    This is a video that fits into the select "must-watch" category. Seriously. If I was starting a clan I would expect all members to watch AND incorporate the elements you pointed out. I have 13k matches and can say there's nothing of import I can add to your tips. Very well done Notser ... you packed a lot of useful information into a short period of time. New players who want to improve should watch this, play some, and re-watch. Rinse and repeat untill everything in this vid is second nature. You will become an asset to any team you are on.

      I dunno, I feel like most of this video is completely uneeded for me. I can judge the shot just by looking at the ship and using the horizontal line of the scope as kind of a level to know what the elevation of my shot is going to be, adjusting to compensate for them heading towards or away to me. As well you get used to shooting ships behind islands and understand your shells arcs pretty quickly on a ship. I'm no super player, it just takes practice. Maybe 20 battles if you've played something similar to this game before, 50-100 if you've never played a game like this before.
      If you want to learn I'd recommend purchasing the Yubari from the Arsenal to practice shooting HE. It's got pretty good and accurate HE guns and with the upcoming CV rework it's heavier AA might pay some dividends. Then play the Emerald (British TV cruiser). It's a garbage ship but once you've mastered shooting on the Yubari you should be able to handle shell aiming even on the crappy Emerald. Playing the Emerald with it's crappy AP guns with no HE option will teach you how to adjust your shooting when you run into AP rounds that cannot pen or shatter. Killed a BB last night with my Emerald by shooting for high bow/stern and shooting for superstructure as if I was using HE shells. Even with it's high arcs if you've mastered Yubrai shots this is the next step.
      Once you can consistently land damaging shots on the Emerald you should be ready to shoot on basically any ship. AP rounds are easy compared to HE, as Noster said just aim center ship for the waterline. Close range you'll pen from the side, long range you'll pen from a top down high angle shot. And if you run into a case where you keep getting shatters because your AP is overmatched just remember your time on the Emerald and adjust your aim similarly.

    Noster,
    Just wanted to say how much I, for one, appreciate your world of warship videos. They have made the game far more enjoyable since I've started watching them and whenever I get a new ship, before I ever take it out of port, I reference to see what you have to say about the subject matter. Hopefully others have had the decency to pass along their thanks because the amount of time you put into these videos is truly selfless and as I said earlier very much appreciated. Keep up the outstanding work.
    Best Regards,
    Patrick O'Flanagan

    as for lead, smoke dissipates in 3.6 seconds, so you can calculate lead by watching enemy ship smoke+shell flight time. works very well against ships not sailing at their max speed

    Maybe someone already mentioned this, but the ticks can't be seconds, as the ticks would have to change with the distance of the point you're looking at (I don't mean zoom), as optically the distance travelled by object far away is shorter than distance travelled by an object being closer. The ticks are some kind of angle marks.

    Some couple of additions that are worth mentioning. Know the approximate speed of your opponents. If faster than reticule speed than add time to shot, slower use a shorter time. Battleships under 30 knots at low tiers up to slightly over at high tiers, reduce by about 10% to right on shell flight time, or aim slightly further back on ship. Cruisers are usually slightly over 30 knots, I add approximately 10% to shell flight time, or put shell flight time at nose not citadel. Destroyers tend to be much faster than 30 knots, I go at around 150% of flight time (half again the flight time, ie. 5 sec flight time, aim at 8 sec). Smoke stack can tell you approx % of speed. Straight up or no smoke is stopped, straight back is full speed. Target angle can also change aiming. Broadside is flat. The more the ship is angled the shorter the aiming time is till it reaches 0 when they are bow or stern on to you. Also you need to raise if the ship is kiting or going away, lower the point of aim if they are coming towards you. Use the water line of ship to judge angle and aim along that line.

  • @Jrande2003

    Aiming in Warships is a vector magnitude problem that takes into consideration factors related to the cosine function and time. If the ship is at an angle of 45 degrees that is an indication that the seconds should be halved as the cosine of 45 decrees is 1/2. 1/2 times the seconds to target gives the correct seconds for where you want your shells to fall. Moreover, as Noster said speed is also a factor so: using all the variables Sd (.01 - 1)x( Cos (Theta))x(seconds) should give the correct number for placement of the reticle. I use Stiv 372 and the angle indicator from Mod Stations. Once you get a feel for it then it becomes second nature and calculations are not needed.

    I agree with most tips on here except for turning on all the settings on the minimap. As helpful as they can be, they can obscure your minimap with all that mess if you happen to have a small screen. Though people with a bigger monitor may consider turning on those features.

    That was extremely helpful. I'm actually pretty good at Fame, but I find that my damage output is often less than others with similar weaponry. Now I know why. And to be honest, I didn't really now what the gradations on the crosshairs meant. I use them, but now I can use them more effectively taking my shots. The one thing I was always really bad at was aiming when the Scout plane was up. Now I think I will be much better.

      diagonal towards you or on the turn towards you... 2 different things.
      If he is going straight in a diagonal towards you just judge the speed and than look at the minimap and put your aiming circle on his vector.
      If he is turning you always have to take into consideration that ships don't turn but drift ... so if he turns towards you aim slightly to the outside of his turn to hit him bang on.

      and still this video like many others doesn't explain aiming as it really is. the numbers on the aiming reticule don't work at all ranges. You don't aim at a certain number on that line at 8 seconds shell travel time and then if the shell travel is 16 seconds you just aim double that number. Hence this video like others tell only a fraction of the story.

      @@ripptorr explain to me

    • @ripptorr
      @ripptorr 4 года назад

      @@Bakotcha this is an earlier message of mine, se if you can understand from it:
      Sorry but the crosshairs aren't scaled to 20 or 30 kts. Of course, at a certain range it's bang on like described in the video but try and aim at a target moving at 30kts 26kms away for example with the yamato. The shell travel time will be around 15-16 seconds. Try and aim at the 15th mark (using the dynamic crosshair let's say) and see if you hit the target bang on in the middle. I can assure the shells will land in front. What the ticks do is help you judge the ship's size and aim at a certain distance in front of it, nothing more. Over time, a player will only look at the shell travel time and do a quick estimate of the ship's speed and take the shot without looking at the ticks anymore.

    • @Bakotcha
      @Bakotcha 4 года назад

      @@ripptorr Understandable, have a good day.

    • @ripptorr
      @ripptorr 4 года назад

      @@Bakotcha To understand better you should lead the shots unsing the ship's size. The numbers just help you approximate this size at different ranges. If you test this le's say you get to a certain scenario. You aim at a ship that is at 10km distance and the shell travel time is 6 seconds. To hit the middle of the ship you have to aim at 1/3 of the ship's length ahead, whatever this lenght is in the units on your reticle will depend on the ship itself, let's say it's 8 units from the center of the ship ok?
      Now, at bigger range, say 17km you will have 12 seconds of shell travel time, in which the ship will move forward double the initial distance, meaning 2/3 of it's length, so you will have to aim this amount further from the ship's center.
      And here is the catch: at 17 km distance, the ship will be way smaller in your view but the units on the screen remain static, so you will have to size the ship again, let's say it appears to be 5 units lenght at that range, but you have to lead your shot 2/3 ship lenghts ahead, so that is 3,3 units. So you point the crosshair 3,3 units away from the ship's center in that case.
      Basically you will find out that as the range increases, you will aim way closer that you are told to in all of these aiming guides that don't take into account that the ship's size changes relatively to the units on the screen at different ranges, hence it is WRONG to say smth like: you have 6 seconds travel time you aim at X units ahead, if you have 12 seconds travel time you aim at 2X units ahead.
      See the idea? you have estimate the actual distance that the ship travels in a number of seconds, and that distance you can only correctly estimate using the ship length, for the begining you can estimate this using the units but with experience, you will do this by eye, and you will not look at the numbers. Experienced players do this instinctively, oddly enough they were unable to explain this so far :)

      Agreed mate ! In the old days I used to think that type of aiming formula... but then after the FR CA coming, I feel this formula is abit off... because its scale based on the speed. Then I make some correction with that formula, now I usually put in speed scale like...
      40 knot (Like khaba) = 2.5x
      Or put it simply, I used to put the exact travel time per ship class like...
      For DD (40 knots) = 2x time travel put the point at the edge of the bow
      For CA (35 knots) = 1.5x time travel put the point at the citadel, or u can put 1x time travel at the edge of the bow
      For BB (30 knots or less) = 1x time travel put the point at the citadel or magazine
      And yeah the dynamic reticular lacks of variety, we really need angling line like the static one XD

    Thank you. I am a LATE starter in this game (less than a month ago) and, I really appreciate your videos. Good attitude, very neutral observations and being blunt about your observations mistakes and potential ideas during a battle is very informative. Thank you. Between you and, jingles (for different reasons) you guys have the best videos. As a side note.....I understand you are not the game designer but any reason the 180mm is not more widely used? Such a great round and wish it was more wide spread. So leading into my request. Could you do a video on caliber sizes, shell velocity and penetration values in relation to the armor needed? I understand the basics of shell size vs armor value and the basic modifiers of dividing by 4 or 6 (depending on the nation) but is there a different value added on when using shell velocity? I mean.....does the Russian CAs and the Italian CAs get a bonus on penetration values due to SOLELY high velocity values of the shell? I know Germans get the divide by 4 but, I am not grasping how shell velocity adds into the equation or if it is another factor entirely (in game mechanic terms, as, I understand real world values)? I mean...does the, Duca D'aosta have a better penetration (I know it gets more over pens) than another cruiser with the same caliber gun with the divided by 6 modifier? How many mm's does the shell velocity add onto penetration or due to a lower shell velocity detract from the penetration? I mentioned the, Russians as well because of their high velocity shells but the CAs do not get the divided by 4 modifier....so....how are these calculations included in the gam and what is the equation?

    As something of a follow-on, do you have any advice with difficult situations such as the U.S. 6" and 5" shells at range. The target has time to turn around, get a cup of coffee and grab two CAPs before they land. Would you double-click to salvo, which is what I see most of the good players do, or might it be better to click and hold to fire sequentially? It might be better to spread the salvo vertically or horizontally to hedge a course or speed change. Alternatively, dispersion, sigma value, and the apocryphal RNGesus may automatically do that for you.
    Excellent video. Played this game for years without knowing about the alternative interface, etc. (Gnarly, wrinkly, stinky potato) I learned some of it a piece at a time through your videos, iChase, Flambass, etc. But this puts a lot of it together.

    aiming at stationary ships is one thing, moving ships totally different matter. aiming has changed quite a lot with all the "default" captain skills, these days. you need to be clairvoyant and guess the right direction a ship will turn once you unleashed your salvo, mostly over are the times where you can just aim at the waterline and score a hit. I have that down ok, my biggest problem is when a ship comes at me at an angle at greater distances, there is a "sweetspot" of angle where aiming for me is a nightmare

      Only if he's the last target left. But it can be done.
      There is a recent video from Flamu, where he nails a DD from 20km with a Yamato I believe. Could be a Musashi as well.

    I'm having problems aiming with the Musashi. It seems to me that the shell flight time to target indicator (in seconds, the one to the left of the aimpoint) is totally off.
    It seems the actual shell flight time is shorter than what the indicator says. For example, if the enemy ship is going at about 30 knots and the indicator says flight time is 14 seconds, then if I give a 14-dot lead on the sight, the shells will actually get there faster and hit the water in front of the enemy ship. Has anyone noticed this? I know the Musashi/Yamato have a pretty fast muzzle velocity but I thought the shell flight time indicator would be scaled to the actual ship you're using at the moment, so shell velocity shouldn't matter. This is something I've only noticed on my Musashi. I have no problems aiming accurately with any other ship.

    I have a lot of trouble with off angle targets. Moving toward or away from me especially at 45 degrees to, say, 75 degrees. There is no aiming reticule to aid with off angle shots like that, especially on smaller targets. So it's difficult for me to land shots when people are angled on me. Especially in USN cruisers because the shells are so slow and lofty that hitting anything past 12km is for me impossible.

    Hi there Notser, that was a great video about aiming tutorial. I want to ask, how do you aim a ship that is turning towards or away from you ? Obviously you need to reaim, but how specifically ? Can you make a tutorial video about how to aim on ships that heading towards you or turning away from you ? Thanks.

    Bit off topic, but what is Free XP used for? Been told not to use it for ships in the tech tree, but if you're short by few thousand why not? Thanks😀

    I only aim waterline if the ship is very very close, like 8km or less. Otherwise with dispersion i always aim for the deck, Because some of the shots will land at waterline.

  • @wtpiv6041

    What irks me is the different nations require different heights of aiming for that citadel. Some you need water line and some you need to aim like 3/4 up the side of the ship.

    I honestly find it a bit too timeconsuming in a lot of situations to double check the lead indicator.
    Its much more effective to learn to do it by intuition alone, of course that brings other problems, for example if you switch to a ship with different shell velocities and shell trajectories. But its not hard to learn and to adapt.

    (NOTSER) can you make a video on if you guns can pen another ship like how the math is figured out if the caliber of your gun can penetrate the enemy BB or CL or what ever your fighting. But how can some tell if you should be using AP on the ship or if your H.E. can pen it. Because people don't know if its a good idea to shoot at the hull or to shoot at the superstructure I have been noticing. So maybe people need a little bit of help with that kind of stuff. Because I know there is a mathematical equation and solution to figuring it out but I myself forget what it is to figure out if my ships can pen another ship.
