I have been a scale modeler for almost 50 years, and while I've never built a wooden ship model, I can appreciate the workmanship required. You do beautiful work. I would love to see more ladies in this hobby. I hope you are an inspiration to them. You have earned my subscription. 👍
I am also a dedicated modeller (since too many years I am scratchbuilding a British -74 from 1811). I also enjoyed buildng Hellerś 1:100 scale HMS Victory and the Soleil Royal. Your ambitious documentation of every step (jncluding preparation) is so inspiring! For the moment I am following your project USS Confederacy and waiting for #10. In due time I hope to pick up your way of making the deadeyes for my -74 (in scale 1:44!). Thanks for an astonishing show!

Something about this video in particular thinks that maybe making this ship isn’t an activity to complete in an afternoon while watching an episode of Hornblower.
Be honest! Each of my videos is filmed within 1-2 weeks on average. Each plank should dry for at least 10-12 hours, that's why I work on several models at the same time. While the glue dries on one - I take the other in my hands...
That is one gorgeous planking job. I love the way you chose the color pattern to match on both sides. It's almost a shame to cover most of it in copper. Great work!
Thanks so much for making an archane job much clearer. I am going to watch this process several more times before my first cut. It is so much work to achieve a beautiful result. Pleasee keep up the fine work!
I see there is more then just gleu planks to the hull. I did try it myself with a sailing ship but could not figere out what they mend with first and second planking. Now i have seen what its like. I admire your skill of making a hull and i see to do it right it takes even some calculations to get a good result. This ship is surtainly not the first one you have made, i can see that. You have a very good techniek. Thanks for showing how its done the proper way. I sure have learned a lot of it. Many thanks from a modelmaker.
I am a stair builder by trade and recently got into a trucking career and wanted to find a craft that would be pleasing to the eye and challenging as well. When I came across your ship building on RUclips. I was astonished at your skill level! I now purchased 9 wooden ship models 1/50 scale. I am acquiring the necessary tools to begin , what I hope , will be stunning works of art that you magnificently do sooo well! I will be watching your RUclips channels to hone my skills. I thought I was a skilled shipmodell builder, but watching your videos I learned so much. It will improve my next ship modell I want to build. Thank you very, very much.
I just watched you making the clamps. I got so many kinds at home but this mehtod is so simple and so bright at the same time : using the planks themselves to adjust thickness... how could I not think of that? It's so enjoyable to witness a really great idea !
My pleasure. I'm glad you liked it. But my passion is sailboats rather than powerboats. It is unlikely that I choose this model of my choice for building...
It is really nice to see how you work in a methodical way and get such beautiful rsults. Keep up your lovely work. You are certainly an inspiration to other model shipbuilders.
Замечательное видео. Заканчиваю один борт, очень обрадовался, што все делал подобным образам, как и Вы. Правда, у меня все рейки в комлекте более темного цвета, и более однородные
I really enjoy your builds, very calming and very informative. Keep doing what you're doing. Its great. Like a few others Im still confused on your planking calculations. I have read your blog, but it doesnt explain how you come up with your numbers. I see you get the measurement in mm on the 4 areas (max, min, bow, stern). Then you divided the max by 4.2 (the width of the 10 planks) the 2 sections next to the max you divide the length by half (2.1), and the bow back to 4.2, why? When making the tick strips you show using 3.6 for each tick at the bow... where did that number come from and how do you calculate for the other sections. Thank you so much for doing this. It really helps us beginners see the techniques that work and how to do them.
Let me try to simplify the explanation! - First you need to count the number of planks on the largest frame (which is obviously the midship frame). That is, I divide the length of the frame by the width of my planks. - All other frames will have the same number of planks, only narrowed. Therefore, I divide the length of the frames by the number of planks on the midship frame. - The exception will be the bow and stern, depending on the design of the ship, you will have to drop the planks in the bow or add short ones in the stern...

Thank you very much! You can make a single-layer planking, but I warn you that it will be three times slower and ten times more difficult to do... You can glue the planks with a soldering iron or a small iron (for this, it is better to fill the spaces with linden or basswood wood, then the planks can be bent directly on the hull for using the same soldering iron).
