You dont know much about rural usa then. Most of us still drive trucks that get 12mpg. Many parts of the usa count on older pickup trucks. Used truck prices are through the roof because new vehicles are too expensive, or not capable and maintainable enough for the job. A lot of companies are keeping their older fleet trucks arournd longer for just this reason. Same for farm and construction equipment. Only the big companies are able to afford all the new equipment

    • @lptomtom

It's impressive how many people mention fuel costs but never pollution... this car is an ecological nonsense, that people will justify owning because "it's nothing compared to a supertanker or industrial pollution", while the simple truth is that they don't give a fuck.

I was in a V6 Raptor up in Flagstaff Arizona on a two lane road and the driver jumped on it and went to 96 mph and was hugging that long sweeping off camber mountain turn very nicely. Two guys in the back went sheet white in the face. That was a bit much for me but that Raptor was handling nicely with 4 grown men in it.

    • @DefinitelyNotEmma

      The V6 is awesome.
It's more efficient, has a nice sound as well (I'm a big fan of 6 Cylinders like the M3, 911, Ford GT so on) and a twin turbo V6 is a pretty unique engine for a performance truck ^^

    • @robertmillison8933

Not surprising at all. The Raptor R weighs around 500lbs less because of Ford's use of aluminum body panels. That's basically the entire gap in towing and payload.

@@S8ER It all comes down to the max tongue weight these softly suspended trucks can handle without too much weight transfer, which can otherwise cause a loss of steering stability. You need 10-15% trailer weight on the truck to keep it stable at high speeds so the max trailer weight is directly a result of max payload and the next limitation would probably be braking capabilty with the brakes already having to work so hard to slow down these much higher interia tires. Horsepower is not a problem.

Just because there are wealthy people out there willing to pay $150k for this truck, doesn’t mean it’s price can’t be critiqued. I think everyone has forgotten how much $100k is, let alone $150k. That is a lot of money, and really, what car sales have come to is name badges. The “R” makes it more special, but there definitely wasn’t $50k worth put into this vehicle to justify its price. But because people love badges, they will pay it.
There are so many wealthy people in this world now that they lavishly spend their money on things because they have so much money to spend. So wealthy people have dictated what the price of vehicles are now really, and it’s sucks, because before COVID, this truck would have been $80-100k. I get inflation happens, but in 1 years time? I’m sorry, but the vehicle market has never gone crazy like this before, so why now? Well, because of what I explained above…

It’s half a second faster to 60, a full second faster in the 1/4 mile, the V6 Raptor already stomped it in a real desert race, and TRXs have gotten unimaginably marked up as well, with some selling for over $170k. Also, if you load out a TRX with everything it has (and it’s options still pale in comparison to the R), it costs just 5k less. It is most certainly quantitatively better.

Ford doesn’t hide the fact that it burns a lot of gas. If you have 150K laying around and want something that is not nearly as wasteful, there are plenty of options.
