2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R Quick Review // What We Really Think

  • The 2023 Ford F-150 Raptor R ($146,005 starting in Canada, $109,145 starting in the US) is one big bad baja brawler. Powered by a 700-horsepower 5.2 L supercharged V8 motor, this mighty American truck aims to tackle offroad racing in style. But power comes at a price, as the Raptor R is a pretty big price jump up from the F-150 Raptor and its screaming V6. It’s also a fair bit more expensive than the Ram TRX, which also has a supercharged V8 and big beefy suspension. Thomas and James take the new F-150 Raptor R out for a quick review and share their thoughts on how it is to drive, and how it compares to the V6 Raptor and the TRX. We hope you enjoy the episode. You dont know much about rural usa then. Most of us still drive trucks that get 12mpg. Many parts of the usa count on older pickup trucks. Used truck prices are through the roof because new vehicles are too expensive, or not capable and maintainable enough for the job. A lot of companies are keeping their older fleet trucks arournd longer for just this reason. Same for farm and construction equipment. Only the big companies are able to afford all the new equipment

      It's impressive how many people mention fuel costs but never pollution... this car is an ecological nonsense, that people will justify owning because "it's nothing compared to a supertanker or industrial pollution", while the simple truth is that they don't give a fuck.

      I was in a V6 Raptor up in Flagstaff Arizona on a two lane road and the driver jumped on it and went to 96 mph and was hugging that long sweeping off camber mountain turn very nicely. Two guys in the back went sheet white in the face. That was a bit much for me but that Raptor was handling nicely with 4 grown men in it.

      It's more efficient, has a nice sound as well (I'm a big fan of 6 Cylinders like the M3, 911, Ford GT so on) and a twin turbo V6 is a pretty unique engine for a performance truck ^^

    • @aaronlima1993
      @aaronlima1993 Год назад +6

      As a regular peasant raptor owner, the shock settings do changed automatically in different drive modes or you can manually adjust them along with steering and exhaust. So in sport mode they get stiffer, but there is still some body roll since they only get so stiff.

    • @PeakDecline
      @PeakDecline Год назад +16

      Not surprising at all. The Raptor R weighs around 500lbs less because of Ford's use of aluminum body panels. That's basically the entire gap in towing and payload.

    • @S8ER
      @S8ER Год назад

      @@PeakDecline if the raptor and the TRX were on the exact same chassis that would make sense. The 5.7L Ram 1500 can tow 12,750 and even the Durango manages 8700lbs so I was just surprised to see the full body TRX come up short.

      @db4z09 Год назад +7

      @@S8ER It all comes down to the max tongue weight these softly suspended trucks can handle without too much weight transfer, which can otherwise cause a loss of steering stability. You need 10-15% trailer weight on the truck to keep it stable at high speeds so the max trailer weight is directly a result of max payload and the next limitation would probably be braking capabilty with the brakes already having to work so hard to slow down these much higher interia tires. Horsepower is not a problem.
