One of the things that most impresses about John Inman - apart from being a hugely skilled performer - is that he was so effortlessly and naturally charming in everything he did, whether it was Are You Being Served?, Grace and Favour, Odd Man Out, or any other show. You just enjoyed his presence, and that enjoyment never faded.
I loved John Inman. He was an amazing actor and such a lovely man. I joined John's fan club when I was 13 and I met John twice at the conventions and also went to the BBC to watch a recording on my birthday 16 and they called my name to say that it was my birthday and John came up to me and wished me a happy birthday and gave me a kiss on the cheek. I'll never forget that and how lovely it was of John to do that 😊 I was heart broken when John passed away and I will never forget John Inman ❤

I met Mr Inman very briefly when he was signing programs after a terrible farce that toured to NZ. He was the one bright spot of the production and he was so generous and gracious upon meeting people after his arduous performance. A great performer and a lovely man.

Oh I miss them and Open all Hours, Keeping up Appearances, early Last of the Summer Wine and so many more but I'm rambling. Thanks again for sharing this.
It is very apparent from this programme that John Inman was a charming and humble man. It also strikes you that his fellow stars of screen and stage got their fame through sheer hard work and talent. I was working as temp barman at the Victoria Pub in Birmingham in the early nineties. I think John was in Peter Pan at the Alex theatre next door. I asked this gentleman if he didnt mind me sitting at the same table as the pub was busy that night. Of course he said. I had no idea it was John. His hair was dyed black. He was so gracious and he chatted to me for the whole 45 mins I had my lunch. What a lovely man he was.

It’s so strange to me, I grew up watching “Are You Being Served?” In the late 90’s to early 00’s with my late grandparents and to think of how virtually all these people no longer physically exist on this planet. As of writing this, only two supporting actresses from “Are you being served” are still alive. John Inman was an incredible actor and a very funny man. Mr Humphreys and Mr Lucas were the best comedy TV duo. If you asked me what TV show I would want to live in, I would say "Are you Being Served". It is one of the best comedy series of all time.
Oh John, you were a great actor and loved by everyone you touched through the magic of acting. I think my favorite scene was the one where Mrs. Slocombe sets up her apartment in the store. His panic run and flip onto the couch was hilarious. And then the ending where he tries to pet her cat and she calls out "Mr. Humphries, leave my pussy alone!" to which Peacock and Lucas wake up in shock
This is absolutely lovely to see so many stars of that era, sadly no longer with us. Shame we didn't see Patrick Thornton and Trevor Bannister make an appearance with the rest of the cast. Other showbiz commitments maybe. The Thames tune and TIYL tune brought back memories too!♥️
Made my night after a good day. I seen the AYBS episode when they did the thing for Mr. Grace and his department first, now I see how well Trevor Bannister did his impersonation. I was almost one years old when this was broadcast apparently . Now I'm watching it on my phone. ... I'd watch it anywhere I love it .... 😊🇬🇧💙💞🌟👼

Beautiful to see the cast from are you being served on stage and out of character. Also shows that life is a short experience and we ought to make the most of it
And here you see a man with no ego, and a great heart. Deeply missed!

Mr Humphreys: Not at the moment..
Captain Peacock: This gentleman wishes to try on a dress.
Mr Humphreys: I'M FREE!!! 😂😂😂😂
I absolutely love Are You Being Served and have watched the reruns so many times. A great cast but John Inman was just special. Thanks for this upload.
Thank you for inspring us all Robin and John including all you British actors who have given the Australian audience such wonderful times:::)) Welcome to Gladstone Queensland Australia::: )) CHEERS from Australia
A great entertainer and human-being. Loved his shows and the re-runs.
John Inman was an incredible actor and a very funny man. Mr Humphreys and Mr Lucas were the best comedy TV duo. If you asked me what TV show I would want to live in, I would say "Are you Being Served". It is one of the best comedy series of all time.
Rip John Inman a true gent and 😢 sadly miss x
Oh John, you were a great actor and loved by everyone you touched through the magic of acting. I think my favorite scene was the one where Mrs. Slocombe sets up her apartment in the store. His panic run and flip onto the couch was hilarious. And then the ending where he tries to pet her cat and she calls out "Mr. Humphries, leave my pussy alone!" to which Peacock and Lucas wake up in shock
I love this man, what a comedic genius and seems like a very nice person
So many talented people no longer with us, thank goodness for RUclips
This is absolutely lovely to see so many stars of that era, sadly no longer with us. Shame we didn't see Patrick Thornton and Trevor Bannister make an appearance with the rest of the cast. Other showbiz commitments maybe.
The Thames tune and TIYL tune brought back memories too!♥️
Frank Thornton
omg brought a tear to my eyes so emotional
Made my night after a good day. I seen the AYBS episode when they did the thing for Mr. Grace and his department first, now I see how well Trevor Bannister did his impersonation. I was almost one years old when this was broadcast apparently . Now I'm watching it on my phone. ... I'd watch it anywhere I love it .... 😊🇬🇧💙💞🌟👼
What a lovely surprise! He looked shocked when the host announced it 😁💐
That was absolutely brilliant and a much loved man.
Please a much loved WOMAN!
@Carol Epworth: You're such a fool!!!
John was a very funny man. Made me laugh many times. Sad loss he is no longer here.
t only man t a this is your lfle t
I too love that show ,Are You Bring Served!!!John, and all the cast,I love you all and the work you have done for so many people.God Bless You All!!!
Wonderful people, and John Inman was sensational in anything he performed in, a comic genius. I saw most episodes of AYBS when they were on Australian television and have watched them all again through the medium of RUclips, Lovely people, great actors and very funny to watch.
That Thames intro unlocks my child memories….
That was fabulous. Thanks for posting the video.
wonderful era, thanks for the memories. RIP John Inman...born to soon...
I wish how the so called entertainment of today would look of how good this old Entertainment is
No big ego's in those Days
aww, such a gentle unassuming gent. Not in your face at all.
John Inman is such a beautiful man, I love him to bits xx
Lol mr. Inman in drag is something i will love forever. Hes a talent
All great characters. Great memories. Real talent
I miss watching John Inman. He was my favorite on Are You Being Served.
love this guy john inman a true gem
This man! Wow. Seriously underrated, barely mentioned (GAY-outright, proud-in the 70's from day 1) actor who touched MANY, MANY English and, believe it or not, many Americans also. I am in my 7th decade of life and as a
gosh. it's amazing. his mother looks EXACTLY like him portraying Mr. Humphreys' mother.
IKR! And that was the episode where they did “This is your Department” for Mr Grace!
😆😆😆
@@lazybelphegore6748 That was S5 Ep3 in 1977 but not credited. Mrs Humphries made a full appearance in S8 Ep5 "Heir Apparent" in 1981
naly202: Are you for real? That's Inman in drag! How else is he supposed to look?
@@roberttelarket4934 he was a sweet boy, wasn't he?
I loved the relationship between Humphries and Lucas. A clearly gay man and a straight man. Best friends, sharing dating details, no preaching. Modern films could learn.
I've got news for you Mr. Lucas was probably deep in the closet!
@@roberttelarket4934 Stop talking crap Robert!!
@@UXB-p5u: We’ll prove that it was crap.
He was such a delightful talent! ❤️
As a cockney boy from way back then, this makes me smile and breaks my heart
Beautiful to see the cast from are you being served on stage and out of character.
Also shows that life is a short experience and we ought to make the most of it
Although it is quite interesting that Trevor Bannister was absent, as I heard that they did Panto together... as well as (of course) AYBS?
