Man arrested for driving 150 MPH in rented Lamborghini

- On November 4, 2021, at approximately 9:14 a.m., Officer Ian Hamm with the Boulder City Police Department, Boulder City, Nevada, was stopped in the median of Interstate 11, near Mile Marker 12, when he noticed a white sports car traveling toward him at high speed. Officer Hamm estimated the vehicle’s speed to be in excess of 125 miles per hour, and locked the vehicle on LIDAR at 150 MPH.
Officer Hamm conducted a traffic stop on the car - a rented Lamborghini Huracan Evo - and arrested its driver, an Illinois carpenter named James Rice… complete with a somewhat bizarre rehearsed speech about calculus and the energy of a vehicle in motion.
Speech aside, James D. Rice was arrested for reckless driving… however, as Real World Police was first to uncover and report, many of Nevada’s highest-speed speeding tickets are ultimately pleaded down to non-moving violations, and Mr. Rice’s reckless driving charge was no exception. James D. Rice ultimately pleaded out to the equivalent of a parking violation. He was required to take “level 2 traffic school,” which a court employee confirmed to Real World Police is an online class, and Mr. Rice had to pay over $1,000 in fines and fees. He has a non-moving violation on his record.
Drive safe, folks.

Ok with an expired temp license.🤣
What are you talking about? He never asked for the car to be released to him. There are a few places I'm seeing that someone might have confused what he was saying. He asks if anything can be done, but that was about his Dad being arrested (he asked if his Dad was getting arrested, the Officer said yes, then the kid asked if anything could be done). Then he says he doesn't have any "cards", the recording sort of fades so it may sound like he's saying something about the "car". But he just was talking about not having any cards that he could use to get his Dad out. He asked if someone was going to come get the car, but never asked if he could take it. He asked if he could take pictures. That all said, he *could* have had it released to him, if he had a current license. Still, I don't see anywhere where he was hoping they'd let him have it. To teach him about trigonometry.
Because certain traffic infractions are criminal. Theres traffic court and then there's criminal traffic court. Any criminal traffic offense is just like breaking a law and requires a court appearance.
Cop did him a big favor by not making him sit in jail, since cops do have some discretion.
In Florida, (my home state, not where this video took place) anything 20+ above the speed limit is wreckless driving, which is criminal traffic. A state trooper pulled me over doing 25 over the limit. He saw that i am on probation, and because I didnt argue with him and owned up to it, he used his discretion to lower the actual speed he clocked me at to 19 over the limit. Him doing this saved me a criminal offense, which would have triggered a violation of my probation.
$1,200 bail for speeding, yet in MOST of the country actual criminals, even with violent crimes, are being released on unsecured bail (basically a promise to come to court). Unreal
The guy has money. That's the difference
Policing for profit. It's a business. The $1,200 is pure profit for the state. Arresting and keeping violent criminals in custody costs the state a lot of money.
@@MaxZomboni the money gets returned when you go to court and the case is closed, that's how bail works
@@MaxZomboni Yea, that’s completely wrong. Bail is a monetary incentive to come to court. It’s your money, and gets returned to you. A fine goes to the state, and most fines are mainly extra costs. A police department gets around 5% of whatever the end fine is. End of the day, $1,200 bail for speeding is absolutely insane.
@@TheKoshtex No when you take traffic school they keep the bail money. Many years ago it used to be that when you completed traffic school they would refund your money minus a small administrative fee. But then they realized that people taking traffic school wasn't profitable for the states. So they changed it to where you take traffic school but you still have to pay the fine. Traffic enforcement is just a business.

I hate when people drive recklessly, they endanger the lives of me and my loved ones, but for god's sake this road is completely empty; unless his kid was pleading for his dad to slow down, the only people they will take out is themselves. The same people who complain about speeding on an empty road are the same people who are death gripping their steering wheels in the left lane of the highway going exactly 60mph. For real. Hot pavement so the tires won’t be sliding around, extremely flat and straight. I would totally understand getting pulled over and getting a serious talking to and maybe the most expensive ticket without being arrested if I didn’t have any warrants or illegal things in the car. I think the officer should’ve just done that as opposed to full on arresting the guy in front of his son. Imagine being such a friggin clown that you consider personal drug use (an adult exercising a right to choose what they put into their own body and involving no one else) as somehow being a more egregious "criminal act" than doing over double the speed limit in an unfamiliar vehicle on a public road potentially putting other drivers lives at risk... 🤡
I don’t think you understand how fast 150 is. You have no reaction time if something were to happen and you put yourself and others in danger just to have a bit of fun.
@@QuanCena220in a straight away in a desert? Give me a break
1:37 Those guys have to be going WAY faster than 150!
Lol
😂
😂😂
The fact that I went back to see how I missed this!
They were going Plaid...😂
Gotta chuckle ...and also shake my head...at the kid being concerned about getting pictures.
That was a memory well worth making with father and son!!
No way the tow truck driver just drove off in the lambo 🤣
He was like a teenage kid ...oh the excitement
I woulda kept the keys, and locked the doors. They violated his sons rights too.
The tow truck 🛻 driver called him an idiot as well, took his lambo keys 🔑 and went for a joyride to the impound lot
@@computerbiscuit and go to jail
@@CoberRuger You don’t go to jail if you got bail money kid.
I live close by, and doing that kind speed is incredibly irresponsible given the traffic, but I also get that he's in a rental Lambo and just having fun. There are areas outside of Vegas where you can do that sort of thing without much chance of being caught, but that area by I-11/US 95 is a well-known speed trap.
The traffic is pretty light and we have no idea how long he was doing 150 for. Remember, that thing can get up to and back down from 150 in seconds. I'm 100% positive he wasn't weaving in and out of traffic otherwise he'd be upside down in a ditch. I get it, it's dangerous, but there's SO many drivers on the road who are way more dangerous than a lambo doing 150 for a minute on a highway.
Where I live almost once a month we get some lunatic driving the wrong way on the highway.
@Woz Berry You must have missed the part where the officer said the Lambo zooming past other drivers @00:50
@@muskokamike127 I dunno, it's pretty dangerous to drive over _double_ the limit no matter what you're driving.
Rather have someone flying by me in a lamborghini at 150, than someone merging on a 75mph at 30, or a prius in the left lane 15 under the speed limit. Thing I noticed, especially since everyone has cellphones, the people driving the slowest, are the ones that are most likely to not be paying attention to the road at all. People need to learn that speed limits aren't there for your safety now. They were back when cars had 4-5x the stopping distance, accelerated 3 times slower, and were much more unsafe in an accident. US speed limits are incredibly outdated. Data shows as the speed goes up, accidents go down. And accidents in high speed areas are the large majority of the time cause by someone driving a large amount slower than traffic is moving.
@@bjkarana and it's pretty dangerous to ride a motorcycle at the speed limit. And it's pretty dangerous driving period. And it's pretty dangerous doing a whole shitload of things.
You do realize that these cars are literally designed to go that fast and more? I'm not saying you should do it all the time even in traffic, but there's a HUGE difference between doing 150 mph in a lambo vs doing 150 in a 1968 mustang. The vehicle is literally designed to handle BETTER at 150 than at 65 (aerodynamics).
During the plandemic toronto was in lockdown. The roads were barren during the day and the highways at night? You'd be lucky if you saw 1 vehicle in 15 mins. There were more cops on the highway than drivers. LOTS of guys were going out and opening her up and getting nailed. Everyone was freaking out "how irresponsible" yet if you get out of your fee fees, that's the PERFECT time to do it.....if you wipe out, you'll only take yourself out. The odds of even seeing another car are in your favour.
Had he called the cop out on the special bus math he would have gone to jail for real hahahaha
Cop is out there with no forms to do his job. Embarrassing
My husband got a speeding ticket when he was teaching our daughter to drive. We always have a good laugh about it. This kid will have years of fun teasing his dad
Lame
This is the most cordial arrest I've ever seen
Both guys were gentlemen, no yelling and attitude like we see all too often.
Cop was really cool with his son too, cop could have sent dad on to jail and told his son to have someone pick him up or get a Uber, but the cop was cool with them trying to accommodate the dad for the shortest stay and getting the son a ride with another officer so he could go be with his dad.
Doing 150mph in a Lambo: Priceless
I mean, that's what they were build to do..........
Actually it was priceless at all
He and his dad will laugh about this for the rest of their days. Make memories.
I only got up to 134mph in my Camaro.🤣🤣🤣
i think you mean "doing 150 in a lambo : $1,400 plus impound fees"
The guy was cool, got not angry and took it like a champ. Respect. All the best.
No sense stopping at that point, gonna get arrested anyway. Floor it, take a change, life's a gamble!
....until you crash with your kid in the front or end some other lives.
Sounds like you should probably avoid gambling.
The Pythagorean reference was painful at the least😂
Forget the excessive speed. The real crime is his shirt
Must have been Hawaiian Shirt Day.
😄😄😄😄
Tf does that have to do with Pythagorean theorem?
What a freaking great cop!!! Others should take lessons from this guy. Treat people like humans and not dogs.
💯‼️
I thing you ment dogs and not people
The guy he stopped acted the way you are supposed to act.
Blacks tend to fight cops for some reason… they are Africanized like the bees.
There is something wrong with them.
Well said.
He was polite, but the lecturing weirdness about Pythagorean Theorem has nothing to do with anything whatsoever.
I'll take him as an arresting officer any day for a reckless driving citation.
It's great to see what a difference cooperation and honesty makes.
If my dad was around I know we would be getting into stuff like this, from what I've been told he was a fast driver
My uncle used to utrun the all the time in the 70s and early 80s on his bike
What else are you supposed to do in a rented Lamborghini?
Make sure you have a radar detector at the least. If you want to go extra get a laser scrambler.
Take it to a track. They have one in Sloane. A few miles away from here.
On a lighter note; this will be great conversation over holiday dinners for decades :)
You know the guy at the end that got to drive was stoked
Damn Jeremy is starting to do so good he almost seems like an officer
ahh Motor1 is all grown up eh? 🤣
🤣
I mean there is no reason to rent a car like that without "trying it out". Looks like one of the safest roadways in America to do that.
This cop is like I’m not a smart man but I know what love is… - Forrest Gump
The guy says “I’m a carpenter” and the officer wants to talk physics 😂😂😂😂
That’s not calculus that’d be physics
This cop is begging this guy to be a jerk. He wants to say stop resisting so bad and just slam this guy. Him and his son stayed calm and didn’t take the bait.
Who the hell is going to rent a Lamborghini and go the speed limit?
