- Wendy Richard was best known for her roles in Eastenders and Are You Being Served? She was born Wendy Emerton on the 20th of July 1943 and died on the 26th of February 2009 from a constant battle with breast cancer. In the BBC comedy show Are You Being Served? She played ''Shirley Brahms'' from 1972 to 1985. And in Eastenders she played ''Pauline Fowler'' from 1985 to 2007. This is the update that showed on TV the day after she died. Feel free to rate and post comments, thank you.
RIP Wendy Richards. You were loved in the USA too!
To go from Miss Brahms to Pauline Fowler shows how amazing an actress Wendy Richard was. RIP Wendy.
Miss Brahms and Are You Being Served was amazing. Thanks to PBS for exposing us Americans to that work of art.
Yes, my parents and I were faithful watchers of "Are You Being Served". It's amazing how they touched my family in the United States. We loved that show!
Amen! I watched with my grandma as a kid, it's one of my favorite memories🥰
Used to watch it while a student at William & Mary. Loved all the characters and will always be a great memory.
She made cokney sexy.
Are you being served was one of the first British sitcoms I seen thanks to PBS in the United States. Wendy richards was great in her appearances in dad's army, her role in are you being served and are you being served again, and in Eastenders. She was great in comedy, and drama. she left the earthly plain too soon. Rest in peace Wendy Richards.
Watched from USA for years. RIP Wendy Richards.
RIP Wendy Richard such a lovely woman who made great TV. The Frying Pan moment will go on. Classic TV you made. Xxxxxxx
RIP. Gone, but never forgotten.
Loved her as Miss Brahms, and she was fantastic as Pauline Fowler....a great lady 🤗
I still watch are you being served every day! even though she may not be with us anymore , she still brings such joy with a legendary legacy that will never go away! thank you wendy for bringing a smile to my face in the darkest times!
It's hard to believe that Wendy and her castmates from _Are You Being Served?_ have all been dead for the better half of a decade now. I still watch an episode or two of that show now and then before falling asleep.
I've watched ARE YOU BEING SERVED, AS TIME GOES BY , AND KEEPING UP APPEARANCES . since it came to the USA. In my heart I always say. They're still alive. I've watched two other cast members and I can't watch anymore. I'm about to cry. Right now I'm watching ARE YOU BEING SERVED on RUclips on my TV. where they will still be alive and young. I'm a Indian, African American and I have always wanted Mrs. Slokums accent.
Love Are You Being Served!! As Time Goes By and Keeping Up Appearances are also hilarious!!
@Lowie Patat But occasionally, when they were waiting on an upper class customer, Mrs. Slocumb and Miss Brahms could put on a posh accent.
Loved Wendy Richard. Rest in peace, Wendy, and God bless always.
Rest In Peace miss Brahms! 😞
She was just the best .Good bye Wendy Richard, good bye.
I still watch her on Are You Being Served - and the rest of the cast as well - here on RUclips. Same for Dad's Army. I miss them all, but they'll remain with us. Still, Wendy Richard was special. She shouldn't have gone so soon.
Great actress. RIP, Wendy.
You will be missed Wendy. God bless you. R.I.P.
I’VE BEEN WATCHING “ ARE YOU BEING SERVED “ AND OTHER SHOWS FOR YEARS IN THE USA. R.I.P BEAUTIFUL WENDY 😊😊❤️❤️

I was a young boy here in Australia when we got the show are you being served a beautiful young woman i loved her,R.I.P...Wendy Richard.....
I had actually watched Eastenders on PBS in Houston for awhile in the late 80's before I even knew about Are You Being Served. Seeing Wendy playing Miss Braums after a couple years of seeing her as Pauline was pretty awesome. I didn't even know of her passing until 3 or 4 years later. Sad that she's gone
The Lord is my life's refuge. Blessing to your family, Ms. W. Richard .
Wendy Richard played Pauline in eastenders really good she will be sadly missedxx
Rest in peace Wendy.

Wendy Richard was a good actor R.I.P miss her storylines💕😔
Miss.Brahms, I love your cockney accent. Most beautiful & innocent looks. Very sorry to miss you. Wendy Richards.Rip.
I saw her perform 'live' in Cyprus back in 1974 when she came, with Frankie Howerd and others to entertain the troops. They were all much appreciated.
What a beauty inside and out. I sure miss her. In OZ every male was in love with her.
All of the main actors in Are You Being Served are dead now. Very sad
Mike Berry who played Spooner is still alive unless you mean the original cast>
Yes Jim. You are quite correct. I think that Berry replaced Trevor Bannister, who is sadly deceased.
Young Mr. Grace was right. They DID all do very well. Now, Heaven's branch of Grace Brothers is fully-staffed...
*TheAlistairDick*
So you mean that shoppers are now just hanging around in the store without being served?
TheAlistairDick nooooooooo!!!!!!!

She was a lovely lady.xx
R.I.P Wendy Richards xxx
Very young age -For her to leave this Cruel world..
wow! I am soooo late. I'm glad I decided to research some other vids. R I P WENDY! :+-(
Poor Pauline Fowler. Such a strong lady and she had to deal with a Family who gave her such a hard time sometimes. If you sent a US Soap Mother to Albert Square back in the day they would be mortified.
Loved her in both shows
Arthur and Pauline are now back together again 🌹❤️🌹❤️
we never did get Eastenders here in The States. only AYBS... and i loved her in that.
She was beautiful woman as Shirley she was beautiful lady God luv her sadly missed miss brams xx
We love you, Miss Brahms!!
Are You Being Served? Mr. Rumbole is still living.
No he's not, Nicholas Smith passed away in December 2015
She could really deliver a straight-line. It is harder to do than people think, timing has to be just right.
+MsLilyhorse Yes and she really made us laugh, poor lady had a tough life.
yep i think you only appreciate good acting whenever you see poor acting.
The sad irony is that her on-screen mother Anna Wing outlived her.
In her hay day, she was a right pin up. A very attractive young women, especially in Dad's Arm and Are You Being Served?
Wendy Richard should return to EastEnders
Miss her from EastEnders also Bill treacher great characters
R.I.P. sad 😇
I miss her rip 💕💕💕💕💕💕
Wendy Richard also appeared alongside the Carry-On crew in two or three Carry-On movies, that always seems to be overlooked in discussing her career. There's also her 1962 reord appearance alongside Mike Sarne on EMI's Parlophone label with "Come Outside".
RIP Bill
RIP THANK YOU 💘 💋
Aaahhh the good old days when you could have a joke without it being called “sexual harassment”. The “politically Correct” mob have ruined comedy along with everything else through their non stop “hysteria” 😞😞😞
So true...So sad...
She was meant to be a nice person
Rest In Peace Wendy!
Wendy Richard has died in 2009
Crap I didn't know she had gone! And even before Molly Sugden, too!
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Mike Sarne - ‘Come outside’ ...
I was absolutely surprised when I heard the news
I knew she had cancer for sometime, but I never thought it would happen so quickly.
Wendy was a sweet woman; I always dreamt of meeting her. The next time I do so, it'll probably be her ghost. I may not have a chance of meeting her when I die. She's in heaven, but I'm sure to go to hell.
Also to pint out, she was a one time singer (that glorious song: Come Outside)
I liked WR: couldn't abide Deadenders.
Wonderful lady. Kept her sense of humour right until the end, even when her third bout of cancer made her hair like Peggy's. (Yes, I know it's a wig!)
In my opinion it should of been Dame Wendy Richard
She had the most difficult task to replace Anna Wing as the main matriarch of EastEnders. Not only did she do it, but she fourished.
I have only just found out that she died! I don’t remember any announcement on BBC News.
Arthur got some frying pan Justice......
She's in God's hands now
@Feisty1967 Yes, he is still alive.
"And all that time, we never had an argument..."
Yeah, except that time she smacked you in the face with a frying pan.
I wished some of us never of to die , can someone put when did the members of are you bean server die the year when they die?
I'll never forgive the Eastenders writers for what they did to Pauline's character in last year. 😡
I couldn’t agree more! I’ve really got into watching old clips of EastEnders from the days where everybody used to watch it. I have massively enjoyed reliving some fantastic memories and great, great storyline. What they did to Pauline Fowler’s character in the last year was disgraceful and I don’t quite know how they got away with it. In fact, I’m sitting here, trying to remember at what point, they started to turn Pauline into this really nasty, bitter and twisted woman?
I can’t remember this specifically but did the BBC know that Wendy Richards was going to be leaving so far in advance as to explain why they decided to change her character so much? 🧐
@@Micegift as I recall, Wendy was so upset with what they were doing with Pauline, she quit. I remember she said that Pauline never would have remarried at all, let alone a person like whatever her 2nd husband's name was. Wendy had played Pauline so long and was so loyal to her, which I loved. And she was right -- no matter the stupid mistakes Arthur made, he regretted them and deeply loved Pauline. There was no one else for her besides "my Arthur." And longtime fans knew that too. Pauline would at most have been an interfering MIL, telling Martin that Sonya doesn't do this or that right, but if someone else would have picked on Sonya, Pauline would have been the first one to give them a that for. Interesting that as she got older, she became more and more like Lou. 🙂
I think that when she quit she was cancer free but then it came back again, of course.
Cor, drastic domestic violence in one scene. If Pauline had had an affair and Arthur had clobbered her with the frying pan, what would the reaction have been?
@dhaddox Agreed. I had them recorded and would watch them when either awake at nights off from work or when nothing on tv.
Would have been good if Arthur spazzed out and wrecked the room like he did at Christmas
Her death scene in eastenders was fucking ludicrous and really badly put together, someone in the production team wasn't giving a shit
+Stillo Chillino... That's when I stopped watching it, got too damn depressing , especially on Christmas day.
