When you consider how much Joan's behavior was exaggerated in the Salma Hayek version it makes you wonder how much they exaggerated the Annie Murphy version compared to Source Joan
You know what's real gruesome? There is an infinite amount of levels each being more awful than the other, filled with sentient beings. There muste be an infinite number of hells that level two and three must look priviliged compared to.
“Joan Is Awful” was the most interesting BM S06 episode that I enjoyed. It was definitely “black mirror”-ish content. Made me remember the older episodes.
It's so stupid. This entire episode made me roll my eyes. If anyone in a streaming service put such terms and conditions you can still sue them. If a company does something illegal they can still be sued, because the law always is above such agreements, if anything that is illegal done by a company, contract or not they can still be sued so the lawyer saying they got this water tight is so stupid. I absolutely disliked the episode.
@@JKRowl Exactly. That's why the fine prints should be read first regardless of whatever a person has or wants to sign. It doesn't matter how long or how many pages the documents are always read it first.
I kinda thought twist was gonna be that the entire thing was some kind of simulation that her therapist had put her through to help with her mental health. Like she said she didn’t feel like the main character of her own life, so the simulation showed her what that would be like. I guess that’s kinda played out at this stage with Black Mirror though so I’m glad it wasn’t actually that.
Some people were not fans of how Salma Hayek was depicted, but I think it completely makes sense that it wasn't actually her. It was just how AI conceptualizes her, with all those random spanish words thrown around and those funny curses. Like when she calls herself "a dyslexic talented actress with questionable English" definitely sounds like a robot or something.
@@survey9728 The original one who got arrested in the end. As for CGI and digital AI of actors and actresses turned out some of the Hollywood's elites hated it while others liked it and probably signed contracts allowing their likes to be used.
It was entertaining, as a comedy horror on its own it could be really good but as a huge Black Mirror fan it was very disappointing and silly to me in that context I can't express my disappointment with the whole season minus Loch Henry which could have been great and Beyond the Sea which didn't fit in the middle of this season at all
This episode felt the most true to its roots in the Black Mirror universe. I can't get enough of these social commentary tech horror nightmares. A lot of the episodes this season weren't that and it disappointing to me personally. Good season overall though.
i think it also makes a point about how negative we as a society are. i mean, its nothing we can rlly blame anybody for. theres a reason why dramas, literally just being drama, appeal to us so much. we obsess over what's negative too much often, and that's jus kinda how it is
I think it's caused by our brains being kind of problem-solving machines. If everything is just ok, no conflict, no flaws, no challenges, there's nothing to do, nothing to think about, nothing to solve. Why would we watch it?
One part in the ep that got me thinking.. the scene where michael cera shows up and explains to joan (annie murphy) about how the world they live in is simulated by AI based off source Joan -- what conversation was happening in real life? 😮
That moment where annie murphy's joan says "I've already made the decision in real life" about breaking the quamputer .. was that the Ai having a mind of its own? 😊😊
I’m honestly shocked I haven’t seen Beyond the Sea in this list yet. Not so much about Mazey Day and Demon 79 (even if you mention Michael Smart), but really shocked about that episode not popping up yet. I remember watching it and thinking “I can’t wait to see his review on this”
The very fact that a part of the SAG strike is how they want to pay background actors for one day of work and use their likeness in other works, just proves this can happen. That's the craziness of Black Mirror that it takes ideas that are very real, maybe enhances it but still it's not that far off
The fact that that joan annie murphy and actual annie murphy were so different still blows me away…i rewatched it like 3 times wondering is that the same actress 😂
I think the message of "we criticize society but WE ARE society" from 15 million merits is what sums up black mirror and irl issues so well, like it always ties back to that
Does anybody else remember that Netflix subtly changed their loading screen from an N to an S when this season came out? It was only for the first day I think
What I can’t figure out is why nobody else is freaking out like Annie-Joan was. Like everybody was so cool about it. Mainly the assistant. Like why he ain’t flip out and try to find source assistant? Why wasn’t Krish curious about source Krish?
That what I wonder too. I guess since Joan is the only one who is portrayed negatively, and everyone else is portrayed as the victim, so of doesn’t really affect them as much as it did Joan. But true, they seem so casual about it.
Joan could absolutely settle out of court if she makes a case against Streamberry. There are so many lawyers who'd take on a case like this. It's got everything: manipulative terms, exploitation, HIPAA violations, weaponized privacy and tracking... Hell, just call up the DoD and say, "I sure hope you don't have any service members with a Streamberry subscription," and the government would probably intervene on Joan's behalf.
I can't get over how people went outrage over the Disney teen episode saying it "felt like they suddenly were on another channel"... Sometimes the point is so obvious people miss it.
Another easter egg is when Annie Murphy tells Salma Hayek « you are Salma Hayek » and she answers « thank you », like that famous meme « you are Beyoncé - thank you »
I'm just gotta say I'm so proud of your video evolution Bryce, you had great analysis videos a few years ago and they just continue to get better. And you show your face now!! (It's been a while, dumb algorithm). And the analysis of this, incredible as always!
it's really minor but it drives me crazy that this ep was set basically in the present but they still included easter eggs from events could/would not have happened yet in the black mirror universe.
it reminds me of the first episode, how everyone could have just not watched a man fck a pig but they did, if I remember correctly their reaction maybe would have resulted in him not having to do that but they kept pressuring him to do it, if nobody tuned in, nobody would have known if he did it or not but they all tuned it
I am now convinced that the whole show episodes are just simulations and not real. This explains why they are connected but the same time they are not. Every episode is a SIMULATION. While some are revealed to be simulations at the end of the episodes, we just have to assume that it was a simulation.
One thing I realized about this is that since our Joan is already on a show then the version WE see is actually already overdramatized so she probably wasn't really any bad at all...
What confuses me is when it goes from joan to salma doing the same thing with the same hair, I accidentally clicked on ep 1 of season 6 when I should’ve start from the beginning to actually understand 😭🙏🏻
I just had a thought. Those people in 15 million merits, they probably are part of a talent agency hired by streamberry to produce shows because hot shots, botherguts…are all shows available on streaming, and their world seems to revolve around “making it to the top.” Kind of like the influencer houses on steroids
Hey! Firstly, I love this channel. Secondly, I wonder if you've ever come across "inside no. 9"? it's a similar premise to Black Mirror (horror/drama anthology series) created by and starring British actors Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith. I think it has several seasons now, episodes are on average 20-25 minutes and some focus more on paranormal or psychological issues than sci fi and technology but it is absolutely incredible and you might enjoy it, especially as newer seasons of black mirror haven't exactly lived up to the earlier seasons
if someone ask me how i feel and i don't feel good i will say "what i feel after finishing a Black Mirror ep" love your videos analysing Black Mirror😊 i happy there more eps but i cannt watch more then 1 ep per 1-2 weeks
I loved the episode but I wouldn't say the core logic holds up, especially in terms of this ever being a real thing once the technology is available. According to the Streamberry CEO, the goal is to create a show so highly personalized to that individual user that they're guaranteed to stay subscribed - they're not trying to use Joan's data against her just to piss her off. While Joan is unique because they're testing it on her, the goal is to roll it out to all users and it's very easy to conclude that once it did, users would simply cancel their subscriptions (and most importantly, almost nobody would subscribe going forward). Of course the terms of service might still allow the company to keep the show on in perpetuity, but there would be little financial incentive to hurt the brand by doing that when the vast majority of users would still only be interested in their own shows anyway. I can totally see AI very soon being in a state where it could write and render a full season of a show based on someone's data the app collected, but realistically it would be a lot simpler and safer for the company to make the show privately viewable by default (and maybe allow choices of what portions of their life can be used in the show, etc.). It would be a very successful novelty with none of the hassle brought upon by forcefully exposing the data like in the episode.
I feel like I should point out that phones do not actually “listen” to your private conversations in order to target advertisements specifically tailored to you. Pretty sure this is just a meme and/or something not-so-smart people believe.
The entire episode I was just wandering what would've happened if Joan just threw her phone or did absolutely nothing during a few days, the episodes of her life wouldn't come out or people would rapidly get bored and so she would get rid of it in my opinion, way better option that taking a shit in a church and some years in prison.
