Personally when I'm aiming with a spotter plane at a broadside ship, I like to look at the target ship and visualize its citadel. Also, the circle and the target course line on the minimap help a lot.
Flamu has done a couple of videos on this topic. I'll give you the links to them. The first one with the Nagato helped me a great deal. I started killing targets in their smoke right after I watched it. I haven't watched the second one, but I'm going to watch it right now. However, I've found that sometimes I can go a couple of weeks without playing a ship that uses a spotter plane and it helps me to watch the video again. Here's the links: ruclips.net/video/KdUpctDNE9Y/видео.html ruclips.net/video/N6haRYdHDDs/видео.html
Yeah I generally avoid using the spotter plane simply because although it increases the range I just can't hit much with the perspective change. I instead take the fighter plane.
Thank you for making these Videos. The over all quality of WoWs players seems to be dropping like fly's. Even tho their are tonnes of CC vids teaching various skills. This is very well laid out and easy to digest. Once again Thank You! And happy late Bday!
Thanks and yeah, I think a new series is needed since I've noticed just how bad things have gotten in game lately. Hopefully when I'm done, it'll help the overall population get a bit better
Great tutorial! Although not very useful for me personally (been playing since 2015), this video would be super helpful for a beginner. I have always cringed at many replay analyses by various creators who seem to be trying to avoid the topic of bad aim because "that comes with experience". Yes I understand that constantly berating a new player for not aiming well isn't very useful advice, whereas things like positioning and map awareness provide much more talking points. But the truth is, where you are able to position often directly depends on who you can take on and win, which directly depends on fundamental skills like aiming. So in a sense, talking strategy without mastering the fundamentals is like a chess noob talking middlegame plans, a ten-year-old talking national politics. I'm sure I'll be linking this video to people a lot in the future.
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you install this crosshair? is it a mod or do I have to toggle some settings in the game, I can't seem to find it in the settings. I do have the steam version if It is helpful.
having about 400 hours in the game, i felt like i was hitting a wall with my skill improvement. i had no idea that different crosshairs could make such a big difference! definitely going to try it out and see if i can improve further or not
Until Nomogram becomes standard in the client I would also suggest some practice on the standard crosshairs as well. They may do a patch where Nomogram is not available, so being familiar the standard one is always a good idea too.
This is honestly such a helpful video. It makes no sense though why WG don’t just add the modded crosshair as an option rather than having it in the official mod pack, which many newbies does not have.
I need to get a better graphics card, sometimes the smoke doesn't render or starts after you've been looking at the ship for a few seconds. wasting time.
One of my favorite things about iChase is that he uses stats in a constructive manner. Not as a bragging right, but proof of places to improve in a positive way. Wish more people were like this, I love the videos!
And this is why people hate gaming, because of stats. Has taken the legit enjoyment out of it by those who now rely on stats, having no creativity to get better before stat gathering in games was a thing. Majority of people just dont care and want to enjoy the randomness. All you are chasing is numbers, not the experience.
I wish there was a last 50 games setting for stats and stuff. Very difficult to see if you are improving if you already have 200-300 games in a ship that you have had for 4 or 5 years.
Just found these the other day and have listened to the first 4. Most of my ships are Tier 6 and below, but I have to admit, after putting some of the hints into practice from Episode 3 - I have started getting some very high hit rates - at least in Co-op. Can't wait for the others.
Well, never been this early to any video. I have found that with most ships with a good shell speed, that you can just put that small circle where the direction line and circle around the enemy ship on the map intersect, and hit the most of the time. It also gives a good starting point to get next shells on target. I usually don’t use the information on the sight when lining up shots. Obviously my shots are off if I haven’t played a ship in a while but I have always been good at just eyeballing it.
iChaseGaming Part of it is the fact I use the stock dynamic sight which has some quirks where it is accurate on targets 20km out at 30knots. Past and before that you can’t follow the indicators exactly. Because of that I developed instinct for ship speed and where I should aim. I am sure using one the mod sights would help me be even better. Where do I find that official mods that you showed?
Well, I knew those but still, seeing them in this video approves my methods are ok and still teaches me new things such as that new crosshair and why to choose it
stefanos perivolaris the speed that a ships moves along the border depends on the angle they are at compares to the border. Closer to 90 degrees slower, closer to 180 faster. That is really all you have as a tool. I suggest firing your guns spaced out to account for errors until you have a more accurate read on the enemy ships speed.
The trick eith plane i have found is put the reticle on the ship and take a shot and see how shells land around it then adjust since each gun has its own archs
Aiming by feel is the best way. But it is good to finally know how to use the reticle. I can see it being helpful when using the Atlanta considering the long hang-time those shells have.
Excellent video, would like to see one on learning how to estimate shell fall on a target behind an island. I try to explain the concept to clanmates, and have even taken some into the training room to show them, but it doesn't seem to register. I think you could make an excellent video about it iChase.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I really appreciate the time and effort on your part to do these videos. I will be referring my entire Clan to your videos bro. LOVE THE GAME, FEAR THE DOOM
Im gonna say those guys with the high hit % and damage spend a lot of time farming damage on battleships whereas maybe you mostly go on seek and destroy missions against enemy DDs.
It depends on if people are trying to be stat hounds or not. I'm rather shocked to find that I am in the purple (99.9% percentile!) with some things and it's going to be very difficult to resist the temptation to climb the leaderboard with those for its own sake. For example I have a purple win ratio in randoms with a couple ships that I really like - and that's just from very casual play. But all it would take is for me spending the time to division up with someone to improve that. But at some point it becomes a game within a game, so to speak. I would no longer be playing WOWS just for fun. I would also be playing "Improve Stat with Ship X" which involves planning, making sure I am not drunk, tired, or spazzed out on energy drinks when doing so, etc. It would also mean playing that particular ship (which has a play style MUCH different than my usual ones!) much more often. All of this changes the whole dynamic of how I approach playing WOWS. It goes from a time-waster while I take a break between doing household chores into a stressful competition that could easily become an obsession. lol It's true what they say: Ignorance is bliss.
If you only play for stats it's not fun. To get teh kill is just teh last damgage done, not most damage done. Also many tend to get obsesed with soem stat and make silly choices...
2 remarks, if you are looking at a ship in wows-numbers in your ship list, if you click the Details link, you get a useful page that already compares you to the average for server and you can change that to top 5%, top 10% etc ... so no need to switch websites ... also does the Nomogram crosshair scale with binocular zoom ? As to the speed, I may have missed it, but you could have explained how to check is the target has speed boost active and the peculiarity of the French speed boost ...
Great video! I was wondering though, at about the 9:50 point in the video, you mention that the Georgia is moving at 39.85 knots...I didn't see that data on the screen...does that come from assuming the top speed of the ship with max modifiers?
Good instructions. Thank you! At 11:07 The Jean Bart top speed is 30 knots. You chose the 20 knot scale and made a perfect hit. The course is angled against you: but how did you know that the actual speed was 20 knots?
Thank you, I've been playing for some time now. So I'll put myself in the old dogs category ready to learn a few new tricks. I'm hoping you'll cover how to play carriers after the rework. (I just can't get the hang of them)
It all depends on what you're shooting at and with what. This game is really complex in that regard. If you're shooting BB AP at anything with a citadel, you'd love a chance at their waterline below the funnels against a broadside target. AP shells into the citadel is ideal whenever possible, but a lot of the time it just isn't possible. Beyond that, it really depends on whether your ship can overmatch their bow or stern. Shooting cruiser guns at BB's on the other hand, is more complicated. Then its a judgement call, usually between trying to pen the upper belt with AP for pen damage or using HE to the superstructure, bow, and stern, to try to deal fire damage by stacking fires. I usually try for AP if I think I can pen, and go HE if I am consistently bouncing or shattering shots. As to whether and where you can pen, its almost on a per-ship, per-gun basis. We'd be here all day. Find out what the specific guns you're shooting will pen with HE and AP. Against DD's with anything, load HE, aim for the engine compartment (where the citadel wold be on a cruiser) to both deal damage and KO their engine, slowing them down and/or forcing out damage control. Do it twice in a row and you've slowed their ship way down, or stopped them cold if they have a dumb build. Most DD's fall apart quickly to HE of most calibers in their matchmaking range.
This is Vindeus98 from the livestream, ign Vindeus, I genuinely had no idea about any of this... This video and the last video have taught me a great deal about how to set everything up and how to use it. Great video, please keep posting these vids, how the hell I've being playing the game this long without knowing this stuff and still being average is beyond me xD. I'll try this stuff out and let you know how I get on.
As a newbie, thanks for explaining. But I have bad eyesight and have difficulty seeing the small scale, is there a better option? I know there are other's, but I think they are static. Also its great to hear someone encouraging casual players, not everyone wants to turn the game into a bloodsport. Some ppl like myself, just want to blow off steam. I find my shots are hitting 60% using fire and adjust and torps 30-50% on avg.
Thanks for the video's :) I've been playing sinds beta but never got into the game fully. did grind up to Yamato (had that in Navyfield as well back in the day) but I suck at WOWs xD I feel these help so thanks for that.
I like the video and use similar strategy but I kinda use my brain to compute where that ship will be in the flight time of the shell. This also works when enemy is actively maneuvering
Tried to use all the new things I learned from this video but my game decided it would be a good idea to crash just when i started shooting at an enemy ship. After a """""quick""""" restart I had about 20% of my health left and there were 2 fires... It turnes out half of the enemy team is shooting at me for beeing "afk" in the middle of the ocean with zero cover. Only thing i could say in that round was GG
(Pay no attention to the grumpy old sailor who made the previous comment.) Good job - shorter, yet expands a bit on the video you did on the Aslain nomogram sight, which apparently has now made prime time. Here is a tactical question: Ships with wonky dispersion. (German battleships, probably even after the minor buff they are getting in 8.11.) I understand that you get a different dispersion roll for each gun when you ripple-fire or individually fire. Assuming that is correct, what do you think of ripple fire, etc. versus salvo for these ships? 30 seconds (or so) is a long time to wait for the next shot if RNJesus goes thumbs down on a salvo and your shots shotgun into the next map over.
I pretty much only salvo fire BBs, you want maximum chance on a properly aimed salvo for maximum damage potential. It's why dev strikes are almost exclusively salvos
I watched the first half of the video, changed my crosshair and tried it, and it was like a switch was flipped. But i was still having trouble with highly angled ships. so i came back and watched the second half, tried that technique and absolutely BLASTED a St with my FdG. unfortunately i was paying such close attention to the minimap that i ran right into an island before my shells landed and got distracted and missed the fireworks show. but thanks for the BLAT anyway, @iChaseGaming
1. Which mod is the little angle indicator under your shell flight time in bino mode? 2. Do you know what scale the Type 1 dynamic crosshairs are set at? I thought it was 30kn but they number spacing seems different than the Nomo dynamic 30kn number spacing.
I've been shooting with one turret and seeing the difference between shotting lower and higher. Then did the real challenge. Loading guns does suck though.
somewhat? amazingly useful tips! i started yesterday .. did pretty well but noticed some weaknesses .. mostly aimed by belly feeling.. which hit suprisingly good .. but nothing close to such numbers if not very short range where shots are direct hits more or less generaly another thing. does it make sense to use AP ammo on a better tanked ship .. at all? on bigger ships i default to HE and go for the modules .. which seems to work pretty well
As someone who thinks he aims well but has lousy stats I would say it is not the aiming but the positioning/range that is the difference. I have watched many, many World of Warships videos and have literally gone frame-by-frame on a few to see how the best are aiming. I do the same. Aim is not my problem...range and positioning is my problem. Knowing what range to citadel various ships is the key...one I still suck at (I am way too eager and charge in and suffer for it...I know it and still do it).
Well that Citadel thing is EXTREMELY dependand on wich ship you are shooting at with wich guns! So lets say, you are in a Yamato and shooting at a GK. There is no way you can get reliable Cita Hits on a GK so you go for more hits by Aiming for the mid of the hull, or when angeled, the Superstructure, because the Bow is quite Yamato proof. Then again, when talking about maybe a Brit BB or Cruisers on general, aiming for the waterline or when sharply angled for bow or stern will gibe you the greatest chance for scoring Citadels, by potentially loosing some hits due to hitting the water in Front of the ship. All in all, its up to you to know, if you can Citadel the Ship at all, or to know at wich part of the Ship you can do so. So experience and knowledge are maybe even a bigger factor to this than the aiming technique.
Can't get the reticle mod to work. I downloaded the mod station and told it to install the mod before launching the game, but there is no drop-down to change to the modded reticle in the reticle selection menu.
I have never seen bullets or shells if that’s what you want to call them? travel so slow to it’s target till I started playing World of Warships seems like it takes forever and these maps are so small the ships are not very far apart even scaled down seems like only a couple of hundred yards and when I fire you can see how slow the shells travel thru the air and seems like it hovers over the target another 2 or 3 seconds before dropping and making contact now I’ve only been playing a few months but I’m not sure how I feel about theses slow traveling Salvos it’s very frustrating to me but I do find the game fun and sometimes relaxing to play at times and the Ships are very detailed hope they keep refining the look of the maps and ships for years to come.
Im currently grinding the Nelson, want a free prem BB to grind credits, Nelson any good or hang on to the free XP so when a bigger tier prem ship come along?
It depends, Nelson is a pretty good ship that' s going to teach you when to show broadside and when to angle. Sadly nowadays free xp ships are worth much more than they used to be and Nelson remains unchanged so she's very much worth it if you aren't gonna get another premium. If Missouri was still around I' d tell you to wait.
The music makes me think of some Country Kitchen cooking episode
I was thinking that... Thought I had the wrong video.

Can you make a video on how to aim with a spotting aircraft? I have yet to see any video in how to use a spotting plane for gunnery.
Personally when I'm aiming with a spotter plane at a broadside ship, I like to look at the target ship and visualize its citadel. Also, the circle and the target course line on the minimap help a lot.

Yeah, it's definitely going to be an episode in this series, probably soon too
Yeah I generally avoid using the spotter plane simply because although it increases the range I just can't hit much with the perspective change. I instead take the fighter plane.
I was pretty bad at it, but after playing the Lazo for a while, I'm average now.
Good stuff, I come back to this vid when I get a bit despondent about my long-range shooting. Thanks for the series, great for a beginner.
I’ve been using the nomogram Classic crosshair for about six months now and it’s improved my aim no end especially at long range.
Yeah! :D I'm glad you're getting positive results from it
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how do you install this crosshair? is it a mod or do I have to toggle some settings in the game, I can't seem to find it in the settings. I do have the steam version if It is helpful.
ZeroDefault it's a mod. I think it's in WG's own modstation.

Which crosshair is the standard? I've been using Static 5 a lot. What annoys me is that none of the crosshairs move like in the video above.
I think it was dynamic@@AndrewWhiteKhanty
This is honestly such a helpful video. It makes no sense though why WG don’t just add the modded crosshair as an option rather than having it in the official mod pack, which many newbies does not have.
A REALLY helpful video Chase! ..... I just looked at my stats.... nowhere to hide from those, so time to get out there and try to apply your advice.
When I'm aiming I just look at the ships smoke and estimate the speed and I shoot, getting good results. Still waiting for Slava
I need to get a better graphics card, sometimes the smoke doesn't render or starts after you've been looking at the ship for a few seconds. wasting time.
I hate the ships that have flames and no smoke. Grr.
Haha, 1000+ games in and I didn’t know about the small circle on the minimal for to/from traveling angled ships. Nice video ichase
Adam Cook that’s circle is very useful to shoot at people behind the island
Another video for this series? Awesome! I look forward to how this series will go
One of my favorite things about iChase is that he uses stats in a constructive manner. Not as a bragging right, but proof of places to improve in a positive way. Wish more people were like this, I love the videos!

Ok, that minimap trick for angled ship is a life changer. Never thought of that. Thank you !
I have known the small aiming cycle on the minimap but I have only used it to blind fire enemy ship in smoke. Thank you, iCG, for the guide.
yeah, it can have other uses :)
I wish there was a last 50 games setting for stats and stuff. Very difficult to see if you are improving if you already have 200-300 games in a ship that you have had for 4 or 5 years.

That crosshair makes nailing DDs easier... the basic dynamic you almost have to x3 the time to distance to hit a speeding DD
Well, I knew those but still, seeing them in this video approves my methods are ok and still teaches me new things such as that new crosshair and why to choose it
These videos are great!! VERY useful. Just got into WoW after my first pc build and I'm loving it. Ty!
Good morning from the Netherlands, at least here it is 7:00 am now. I still remember the first aiming video from the Captains Academy!
I’m digging this series of videos. Very informative and useful. I wish I had learned a lot this when I first started playing

U should try and show how to hit a gliding ship at the border and how they could use properly the spotting aircraft mode
stefanos perivolaris the speed that a ships moves along the border depends on the angle they are at compares to the border. Closer to 90 degrees slower, closer to 180 faster. If you have the time, shooting clays helps too. I did that a few years ago and my aim/lead got much better after just 1 box of shells.
Kind'a tough on the monitor though..

Great! Thanks a lot!
*half of the shots land behind the ship third of them in front and rest overpen*
The Video starts at 4:50
So helpful. Thanks.
How do I get that crosshair....
why that corsair have 2 measurement how do i get it
Thanks You have helped me a lot!
Thank you for saving me the math. 5:47
Just starting this series; looks good; hope it will help my terrible aiming; one thing; I don't have the circle on target using mini-map.
The game doesnt give me choices for the dynamic crosshair, and mine doesnt look anything like that, please help!
Great series... Thank you
Sure would be easier to share this with my friends if we had a playlist going.
ruclips.net/p/PLoRQa0D7yVpc4bTSbXYZ8uHw-CSKvhvbp and playlist!
where do I find this crosshair? can't undestand what chase is saying
Awesome :-) another superb tips and advice from you :-) thank you :-)
As a newbie, thanks for explaining.
Thank you, very informative.
Seven Salty Seamen disliked this?! LOL
Better players equals better experience. Thanks for the guides Bro!
You're welcome :)
I like these videos. You have the same feel as Spirit of the Law from Age of Empires II.
(Pay no attention to the grumpy old sailor who made the previous comment.) Good job - shorter, yet expands a bit on the video you did on the Aslain nomogram sight, which apparently has now made prime time. Here is a tactical question:
Ships with wonky dispersion.
It's why dev strikes are almost exclusively salvos
are u going to make a commentary of how to aim with a spotter plane?
yup, gonna work on that too
Thank you for that in advance.
Good Video,Hope u can show more secret art aiming moskva,henry4 and stalingrad at 20km sniping
I watched the first half of the video, changed my crosshair and tried it, and it was like a switch was flipped. But i was still having trouble with highly angled ships. so i came back and watched the second half, tried that technique and absolutely BLASTED a St with my FdG. unfortunately i was paying such close attention to the minimap that i ran right into an island before my shells landed and got distracted and missed the fireworks show. but thanks for the BLAT anyway, @iChaseGaming
very informative video!
1. Which mod is the little angle indicator under your shell flight time in bino mode? 2. Do you know what scale the Type 1 dynamic crosshairs are set at? I thought it was 30kn but they number spacing seems different than the Nomo dynamic 30kn number spacing.
Very helpful info :)
Thank you.
LOVE the background at the start of this video. Can I also have one like this?
Thank you and special thanks to *FTHP*
good video your tips have worked well for me thanks ps good build for kremlin ?
These vids are really helpfull.
9:50 How do you know Georgia is moving at 39.85 knots?
Can someone answer?
I've been shooting with one turret and seeing the difference between shotting lower and higher. Then did the real challenge. Loading guns does suck though.
somewhat? amazingly useful tips!
i started yesterday .. did pretty well but noticed some weaknesses .. mostly aimed by belly feeling.. which hit suprisingly good .. but nothing close to such numbers if not very short range where shots are direct hits more or less generaly
another thing. does it make sense to use AP ammo on a better tanked ship .. at all? on bigger ships i default to HE and go for the modules .. which seems to work pretty well
As someone who thinks he aims well but has lousy stats I would say it is not the aiming but the positioning/range that is the difference. I have watched many, many World of Warships videos and have literally gone frame-by-frame on a few to see how the best are aiming. I do the same. Aim is not my problem...range and positioning is my problem. Knowing what range to citadel various ships is the key...one I still suck at (I am way too eager and charge in and suffer for it...I know it and still do it).
this was so helpfull
so what numbers should we be loking at accuracy? etc..and where should that number be..thx
Thx for all the knowledge, could you explain how to get consistent citadel hits and how to aim with a spotter plane ?
Thanks ! Love your hard works
Yeah, that's something that's coming for sure
very helpful I was able to do better after the first video
Thank you this was helpfull.
For aiming at angled ships, the spider web version of the crosshair can make it quite a bit easier.
I tried it, it was to busy for me.
Why is the game in 2021 nothing like these videos.
@@mishkata348 yea. I hate when content is set limited,
@@mab2187 good ship
Maybe something about choosing the reticle?
