"She's a lucky cow!" Brilliant because that's EXACTLY what Mrs. Slocombe would have said about Molly Sugden. What a lovely, lovely woman and so dearly missed. She and Patricia Routledge could easily have played conniving sisters, that would have been amazing.
I am so lucky to have met Mollie in Denver when she came for a PBS event. I also was lucky to meet John Inman at another PBS event. I had to stand in long lines both times but it was worth it!!
What a lovely person. She was modest in a very sincere way and quietly acknowledged her success without boasting about it. That is quite a feat in itself! I liked how she spoke about her career but balanced it with being just another mother. Unlike Mrs. Slocombe, Molly Sugden puts on no airs and graces and certainly no delusions of grandeur. That's probably why she remained funny until the end.
I am an American. and PBS { Public Television } used to Air Are you being served on Friday nights. My friend and I loved that show! everyone was so fantastic in their roles. sadly they no longer run the British Comedies any more. I love the British Since of humor.😀👍
I can’t remember the last time the BBC made a really good sitcom. It seems to have lost its sense of humour. So we have to pretend that mediocre efforts like The Vicar of Dibley were in fact brilliant
I briefly worked with Dara Wells at NBC Radio Network in the mid-80's just after I graduated college and she was the sweetest, nicest person to me. Gave me a big compliment to the news editor. No one better to interview the adorable Molly Sugden than her.
I so love Are you being served! Mollie seems like a sweet grandmotherly, delightful lady. Would like to have been able to meet some these actors, especially Arthur Brough. He made me laugh! Rest in Peace all and thank you.
What a charming lady! I've lately realized that in many cases, I would be disappointed to meet the actor, that it's their character that I'd like to meet. Meeting Mollie, however, would be doing both.
I remember as a child in the mid 70s, this ariving on our screens, which fitted in well with the statas quo of various Camp Comedy shows. Later on, was it a really big hit in The USA?
I love her! I watch AYBS every night from America on Britbox. I have watched every episode so many times.❤❤❤ Mrs. Slocumbe and Mr. Humphries make the show. However, every single actor on the show is amazing.
I have loved her for so many years, and miss her. I watch lots of her shows. That's my boy, AYBS and Grace and Favor, My husband and I, and a few more but my mind went blank. She was the best.
I wish the BBC had funded more seasons of "Grace And Favor". Just watched it for the first time a few weeks ago and they could have developed that into such a wonderful second series had they done more seasons. The two that exist are amazing as they are but that world would have been so unique to explore with that cast
Oh, my gosh! Thank you so much for posting this. I’ve only known about the show within the last couple of years and I was trying to find interviews on some of the actors to get to know them a bit. Of course, they’ve all passed away long ago, perhaps making it difficult to find anything. Thanks again!
You're welcome. I quite enjoyed the interview when I first saw it and again, 27 years later, when I prepared it for uploading. I'm happy to know someone else is having the chance to see it.
Go^^^^n I love Mollie. I was born America 1974 and first saw her around 1992 at least. The whole cast of "Are You Being Served?" was a godsend to me. Mrs. Slocombe being stodgy. Mr. Humphries being himself. Mr. Lucas being the gadfly and Miss Brahms unashamed about being working class. I love them all.
Great interview- never seen that before. On talking about AYBS, I'm kinda surprised they didn't mention her, errr, "cat." It could be that by 1995, the word had fully adopted the "other" meaning and would be deemed to risque!
I remember Mollie Sugden on that's life as well, reading the silly news paper cuttings, etc with Jo Munro . Not only a very funny and talented actress but a very funny and talented person. May she rest in peace .
This is over 20 years after AYBS debuted. But you could have dyed her hair pink or blue and she could have gone straight back to being Mrs. Slocombe! And from the sound of it she wouldn't even have needed a script! 😂 delightful lady.
Loved that show, A.Y.B. Served. Still to this date, great cast. Sadly, in the U.S. Never saw how some of the characters were written off. Mr. Lucas mainly, I think they stated how/ why Mr. Granger was gone but can not remember at this time, But nothing on Mr. Lucas or those that kept taken over Mr. Grangers position. 3 or 4 in total, was it ?
I've just watched the whole 10 series. Mr.Lucas was never written out-he had just gone without any explanation. That happened with a few of the characters. The actor that played him had theatre work at the time that clashed with continuing in the role. Interestingly the original idea for the show was to be built around his character.
Thank you Molly you will never know the happiness and memories I feel and experience when I watch you in are you ring severed. Happy times from the past, my family my home and many more happier times to come. 🙏🏿❤🌹🌹R.I.P
She was a fabulous actress ❤️

That would have been amazing to see her and Patricia together!
couldn't agree more.
😂😂😂😂 so true
Great show. Miss all of them.
Dear Mollie, we love you still. ❤
The casting of AYBS is the thing that made the show. And I am unanimous in that.
A very Beautiful, funny, and Talented woman. R.I.P.
Indeed ❤
Also sweet, sillie, and funnie
And I am unanimous in that.

Mollie Sugden's willingness to do almost anything for a laugh made watching "Are You Being Served?" such a treat.
She was quite charismatic, funny, and pretty in real life.
The late Molly Sugden was a phenomenal Actress
Speaking for myself- and I am unanimous in this- we Yanks LUV her!
Beautiful Mollie Sugden!
❤️❤️❤️

Check PBS listing for Saturday evenings. Our PBS affiliate in San Antonio plays 2 episodes of Keeping Up Appearances. Britcoms rule.

@@AurumEtAesThe BBC haven't made a good sitcom since the 1970s. Even the 1980s episodes of 'Are You Being Served?' weren't very good.
I was always impressed by Mollie doing so many physical stunts on the show, amazing!!!
I loved this show. It was like visiting old friends. I really felt I knew the characters.
I've never seen this before it's wonderful ❤ such a beautiful talented lady, ❤ thankyou for the memories Molly xxxx 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️❤️❤️🇦🇺

i grew up watching this show over and over on VHS in the late 90ès, its so weird to think its been 45 that hes been gone
Very funny woman, I still sleep to episodes of are you being served. A timeless series ❤

Yes, indeed it was. I still watch it now, some 50 years later. I have grown up and grown older watching it.
I wish I could have gone to this. God was she one funny lady. And exceptionably talented

Such a lovely woman! I still watch Are You Being Served? every week. Rest well, Mollie, you’ve earned it.
Purple Hair and letting her "Kitty" out to breathe! LOLS
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank you!
I will watch anything if Mollie is in it!!!!

She’s a treasure
Wonderful!
Such an icon ❤
Mollie was just the Best!
She's so much like Hyacinth Bouquet out of her Mrs Slocumb drag!

My mum was Mollie sugden's bridesmaid.
Well, that's pretty cool.
Stop fibbing
Well, I got the "Little Britain" reference, even if no one else did....
Pretty good shout out to little Britain
Your mum must look a lot like David Walliams.
We still luv u and miss you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I loooooooove her
A real honour to be interviewed by Wacko Jacko himself!
LOVE YOU MRS SLOCOMBE
I thought Molly was a great lady and very very funny indeed 😄 Barney Glasgow 😊
Wow what a talented lady.. Love her.. I can relate I have identical twins.. Mistaken identity all the time.. It's very funny..
Delightful.
That was a great last question.

Amazing actress that inspired other young(er) comedians and shows! ... pussy
Bring back the days when everything we see isn't American!
I was her bridesmaid.

Mollie was comical. I liked how she could talk posh and then a Yorkshire accent.
I watch this show on Britbox. Funny, funny, funny.
Reporter looks like Bethenny Frankel
