I relate to the part where Pauline says that she would jump each time the phone rang thinking it would be "the call". I went through the same thing for two years when my uncle was dying of cancer. In the end I was asleep when the call came, but it was devastating nonetheless.

My grandma recently moved into a care home and she has lived in her house since 1964. Some rooms have all of the same furniture she bought the year before but most are as they were in the 80s and early 90s
God, this show was amazing. Complex, imperfect characters and difficult situations. I think we all knew how good it was it at the time. At least there's that. It's a shadow of itself now.

Pauline and Martin lost a whole family. Downhill all the way after Lou's death. Michelle and Vicky left for America, Arthur died, then Pete, then Martin was left alone. A once prominent family gone.

HIV and AIDS are not the same thing. HIV (what Mark had) is now a very, very manageable disease and quality of life has greatly improved to the point that people with HIV now can get there Virus load so low they are ‘undetectable’ and they can’t even transmit the disease via sex. If anything a new HIV storyline should be show to break down the old stigma’s and show people that you can now have a long, full life. In 2019 98% of people receiving HIV medication had an undetectable virus load.

Martin and Sonia had the perfect romantic exit together in a taxi in 2007, which is now tainted because Natalie Cassidy returned and so the writers broke them up off screen. Martin makes no sense with Stacey Slater; he always belonged with Sonia.

Sunny Grover Pauline was an awful character. A narrow-minded, sour old witch. She didn't start off like that - she was quite likable at the beginning, but she became more and more sour as the years went by.

The new Martin (James Bye) is boring. Also, Martin and Stacey make no sense together. James Alexandrou had the more challenging task of playing Martin as a teenager and young adult. He did a great job and had fantastic chemistry with Natalie Cassidy. He was part of the greatest EastEnders era.
Wendy Richard played Pauline fantastically but this scene never grabbed me much, it wasn’t well done, the Pauline that most people knew would of been in bits, even though she knew Mark would one day die young. It wasn’t put together well, but I imagine this was down to the producers of the show which ruin soaps
I think this is played ok tbh, as Pauline had kept Mark's HiV away from Martin knowing, the way she's says no mother expects their child to die before them. Heartbreaking.

Non Hodgkins Lymphoma is inoperable and incurable... It can be treated with chemo to try to keep it in check but it is terminal. My wife has it and is in remission

They successfully removed the tumour but there were still some cancerous cells hanging around so I am undergoing chemo at the moment. @@midnightstar1996 Well to be fair, did any teenager in Albert Square have an easy time? Martin grew up in a family that suffered from a whole range of problems. You had Pete Beale's wife being raped, Martin's brother Mark Fowler dying from AIDS, their father being conned and basically killed by someone he trusted... Eastenders makes everyone miserable.
