What’s crazy is people’s willingness to overlook corporate greed doesn’t even have to extend as far as giving up your likeness. Netflix announced that they were gonna do away with password sharing, people complained, they did it anyway, people paid. People are not willing to inconvenience themselves on any level once they’ve gotten used to an arbitrary comfort and these companies know that.
Their only other option is to not watch that content, the reason they paid for it in the first place was to watch that content. They’re not gonna pleased if they stop paying for it. Netflix could make their prices 5 bucks more right now and people would still pay.
@@dibsdibs3495 the point is collective bargaining has proven to be a thing that works. this kind of reasoning is why people as a whole constantly give in rather than shoulder even the slightest inconvenience in order to instigate change. If even a fraction of the people complaining about the password share just canceled their accounts for one quarter that would be enough time to send any company into defcon. Profiteering relies on the instant gratification of constant profit. But hey you get what you pay for and the funny thing is the other companies are waiting to see how this goes before they follow suit… so I hope everyones prepared because within the next five years every streamer will either have a family plan or you pay for your own and we all will have brought it on ourselves

I don’t understand the critics saying this episode was “awful” this episode was amazing and really puts into perspective the use of social media today. Just wow.
The humor was quite corny to me, and A lot of the behaviors of everyone seemed weird like the writers (maybe in-universe AI writers?) are amateur. Still trying to process it after just watching it. It was fine seeing characters act exaggeratedly in Salma’s show, but not every character. I came up with many questions about why things were playing out the way they were, and why the show kept emphasizing that Hayek is here like I care, and the answer was “because it was all a dream”
@MarvelousMaggie I mean even SALMA F*CKING HAYEK didn't mind it..... Why would anyone mind, they're getting paid for it and not actually showing their a*shole or anything
I could not stop laughing at this episode when I first saw it. I was watching with my friend. Once it got to the end, I was like this is insane! And loved every second of it.
One more thing I just noticed is that Joan as Ani Murphy, was still acting like Ani Murphy from schitts creek just like Joan as Salma Hayek was acting like Hayek from that Gangstar wife movie. Because they both are not real Joan but AI versions.
What a lot of people don’t understand is this isn’t super far in the future. There are some actors already talking to studios about selling their digital rights and licensing them. If you are in LA or NYC as an actor right now, in our acting classes a lot of us are already talking about what may or may not happen in the next few years within AI and licensing our digital likeness. But there are so many unknowns as well.
I appreciate that this Episode tries to, in a small way, recapture that “discomfort” that the first few seasons had. That is kind of what really grabbed me about this show in the first place and was something that has been missing from the last couple of seasons. I need to rewatch episode 2, but 1 and 3 were stellar stories to tell and I am somewhat glad they use new devices, Comedy in this episode, to grab our attention and keep us interested. I can’t wait to finish this season, Joan Is Awful was a great opener.
Here's a thought: When Annie-Joan was inside the computer room with the axe (after realizing she was inside a show), and she was saying if she kills the computer it's because Real Joan already did it, would any of what we were seeing be happening if Real Joan had hacked (literally) the computer? What Annie-Joan and Salma-Joan (within her own show) were seeing was a certain amount of time after it happened. If Real Joan killed the computer, everything within the computer would have stopped instantaneously, and we wouldn't be seeing anything. In other words, we shouldn't have even been seeing Annie-Joan swinging the axe. That only happened because the computer made it happen, but Real Joan destroyed the computer a time before.
Exactly, they defiantly botched the ending. Additionally in what world would anybody be able to own a business after fucking with a mega cooperation. They would be knee deep in lawsuits, they would be lucky if they could own the shirt on their back.
Maybe we could see it cause the computer still could reproduce images of what happened. It's like that was the last minute of the series until it got destroyed or something like that, cause the editing is almost instantaneous. I actually had another odd moment in mind. When Annie-Joan is finding out that she's a "copy" of the real Joan, then also the "real" Joan had that same conversation? And if that's so how is that possible considering she is supposed to be the original one? Also Annie when the machine gets destroyed looks at her hands, probably realizing she's still alive, but why wouldn't she think the opposite if she's the original actress... or is she?
What I like about this show is how close to reality it really is. AI is a very powerful tool nowadays. Someone could take your voice and make you say something that you would normally never say and ruin your life. Scammers have used it. That poor youtuber had her face deep faked onto a adult entertainment star and got bullied over it even though it wasn't her in the film. And let's be honest, these tech companies are tracking us. I go to search something on google and it autofill for me before I even type in the second letter.
10:00 OMGGG DUDE!!!! We said the same exact thing! She could’ve easily pulled that off! But the moment I said that, my husband looked at me with suspicious eyes 😭😂😂😂😂
A bit of basic knowledge of Contract Law makes this premise fall apart. Believe it or not, Netflix TOC can't legally get you to sign away your entire life in this manner. Or at least, if they tried it would be struck down by a judge as soon as any subscriber pushed back. A contract requires "consideration" which means Joan would have to get something of substantial value in exchange for the things she's giving up. Contracts can't be wildly one-sided. Selma Hayak at least got paid for her likeness, but Joan received nothing for the extreme level of privacy invasion. There's a reason most movies have "Not based on real people or events" somewhere in their credits.

Love this show… one thing I don’t understand is Joan the source is living her life and Joan level 1 is the digital version broadcasting same day at later time so when they broke the server the real Joan appeared I would think the real Joan would be physically in a different location
And if Joan had "already done it" the show would have ended before Annie M ever even saw the computer but suddenly the show was synchronous with real time. Silly me, I thought they would play it straight -- Annie could not possibly smash the computer because Joan obviously had not succeeded in stopping the show

There is a better sf story they didn't do-- the story where after Krish leaves Joan realizes it is Netflix... she can binge the show into her future. (But so can everyone else.)
I thought they would do this for a bit. First she'd be unsure what to do and how to move forward so she'd fast forward through the episode until it's ahead of her. Like that scene in spaceballs. Then maybe she'd reach the end of the season and have no choice but to figure out the rest herself.
But it's not predicting the future tho, it's in the past based on the data collected through her phone. If she sat there watching the show, her "clone" in the show would also do the same and nothing would happen. I don't think there will be new episodes if nothing "spicy" happens in her life. Also, after Krish leaves, it cuts to a morning where she is driving to work. It didn't say that she left for work the next day, it could be that some days later when she realised no new episodes are coming.

Ow you didn't watch the end credit scene
Why is Robert Pattinson the smallest on your T shirt when he's four inches taller than Keaton and just short of Affleck by less than two inches .
probably went by dick size
He's standing in a hole
Is the audience on rotten tomatoes review bombing this show recently? Because this show is amazing!
