    You nailed your planks instead of using glue. I think it's geat, very authentique. Although I was hoping you showed us how you caulked the boat.That would have been awsome. ; )

      Hi Eddy! Thank you =) I will apply a second layer of planks on this boat. Since it will be an RC boat I will probably be using resin to make the hull waterproof

    Great video. Very clear and helpful. One question though: you taper all the planks first, having calculated the required width at each bulkhead. Yet, later, you taper individual planks again, even though they should already have the correct width. Why is that necessary? And why does that not result in gaps, since the twice-tapered plank is now narrower than it should be? What am I missing?

    • @Tagliamare
      @Tagliamare  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you!
      Simply some planks might need to be tapered in a specific way or you need just 2 of that shape. No need to bulk

    I appreciate your channel so much! I am learning a lot, am about to build a Sterling 40" planked powerboat. Your work is really beautiful; being able to watch you work is worth about a thousand books. No detail is too small, since these problems loom when we build and seeing how a pro foxes the glitch is very informative.
    May I ask what type of filler or putty or Bondo you are using? I am already going to use the Tightbond...

    • @Tagliamare
      @Tagliamare  2 года назад

      Hi! Thanks for your comment I really appreciate it :) For this model, after applying a second layer of planking I will be using a special resin for Ships’s hulls as this will be an RC boat. The resin will fill the small gaps between planks (if any) and seal the hull. Gaps have to be really small though, using fillers or putties or bondos to fill gaps is not best practice especially for RC wooden boats. If your boat is just for display and you want to keep the natural look of wood then you can think of using shellac (still no gaps between planks) :)

      @Tagliamare  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! That’s very kind of you :) yes it’s the same principle! Of course it depends on the model: a model with curvy lines might require a bit more attention

    • @dugan6056
      @dugan6056 2 года назад

      Generally yes, but the plank will require bends and twists to prevent buckling. The best jig is your hull. Soak the plank and clamp into position, let it set, it's now a perfect fit.
