 lbs per week at a maximum.
@@palmerprod I lost the weight because I never drank water and I would eat an amount 3-4 people would eat. So I cut out everything and stuck on with water/herbal teas, I eat small meals and walk 5 miles everyday.
Uuuh, RUclips just came out like SURPRISE! I've been running at 330 pounds and I'm currently at 290. I'm working to getting toward 220 and being able to run my first marathon. Right now I'm at 5 miles as my longest run and I'm going to hit up a 15k in March. This was a huge motivator! Definitely subscribing and would like to hear more about your journey toward getting ready for ultra running as long endurance races have always peaked my interest in being the most insane accomplishment.
just keep working hard i was 311 in jan now down to 230 and ran my first half marathon in 1hr59min i was hurting pretty bad but i made it and you can too.
This deserves to go viral man. One hell of a story. I've been fighting weight my whole life. I've gotten a handle on it a few times over the years, but never been fully successful. Thank you for the inspiration, I really needed it today.
Thanks so much and honestly I am just stoked for one person to watch it and hopefully pass on a little inspiration that will hopefully help someone else. Keep up the good fight! I can tell you that I wouldn't at all consider myself finished, but from where I was it has certainly been worth the fight and struggle to get here.
Wow. Amazing brother. I have been training for my first 100 miler for the past 6 months down here in S.C. My weight had jumped up to 275, but not unlike yourself, had that moment of clarity and decided to make the change. Since then I have dropped 100 lbs, learned to box, skateboard, jump rope on a Mayweather scale, and do countless other things that I thought would never be possible. Thanks for the inspiration. Have a great day, and a great journey.
Jason, this is inspiring. I started my weight loss journey over seven years ago at nearly 300 lbs with a daily walk around the block.Today, I have run, walked, and hiked over 3,000 miles and I'm down to 200 lbs, with more to lose. I just came across your video and the Leadville 100 is on my list as I prepare for my first ultra distance race in August. Hope to see you on the trails one day.
Hey thanks for watching and congrats on your own journey! Keep up the awesome work and have a blast at your first ultra in August! I hope to see you in Leadville one day!
Jason, you are an absolute inspiration!!! I found myself at 300 lbs myself, 3 years later I am 200 lbs and am training for my first 10k. While I still have 30 lbs left to lose, I am confident that I have taken my life in my hands. Congratulations on your success, and thank you for the inspiration to keep going.
Thanks so much for the kind words and keep up the awesome work! Have a blast during your 10k and be proud of yourself for all that you have accomplished!
@@JasonCohenphoto I wanted to reach out to you as your video changed my life. I am now one month out from running the Chicago marathon and just completed my first 20 mile run. When I first commented, I was unsure where running would take me, but I saw the look in your eyes after finishing your run and knew that I wanted nothing more then to experience the same thing for myself. Thank you again Jason!!!!
@@davidmelnick337 Wow that is so amazing and it makes my day! I hope you have enjoyed the training journey and it will be an incredible moment when you cross that finish line! I always remind myself that race day is the gift for all of the hard work already done. A few weeks ago I had the chance to run Leadville again and that race day feeling is like nothing else. Congrats again and keep up the great work!
This video is so good when I’m older I want to do a 100 miles but right now I’m just gonna stick to my 1 mile 5k and 10k since I’m only in middle school 😂
@@domo_willson You are 17 in middle school? Forgive me (I'm not in the USA) But is it only 18 year olds in High School in the USA? Hell I finished High School when I was 17.
This is an amazing story. Congrats!!! I am running for the first time and training for my first marathon. I have been obese for at least 10 years and last year I was diagnosed with diabetes and early this year we lost our son, Oscar, from preeclampsia; I started running because, as you, I was tired with the person I saw in the mirror; I started running to cope with the loss of my son; and I hope one day I get to share my story like you did! 🙏🏽🖖🏽
Thanks so much for watching. I am so very sorry to hear about the loss of your son, I can't comprehend what that has been like. When you cross that finish line at the marathon it will be a magical moment. I look forward to seeing your story and please do share it!
At 3:28 just heard your wife say how much she loved you & never even paid attention to the weight there was just more of you to love. Wish you both long, healthy & happy life... Thanks for sharing
This had me in tears at the end. Incredible story of an incredible journey. I've lost 106lbs so far and am on my last 20 to lose but got hooked on jogging 11 weeks ago for the first time in my life (I'm 42). This inspired me to keep going like you wouldn't believe. I signed up for my first 10k a couple of weeks ago. This may not be far to some but for a woman who felt she'd be obese her whole life it's one hell of an achievement. Your story is an inspiration to keep pushing the goal posts. ✨ have a great day 🏃♂️
Wow, great film. I started my journey at 290 lbs am about 188 now. Am doing my 1st 50k in 8 weeks time. Been training hard. So many motivated people out there, it just makes me want to push harder.
Wow man! I'm 2 months into my journey of losing 100 lbs and training for a 50 mile bike race in death valley. Great to hear your story and you have a wonderful wife also. God bless you and your family!
I havent done any crazy feats like the leadville 100, but I used to weigh 334 pounds at my heaviest and managed to get down to 180-185 pounds now. Such an inspiring story, great job man.
I'd love to see more about the actual process and timeline of getting from 297lbs to the starting line at Leadville! You mentioned that this was way harder of a challenge than the actual race. But it was pretty much glossed over in a 30 second montage in the documentary. I'm really curious how you trained, and stayed motivated!
Hey thanks and I certainly would have loved to share more but this was actually about a year and a half long project just for this amount of time and I was ready to get it out into the world :) I have another film/project that I am working on that will hopefully have more time/space to go into more detail but won't be as focused on Leadville specifically. Thanks again for watching!
Great story! As a runner myself, I found myself cheering him on. My only question is, why are there any dislikes for this video? DOn't you want to be inspired? !
I was tearing up at every scene with you and your support crew. Life's greatest accomplishments really do take a village and it was so beautiful to see your people rallying around you in support of your mission.
Great story and professional content! On my own similar journey and this was super encouraging! At 48 and 270lb decided my 50's had to be the best. At 28 months (and 50 now) down 76lbs (last 15lbs in sight in 4-5 months!) and training for first marathon in January. Glad you started yours earlier in life, but it is never too late. Not sure I'll make the 100 mile efforts, but I am looking forward to 50K and possibly 50 miler before 55! Just thinking about it and sure would be cool to run 100K and run further than my age at least once in my life - you are helping me cast a larger vision ;-)
I'm doing something wrong. All the commenters here have gotten their 100 if not 50. I was 300 11 years ago and got down to 230 after I picked up running. Ran 50ks but struggle with the 50. You guys inspire me to push harder. Way to go everyone!
I Love this!!! I am 300lbs now and plan on training for 10km plus. I want to run again and for running to be part of my weight loss journey. Well done and very inspirational. Thank you or posting...
Jason, let me say your story is very similar to the one I am currently writing. Last November I stepped on the scale and it got to 325 pounds. I knew I had to do something. I started dieting, going to the gym, and getting back on my mountain bike. I’m now down 99 pounds, and am wanting to ride in the Leadville 100 MTB race in 2021. If I can make it happen in 2020 that would be even better. I’ve still got about 35 more pounds that I want to lose, but I know I can do it. Your story is more inspiration for me to keep at it, thank you for sharing it.
Congrats on your own journey! I actually crewed the 2018 MTB for some friends and it was an awesome time. Keep up the great work and keep us posted on your road to LT100 MTB!
Fantastic video. Great inspiration for a big guy who dreams to become a runner and to do something grand and crazy just like you did. Greetings all the way from Iceland

What an amazing story and journey. I was just in Leadville for the 2019 Leadville 100 and was in awe of this event. I had never even heard of it and just happened to be there. Congrats on your accomplishments.
You know what got to me the most was that huge crew of people there to support you and cheer you on. What a beautiful picture of community. It reminds me of how much I fear that kind of community, of being vulnerable and asking for help. You're a rockstar, Jason. Thanks for sharing this.
I am another person touched by your story and your success! I have also struggled with my weight my entire adult life and have enjoyed running/walking/hiking during my varying falls and rises in weight. When I see someone so completely conquer obesity and weight issues it really inspires me to continue my own journey. By sharing your life you will have a profound effect on thousands of us who struggle with the same affliction. Thank you, and your friends, for your time, efforts and wonderful victory!!!!

Thanks for watching and the kind words! Congrats on your weight loss and keep up the great work. Finishing the 5k is going to be an amazing feeling and accomplishment! You got this!
On that same journey, not so extreme but still each mountain is a mountain. I cant express how motivating this is. One of my biggest struggles is the need for calories when i knock out some good miles, especially after the race. How did you deal with that? I started thinking I would run to lose weight, now its lose weight to run. Keep on motivating and doing the races which make folks like me stand up and notice.
Bright observation ! Beans, peas, lentill are really fullfilling food with proteins so it fills hungryness very well. Much respect to obese people taking to running, seems so much harder and risky than bike ! In France medics are like " no run for knees sake " they are all on hike/bike/swim and running later on. So for me it is super surprising to see such running endeavour to lose weight. Go for health !
You definitely need to make sure you're not trying to cut calories after a run and during training. Sure, you can't just eat everything in huge portions but you have to fuel your body or else you'll burn out physically and mentally.
Thank u for this inspirational video! I’m currently 81 pounds down from 322, so 241 now, and sometimes I get stuck on my journey, so I go back to watch videos like this to encourage me to continue! Thanks again!
Thanks for watching! Congrats on your own journey and that s incredible! Keep the great work. I promise it is worth it the further you go and never give up!

This may be my favorite running video. Total respect for you Jason. Last year I weighed 267 lbs and decided to get fit. Stated at age 49 and now age 50 I weigh 199 lbs. I lifted and walked and that slowly turned into lifting and running. I’m up to 21 miles per week and am training for my first half marathon the Eugene half marathon in April. Thanks for the video it helps inspire me to push myself.

Thanks so much what kind of words and for watching. It certainly was an incredible moment. Looking forward to crossing that line again in a few months!
This is so inspirational! Ive lost most of my weight and have started with baby steps to get into long distance running and walking. I only started 3 weeks ago but am already doing 4 hour walks. I have now registered for my first event in a months time which is a 3hr ultra. Its only a small event but considering that 6 months ago i weighed 160kg and got exhausted after 20 steps this is huge. Much love to you and the effort you put in. This is what i want to be able to achieve. Absolutely amazing
Thanks for the kind words and congrats on your own journey! One small bit of advice I have (personal experience and being hard headed) is to take time with the running events/distances as you climb up in mileage. Any time I have had issues with injury (as well as many friends) it is usually from building up too quickly. Have an amazing time at your first event and I am sure you will have many more to come!
What an incredible story Jason well done. I only found your video now but its inspired me to get out the door again. I have been fortunate to have run all my life and not be overweight but have recently taken my life and running for granted recently. You have humbled me by your example and shown me that I need to respect what I have and show gratitude for that and the wonderful opportunity and gift that I have been given to run. Thank you.
I don't remember where or when it was that I read a quote, "Pain is temporary. Pride is forever." That quote has given me more grit and determination (motivation) over the years, than anything I can think of. "All that we are, arises with our thoughts." You are as powerful, or as weak, as you believe yourself to be. Never quit!
This is a wonderful video ! in 2012 I was 47 ,smoked ,overweight and at rock bottom- I felt I had 2 choices - to crash and burn or sort myself out- I chose the latter so on 12th Feb 2012 I gave up smoking ,started to eat healthier and began to train for an Olympic distance Triathlon to give me a focus ( I always need a focus) and a year later I completed it - my physical and maybe more importantly my mental health improved significantly and so began the new me- I am now 56 and tomorrow will be running my 70th Marathon :)- Life is a journey and its never to late to make a positive change and to start loving yourself and when you do every day is a blessing- take care :)

I’m nearly forty pounds down and training to run a marathon next May! Thank you for the inspiration!
Hey thanks for the kind words. I was 27 as well when I made the decision to turn things around. Great job on deciding to make a change! Reach out if I can help in any way
@Maggie Talty I wouldn't let any number be a discouragement. It's never too late to get started. Believe in yourself too!
I cried when he said "Is this a dream?" And his wife screamed "YES!"
Haha yeah it really seemed like it. Thanks for watching!
This has inspired me to lose run. I went from 385lbs down to 318lbs in only 3 weeks. I will keep going and fulfill my dream of joining the Army
im afraid that losing that much weight in that short amount of time is not healthy for you body
Keep up the hard work and you will achieve your dream!
@@exorcists OK i just want to make sure you are doing it safe. I crash dieted before and i paid the price. 3 months of fatigue and weight gain.
Thanks for watching and keep up the great work. You will be down to 220 before you know it and have a blast at your 15k!
just keep working hard i was 311 in jan now down to 230 and ran my first half marathon in 1hr59min i was hurting pretty bad but i made it and you can too.

Hey Anthony! Loved the story! Just curious how things have been turning out since last year?

Thanks and have an amazing time at your race! Keep up the great work and sending you all the best from Louisiana!
What an incredible support system! This makes my heart so happy.
I certainly had an amazing crew out there! Thanks for watching!
Jason Cohen has responded to most of the comments left here. Wow!
Thanks for noticing and the kind words!
Now this is a relatable story, this makes me believe regular people can do these events! Awesome and you're so lucky to have such a cool crew
I am super lucky and thanks for watching!
Update, I lost the weight and just ran my first half marathon (virtual)...my running journey started with your video. Thanks again Jason

✨ have a great day 🏃♂️
That's amazing and what an incredible journey! Keep up the fantastic work! That finish at the 10k is going to be special! Congrats again!!!
Wow, great film. I started my journey at 290 lbs am about 188 now. Am doing my 1st 50k in 8 weeks time. Been training hard.
So many motivated people out there, it just makes me want to push harder.
Congrats on your weight loss and keep up the great work!
Wow man! I'm 2 months into my journey of losing 100 lbs and training for a 50 mile bike race in death valley. Great to hear your story and you have a wonderful wife also. God bless you and your family!
Killer and keep up the great work! Have an amazing time at your 50 mile bike race!
I havent done any crazy feats like the leadville 100, but I used to weigh 334 pounds at my heaviest and managed to get down to 180-185 pounds now. Such an inspiring story, great job man.
Thanks for watching and that's amazing! Congrats and keep up the good work!
Thanks for the kind words and congrats on all of your accomplishments! Keep up the great work!
I'm doing something wrong. All the commenters here have gotten their 100 if not 50. I was 300 11 years ago and got down to 230 after I picked up running. Ran 50ks but struggle with the 50. You guys inspire me to push harder. Way to go everyone!
Congrats on your weight loss and 50ks! Thats awesome! Certainly keep working at it and we can all push harder!
I Love this!!! I am 300lbs now and plan on training for 10km plus. I want to run again and for running to be part of my weight loss journey. Well done and very inspirational. Thank you or posting...
Keep up the great work and working towards your goals! You got this and you can accomplish anything you put your mind to!

Blender drinks with fruit and protein powder ....you need protein and carbs. Nuts and fruit later. Staves off junk food impulse. Rock on!
I'll be doing my first zero carb marathon soon. Hoping for a pb.
