Hey guys! Ross here, back from an absence to bring you another Daily Shave! Today’s shave is quite unique as this shave took down a 9+ week beard that really needed to come down. In order to do it, we used Wholly Kaw - 1776.
The soap for today is featured in the highly touted and much lauded Siero base. Siero continues to firmly plant itself in the Elite tier of soap bases offered to the wet shaving community today. This tallow based soap features donkey milk, water buffalo milk, donkey whey protein, water buffalo whey protein, hops extract, cocoa butter, kokum butter, and just the works in terms of skin care ingredients. This base has been reviewed quite a bit since it’s debut and there isn’t much to say that hasn’t already been said. This soap lathers easily, it has a wide range in terms of water tolerance and hydration, it’s slick, it remains low structure and close to the face. It is a fantastic base that I knew would provide everything I could need to take down this thick beard.
The scent of 1776 is described as a summery scent and I can certainly see the correlation. It is quite green off the tub and rounds out very nicely with a subtle masculine, aromatic type of vibe on the tail end of it. I almost would consider using it year round because it seems to fall into that fougere category.
The shave, as one could imagine, definitely was not smooth by any means. A combination of the sheer growth along with a razor that probably could have used a fresher edge did leave me with a few small weepers. I was pleasantly surprised that none seemed to pop up on the mustache area as that tends to be quite sensitive. Instead, to my surprise, the chin took the brunt of the damage. Not long after the post-shave, these closed up just fine and really all other areas of my face felt remarkably smooth and without irritation. I think this result showed me that sometimes shaving over the chin can be taken for granted because there’s a lot of surface area and it’s usually easier to shave, but that was not the case for this one.
Overall, I really enjoyed this soap and would recommend it to anyone that enjoys scents in the fougere genre as this one seems to fit nicely into that category. No question the Siero base will provide excellent performance so that should be of no concern.

Somehow it was more than I actually anticipated. As you could see, it was a struggle and pretty rough by the time the shave ended!
At my wife's recommendation (this is her account), I watched your video and one other. Your beard was something like mine.
My wife got me a Davo straight razor and accessories for a present, and this was my first attempt at shaving with one. I dithered for about a week before I dove in, fearing I would cut my throat. Your video helped assure me that wouldn't happen.
Although my face does look like the shower scene after the movie "Psycho," (it's not that bad really), I suspect I will get better with practice.

Thanks, Razza! This was 9-10 weeks growth. It was coming in pretty good but sometimes those good things must come to an end. Glad to be back to routine shaving again!

It was sad that you didn't have the alum block for the cuts and razor burns but I have to say that was a nice video.
Thank you. I do need to invest in an alum block. I tend to get those small weepers frequently with closer shaves and it would very much come in handy.
@@i2ossEmC yeah the price of a alum block worth it. For me works fine cause always I cut myself with the Astra blades in a Parker 60R
I recommend you the Gentleman Joe or the Mühle alum pen.
