    I'm surprised it didn't seize earlier working hard and being switched off before having a chance to cool. Noticed the engine blowing smoke as you were going around the track and i was expecting it to grenade! Maybe the engine cooling system is particularly blocked or could benefit from an auxiliary electric water pump or engine oil radiator? Good to see you giving it the beans and having fun! 😎👍

      Everything you said was exactly what I was thinking. That motor isn't going to last much longer without a rebuild anyway

    You were really running great for a while.Glad to see you out having fun where you can test the limits safely too.Bummer on the overheat,but lesson learned without perm-seize.Always let stuff cool down after running hard.Hope the rest of the trip was fun and safe.

    Need a larger radiator for the engine. Get a Honda Civic radiator and that should help with the cooling issues. Also get a water temp gauge so you can keep track of it. If it's getting well over 220⁰F, you need a larger radiator.

    • @Addison0526
      @Addison0526 2 года назад

      I don’t remember if he just kept the same radiator from the bike with all that extra weight and load, it’s clearly not enough. Probably got hot and just stayed hot because it just wasn’t enough. I’d be worried about that engine going forward though. Should probably inspect it instead of just running it until it blows and then having to replace the whole thing.

    • @Ratkill9000
      @Ratkill9000 2 года назад

      @@Addison0526 Yeah I would be too. Complete tear down of the top and bottom end, since it did seize up. If I recall, he does keep the original radiators from the donor bikes or gets replacements.
      Every single buggy build I've read, they always get a larger radiator. The extra weight, less air flow, and slower speeds, nowhere near the adequate amount of cooling for it. Even with running a fan. Engine ran too hot and cutting it off did not allow enough time for the coolant to cool the block.

I don't know about other people but I would watch even just a unedited video of some of your projects going around the track and drag strip and stuff. awesome job though

    The buggy setup and your driving is looking SO much better. You can also drive it quite a bit harder and get that engine screaming -- but I can understand staying in the mid range of performance for a good while until you feel more confident. That coarse doesn't seem like much to some people-- but I do understand that there is a lot of processing happening when you're dealing with jumps and turns on the same track. It's a whole other level of things to account for... The suspension still looks a little soft; and if you jumped it any higher it would probably bottom out (or at least it seems that way). But it's getting dialed in more and more. Bravo

    Hmmm, that electric dirtbike looks like it needs some louvres cut and pressed in the main body to assist with cooling, you may also want to attach the ESC's heatsink to the front of the casing with an additional heatsink on the outside to help with cooling

    Looks like a whole lot of fun! Hope you're able to save the engine... Maybe increase cooling efficiency to compensate for the extra load on the engine due to higher weight and longer gearing. Also, on improving handling; this thing really looks like a nice, adjustable stabiliser/sway bar setup would make a huge difference!

  • @erict3870
    @erict3870 2 года назад +2

    The problem with motorcycle engines is that the oiling system is not made to do what you are doing with it. A street bike will always have fluid at the bottom of the stump. Il your application it will slosh from side to side and even go up when you turn and the cart leans towards the outside of the turn. So you may not always have oil for the pickups to shoot oil everywhere it needs to. That might explain your temporary seasure. For the electric dirt bike, go and figure out how to set the sag, this will lead you to better suspension. You will probably need different springs. Remember that you started with a motocross frame, so you probably have motocross suspension, those are not really made for off-road, plus your mods probably changed the balance, motocross valving and too stiff springs will make for a crappy ride in the woods. Your projects are awesome, you are quite the fabricator, keep up the good work. Finally remember that this engine was made to accelerate a street bike with around 300 lbs on it, and a contact patch the size of a quarter at best, and will trow the pilot off if he goes too hard. On the buggy You are probably asking it to work harder than it was designed , so cooling and oiling is really important, otherwise it will blow up.

    Electric dirt bike needs a vent or vent tube hooked to 1 or 2 computer style cooling fans.. like one with tube, vent the end so dirt and debris can not get it blowing into the box, then another for exit/exhaust the used hot air out.. just bolted to the inside of the box with some kind of vent or luber to keep debris out.

    Can a fan cool the controller? Or an air intake?

  • @JoelArseneaultYouTube
    @JoelArseneaultYouTube 2 года назад +1

    The suspension being stiff is likely a result of removing a bunch of suspended weight and turning it into unsuspended weight. Mostly the drive motor. It could also partly be that the bike was set up for someone a lot heavier than you.
    I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to this stuff, but I would assume that the controller heatsink running hot would be normal...

  • @EdTheMole
    @EdTheMole 2 года назад +1

    Try mounting the controller so the heat sink fins are on the outside of the compartment they don't do much good inside with no airflow.

    CBR's need a extra external oil cooler if your gonna thrash it. The one on my 600 steelie is water cooled by the hot water in the jacket.... Sure it looked good on paper but its rubbish in reality. I made a water jacket blanking plate and use a CBR1000 steelie oil cooler now and its 100% better.

    Always let the engine run and cool down for a bit before shutting it off after running it hard. It`s not good if you shut it off while it`s hot, the different parts may contract at different rates and seize.
