I haven't seen Eastenders since the late 90s but just now watching this hits me right in the feels. Right before this I saw the clips of Lofty returning to Walford for Dr Legg's funeral. So many memories of the early years of the show.
I think its the fact it takes us all back to better days, we may have had it hard at times but now the uk is so full of pc bs its an insult to those who lost their lives making the country what it became. I left there just before brexit, could never go back. This show and many others give us back whats been lost forever 😢 xxx love you all, whoever you are and wherever you are ❤ xx

4:52 - Just look at the size of those tea cups! You could almost put a 5th of liquor in them. Derek was such a good friend to Pauline. This was a lovely scene - thanks for sharing it. I miss mark so much - he was one of my all-time favorite characters. Definitely in my top 5. A fan from NYC.
Todd Carty, who played Mark, actually disagreed with the storyline. He felt Mark had many years left... as someone he based the character on lived a lot longer. Mark only tried 3 combinations of HIV drugs so the storyline was unrealistic in that sense. Patients go on to try more combinations than three! He was angry that Mark was killed off too early & felt like it took hope away from the real people suffering from HIV, he very much hoped that Mark's storyline didn't make HIV patients give up hope that their lives could be long & successful.
I found it so sad when Mark is told by his doctor that his anti retrovirus meds are no longer working and he has only months to live. He attempts suicide later but Sharon stops him thankfully and convinces him to make the most of the time he has left.
Matt Beardsworth I'll bet all of Mark's/Todd's fans would like to think it was his but they probably got someone from the wardrobe dept. or something to sign it.
I think the handwriting saying: Mark Fowler 4 A is different to the message for Derek in the book, so presumably writing stating Mark's name & class and the message to Derek was done by different people.
He knew Vicky much better in fairness as he was around for a good bit of her childhood, he probably met Mark Jnr bout once. But I agree that it's odd he left Michelle nothing.

Definitely should’ve watched up until 2009/10/ imo. The first half of 2000s decade of eastenders still had a carry over of the 90s feel to it.
